TO ATTRACT NONPVPERS INTO PVP ZONES YOU NEED TO APPEAL TO THEM. NOT TO PEOPLE ALLREADY PVPING.
1. PvP is only viable with a fraction of the available sets. Boring.
2. PvPis only viable with highly specialised builds that gimp you in PvE (at least team PvE). Boring and destroys my main interest.
3. PvP is horribly uneven even under these circumstances. You have to farm for hours to be viable. Boring.
4. When I have entered PvP there is, to my mind, much less skill than people bleat on about it. I dont do it much but I have mastered the basics pretty quickly. Keep moving, hop, skip, jump, breakfrees when mezzed, mez, blast, debuff opponents. buff allies. I just dont beleive there is a steep learning curve. What there is, is a requirement to have a totally streamlined cookie cutter build and farm for hours and hours to uberize it. To my mind the skill component, whilst there, is overplayed and mythologised.
5. PvP *could* be great fun, and is a good component to overall health and interest in the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would say this is a reasonable summation of my feelings.
However PVP can be fun whatever level you're at provided all parties accept agree and understand that actually, it's just a game. -
I'll keep my biking to the RL variety thanks.
If you can't ride 200 miles in the pouring rain, arrive at a muddy field in the middle of nowhere, drink six pints before you forget to pitch your tent and listen to great music while you fall over int eh middle of the night, I ain't interested -

Hmmm...thats why I put the blast set as 'Predictable'
The manipulation set could be/is new, so i mainly focused on that set and tried to fit in Bullets to the theme of stoping them and attacking them without re-using any powers

Is it just me, or have I not seen several overdone, recycled suggestions on these boards with your name attached? -
I suspect any "gambling" device wouldn't even be entertained by the devs
-
Ok couldn't read all the posts, but I'd like to add this:
Seems to me there are two camps:
PVP great vs PVP bad
PVP great subdivides into
PVP Uber vs PVP Casual
I've not played any other MMO. I'm here as a hardcore (hardcape?) spandex fan. It's the comicbook thing for me.
I love PVP in moderation. It's not all I do but it's an added dimension to the game that works very well for me. I'm definitely in the PVP Casual Good camp. There are a lot of PVPers who want to be in the Uber category, which is totally fine but to do that I reckon you've got to dedicate a lot of time to a single toon to do that, and build that toon solely for PVP and frankly, I'm not prepared to sacrifice the best of PVE to be a good PVPer on my favourite toons. I like being able to fly, so to have to take CJ and SS is a bit meh...
So, dipping a toe in the PVP water from time to time, like FNFC (and look for news of that later) is great. But, I suspect to those who are not into PVP, it'll be tough to change their mind especially if they have poor initial experiences. However, if you could arrange a n00b event for novices or people who don't know a huge amount about it... I wonder how that would appeal -

The 'universal' in this leads me to believe it's related to the 'universal enhancement slots' noted here:
http://uk.boards.cityofheroes.com/showfl...e=0&fpart=1
How do you see them working? - 10 slots that don't even appear in a specific power? (Almost as if you're slotting your whole self)
[/ QUOTE ]
Now THAT is interesting!I guess they could add a "Universal" Power with 10 slots and you add to them what you will as and when... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm 10 purples that affect everything /homerdrool

Do remember that the registered heroes make up a large portion of Paragon City's population. That may count towards why your not seeing many civvies, they're too busy getting their tights on!
[/ QUOTE ]
Of course, that may not be the ONLY reason they are wearing tights... -
There's a reason there are so few cars:
no filling stations. Without petrol... well you know how it goes.
There are plenty of restaurants etc, perhaps the best example is the donut bar in Faultline.
Environmental destruction is not something the game engine supports easily so therefore it's been mostly ruled out I believe except for mayhem missions
Sure would be nice, but I'd prefer the devs to stick with their existing plans

and I think you need to give NCNC a chance to show you what they can do before damning them out of hand
[/ QUOTE ]
You'd do well in Orwell's dystopia... doublethink for the win!
NCNC don't really have a track record yet, this will make or break it so they need to get it right. You're right that we don't really know what's coming, that's pretty much what GhostRaptor was saying. OTOH, we can make (un)educated guesses and then gripe about them as if they were facts like usual and from this it should be possible for NCNC to see what concerns players (fairly loyal, passionate players) have regarding those potential future paths. Yes, we should not cry DOOM until we have real, solid details, but this is 'da intarwebz' and that's how people express themselves. By now, I'd hope that companies have got the hang of trying to pick the legitimate concerns from the dross. If I were NCNC, I'd be picking over threads like this fairly carefully, along with the survey results, to figure out whether to implement specific features and in what way. (Sadly, I'm not NCNC, if I was, I'd have an income.)
[/ QUOTE ]
Heh, not doublespeak and as Kerensky pointed out, the core of the Dev team has been solid for as long as I've been on board, Positron and War Witch being two names to come to mind. So from that point of view they do have track record, but under the new aegis of NCNC there is a clearly a far friendlier attitude from the company towards the fans. We've just not had a chance to look at much they've produced under the new regime. I12 did give us a lot of what the fans wanted including power-proliferation and new character slots (something that many people have begged for for a long time.) Overall, not a bad start and I'll be interested in what's coming for Issues 13-15 -

The EU servers seem to work perfectly well and I don't see a need to move.
[/ QUOTE ]
^ lol. I'd agree with this if it wasn't for the whole server lag and un-useable arena issues of late.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have not experienced lag for a long time, so I don't recognise your problem.
But if you've got lag now, surely playing on servers hosted in the USA would make it worse given the additional hops you'd need to connect to -
Scarlet Shocker lives in the Shock Tactics base which is underground and accessed via the Kings Row cinema (which isn't actually a cinema at all, hence it's been showing the same billing since forever.)
Riffster is semi-retired now and lives in Croatoa.
Snowfreak lives in Talos Island
Proton Rush lives in Brickstown
Psyber Girl lives in one of the new apartments in Faultline
Scarlet Stinger lives in Port Oaks in one of the larger tenement buildings -

Thanks for all your help guys. Look me up in Atlas park.

Good point GR, but once a piece has been nominated, the only way to express support for that piece/creator is to nominate it again
Perhaps not the most accurate method but at least a good indicator of how popular a given submission is

What nobody seems to have recognized so far is that Matt Miller is pretty good at delivering what the players want from a different angle to general expectations.
[/ QUOTE ]
Except, it has to be said, a more challenging game. We've got loads of new ways to make our characters stronger and to level faster but we're still fighting the same rinse-and-repeat enemies we were fighting 3 or 4 years ago.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not so sure I agree. Cimerora TF, Mothership Raids, MoSTF etc are all far more challenging, but also very difficult to complete successfully with a PuG so require a lot more planning.
Sure, some things have become easier, XP smoothing for example, but that's a prelude to other things. It wasn't done "just for the hell of it" and I think you need to give NCNC a chance to show you what they can do before damning them out of hand
(added to which, "Give us a more challenging game" is NOT top of the player wants list)
-
ok my rants:
Actually I don't have too many.
I'd prefer Mercy Island to be a tad smaller so it's easier to get around at low level.
I've hardly ever done a thing in the Shadow Shard on either side, which in 2.5 years tells me a lot about how unused it is.
I love some of the Hazard/Trial Zones, Dark Astoria, Boomtown, etc. I would LOVE to see them getting more content to make them worth visiting -
[ QUOTE ]
sorry Col, I should have clarified on the concept rather than assuming everyone knew what I was on about
Room 101 originates (i think - please correct if wrong) from the George Orwell novel "1984" in which people live in a true "big brother" state complete with thought police and what-not. People who refuse to conform are arrested and sometimes tortured in the eponymous "room 101" - which is where you come face to face with whatever your greatest fear is. example: in the film the guy was afraid of rats so they put a helmet on him that had rats in it etc.
This was subsequently used as a basis for a comedic chat-show in England whereby celebrities (or varying standards of fame) are invited to nominate several of thier pet hates to the host who will then decide whether to consign them to room 101 where they are destroyed and erased from reality (this last part is debateable as i'm sure someone put Anne Robinson in once).
[/ QUOTE ]
Fixed. Originally Orwell wanted to call it 1948 because he has always had a very right wing political agenda and wrote it after Atlee's landslide victory in 1945. However it's an apposite read currently some might argue.
Orwell is also famous for writing Animal Farm and fighting in the Spanish Civil War (I'll let you guess which side he chose :P) -
Ok just ummm... wow
There's a lot of hot and botheredness going on there and I couldn't read every single post but clearly there's an apparently small minority who have serious, legitimate concerns.
Sure it's new content and that's generally a good thing. But giving choices especially based around some as yet undefined "moral compass" can be a real concern.
One of the big problems is we don't actually know what's coming, so thus far everything is speculation. However, NCNC have shown us by their track record that: 1) They rarely (if ever) sell us a pup when it comes to CoX. Sure they could have done some things differently but their outcomes have generally been good for the game. 2) NCNC are far more open to listening to the fan base and giving it what it wants. "Going Rogue" has been one of the big fan desires for a long time
So, somehow NCNC are likely to be implementing this at some stage.
What nobody seems to have recognized so far is that Matt Miller is pretty good at delivering what the players want from a different angle to general expectations.
Conclusion: Let's not get too hot under the collar without knowing exactly what's on the cards (unless you're a fire based AT :P ) -
I've used it on my soldier quite effectively on all levels of opponents, but never into traps. However it works well if you teleport them into range and then stun them etc
