I'd describe my feeling as HORRIFIED when I saw that some of you got receipt mails.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Haha. Me, too. I didn't send mine as a PDF, though.

Whatever happens, it was fun making it. It'd just be upsetting to be out of the running due to e-mail messups on THEIR end.
  2. I never received a confirmation e-mail. However, my submission WAS sent to cohsubmissions@plaync.com on the 23rd of April.

The comic I submitted is linked in my sig.

I'm hoping that the e-mail wonkiness extends only to randomly not sending the confirmation, instead of randomly not accepting or forgetting entries.
  3. Maybe the extra time will allow them to put together an honorable mention list - perhaps even with a sentence-long blurb next to each entry.

"'Tough Nookie', by Rabid Platypus - this comic puts an interesting twist on the old story of love between a marsupial and an alien robot ninja pirate."

    That sort of thing.

    Contest Alert!

    Here's my attempt.

As usual, I'm not sure if it's finished or not...
  5. Oo! I really like that last one.
  6. They're *boxers*.

You need *boxes* of pizza on them.

    Contest Alert!

    *clicks on graver's DA page*

    *jaw drops*

Well... uh... I think I see WHY Graver hasn't received any art.

It's... a bit intimidating. Kinda like writing a mystery story for Agatha Christie.

I'll probably be very late - LOTS of other things to do right now - but I'll see if I can get something done.

If the sheer stupendousness of Graver's own paintings doesn't paralyse me with lack of confidence, that is.

honorable mention lists at the end

    [/ QUOTE ]

An honorable mentions list sounds like a great idea.
  9. Thanks to all for the compliments!

As far as I can tell, a cat wearing a spider corset, bird hat and squirrel tail boa is having a chat with an ant on a spider-web.

All while wasps perform regular maintenance on her very stiff hoop dress which may or many not have something inside it, and she pets her pet giant rat with red glowing eyes.

Oh, and there's a moon and stuff.

Like I said, I became sidetracked. @.@ I really DID intend it to be a simple portrait of my claws/dark scrapper.
  10. This started out as a picture of my claws/dark scrapper. Honest!

I just... um... got sidetracked by some lovely insecty bits.

And who can resist adding a jaunty hat?

    Sciuridae !!!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. And that I was able to catch you before the day was over (here, anyway).

After seeing all the great comic submissions I doubt mine will win but I'd be more than happy if I get a few chuckles with it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, THAT comic is now my favourite. Definitely gets MY vote for funniest, best action, best story, etc. ad naus.

    Great job, Howdy!
  13. The Johnny Rapid comic is my favourite submission so far. (Yes, including my own!)

It's hilarious, and extremely well put together. There IS a typo on the first page, though - it's 'swarthy', not 'sworthy'.
  14. Otherwise known as 'I give up'. I've tried painting Ma'aseruat four different times, in four completely different compositions, and none of them work.

Here's the final attempt, on my DA page.

If I had a working scanner or tablet, I'm pretty sure I could have come up with a nice penciled portrait. *puts on shopping list*
  15. It's cover plus eight pages, for a total of nine.
  16. Thanks for the compliment! (On I Saw It!) Guess I should get around to submitting it... @.@ *cough*

I'd read a lot of the ones you mentioned, but had missed Baelzebozo and Wardrobe Malfunction, both of which I very much enjoyed. Baelzebobo elegantly deals with something I think most players have wondered about at least once. Wardrobe Malfunction is... well, just plain funny. And very well (screen)shot.

Your own is very clearly, very carefully put together. It's very clean and almost professional - my only gripe with it is that it ends just as it's getting good.

I'm guessing that, like myself, you sat down with a bunch of comic books and picked apart the techniques for your composition. Which did you use? (I'm sure I've seen the speech/radio/thought bubble progression in one of your vertical panels done somewhere...)

For myself, I read through a dozen 70s-era 'Secrets of the Haunted House' and 'Tales of the Unexpected' as well as cribbing a few newer ideas from Desolation Jones. (Red tones and desaturation to indicate action in panels where the action can't be explicit.)

A pain, but it worked. Her comic: Betrayal and the Beast

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yay! A comic based on one of my favourite story arcs.

There are some excellent screenshots in it.

This ones my other one (i think i like it more then the last).

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's a big improvement over the last one (which was itself quite nice). I really like your use of Faultline, and the storyline's fun.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Forgive me if this has been asked before, but when they say "One entry per person" is that one entry per individual, or one entry per individual per category? If you can only post one entry, why would anyone apply for anything except "Best Overall"?

    [/ QUOTE ]

There is only one entry per individual.

As for the categories... maybe you're supremely confident in your story, but are less sure about your art/layour. Submitting it for 'best story' could give you a better chance.
  20. I completely messed up Maas. Twice. @.@

The first time, I just couldn't get the pose to work, and the second time... well...

This is what a train wreck looks like

(And yes, the first one was even worse - out of desperation, I even turned her into a literal bookworm chewing through papyrus, with a big of parchment hanging out of her mouth.)

To add insult to injury, I got her backstory - and therefore the entire theme - wrong.

I'll rest and recover over the weekend and give her a fresh try next week, with a completely different painting in mind.
  21. Thanks for all the kind words. I tried fiddling with it again last night, but anything I tried just made it look worse - so I do think, for once, it's actually done.

Now for Masur... Mru... Maru... uh... the long stretchy thing with the big black eyes and mohawk.
  22. 1) Spraymarrow, Mutant Stalker

    2) Spine Burst from Hide (no, really!)

    3) After a three-second squat, the giant zit pops, and everyone within a few feet of the attacker staggers backward and is impaled with spines.

    4) Favorite - Freakshow. Least favorite - Rikti.
