Thanks, for once your trope-mongering comes to be useful.

Wow, Jack must have ruffled some feathers around the office back when he was the lead developer.

Fixed for better relevance. While MMOs and console games are certainly different beasts, they aren't as far different as a sandwich and a movie are.

Also, Steel Canyon can be a tough place to solo the first time since it's the first zone you run into that's split between train stations and level ranges. It's easy in those zones to wander in the wrong direction and, though you started off with enemies your level, find yourself overwhelmed. I had a hard time in Steel Canyon too until I started looking at the map and going "wait, how'd I end up this far north?"
You should have been here before the green and yellow lines were unified.

    Power picks:

    Defender Build 1(Initial):

Cold Domination: Ice Shield, Glacial Shield, Infrigidate, Snow Storm
Radiation Blast: Irradiate, Neutrino Bolt, X-Ray Beam.
    Speed: Flurry, Super Speed

Defender Build 2(Offence, after taking some licks):
Cold Domination: Ice Shield, Glacial Shield, Snow Storm.
Radiation Blast:Irradiate, X-Ray Beam, Neutrino Bolt, Electron Haze.
    Leadership: Assault, Tactics

Most random packs here in Steel Canyon are twos and threes, sometimes four for Minions, one or two Lieutenants or Bosses. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong other than attacking in the first place. No difficulty mods. In the missions is hard too.

    Maybe I'm missing something.
Well, your power picks look fine. Maybe you're just letting the mobs get too close. Defenders are pretty squishy, and as such, should not let themselves be in melee range.

It's more akin to a kind of divine energy (although a science fictiony version of divine). And divine energy itself does not have to qualify as magic, although in some settings it does. In some settings, it does not.

You... don't read a lot of comic books do you? Most "science" in comics (such as turning into giant green monsters after being bombarded by gamma rays or gaining superspeed after being bathed in chemicals hit by lightning) outright break the known laws of physics in the real world.

By your definition, everything in comic books is "magic" and I'm pretty sure folks like Reed Richards or Lex Luthor would disagree with you.

True, it's fantasy science but that doesn't make it magic, it just makes it Did Not Do the Research, Didn't Care, and Rule of Cool.
