In other words: the OP is why we can't have nice things.
And replies like yours are why I, the OP (and others) prefer to have NICER things (aka more complete gaming experiences and more reliable information). Sorry if you prefer to settle for less. But hey, at least you won Dev brownie points. That should get you into closed beta real fast.
Gratz. -
Quote:But its not more than I was told, and its not sooner than I expected. I was led to believe the Going Rogue would be a complete retail product ready for release in Spring 2010 and now its just setback after setback with compensation features to make up for the last minute delays (which is fine, and I'm pleased with the quality of the content being proposed - if and whenever it actually shows up). Then cancel your sub. You're not going to get better answers than you've been given.
Pre-orders are a good way to get quick cash.
Ultra-mode progress occurred faster than expected so they decided to get it out early. Getting stuff sooner than expected makes most people happy.
GR is an expansion based on a new world to explore with 20 levels of new content and a way for existing players to switch sides.
Incarnate levels were not known to be coming by anyone until the PAX thing to my knowledge.
If the fact that you're getting MORE than you were told you were getting and some of it SOONER than expected bothers you so much, cancel your subscription in revolt.
In the meanwhile, Id like to know "why all the delays when you have more resoures than you ever had before?" We definitely saw more done with less in years past (Ouroborous is a shining example so forgive me for having different expectations as a result.
Besides I'm not really going to cancel; I am however going to assume that Castle and BABs are having a very good laugh along with the rest of you guys at the expense of my stupid post, but I know what happens when constan setbacks interfere with the bottom line (which is when Ill be the one laughing, and I say that after having been laid off twice in one year myself). So go ahead and take my hard-earned money anf monthly fee and burn it. It doesn't mean much to you but in these hard luck times they certainly mean enough to me (and I chose to spend them here). Remember that and be kind (rather than condescending).
Thanks. -
To answer to multiple jabs and comments regarding "where was it said exactly that Going Rogue was to include Ultra Mode, the answer is HeroCon.
It came out of HeroCON. Its documented in the keynote speech, the youtube video, the many spinoff threads on this very forum asking what pc requirements folks needed to run ultra mode when Going Rogue went live. Massively had a pr piece on it being a special feature of GR; Paragon Wiki even credits Ultra Mode as being originally slated for Going Rogue before it was revised for I17 release...
Stop with the mob mentality, stop attacking the 5 year vet forum outsider for asking questions, and stop pretending that events and announcements regarding the inclusion of ultra mode in Going Rogue. I may not be a closed beta/forum darling like some of the usual suspects we see around but I am. A 5 year game veteran; I am a paying customer and I did pay for my preorder just like everyone else purely out of love for the game.
And now I'm disappointed, and concerned and I'm asking a tough question because I need a better answer about what's happening here. There have been a lot of great improvements and advancements in this game in five years but a lot of silly mistakes too that wasted time, money and resources needlessly that could've been avoided if someone had just asked the right questions...
Belittling me to find a fault of mine to attack is not going to detract from the bigger question that's on a lot of people's minds (both those who pre-ordered and those who are thinking about buying back in).
After two years of development and impressive promotions and staffing increases, why is Going Rogue being pieced out over a 9 month period from preorders in March to end game content in 4th quarter 2010 or worse, 1st quarter 2011?
NC(whatever its called now) doesn't have to answer this question but it'd be nice if they could. Its not my reputation that matters for delivering (or repeatedly failing to deliver) quality gaming products (because Aion and Tabula Rasa have been such great successes) but please please please don't start ******* up City of Heroes when its really one of the last, greatest MMO products on the market right now.
Now please, somebody, civilly answer the original question: what happened that caused Going Rogue to be doled out piece by piece? Cause if it really is down making the company's bottom line look better, I'm outta here. -
Quote:They already got my preorder money.... thanks. It's exactly the same as any other pre-order of something. But better in this case, because we get to play with some of the stuff in it a little earlier.
When you pre-order a console-based video game, you plunk down a portion of the money, and you still don't get to play it until it releases. This way, the parts of what you pre-ordered that are READY are accessible right away.
If you don't feel like they deserve your money now....don't give it to them. Those of us that did feel they deserved it will get to play with the stuff YOU will have to wait another 9 months to play with.
Seems pretty simple to me. -
Quote:The final 10 lvls weren't promised as part of COV, the retail box product, so that's fine.as has been mentioned before, the final 10 levels of cov and coh were delivered in issues after their release, issue 7 took an ungodly amount of time, too. Also, lets not get too hostile about this with the "entitled" crack, they give you the option of getting it now and having the bonus of having the powers before everyone else. incarnates are not the focus of going rogue, they are a new system that we are getting a part of in gr and will actually be out in issue 19. gr will have all the content we had been told about, side switching, praetoria, the powersets, it will just have a bonus of a part of a system from issue 19. they arent entitled to anything(nor are you) they are offering additional value to a product and for an inexplicable reason, you are taking it as a rather personal affront.
Ultra mode was promised as part of GR, another retail box product, and now its not and in its place is PART of a new yet wholly different content update as equal substitute but the rest of it won't be available until 3 to 6 months (or more) after the retail box becomes available.
THAT is something totally different than Grandville and COV; THAT is bait and switch substitution that occured AFTER consumers paid forward on a preorder and the promise of getting a COMPLETE retail product in July.
And that is a big problem (or its going to be very soon). -
Quote:But you think its okay if they take a consumer's money for preorders in March, with the promise of having full access to the product in July, and THEN announce after taking that money that the last piece of the product won't be available until MUCH later (at least 4th quarter 2010 or first quarter 2011).I swear if they announced that everyone was going to get free cash money with every purchase of GR, someone would complain.
I'm so glad you feel they're entitled to my money 9 months before they actually deliver the whole product. -
Quote:An ungodly firestorm didn't stop anyone from releasing the Body Alteration/Gender Change feature as part of a retail booster pack (and lots of folks felt that should've been a free feature). So why is this any different? Can you imagine just how much of an ungodly fire storm would get kicked up if Ultra Mode wasnt free content? Given how long people have been griping about the visuals on the game, and how the last change was five years ago (iirc)?
It made absolute sense to release it as free content. Thats probably the over-riding reason. Because it would require a Jackanism of game design to make people pay for it. -
Quote:You're spinning the facts a bit, my dear.Yes, Ultra Mode is part of Issue 17 (per the splash page on the main site for Issue 17), which everyone has access to whether they buy GR or not.
Before Issue 17 was announced, Ultra mode was promised as a major feature of the retail expansion pack, Going Rogue. When Issue 17 was announced, that was no longer the case. So off the retail pack came Ultra Mode and in its place comes the first level of the Incarnate system (with the other 9 levels to come at a late date).
Keep in mind this announcement comes in Spring 2010 when GR was provisionally scheduled for release (and is now pushed back to July). So this "swap out" of upcoming features is seemingly a last minute decision (and this is after 2+ years of development mind you) - but for what reason? -
-
Sorry but the question's gotta be asked. The way things are looking now players have to:
- Buy in early to get early access to Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning
- Wait until July and get access to four zones, 7 new costume sets, 2 additional powesets (parts of which we've previously seen in-game for NPCs), and level one access to the new incarnate system
- Wait until 4th quarter 2010 to get the remaining 9 levels and the new endgame system and perhaps another high-level zone (but only if we buy GR 3 months earlier).
And in the meanwhile, Ultra mode which was flagged for retail is now free. And in its place comes an awful lot of last minute bait and switch improvements.
My question is: why? Why not just package it together in one retail expansion and let players enjoy? The way its all piecemealed out now, players might as well wait until 4th quarter to get Going Rogue and enjoy it all in one go rather then buying in now and waiting 9 months to get the full product?
This just seems like a really weird business model somehow... What's the logic behind it again? -
I just noticed this last night and tested it again on live and the Training Room to make sure I wasn't mistaken, but the "bouncing" animation when a toon jumps into a deep body of water (the Ouroborous pool, for example) is broken.
On live, when you jump into the water, the body "bounces" in the water before coming to a rest on the water's surface. On the Training Room now, in any body of deep water, there's no bounce anymore. The toon just stops suddenly, stiffly when they hit the water with no further reaction. It looks very unnatural.
I know - way low on the priority list of bugs but thought it was worth mentioning. -
I'm very optimistic.
That interview is great, btw. War Witch is already off to a great start in her new role - but if you've been around the game for 5 or so years like I have, then you already knew she would be. She really is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet or have the pleasure to work with - we're still very lucky to her on CoH after all this time.
And she's a good writer to boot (yes, I read the book. Quite enjoyed it too). -
Any chance we could have the following QoL improvements by/shortly after GR:
1) Tailor Teleport Power
2) Tailor Shop interface for use/placement in Bases
3) Mission Architect interface for use/placement in Bases
4) Ability to sell enhancements in Pocket D
5) Extended period of daylight time (it gets dark way too fast and stays that way for way too long)
6) A "shawl" or "shoulder wrap" costume piece
7) Vet rewards: ability to assign Vet Pets to individual costume slots
8) A skateboard emote or travel power
9) Place Community Information Boards in the Rogue Isles
10) Allow Community Information Boards to provide "Matchmaker" services for players who are looking to join a random team *instantly* - no questions asked
Thanks. -
Quote:So I did this, and it worked like a charm however the repair/patching process has still taken 12 hours - and I'm another 4 hours from finishing since starting it yesterday.Instead of trying to download the whole thing when installing, try the steps I mentioned here:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...40#post2605540
Let it use the files you've already got installed as a starting point for patching, rather than having to download 3+ Gigabytes of data that's already on your machine. -
It finally started updating after 20 minutes then it stalled.
Server might just need a reboot, but we'll have to wait until the West Coast wakes up. -
I'm having the same issue. Might have something to do with recent server maintenance.
-
Damn, Harlick left? He wasn't even here a year, was he?
-
I'm *very* pleased by this announcement - and I'm sure others will be too...
-
Congratulations all around! This definitely sounds like a winning combo.
-
Thread/subject title reworded to avoid confusion.
-
I swore I wasn't going to post again (argh!) - but in light of the free server transfers announced today, I'm wondering where are the best/worst server populations.
Thoughts? -

Rule #1 of the forums is Don't Post Angry, but close behind it is Rule #2 Don't take it personally.
There's really no reason to stop reading, posting, and enjoying the forums and the community. No one is trying to drive you out.
Sorry, I had to pop back in and turn my rep meter back on (I got called out in another thread for shutting it off - sorry about that).
I stand by my decision to stop using these forums. Its not a matter of being driven out per se, its moreso:
a) I'm a poor communicator
b) Unless I read these forums consistently (which I don't), I won't get the full picture of what's going on.
c) What's said in isolation on these forums is more often than not in direct opposite to what's being said outside of this forum. Its no wonder BABs pointed out how brutal the comments were on the Massively article - but that's where a better PR team could really do the game some justice. Word of mouth about CoH isn't kind right now, and not everyone's taking the time to stop in the CoH forums to get the "right" message.
d) This forum is chock full of Debbie Downers - and now I'm starting to sound like one. Definitely time to go.
Again, I wish everyone well, and if I see you in-game, I'll be glad to team regardless. Its more fun to socialize there than it is here.
So long, and thanks for all the fish. -
Quote:Hmm... Odd that Rubberlad turned off his reputation despite having no intention to.Quote:I don't find it odd at all. After the way he behaved in his other thread Are All Good Things Meant for CoH Going to Aion? he probably turned it off because he is anticipating getting neg repped by people that read it, and doesn't want everyone to watch as he gets more red jellybeans.
Actually, I turned it off (and removed my sig) because I'm quitting the forums completely - a direct result of my original post and poor follow-up responses in the other thread. I've no issue with leaving the rep meter on regardless - so there, I've turned it back on. Feel free to tar and feather me some more and have fun with it. I would.
Adios!
