Oh i know they exist in minor forms in game (Throwing knives are the Natural power you get when you make a character and actually look pretty cool too) but one or two epic picks does not a set make!

My complaint isn't that it's too Fantasy, it's not.

It's that other than Assault Rifle, they're all melee weapons! Since when did we use them anymore with any regularity? Where's my oversized, compensating for something, Rocket Pods / Rocket Launcher / Harkonnen set?

Or my ray gun / crazy tech device set? It freezes, it heats, it spews acid, it reverses gravity and dislocates them from reality! Truly a weapon of kings.

Or a throwing weapons set? Bolas, knives, boomerangs, nets, grenades, shurikens, javelins and chakram hooo!

And if you say pistols are too short range for the setting, it's worth pointing out that the normal blasts have a range of 80ft which is well within effective range and this isn't even counting in the fact that gun slinging heroes are likely using guns that are better than average.

If we're getting realistic then it's more that rifles and bows have a ridiculously short range in the game!

I don't often disagree with Mumsie but memorials for dead players seems... well if nothing else it kinda cheapens the memorials she sites for people who have paid the ultimate price for what they believed in. That's not to say those who have played and passed on were not good friends but this is still, ultimately, just a game.

Perhaps a level based Vet reward?

Possibly worth pointing out here that for many many years Marvel owned the rights to Conan, and Roy Thomas & John Buscema did some wonderful adaptations of the orignal Robert E. Howard tales. Not to mention Krull and Red Sonja.

Many comicbook characters use weapons, and have origins in what we may consider to be "Sword & Sorcery" backgrounds (to differentiate between "sf/superhero fantasy" and "medieval/magic Tolkieneque" fantasy.

People have already mentioned the Asgardian plagiarism that is Marvel's Thor, which works as well as Jack Kirby's Eternals - a scientific based reworking of ancient Greek legend - and one of Marvel's best selling books currently is "The Incredible Herc" - Hercules, son of Zeus takes on the role of the Hulk, whilst the Avengers (the Mighty, not the New) feature a psychopathic Ares, God of War.

Blade's also a good example of how the mighty warrior feeds into a quasi-modern myth - he was a character created by Gene Colan and Marv Wolfman especially for the Tomb of Dracula series, with a different slant for a wider audience.

Bottom line? In comicbooks, you can take your pick, or cudgel, or longsword, or Uru Hammer, or Lightning Lance or... but whatever you do, just enjoy

What do you suppose your additional DOOOM thread will have following on from a number of similar posts of a similar nature recently? How do you imagine it will possibly help the game, or the community? What is your objective in posting it? If you don't want to argue here, then why post?

You say the game looks pug ugly, yet it would seem that not so many agree with you on that, either in terms of characters or scenery. Nobody's saying an upgrade wouldn't be good but the game does seem to stack up favourably, compared to other equivalent MMOs. I suspect you're jumping on the bandwagon of Positron's teaser here and posting this as "gief nao plx" without thinking things through.

Finally, how do you know you're not harming the game? A number of people DO read the forums and these posts are created by a vocal minority. So what is the net effect of this? The bottom line is that you cannot say for sure you're not putting players off because you have no evidence either way.

But in most superhero universes, heroes are not a regular part of the law enforcement community. Most are vigilantes, Batman, Spidey, DD etc... who protect their real identity at the risk of becoming outcasts themselves.

Paragon is different.

It's been done. There's a reasonably famous Defenders issue where the entire team go shopping - Hulk ends up filling a shopping trolley full of beans and Valkyrie makes a mess of the coffee.

The Gladiator runs a costume shop (where do you think most of the guys get their outfit?) when he's not going bonkers.

Just about every superhero's hair changes with the current fashion - over close on 50 years you cannot expect the hero to have the same style... hell Janet van Dyne makes a point of being up with the latest fashions (and yes, does get her hair done.)

Not every hero or villain hides from the lime-light. Many are actual celebrities.

You may not want to interact in that way but plenty of RPers will, and the beauty of CoX is that you can do just that, if you so choose

Shirley Knot - I was thinking something like the Gordian Knot and so something involving broadswords to cut it...

Horace Scope - Definitely magical, not sure for powersets.

Eleanor Handbag - "It's all gone to Hell in a Handbag!"

Rick O'Shay - I've been waiting for AR/Kin to appear as a proliferated powerset since I came up with this name, but It's never happened , so if someone else wants it - it's all yours!
