Are we Lost without the Lost? Yes we are! Save CoH!
The Triumph Protest Rally began at 4pm PST and continues strong.
Come show your support by picketing City Hall. Show NCSoft that we don't want to go. We want our game. This is our community, our friends, our family. Share your memories and feelings and above all, Show NCSoft that they have a player base still. They are throwing away their money by throwing us out.

Quote:I'm rather hoping that they just make everyone ftp VIPs. I've been a VIP for so long I'm not even sure which toons would have sets I couldn't access as a freebie. Try showing up and see if you CAN join it.I was considering upping my sub another month, but my time expires at midnight tonight for VIP. They may make all of us VIP eventually closer to the end-of-life date, but I don't see that happening in the next few days without work to close off new subs.
I wish you guys the best of luck. -
Hello Triumph, Moderators, Devs, and random passerby,
Since July, 2005, I have been playing CoH. When I started, it was a decent game. I remember the first time someone flew past and I was enthralled by it. I was alone though, and had no interest in playing WITH people. People are scary, and untrustworthy, especially on the net.
Then I made a friend on Triumph. He dragged me into random teams with all sorts of heroes. It was about 3 months before I realized that it was the same group of people on different alts. It was another 6 months before I accepted an invite to their SG and started being really social.
And you know what? Being social rocked. It turned a good game into something I truly loved. I made friends that have become my best buddies offline, and even fell in Love. This game gave me a means to get to know people and to become a leader of events on a regular basis. This game became my online home, over the years.
People have bashed the game often, and rightly so. The game is old, and full of bugs. The graphics are out of date, despite the best attempts of the talented crew of programmers it has had. One can look at any number of other games and see that. Games like Skyrim and SW:ToR have put it to shame with contacts that actually talk to you, that look like human beings instead of marionettes. The missions are often full of typos and the worst grammatical mistakes. Heck, there are taskforces that have foes saying things like "We'll get you yet Starget!!!" Someone just made a minor goof. As a game, CoH is way behind the times, and has fallen into disrepair.
That said, there are things about CoH that no other mmo or game has and that we are likely to never see again. Our costumes are 100% our design. We dun need some epic raid gear to make a costume awesome, we can be epic looking from the moment we make our toons. Best yet, our costumes dun make one whit of difference to how well we do our jobs as tanks, trollers, or w/e.
We have User generated mission content. Sure, a number of us use it for farms, but many others make real stories, in depth and detailed. The closest any game comes to that is Spore, and it doesn't do half the job.
We have REAL base design. The engine is clunky at times, and the graphics can be glitchy, but anyone who has spent time touring with @War Base, or @Stacker, or @Turbo Starr can attest that there is real art being produced. Champions attempted this, and failed. No other mmo can give you this.
Most important of all though, is communication. I'm not just talking about Developers that are in that game, playing at our side. I'm talking about a pure Hero talking to a pure Villain on a completely different server. It doesn't matter what faction you are. It doesn't matter what zone you are in. It doesn't matter what server you are playing. You can talk. You can create custom channels that can be accessed from anywhere by those on them. Even the best of the modern games cannot touch this. ToR is failing because it's people cannot communicate like we do. WoW had troubles because factions couldn't talk to one another, and this let people dehumanize those they could gank. No MMO on the market today will be able to build a community like ours without this freedom of open conversation.
CoH is behind the times. I doubt it makes money for the people in the board room anymore. It is 8+ years old now, and so far out of date that new players can't even be bothered to notice it amongst all the shiny toys out there for them to gape in awe at.
That said, CoH is the best MMO that has ever been on the market. Our Dev team made it that way, and our community kept it that way. That is why I am still here after so very long a time. That is why I will stay until the day they pull the plug on what has been such a large, influential part of my life.
That day is November 30th, 2012. Or so we have been told. I agree. It is time for CoH to retire. I do not agree it should have been done like this. Cutting development, merging servers. That lets a community ease into the end of their game. Many MMOs have done so, and the people drift off until it is shut down for good. Just shutting us off with 3 months notice...
We didn't deserve that.
The Dev team and Crew at Paragon did not deserve that.
We will petition and we will rant and we will rail at this. It will make no difference. The official notices are out. The ball is rolling. CoH is about to die.
The people at Paragon are likely already putting their applications on Monster.com. I hope that other companies see their skill and talent and give them higher paying work. I hope they can use what they have learned here to great greater works than ever CoH was, some day. I wish you all the best of fortunes in your futures. Thank you for all you have done for us!
Some of us will refuse to purchase NCSoft products because of this. I think this is a good idea to make your point that their termination of this franchise was wrong, but it is a bad choice as well. If we do not support a company that has brought us great work in the past, they will stop being able to produce great work in the future. Our talented developers that have been reassigned instead of ink slipped will lose their jobs as well. Other game makers will decide the great things done by this company are not worth moving to other games. We all lose for this.
I hope our players have the ability to move on, and trust that they will. Share your knowledge of what made CoH the best game to ever be ended with anyone who will listen. Play Guild Wars 2, and encourage the devs there to bring in the things you loved. Send in requests for a CoH2 that is fresh and up to date. Move to Secret World and bring friends. But never forget, it was you that made this game something that could make an out of date, unrealistic game like this something that kept me, and many others, enthralled and happy for most of a decade.
I love you all for that. Even you annoying trolls and gold farmers.
Thank you for so many years of companionship.
Good bye CoH, I'll stay here with you till the end....
@Sayaki, aka Michael Alcock. -
I have just been informed CoH will be gone in a few months. This badge seems kind of pointless now. They all do....
The really hard way was never intended to be earned before the last incarnate slot. The one we'll never have now. Positron felt it wasn't able to be earned except by the best of the best.
I am going to run this. I am going to MAKE this happen. Some day, you'll look back at this damned game and say it's meaningless, but you will know that there were gaming gods here.
The RHW badge runs will happen.

Hello Triumph,
I have been convinced, after several weeks, to make another attempt at the Really Hard Way badge for the Magisterium Trial. I am looking for Volunteers for this, and any shared information someone cares to give now. The requirements for the badge are as follows:
Defeat Tyrant in the last phase/fight of Magisterium without defeating any of the Lights of the Well.
The lights of the Well can only be defeated by using the temp power: Quills of Jocas. They are one shot by this power, so we must be clear to not use this power in your attack chain.
In order to win this trial, I am seeking several small things from my players. As I am very lenient, do not expect me to enforce all of them, but I do expect you to make an attempt to be ready. (Edit: Remember, if for some reason, you cannot manage the recommend Incarnate Slots, having something is still better than having nothing.)
- Be a +3 lvl incarnate
- Have a t4 Core branch Lore pet
- Have either Assault or Support Hybrid
- Have Ultimate Inspirations ready to use. The more the better.
- Be prepared to listen and follow procedures outlined before the trial.
- Edit: Expect the Tyrant fight to take the whole 20 minutes. Do not get nervous and jump the gun.
If you wish to Volunteer for this trial, now is the time. I plan to attempt this run at 4pm Pacific/7pm Eastern time on Sunday, September 2nd. Remember, space is limited, so it is on a first come, first served basis.

Quote:The e-1337 badge:Argh! That woulda been a kuul screenshot to get on my toon too. Well past that myself, but too bad the devs didn't make a badge for hitting 1337 and calling it "Leet" or "Elite" or something like that
The Freakshow have mockingly awarded you this badge in recognition of your obsessive compulsion to do both good AND evil deeds in pursuit of world wide recognition. -
Just because it's fun (and funny), let us see when you hit LEET badges!

Quote:Last time I saw that message, I tricked out a teleporter and was outside Pocket D at an illegal jump address. took em a month to get it fixed for me.This happens very rarely, I believe when either the instance/zone your character was in has crashed, or your last known location has somehow become corrupt. I've had this happen to me once, I asked CuppaJo for help (this shows you how long ago it happened) and she told me to give it half an hour or see and if it fails, to petition Customer Support. Turns out it only lasted about 20 minutes or so.

I think the worst part is that we were about to win. we had Maelstrom out for the third time, with an excellent league of people who were tearing it apart. HD's health was never below 80% the entire time, and the group was rearing to go... Was darned good for the first time I have led one of these.
I also think it was closer to 15 minutes. I had time to attempt to log in umpteen times, actually log in on another toon and come back to the same message on -Michael, then go in and prepare some coating for chicken, come back to the same message and reset my entire system before it let us back on....
...and while I know that I'll get the badges and run this again in the future, cause I AM stubborn that way, I also know there is no way I can claim to have led every iTrial to a win on my first time leading it anymore... That was taken away from me thanks to a stupid bugged Mass booting of my entire league
I can't get that back. There went my braggin' rights -
Congratulations everyone! This was a fun contest

I thought there were 11 entrants in Magic/Arcane?
Either way, the video looks nice and there is some real impressive work on the bases. Can't wait to see how yall choose -

@force majeure
Whoot the Builders Block lifted and after resisting the urge to spend 300k on a large empty room and call it "The Emperor's New Base" we have:
PERC Base 40 - Triumph
Darkmoor Hold - A Brooding Keep for the up and coming Arcane Superhero.
But I know we should wait for next week, after the judging.... -
Quote:hmmm.... sneaky, and effective. You have my whole hearted support for this endeavorThey can ... but right now we're not, simply so we don't "give away" what we're doing so our "competitors" can SEE what we've been up to (and what they're up against). Once the judging starts and everything, THEN we'll be able to post screenshots.
This is one of the major reasons why I kicked off the whole "I'm Done!" format that everyone else has been using since. It gives everyone a numbers sense of what has been done, without giving away visually what has been accomplished in everyone's respective entries. It also keeps this thread "alive" with posts as people finish, while also reminding everyone that this is a contest that people are participating in. -
Perc Base 2 on Justice.
Starting Prestige: 300,029k
Remaining Prestige: 29
(Perc player accidentally had SG mode on. I have not used that prestige)
Secret Entrance Room:
- 1 Entrance
- 12 Decorative
Oversight Center A:
- 849 Decorative
Oversight Center B:
- 1 Start Up
- 749 Decorative
Total Items: 1612
Figure I'll look in on it again in a week or so and see if there's anything I want to change, but done now.
Edit: Looked, fixed a handful of nitpicky things I wasn't 100% pleased by and corrected my totals here. 10-29-11

8 minutes 3 seconds on an Ill/storm.
I'm sure I can manage to up that with a little effort though. -
If the judges allow, I will gladly be joining.

After reading all the replies, I am seeing that the following opinions are what holds:
Afterburner: 'How dare they make a non combat power!'
As I said, it's good for a mule if you need the space, and has a large enough def bonus to substitue for a phase shift as a quick getaway. Good for some, not others.
Burnout: 'Recharge is too long'
Burnout.... 1 enhancement slot (auto)... 1 recharge redux... poof, 20 minute recharge. Just don't get it if you don't need it. I certainly don't.
Spring attack: 'not enough damage'
Total agreement. But a nice frill for martial arts, SJ, shield Charge, ice trollers, etc....
Zone tp: 'nothing wrong except I can't use it'
Agreed.
This sticks out to me though
Quote:Would you really feel any better if I went AT by AT, and build by build for every single AT in the game and worked out a way for it to be useful in at least 10 different situations? I'm sure I can if I put my mind to it. As it is, I threw out what were the most obvious ideas at the moment to me.Finally, your two slot complaint being garbage, no it's not. The examples you gave a are very specific and don't really help outside of them. The whole concept of the game is to build how you want within reason. To have a sacrifice of two slots with the claim that you will use them in only very limited amounts goes against that whole idea.
But as you said, the whole concept is to build however you want. So, feel free to choose to ignore the well meant statement that complaining about needing two powers that so many players already have is garbage and continue to feel it's a waste of time. I hope it helps you build the best.
My overall opinion is gonna stand here. I think we are mostly overreacting with the 'they bite' comments. The truth is 'They are nice, but don't really fit in my build atm.'
