I disagree that there aren't enough people to play CoH and MUO. People could have ( and probably did ) made the same arguments about all the fantasy based games, probably even WoW.

    Errr, ok.

I don't think I had said that though. Didn't intend to if that's what I typed.

I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to Spud Lover just through the quick reply

As for them saying they couldn't put things in coH and will try to put them into MUO, well that's what every game designer does. They think of these great ideas that are forced to be shelved. Along comes a new game and they can do them now.

But guess what. MUO will have the same problem. There will be so many ideas from Cryptic that they won't be able to do them all, so some will get scrapped or back shelved or what have you.

That's just the way the world works.

"City of Heroes was very tightly focused on moment to moment combat," Rogers says. "The Marvel game will have more big components to it. It's going to be all the stuff we wanted to put into City of Heroes, and you'll get to run around in Marvel costumes. We've got more money now and more people. We'll add more depth. We want to take it to the next level."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thats a bit disheartening for CoH players. We're the reason Cryptic has more money. The quote makes it sounds like the plan is, put all the awesome ideas we wanted to have in the old game into the new game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

While I see where you are coming from, I took that as just an evolution of skills. I don't think they are withholding stuff from us, but the game engine does so by default.

What I mean is that by making a game engine you are defining the world, and when you define a world you inherntly block stuff off.

What that stement ment was they wanted to put stuff into that game that the CoH engine wouldn't be able to support without another major rewriting of the engine ( ie an expansion ).

The people who say this game is going to be dying over the next few years are fooling themselves into thinking pesemisticly.

I know the game won't last forver but we're still fine and will be for a long time.
  4. The point of this thread was to reprint the ideas from the origonal and continue them. As such bumping the origonal only creates confusion.

    But thanks for helping.
  5. I'm going to PM Lighthouse to see if we can get this stickied.

    "Moral Combat"

My opinion on the whole "blurring the line between fantasy and reality" thing is this. I think it's just a line used to make the point. My opinion is that unless the kid is unstable to begin with any kid can tell what is real and not.

Like someone said about Looney Toons, they do insane stuff in those. I have little doubt a child or 6-10 who watches that might try something like that but that's what being a kid is about, learning what is real and cannot be done. I mean how many people HAVEN'T jumped off the couch trying to fly?

The game ratings do work just are being ignored by dumb parents. If a 6-10 year old gets a game made for them then they will be doing Bugs Bunny like stuff. It's safe for them to do this in general because nothing is too grotesque. They quickly learn, "Oh hey, I CAN"T run off the edge of the stairs and stand on the air until I look down. That's good information to know."

So by the time they become a teenager they should already know what isn't real.

In short I find this whole debate about video games as nothing more than some people being afraid of something new and blaming it for all evil.

Actually I may even be wrong about the whole bad parenting thing. I wouldn't be suprised if parents are just as good now as they have been for all of history. It's probably just a new ratings system that they have to get used to. Or I could be wrong about this.

    So I've rambled enough.

    "Moral Combat"

It doesn't matter why we fight to those people. All they see is a scary violent world and they are trying to make others scared of it too.

    "Moral Combat"

I "loved" the leap of logic when they said the 9/11 terrorists trained on flight sims so therefore a kid who plays GTA will go around killing cops.
  9. I do not have anything to add to this topic but I wish to revive it in the hopes that the Devs look at it and consider its sugestions.

I know thread necromancy is bad but this is a topic I feel is too important to let die and more than a month since it saw a fresh post.

Wait, it says the invasion happened 2 years ago but the history page says the invasion happened in 2002 which would be 4 years ago.

Is it still 2004 in game? I hope not because then Bush would still be in office for 4 more years.

Hello peoples. Sorry for gushing like this but I just got back from test server. I went there to grab pictures of my hero in flight. I loved the pictures so much I just couldn't resist posting them. So if you want check out the Golden Eagle in flight gallery.

But this one I think is my favorite.

So, again, sorry for posting this but I'm just geeking out about these pictures and wanted to share with people. Enjoy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Your favorite is also my favorite. That's an amazing screenshot. The angle, the background, the color... they've all come together to make for an astonishingly heroic pose. You couldn't have drawn it better.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks. I grabbed that one after I took a shot behind Blyde and thought it would look better in front. So I spun around and without changing the camera I got that picture.

    It's now my background.

Oh and it seems I did this at the very last second since the new poses are already down.

That the game used to be a whole lot more fun to play than it is now, before nerfing became the dev solution to every single problem?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Purely subjective. Some of us enjoy the experience a whole lot more now than we did before the changes. Try keeping this to facts and not to personal perception.

    [/ QUOTE ]

People just love to complain about things that are changed. I suspect it tastes like chocolate to them.
  16. Yeah, he's wrong about the scrapper sets. I was in 3rd wave beta and my character was regen/katana.

We've had the same sets since I joined beta.

Also, doesn't smoke greneade deal no damage, hence they cannot beat +8 mods with only that.

Orignally, all the windows in buildings had their lights on at night. This was finally changed to be more realistic so that random windows are lighted. They even come on one-by-one now when the sun goes down. Really nice touch.

  20. Alright, I've been reading this topic all day from school but have been unable to reply. Now sit back as I rant for a bit.

Like a number of people, I am disapointed with the Villain Prestige Power Pools. For me, there isn't anything exceptional. What I wanted for my En/En Brute was the energy pool that Scrappers get.

The pools just do not fit concept wise, not just for my character, but in general. Sure you can make a character that fits it so I don't think they are awful.

I guess my biggest beef with the powers is the way they are granted. This has been mentioned before but oh well. We are villains. Most villains don't want to be a lackey for Recluse so the way CoH gets their epic pools seems forced. My villain is only in the Rogue Isles because ( besides the fact that it is a game and I cannot leave to go somewhere else) it is a good place to hide and test the limits of his power. He has no desire aligning with Recluse. Had the non-arachnos contact been around when he got out of the Zig I would have done them. The patron powers seem more suited to heroes who, in general, would welcome the tutalage of the Freedom Phalanx.

Next up is the powers themselves. I loved how in CoH the powers all fit togeather thematically. That isn't to say I dislike the concept of the patron powers (excluding the coments above). My ideal solution would be to allow both types (epic and patron) for both games. As I mentioned, my Brute would take the energy scrapper pool while my scrapper would probably have taken some powers from Statesman.

The arguments about the usefulness of the powers, from a brute perspective, they seem meh. Ranged attacks on a brute is good. A hold is also welcome. A pet can be useful too. However there is nothing that makes me go "WOW!"

Anywho, that is all I can think of at the moment. Hopefully I have made some sensible arguments.
  21. Did you know...

The boards Pre-Beta had many inteligent people who didn't fly off the handle over blattently over powered things? Yup, back then the boards were civil and close knit.

Aurora Borealis wasn't always in IP. She replaced Malaise when hers and Sister Psyche's minds were seperated through a now unavailable TF. I think that's it anway. The whole deal with Psyche is kinda confusing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

AB was labeled as Sister Psyche and handed out that task force. She has been in IP since day one. However, once Sister got her body back, AB took over Mailase's job in IP.

    Did you know?

-- At the end of closed beta, it was requested of all the players to gather outside of the Police Dept. in Kings Row for a photograph. This screen shot later turned up in one of the guides for the game.

-- Some of the first pictures of City of Heroes (well before beta) showed the now removed hit location chart. Jack claimed the idea was to allow characters to aim for a leg to slow movement or the head for extra damage, among other hit locations. This was removed from the game in hopes of making the game easier.

-- Before the game's release, Cryptic claimed they were aiming for an 'E' Everyone rating. Many followers of the game were worried the game would become too childish. All in all, going for an 'E' rating for an on-line game is a pipe dream and very little was actually changed in an attempt to get the lower rating. Of course, City of Heroes has a 'T' Teen rating.

-- Every possible combination of starting powers has at least one attack (that is, a power that does damage). This was changed very early on due to the fact that it was possible to make "gimp" builds where Brawl was your only attack.

-- At one time, the talks were to obtain your final Power Pool power (fourth in the set), you would have to take all the other powers in the set (instead of the requirement to take two as it is now). Fans were worried about builds being too similar and being so restricted in power choices that it was changed.

-- MacAllen, a very powerful fan in pre-beta and beta days, once claimed that if Cryptic didn't make the changes he suggested, the game would fail. MacAllen is long since gone and the game is still here.

-- Statesman was VERY involved in the pre-beta boards, often responding to personal attacks and game critizism in a public forum. It was inspiring to read and gave many readers hope in the game since no one had heard of Cryptic Stuidos before.

-- Jack 'Statesman' Emmert is a huge fan of The Hulk.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't remember the hit locations, but my memory isn't.. Hey look! A distraction!

Also I don't remember MacAllen saying that. But then again my memory isn't...

But the point of this reply is to say that I don't think Statesman was VERY active back then. I would say he is MUCH MORE active now-a-days (post release).

Did you know that Fury was originally intended for Tankers but showed to make them to powerful so they saved Fury for Brutes?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't know if it's true, but Fury _might_ have been my suggestion, created in order to solve the damage problems tankers were having at the time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think it might have been sugested/thought of for tanks but I'm sure they quickly decided against it.

Did you know that an 'open, unbalanced' (any character could choose any power) system was designed and completed (to the point of in-game movies being released) for CoH in it's alpha state? And that, at great expense and the cost of years of production, it was declared unworkable and turned into the Archetype System?

For proof, check out the 'Initial Gamplay Demo' here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    First, I already said this.
Second, it was never announced that it was the Alpha version of the game so therefore we should assume it was pre-alpha. Plus I was there.
Also there was only 1 movie ever released.
