I'm not gonna get into the "this is what I've spent" cuz frankly I can't remember what I paid
But the important thing here is that if you pay a monthly sub at £8.99 a month you're paying less per day than you would for a newspaper.
One, you get some fantastic graphics, excellent game play and the other you read in the smallest room in the house and then put it behind you.
Nuff said -

I had a dream about standing under a giant man holding a huge ball. When I woke up I was covered in sweat and was gripping a CD-ROM.
Im on my 3rd girlfirend since that day.....

Not bad in a week -
I got into CoX when NCsoft did advertise. I first looked at the full page ads in Marvel Comics - probably 18 months or a year before I started playing. They aren't there any more - but I'm guessing it worked for them then.

Back to the OP:
I think there are 2 separate things going on here -
1) In any fora there's the "in crowd" and the rest. This one's relatively small and has a significantly larger in group than many I've been on. We also tend to be less forgiving of those who we feel should know better - so we can get pretty heated amongst our more established posters and/or those who a) haven't bothered reading anything before posting the stupid question of the week - yet having a post count of 3 or something. (Recent example is the "server merge" thread I saw here this weekend.)
2) A lot of players sign up for the forums and then forget about it. Then, when called on it "Well it was in the forums, why didn't you check it out?" their response is never "I'm too lazy to look." Instead, as a normal face-saving reply it's "they are intimidating." -

I'm by no means expert and I've only got 2 villains at 50 so I'm not sure if I could suggest a viable strategy... but I'm happy to help and I think Mauve will if she can get her villain to 50 in time -
But you know that to speculate about such things will result in
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOM threads and requests for Server Merges because the game's dead on its feet as we all know right? -
The rest of the Devs are working on Issue 15.
You know, the shiny, 5th Anniversary issue.
Don't forget, I14 is to launch in Q1 2009. (ie within the next 30 days.) -
Great effort by all concerned. Worthy go, but we got beaten by a double spawn of mitos sadly.
We'll get him next time.
Maybe we should do one red side too -
Sad to see another player leave but I reckon you'll be back.
Sure the game's easier but the MA will be out soon and that'll be worth checking out.
Good luck and can I have your stuff? -
[ QUOTE ]
prefer it is they did an Eve style big graphical overhaul of the engine than do CoH2, infact with a big enough overhaul it literally would be CoH2 because of all the stuff they could do with a brand new game engine instead of the apparently duct tapped and leaking old one we have now
[/ QUOTE ]
Apparently the engine is capable of much more but the Devs are concious of not overloading many of the existing player base PCs. I don't think we'll see CoX 2 per se, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if I15 brings some anniversary shininess along side the content. -
Signed, good plan.
The inventions section was created prior to its launch and this is arguably bigger
Good suggestion -

I think this is interesting. The context of the cost to change builds is (I gather) quite expensive but I think it's a testament to how good the dual builds system is in CoX -
[ QUOTE ]
Don't know if this got mentioned in the MA Academy thread, but apparently we're due a new retail box, featuring the MA, sometime in the near future. Details currently unknown.
Wow, a new retail box. Clearly the game is DOOMed!
[/ QUOTE ]
Not before time and I've been advocating this for ages. Good news and good for the game! Let's just hope they get it into the shops -
[ QUOTE ]
The OPs issue would be nicely solved if the devs would add a "Teams looking for members" search box (or even just showed Team Leaders in the Search box). BaBs mentioned it ages ago as a cool feature he'd like to see in CoH and it was never heard of again since.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree that'd help a lot, but it would need something more - not just team leaders. -
[ QUOTE ]
Show some courtesy, leave them alone.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's a two way street mate.
If you REALLY don't want to team, why not hide? Then I won't see you, I won't invite you (with or without a tell) and everyone's happy. If you've got an, at best, ambiguous message then it's not surprising if you get the odd invite.
Sure if it's just a blind, I can understand it being problematic, but equally you and I both know that if you only want to team with specific people or your SG, it's simple enough to let those people know you're in game without the wider world knowing.
If you have a message saying "I don't want to team with anyone EVER" then chances are I won't invite you. But this is fundamentally a team game, and so if you're on the grid, and you show up in the search, without a categorical refusal to team, I might just invite you. If you really don't want to be invited to a team, I'd suggest the onus is on you to take the steps to prevent that. -
[ QUOTE ]
I agree with Carni. "Soloing" in the search comment means exactly that. If you send them a tell or invite anyway, you're just being rude and pushy.
[/ QUOTE ]
It doesn't exclude teaming, and a polite "would you like to join a team?" can hardly be considered rude or pushy. You only have to reply with a "no thanks" and most people will be cool with that. -

[ QUOTE ]
Which, of course, makes it okay to ignore it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly so.
If your message is simply "Soloing" that doesn't mean you are defacto NOT looking for a team. If you are really not looking for a team, then take yourself off the grid. "Soloing" just tells me what you're doing now. It doesn't say that you do not want to team.
[/ QUOTE ]
Erm no, soloing means "I'm playing solo". Doesn't take a massive logic leap to infer they've got "solo" in their comments because they Vant to be Alone.
If someones got "Soloing" in their comments it's highly unlikely they're just saying "I've no team at the mo but I'd be happy to join one so send me a tell anyway".
If you're going to say "Then stick your Status to the Red one" I could point out that the default is "Not looking for team" and you should only be sending Tells to those actively LTF if you're going to be such a stickler that people should set their statuses properly. It works both ways.
[/ QUOTE ]
If they Vant to be Alone so badly why they playing an MMO?
People forget to update their status regularly.
You might be soloing and I might invite you to form a team. It could be that having gotten an invite it might be just the mission you want to do. You can either join, or decline - but I'll be polite when I invite you so where's the problem? -

If you can see that my name is not grey, then you can also look at the end of the line and read 'Soloing' in the message field.

To be fair, often when people are in teams their names don't grey out. That's a bug, not the fault of the messenger. It's happened to me more than once.
[/ QUOTE ]
So that means they still cant read the no entry sign that means not looking for a team then?
[/ QUOTE ]
It could equally mean the lazy so and so just forgot to change their message -

Speaking of which, will this make Hover worthwhile* for melee ATs?
*(Please don't start an argument on opinions)
[/ QUOTE ]
My guess is that's one of the main reasons for buffing it. So it is to be hoped.
It's always struck me as somewhat incongruous that melee toons can't work effectively with hover given the number of comic characters that have melee based powers and an ability to fly.
So it is to be hoped. -
