    Praetorian Sally

Sally is the most powerful being in Praetoria.

    It's now a Sally Plot

I want something other than my Inherent power to be the one thing that sets my AT apart. Especially should that inherent be something like Vigilence.

The problem there is that people want to play those powers on a different AT. I get what you're saying and have a certain symbpathy that it would be nice for there to be a "signature power" for every AT - but if I were a gambling man I'd say you're in the minority.
  3. Given that Going Rogue is going to blur the distinction between hero and villain a great deal (moreso than proliferation has already) it seems reasonable that even "good" or "evil" power sets should proliferate across faction. It could be easily argued that it's not the powers themselves but how they are used which determines whether the wielder is one of the good guys or not. Let's face it, hitting someone in the face with a big axe/club/shield/power bolt would be considered a bit naughty to most right thinking people but here it's considered heroic by many so we're already stretching the realms of fantasy. No reason we can't stretch it a bit further then huh?

I'd have to say that, at this point, I really don't care one way or another what happens. When GR comes out, we'll see what actually gets done. In the meantime, if I log in, I'm happy if the friends I have are there. There is some chance that a merged server list will result in them not being, or they suddenly end up with a different name. So for now I'm happy as things are.
You might be happy but I'll trust the evidence of my own eyes and my own experience.

See? How's that? I'm still on topic mostly--moo-stly.

Merging the 2 server lists would be a perfect boost to go with GR, and all the new players it might attract - no more problems of people getting the "wrong" version of the game - just one big server list, with flags for East Coast, West Coast, British, German and french.

    I agree.

I've got some good friends who play CoH across the pond and yet I can't team with them. We get to play music to each other and talk about stuff but play together? no chance.

The servers are seriously down on numbers in the EU. This is evident from playing every day - there has been a very significant decline in server activity regardless of subscription numbers and that cannot be good for the game.

    Thank you guys

Good luck and I hope things improve for you rapidly.
  8. My preferred name was unavailable, but kept checking and it was suddenly available but unavailable being available seemed silly so I failed to avail myself of it.

Essentially, GR is truly unifying the two games so what better time to put a positive spin on it. They've merged everything else (Forums, downtimes etc) so to the gaming websites, it's the next logical step to bring all the players together.

It would be called "Consolidation, enabling our users to get the best out of the new content."

  11. Yes folks it's that time of year, when all the anticipation of the last three to four months results in the rampant consumerism we know and love as Christmas. (Or Hanukah or "The Holidays" if you want to be overtly politically correct.)

Of course it's not just about booze and presents (sadly) and oft times children have been known to huddle around the fire and sing songs celebrating the occasion.

I thought we might all suggest some suitable songs to be sung at this time of year in Paragon City and of course the Rogue Isles, and here's a few family favourites to start us off:

I saw Ghost Widow kissing Santa Claus
    Rudolf the dead Banished Pantheon
All I want for Christmas is Mu

and of course that perrenial classic

    Frostfire the Snowbeast

Feel free to add your own
  12. So you spose the cow with the accordion's making moosic?

I believe the overall best team is generally considered to be eight Fire/Rad controllers with leadership. How is that in any way a balanced team composition.

In general you can make a team with any eight ATs you want, you just have to adjust your play style a bit. Got 8 scrappers? Berserk scrapper-lock. 8 Blasters? The spawn melts before it can do much damage. 8 Tanks? Herd the entire map and take your time.
I was trying to convey my impression, and sure you can team with 8 similar ATs (as you could in AD&D but it was tough with lvl 1 wizards I recall)

There will always be those who try to maximise advantage and that's not always a bad thing but I've found that a balanced team is generally efficient enough and fun to be in a team with.

The real point here is that to me, the important thing about the game is the teaming aspect.

    But getting back on-topic...

A kleptocracy is a system that is takes advantage of government corruption. It's based on the Greek words kleptes ("thieves") and kratos ("rule") and it is often used to describe a systemic problem with those who use power for personal gain.

If you ever saw the Brian De Palma movie "The Untouchables" then that should give you an idea of what a kleptocracy is like.

You look at what's going on in the Rogue Isles, you have Arachnos agents, Rogue Isle Police, and various factions all working their own agendas. Right from the beginning you have Matthew Burke telling newcommers that they should plant tracking devices on Arachnos fliers and to steal information. You have Arachnos agents planning the "un-death" of Ghost Widow. You get close to an Arachnos agent of the same level (and without stealth) and you get attacked. The only group that you supposedly don't have to fear are the Arbiters, and they supposedly only serve Lord Recluse, not Arachnos itself.

    Not exactly an orderly system.
It was "think" - typo I'm afraid.

I guess I can't argue with that and Hitler's Germany was far more "lawful" than that, assuming you were a a "true aryan" but there were several blatant attempts to wrest power from some of the lower ranking higher ups but only one serious attempt to depose Hitler and even then when it failed (I'm referring to the Stauffenberg plot of course) the various factions beneath Hitler retreated into themselves... if only the Allies had known at the time.

Even the Stauffenberg plot was not a genuine attempt to change the course of the war. It was to restore the German aristocracy to its previous position of power.

One of the main themes that came out of my studies of Germany in WWII was that is was absolute chaos and the Rogue Isles seems to fit that well too.
  15. Hard to make too many sensible comments re Lost Vikings because I've never heard of it before, but one thing that struck me when I first started playing this game is how similar it is to AD&D in team make-up where the characters have their specific roles they must fill and only a good balanced team can make a real impact - whereas in some other games I sense that things are less clearly defined.

Personally I like the diversity here - I have no problem playing a character that's impossible to solo - in many ways that's what makes the game fun for me and I've tended to stay away instinctively from toons that can solo because for the most part I find soloing kind of dull.

That's my own take and not everyone else will feel the same (I hope) but I don't mind the fact that some ATs - or to be more correct some power combinations - don't solo very well.

And these are pictures of what I found:

    Figure 1

    Figure 2

    Figure 3

    Figure 4

I have drawn the red lines to indicate the edges of the geometry. In Figure 1, I have just taken a picture from inside the geometry. In the rest, my character is standing at a single spot, and I have merely rotated the camera to get snap shots from inside and outside the geometry.

As you can see, there is a big chunk of fully-rendered wall INSIDE that building, and it's not even visible from the outside! The computer is rendering two separate faces of two different geometries, and we only see one of them! I can only assume that the entire building is a bunch of textured cubes clipping into one another. It even has doors!!!

Isn't this inefficient design? Could it be that the lag of CoV (relative to CoH) is due to numerous number of these design flaws?

    If so...should we fix them?

I had a similar experience in Nerva - I used my Mission TP and ended up physically inside the building able to see out. Some walls were transparent but others had textures etc, when there was clearly no way they were meant to be seen.

I'd agree with this but what I think is different about the cases I'm citing here is that Hitler and Recluse both seem to actively encourage in-fighting and even "social darwinism."

Albert Speer made a lot of that in his "Inside the Third Reich" - which whilst needs to be treated with caution - is insightful in many ways.

You have an extraneous "Y" in the above paragraph. Please stop trying do derail this thread.

This is not about the impact of Hitler or WWII or Nazi Germany it's about the comparison between the organisation of the Rogue Isles authorities compared to Hitler's Germany. Please try and remain on topic.

Now if you want to try to say that Hitler did nothing of SIGNIFICANCE, then I know a whole group of people that would like to give you a talking to.

I'd argue that "Greatest" is not "great" and there are plenty of other things in the last century that can be claimed to have been greater than Hitler's influence.

Your implication that I might try to claim that Hitler is insignificant is puerile - but there are many other things that that have massive impact and influence on global social interaction within the last century that are nothing to do with him or his warped ideology.
