But one thing that does bug me is a single "No" reply to a team invite. That's almost ruder than not replying - at least with no reply they might be busy. "No thanks" or something similar is fine but when somebody has a message saying LFT and you ask nicely and get "No" you just think "@$$"

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't really see why "no" is so rude. I guess if it was in caps with a bundle fo exclamations after it could be viewd as rude.
By the same reasoning wouldn't "yes" be equally rude?
yes/no, yes please / no thanks. sure it's more polite with the longer phrase, but it's not rude to just say yes/no.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Please and thankyou go a long way. That's all

I always try and reply to tells, and I've noticed that if you ask politely you get a generally better response.

I do notice that a lot of people reply a long time after the initial tell was sent - usually because they are AFK or in Icon or Respeccing or in the AH - thus focussed on something else like fighting for their life.

Cause it doesn't drain 35% from an AV's end bar, it just drains 35 end.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Correct.

    The % is a lie.

    [/ QUOTE ]

would that explain why AVs & GMs aren't much affected by it?

Given that most PCs have 100 end as stock and I'm guessing the NPCs do too... so if you sap 35 it's a percentage. But if an AV/GM has more you're still sapping less...
  4. I'm struggling to build my elec/elec/elec sapper. I've been trying to use Mids, but I'm not the best with it and I'm struggling to tell how much end I'm sucking from my opponent.

Is it possible to tell that or am I missing something? Advice would be appreciated. Cheers
  5. for me it's a gimick and doesn't add anthing to the game - in fact I have an intense dislike of patrol XP. It's not like we need to make the game or levelling curve any easier.

The Badges are a bit meh... it's like being rewarded for not playing a toon - silly
  6. Scarlet Shocker

    Ghosting.

Personally I like to kill everything, but I know ghosting happens.

I'd guess there's a direct inverse correlation between the quality of the Trial/TF and ghosting
  7. It could have been something along these lines:

Marvel: Ok we're not gonna win this - but we can sue the backside off you until you run out of dough first. So, you pay us a shedload of revenue and we'll run an advert for your game in all our books. That way it looks like we're all friends.

NCsoft & Cryptic: Why you... ok then

Yeah, and that's my point: I don't think I've ever seen an advert for any MMO outside WoW, at least no more than the bits and pieces I've seen for CoH here and there. When I first started playing MMOs a few years back, I didn't really know of any that existed outside WoW, and I only got into them (namely this and EvE) through a mate at work.

    [/ QUOTE ]

NCSoft used to advertise extensively in Marvel comics. That's what got me into the game originally but that seems to have fallen by the wayside.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Possibly that whole Marvel suing Cryptic thing might have caused a rethink

    [/ QUOTE ]

or it may have been part of the "secret settlement"

    Excellent stuff!

@SS: True, but do we see similar efforts from other developers for other games? Don't think we're that alone in that respect really.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well we did once have the comicbooks themselves, tho I was actually trying ot make the wider point that NCsoft are rubbish at marketing and make very few efforts to get their products into the public domain (unless it's called Aion)

    yay for CoX!!!
im looking forward to seeing more

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think this is brilliant which is why I wanted to get it here.

What bugs me is how little of this stuff NC actaully does
  12. Yeps you read it here first.

I stuck it here because I know not all CoX players automatically gravitate to the comicbook culture forum but it's great news for CoX fans and the art's pretty fun and clean, by a guy called Lemuel Pew who apparently plays our fave game.

Check the link to the story here

Great to see Massively once again supporting the game!
  13. Nicely done! Interesting random "inserts"

    Well executed!

Superjump is kinda like a gimped fly. It works in a half-@$$3d way. It isn't quicker than fly...

    It is quicker then fly.

    Bring on the Hover Buff!!

And it'd still be generic and [censored]

    [/ QUOTE ]

By this logic, every Medieval themed hero and villain is also generic and [censored].

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Yeah but they mostly are.

The whole concept of "medieval" in comicbook lore has been done to death and failed. Look at the Captain Britain origin - straight from the pages of Mallory with Herb Trimpe art and that was the only thing that kept it going as long as it did.

Medieval & Superheroes don't mix. Cimerora just about works because it's a dip in zone. Totally optional (and I think goes towards the Well of the Furies origin arc.)

There are so many other worthy time periods and zones to discover within the Superhero/comicbook genre. Yes, we can have dragons (Fin Fang Foom anyone?) but please god no!!! Not the damsel in distress [censored] that's been done to death and belongs in a bygone age!!!!!

Go play AoC if that's what you want. They got a new patch today so have fun with that instead

Aww, why no actual increase to normal flight speed? How are we supposed to be faster than a speeding bullet?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If flight is increased too much then superspeed will (by a technical pov) be the inferior travelpower by a large margin.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    you have Hasten

    [/ QUOTE ]

ah but that includes an entire power pool, not just the travelpower We cant go down the road of comparing power pools now . . . . can we?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    We can.

To be serious for a moment, I have never felt that the power pool is about the travel power. It's the other stuff that goes with it that makes it worthwhile. I believe that most people take the travel pool solely for the power when it's actaully the pool in its totality that should be the big thing (but sadly that doesn't always work.)

Flight's probably the most popular power... I'd guess by a mile, and for two reasons; it's convenient and works in three dimensions, and also, you can fly! Fantastic.

Superspeed is quick. But it's rubbish when there's a brick wall you can't jump over.

Teleport is good in a straight line when you've got your rhythm going, but you're never gonna sight see on it

Superjump is kinda like a gimped fly. It works in a half-@$$3d way. It isn't quicker than fly but it has significant disadvantages over fly - ask anyone who's ever landed in a mob bigger than them

But, most of these powers have compensations from their pool. My own experience is that Teleport is probably the most complete travel pool, but Teleport Team is a bit... odd, especially when compared to the Assemble the Team temp power.

Similarly Superspeed needs work. Whirlwind is just horrid, but Hasten is ace. And let's not forget that Superspeed and Combat Jump were de rigeur in previous PVP rules (are we seeing something new here?)

Fly has it's gimps to. Group Fly? Please!!!!

So, is this change bad? Probably not but it's giving the bulk of toons a bit of a boost.

Maybe one way to look at it is that Fly is the base. Once you've got that down you can look at other travel powers. That's not the best or only way to look at it, but it's one way.

  18. I was speaking with Samantha earlier. Apparently she's joined a gentlemens club for the aggresive over-60s. I asked her if she was afraid and she said she wasn't worried about knocking out old members
  19. P.S. can I use this post to congratulate the West Indies for hanging out for a draw? Oh and generally just getting things to happen after the Friday 13th Debacle.
