Quick thought re-Freespecs -
am I right in thinking that in the past, the Respec missions only gave you a respec once. Once you'd done it, and chosen the respec as a reward, that was it, done.
Now, I believe they are a selectable option whenever you do the mission. That means that a freespec is essentially unnecessary - it's a convenience, but even if there are drastic changes made, no need to give one out, if we want, we can just log in and run a respec mission (which as I write this is the WST)
If I'm right here, that puts things in a very different light. -
Dunno about you chaps, but I'm running out of peeps I want to get incarnated - and because Deus and Stone and chaps are so good at running trials (thanks guys, seriously) it's sometimes tough to get a lowbie team going.
That's compounded by the fact that I have a few nights where I have to break off to do other things
So I figured the best thing to do is grab a team, hit it over the head with a theme and get 8 (or more) to run missions from 1-50 and presto, we've got new 50s to run Incarnate content with.
Anyone interested? Best nights for me are Monday, Thursday, Sunday, and I've thought of themes like "elemental" or "weather" or "monochrome" would be fun to run, but very open to suggestions. -
that's an interesting thought. How would something like a dark/poison crupper stack up?
I say crupper because they do a bit more damage than fenders so therefore should be more solo friendly which is sometimes useful. (At least, that's my understanding.) -
Avatea once told me that because of NCSoft policy - to which Paragon has to adhere - the vBulletin software is effectively being pushed into territory to which is has never been designed to go.
There's almost nothing the Paragon team can do and it's very much a "make do and mend" scenario with the other guys at Austin who have very little autonomy to make fixes, but effectively here we get what we're given and have to like it or lump it. -

Quote:just focusing on this... frankly I'd hate that. I'm not saying you're wrong but here are my thoughts.I would love to see CoH plunk down some cash to Mids' creator, and whoever else designed the software. It really irks me that they have made a section of the forums for mids' builds, the red names themselves use it - it obviously has value - yet CoH hasn't put out their own version or bought it and made it part of the game.
As a fan-fan driven project, Mids is invaluable for those who like to use it. If Paragon Studios paid for its development they could, for example, lock it away behind a paywall so that only VIPs could use it or maybe make bits of it unavailable to certain sections of the community. (PVP for example.)
I'm not suggesting they would do that, but profit is a compelling motive and if the bean counters got hold of Mids then they would have that potential.
As it is, we have an excellent, peer-guided, community driven project that is a real benefit to anyone who plays the game, with few boundaries. The only downside from this I can see is that sometimes it's not instant - and I guarantee if PS did own the IP to it, it still wouldn't get delived on the day an issue landed, because it's secondary to the game.
One of the grea things about this game is teh way the community at large add to the game, via the forums, the guides, and general support. Mids and the wider Titan network are prime examples of this and personally I'd much rather have to wait for a fan-delivered project than an "official" one. -
I found a trick is to line up with the mob I want to hit then backpedal a bit, that gives me a nice wide arc to splatter them with

There's an issue here: Not the lack of a freespec per se, but the fact that we've had a one freespec (sometimes even 2) since I7.
It's become expected - often for fewer changes than we're experiencing here.
If we're not getting a freespec that's ok in one sense. It's expected, but not guaranteed... but the lack of notification jars somewhat.
Sure, Paragon don't owe us a freespec but they fact they are not giving us one and not telling us is poor form. -

Quote:Keep in mind that almost EVERY Def and res debuff is to every type. Def debuffs available to players almost always affect all types and positions. So this is not a trait only available to Trick Arrow. Also keep in mind that TA's Acid Arrow has an amazingly small radius, making it tough to hit everyone in a spawn with, unless they are already bunched.
Also, do TA's buffs from the same types of arrows stack with themselves?
Disruption Arrow stacks I believe. Not sure about the others. I don't think Flash arrow stacks from the same caster but does stack with other blinders... useful when my Fire/TA used 2 blinds for a 15% -to hit -
Quote:Here's what Dark Miasma on a Defender can do:
Minimum / Best case
98.75% / 110% -ToHIt (almost twice as much if slotted for -ToHit)
40.2% / 52.5% -Dam
3100% / 3200% -Regen (3000% is up half the time)
152.5% / 242.5% -Run
30% / 60% -Resist
62.5 -Recharge
-Jump
-FlyQuote:Don't forget just how effective Trick Arrow can be at debuffing. It constantly gets overlooked by most people, but it can be one of the most powerful debuff sets, especially if you're looking for AoE debuffs. (Note: I know these are probably out of order, but this is how I remember them.)
Entangling Arrow: Immob, recharge debuff, -fly
Flash Arrow: AoE tohit debuff, perception debuff
Glue Arrow: AoE recharge debuff, -fly
Poison Gas Arrow: AoE sleep, damage debuff
Acid Arrow: defense (all) debuff, damage resistance (all) debuff
Ice Arrow: hold, recharge debuff
Disruptor Arrow: AoE damage resistance (all) debuff
Oil Slick Arrow: AoE defense (all) debuff, chance for knockdown
EMP Arrow: AoE hold, regen debuff, recovery debuff, -END
Six debuff powers that are AoE, two powers that debuff ALL defense, two powers that debuff ALL damage resistance, three recharge debuffs, a tohit debuff, two holds with one AoE, multiple -fly, one -jump, one immob. That's pretty sweet right there.
What really does it, though, is the fast cycle rate of the arrows, with the exception for EMP arrow. Stacking acid arrows and disruption arrows will make short work of any target's damage resistance, and with Flash arrow, poison gas and oil slick, you can mitigate the damage your team takes fairly well. You can really amp this up if you've got an Incarnate TA character, with the Interface tacking even more debuffs on with most of your attacks, too.
I'd thought about TA, Kurrent. It's one of my favourite sets and I've three TA controllers at 50 but even I'd over looked that. ... and Zombie your idea is of interest to me... but I couldn't run a Dark Miasma/TA controller. Do the stats for dark control give anything close to DM? I'm thinking a Dark/TA/Mu might be jolly interesting. -
Quote:Even if they are going to add more ATOs, they should still be account bound.
I wouldn't argue against that.
There's a strong case to be made to say that the Catalysts should be transferable within an account but not to anyone.
But I'm ok with waiting for the moment to see what happens -
Maybe they will be useful in some other kind of ATIO set at some stage. Remember that often we find stuff introduced doesn't fulfil all of its function immediately on release.
Empyrean and Astral Merits couldn't buy stuff initially - but now they are a useful currency.
In their current mode, nobody's ever going to need more than 6 Catalysts, which seems rather... pointless. If you get a drop per trial, run 6 and you got all you need. So I strongly suspect they will have some other, yet to be revealed, purpose. -
Freespecs are generally issued a week or so after the issue goes live to ensure that people get them when needed.
That said, the community team has been very quiet on this so I'm wondering if it'll happen. -
The more I think about this I believe that the LFG function is trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist... or at least if it does exist, it's not an effective solution.

Quote:Because NCsoft totally didn't do everything short of plasting it on our bedroom walls for about 3 months. Let's not forget countless upon countless of threads that still pop up about this with no spoiler tags. This is the CoH equivalent of Darth Vader being Luke's father.
You mean they didn't do that to you? Zwillinger said it was gonna be painted on evryone's walls... and Freitag cleaned up the paint Zwillinger spilled so you'd hardly know they'd been there... except for the big star and... well... I still don't believe they're actually gonna kill him off though. Despite what my bedroom wall says. -
Quote:I must be wired backwards.
I know exactly how powerful my main is... and he's REALLY powerful. The fact that I'm facing enemies that require over a dozen people just as strong as me to defeat just impresses on me how powerful my enemies actually are and how important it is they be defeated.
And I feel damn heroic when we win.
Well said! -
Ok some interesting points.
I recently read Arcanaville's legendary "Guide to Defence" and frankly it was impressive but I didn't take it all in.
To put that in context, I spent my first five years in the game avoiding the rules, simply so I could discover it the hard way. I have never been a min/maxer but the notion of providing the ultimate support toon that will make a damage dealer/tankish toon's life easy has a lot of appeal; it has that synergy of the damage dealer and the support
