Quote:I happen to like what has been released to live thus far. I haven't played any of the raids yet, but I enjoyed the Hami raid and the Mothership raid, so I may like them, or I may not.
But I can't say whether I like or dislike something until after I've done it. That's like saying I don't like sushi without ever having eaten it.
The end game that people are railing against so vehemently is still in beta. Granted, it probably won't change drastically between now and when it goes live, but it's possible.
Example: Conductive Aura in Electric Control was VERY different in beta. It started out as a stacking stun/damage aura, and was changed when the devs realized how overpowered it was from player feedback they received. Things DO change between beta and live, and it is in beta that your feedback matters, not on the forums.
For that matter, what do you WANT the end game to be? More TFs, some story arcs? Exactly like the rest of the game, but with more power?
Personally, I would be disappointed if the end game was nothing more than a couple new TFs and story arcs with nothing to differentiate it from the rest of the game. I mean, if nothing about it changed from the 1-50 content, how are you supposed to know you're playing end game content?
I've already said what I want the end game to be in another thread so I'll post it here - but sticking it to the Rikti in their own back yard would be fulfilling, in tune with the existing lore and also would give us plenty of new challenges.
As for the end game still being in Beta, that's not strictly true. Tin Mage and Apex and the Alpha Slot are all part of the End Game and give a huge insight into the mechanics and background story of it. And my biggest problem is that I've got to suddenly do this whole "Well of the Furies" thing, and that more than anything else is what's grating on my nerves. I don't have a huge problem with grinding for shards or repeating content - but I dislike the back story and I don't much like the Apex and TM TFs -
Quote:Believe me, I am skeptical of the path they are taking with the content. I think Praetoria did not deliver like it could have. I have concerns that this is not going to be the success they envision. I like the game but I do not participate in parts I do not enjoy.
Well if, like me, you don't enjoy the end game as it's presented thus far, you're screwed then huh? It's either "stop at 50 and do something else" or play content you don't like very much -
Quote:It is funny to see the fanboi responses. The structure of the game is changing. It happens in every game. It will continue to happen. When it becomes less fun for people, they will leave. The real question will be if the "end game" causes more people to leave than join.
That's a very cut and dried simplistic response.
I think there's more than a few posters on the boards that are less than happy with the content being delivered by End Game.
The biggest problem is that there are plenty of other options that have been requested for a long time, and what we got isn't working for some of us.
Of course games change. Adding any form of content changes the game, and Going Rogue was a fundamental change - and brought some new people in and several former players back. But that's tailed off subsequently and what I think is telling is there are fewer fanbois as you so flatteringly call them claim they love the end game content as they did Going Rogue.
I could be wrong, but that's my instinct and I'm old enough to trust 'em. But that doesn't mean I'm going to leave. What I am doing is putting my concerns out there and I'm clearly not alone. The Devs will take whatever action they think is appropriate taking on board all the feedback they receive and all other factors.
We'll see what happens. -
Quote:Bolded the key words in that sentence.
You're excluding YOURSELF. You even said it yourself. That means if you are unhappy about that exclusion, you have no one to blame for it but yourself.
I've not denied that. My point is that the more I learn of the Incarnate story the less I like it and that leaves me feeling conflicted and more than a bit worried.
I'm open to the possibility that the story will pick up and improve - I've not tried the stuff on test yet because I tend not to enjoy testing what is a done deal. I'd rather experience it when it's fresh and new.
However the evidence so far leads me to suspect that I probably won't enjoy the continuing plot and that just makes me sad because the Incarnate stuff is the first content I've taken a dislike to. -
Quote:I wouldn't mind a bit of "clean up" in my end game. Go to the Rikti homeworld, walk up to the last holdouts of the Lineage of War, go "hey, guys....war's over. We won. Deal." Go to Axis Amerika earth and do the same. And yes, do the same with Praetoria. And hunt down every single last Fake Nemesis and melt it down for ponies.
Which has the bonus of working for both sides of the wire, heroes and villains: For Villains it's simply a grab for power for Heroes it's a make the world safer. Job done. -
Quote:Your reasoning is flawed. Those 2 TFs are part of the end game. So if you chose not to run the end game (including those 2 TFs) your excluding yourself from them.
But seriously, an arc that takes 20 minutes and running on average 2 level 50 TFs for Incarnate stuff is exclusionary?!?
Absolutely. Because that's not all that is coming. We've been told for a long time that there is a lot of end game content coming to the game and that seems to be evidenced by what's coming from I20 and beyond. If I don't take part in the Incarnate arc I'm excluding myself from the majority of content that's slated to come in the future. -
anyone here ever twatted a **** in the ****?
Ok that filter works! -
I want to go back to the Rikti homeworld, kick their science butts from here to kingdom come, rescue Hero 1, punch H'rod'tz and Ukon'grai in the face and tell them to get the hell out of our dimension!

Quote:Like super hero comics do any better with end game content?
The Galactus stories are ridiculous, IMO. And need I remind you of punching through dimensions.
The end-game of our beloved comic book super heroes winds up in a hand waving depowerment because they got too powerful or reboots. Lots and lots of reboots.
That should say something about how hard it is to write incarnate level powered beings in a story, let alone translating that into MMORPG mechanics.
You've kind of answered your question in your own post. I wanted end game content like many others - actually all I wanted was more to do at 50 - but I never asked for Incarnates. In fact the more I think about it the more antipathy to Incarnates I feel. I wanted content. It didn't need to make me hugely more powerful but it did need to involve me. The current system makes me more powerful but doesn't involve me.
As for your comments: I'm not quite sure a comicbook has any "end game content" because by definition they are open ended - thus at leat contiguous. Some Galactus stories are very poor but some are excellent. That's less about the basic premise than the editorial stance plus writing over a period of about 40something years with diverse creative teams. To a greater extent, NCSoft have carried this project through from day one with a largely intact creative team who (we hope) have an understanding of the overarching story, and yet this is where we end up.
I also made no mention of punching through dimensions in this particular instance but now you have, I'd say it's generally not a great tool and is overly used in the CoH universe.
I never asked for "incarnate level powered beings" as you put it. I wanted end game but I dind't necessarily want supergods. My own preference is maybe not the same as many others in that I like the low key hero: Daredevil and Moon Knight, and even Nick Fury, Tara and Abbey Chase (no relations) really appeal to me because they don't break the world with their powers and are very vulnerable, and yet I mostly find they get some of the best stories.
Sure, "incarnate level stories are some of the hardest to write" so why write them? What we get now seems to be ultimately dissatisfying - I dislike much of the end game story and content thus far. I don't like the whole premise of the Ramiel arc, nor do I enjoy the two level 50 TFs very much, though I don't actually have a huge issue with collecting shards. It gives it purpose. But now I can sleepwalk ITF or LGTF and so now the good content is spoiled for me. -
Quote:So don't - that is your choice. Much like utilising the Invention Origin system, the in-game concept of which is pretty pitiful (and treated with much derision on launch as I'm sure you remember) you either take it or leave it. The Incarnate system is optional progression, it furthers the current (or one of) storyline's of the game rather than, specifically, your personal one. You just kinda go along for the ride, much like CoV's Project: Destiny.
I disagree. This is compulsory. This is the point of getting to 50.
Previously you could cherry pick. If it was Inventions or Vanguard Merits or anything else the playing field was level.
If I decline the end game content then I'm immediately excluded from 2 TFs immediately, plust all the other content. To say "don't do it" is facile and unworthy of your intellect. -
I cunningly managed to hit return too soon and the supergreat forum software won't let me edit my post
But to conclude: I've noted that there are plenty of other factions that are conning at lvl 54 - they aren't Incarnate. Why do I need to be? I could join Malta or something. Hell I can go from Hero to Villain in a week so why not turn on "my own" as a renegade. -
So for those with short attention spans the tl;dr is at the end
I wanted end game content. I wanted "the Galactus Event". I wanted something to aim for once I got to Level 50.
Paragon Studios delivered.
I really really dislike it. I am feeling really uncomfortable about it.
I should maybe add that I'm not so uneasy with the principle - I'm cool with the grind. I mean as a 5 year vet, I've run content time and again because mostly it's pretty cool. Running it again because of a differnt reward isn't a problem for me.
Running content that gets under-used is also good. I have no problem with reinvigorating under-used content for a goal. In fact quite the opposite. I'd like to see that be more content given a reason to play it.
I have huge love for the Praetorian content in terms of it's new stuff to run it's got (mostly) better stories... but as I learn the outcome of the story I'm finding it increasingly troublesome. By that I don't mean the detail but the overarching story.
For me, the biggest problem is simply this: I have no choice. At least from my progression through 1-50 I had a notional choice of choosing contacts or go off and do other things. But when it comes to "end game" I am presented with Hobson's Choice. No debate, no moralising no clue as to where my character wants to go. It's like "well kid, you got this far, you gonna suck it up for the next ride?"
Except that... I don't know what the next ride is.
The first ride is a comicbook. I picked up a box called "City of Heroes" - be a hero. "City of Villains" gives the opposite. But with both games I knew what I was buying into and I bought the game because I'm a huge comic buff. The Superhero thing is my thing (no I don't dre... oh shush you) and it's something I've carried with me since Reed Richards wore a fedora.
This... Incarnate thing... this, this big thing... it's not the game I signed up for. I don't relate to it. I have no connection to it. I spend 50 levels going through the game trying to be the best (or worst) I can be within the available constructs and then I'm offered unlimited power for no obvious reason.
In an of itself that's ok but I don't get to even ask "What's the catch?" It's that or nothing - which in itself may not be a terrible thing but as a PC I don't get the opportunity to question it.
I freely admit I do not like the post-50 content I've been given so far. I think Apex and Tin Mage are quite inferior to Lady Grey, Kahn, Statesman and other high level TFs. This is odd because the new 1-20 content overshadows the existing content by a margin (Frostfire excepted.) All the new TFs do is pander to the "feed me nao" brigage who want a TV dinner. It's an ok story delivered in a plastic bag.
So I'm really not enjoying the new direction of the game. It is seriously sucky to me and ultimately it's like "Do this or bugger off" and delivers a poor story that doesn't work for me. I do however notice that there are other factions that have really high level toons and they aren't Incarnate. Why would I sign up to be an Incarnate at the risk of my soul when I could be a cool Malta or somebody?
The Tl;Dr brigage: Pay more attention if you love the game -
Quote:Huh?
I20 is expanding the Black Helicopters so villains don't have to run to the *** end of Nerva and Grandville.
I19 merged the train lines, added hospitals to hazard zones, and insp dispensers to hospitals.
I18 merged the markets, which is a huge QoL improvement. We also got the "closest to completion" badge tab.
I17 increased the number of open missions and arcs we could have, added the option to abandon missions, added the "show last objective" feature, and allowed us to email stuff between characters.
I16 gave us additional difficulty options and supersidekicking.
I could go on...my point is that even though there hasn't been an issue focused on QoL improvements in a while, QoL improvements are constantly being made.
Fair point. I guess I'd overlooked some of those because they get buried in the new content. -
Scarlet Shocker had at least half a chance. Now Blasters are all but redundant in PVP - the world and his dog does more damage than most blasters

Quote:I have seen them use it on the prison staff at the Zig actually.
I never have. I've seen them use it on cons who are (nominally) escaping whilst a guard has been there though and Longbow will be there to deal with the Arachnos threat primarily.
There are a couple of plot holes I agree - the most obvious is "How did I get my costume instead of the orange jump suit" but it's solid enough without questioning too much. -
There is only one side and it's a sort of purplish-gold colour

Quote:That ^
Also, why tie it so explicitally to the well in the first place?
Mentioning Incarnate powers and then saying 'Such as the Well of Furies, etc etc' would have been just fine. It would also have let people determine their own source of power, wether it was indeed the Well or a deity, or spirits, or uber high-tech, or shear consumption of enough anti-freeze that they became more super and 100% more blue.
But, no, we instead get straight-jacketed with 'The Well is GOD! OBEY THE WELL MYTHOS!', which I still don't buy frankly, and nor do most of my characters, IC or OOC.
*shrug*
Blimey... I'm.... I'm totally agreeing with you.
I - I don't know how to feel! -
Quote:Try to wrestle control of the game back from Marketing. Probably impossible at this point, but it would be worth a try.
HA! That's the funniest thing I've read in this thread. Thanks for the grin
One of the biggest problems with most of the answers is they are subjective and depend entirely on desire of the poster. There's no consideration of the budget or technical constraints such as available time and/or manpower to do much of what is requested here, nor have we got access to any data mining so without knowing what's achievable what gets played, when and by whom isn't as clear cut as we might suspect.
Sure we'd all love a moonbase and aquatic zone - but the fact we haven't had them despite the rumours being around since I6 tells me there's a reason for them not appearing. I'm guessing that's strongly related to cost and story direction.
PVP will never get rolled back to "Pre-I13" simply because to do so would be a tacit admission of defeat and getting it wrong - and it's certain the Devs know people don't like PVP so much but it really doesn't matter because PVP is such a small part of this game it doesn't warrant much investment.
When NCSoft took over the IP we had a bunch of QoL fixes. We've not had so many since and I suspect we've had all we're going to get for a good while so the costume creator's still going to feel clunky for the time being, for example. The next few issues are all about new Content - something that the player base begged for for a long time so now we're getting it, asking for more QoL stuff is kind of pointless. Paragon Studios, for all their efforts don't have the team to do both at the same time - not to mention the fact that one can affect the other.
But if I have to give my top 5 Wish List it'd be something along the lines of:
- Upgrade the graphics across the entire game. Get a proper marketing team to get the game out there and promoted properly.
- Drive the story forward but ensure that some of the plot lines that have just been left hanging for ever are tied up and finished.
- Add content to existing hazard zones. They don't need a huge amount but maybe a good couple of Task/Strike forces would invigorate Boomtown, DA etc
- Restore the challenge to the game. It's been dumbed down so consistently over the last few years that it's turning rapidly into a yawn-fest. Incarnates are only exacerbating that.
- Re-establish the divide between the "Good" and the "Bad". As Heroes, Villains and Praetorians are piled into this murky grey soup known as "end game" content the identity of characters is getting lost. There's now only one side you can effectively play on: If you're a PC, then you're on the same side against the PVE content. The lack of plurality means the game has simply become level progression rather than RP. Anyone can be anything for for a day and then be something else thus there's less inducement to explore - and it also means PVP becomes extra pointless because Heroes and Villains are all on the same side.

Thanks to everyone who took part and for some great costumes! Some wonderful outfits that worked exceptionally well with the theme.
Hope you guys all enjoyed -
The biggest problem with the Doors was Morrison's inability to get his stuff together...

Quote:rightly or wrongly this may be correct. But, the end result is at best unimaginative and leaves a lot to be desired.Unfortunately, that's a deliberate design decision and you can blame the early adopters of the game for it.
It only took a couple of "Captain Naked Man" characters and some assorted brouhaha on the early forums to insure that the skin tone palette would get nerfed and silliness such as the removal of nipples from breast models would get implemented.
In the very early stages of beta, the costume and skin palettes were identical or close enough as made no difference. Human nature being what it is, enough people used that fact to create naked toons that the ability was nerfed.
Yes, it's a pain in the butt and no, it's unlikely to ever get changed. Feel free to try, though. I'll be right there cheering for you.
I'd also say you're missing my central point. I'm not just talking about colour I'm talking about texture and shades and even translucency.
Imagine this: When you create a brand new character you get a quite cool translucent green form that you can manipulate. But imagine taking that form and clothing it. Changing the colour of the skin, changing the level of translucency... maybe having your aura within the skin rather than externally.
