  1. I don't use Hand Clap a lot, just when I get surrounded by too many foes and I need some out of the fight until I can kill a few of them.

I use Spring attack mostly as an opener, to generate some initial agro if we're with a group and I want to prevent things from running to the blasters too quickly, so I use it as an AoE taunt basically.

The one time we got a mob stuck in the floor and couldn't complete the mission was with my Fire/Fire Brute and it was my Blaster friend who had the knockback.

    EDIT: http://goingrogue.cityofheroes.com/en/installed.html

Seriously. Give me the FTP and the info to change and I'll do it myself. My job is website maintenance. Guarantee I can get it done before next freaking week.
No point in ranting. Be glad someone's looking into it. In large companies even simple things are complicated.

Unfortunately the DeathAdder is the only Left-Hand model that Razer carries. The Naga only has a Right-Hand version.

I used Logitech mice before I got te Razer one. My main issue with that was that because there are no drivers, you only have the single mouse setting in the Settings menu. I also use an Apple Magic Mouse, just not for gaming. The settings on things like sensitivity and tracking speed that would work for the gaming mouse would not work for the Magic Mouse and vice-versa. With the Razer mouse I have proper drivers for OSX and I can set the settings separately for each mouse.

Part of the fault is with OSX for not providing multiple settings for different mice connected.

So my question becomes how does this work with MS mice?
  5. I've only been playing for two months, and the biggest gripe I have with the game is the repetitiveness of the mission maps.

The stories are good. It's just that everything looks the same.

I've just levelled my first Praetorian, and it was very refreshing.

I dislike the sewer and grotto maps the most, as everything looks the same, they're cramped to navigate with large characters as the camera bumps into the ceiling, and there is very little contrast so it's hard to see where you are, where you are going and what the layout of the area is.

Every now and then you run into a nice mission map, bit it apparently only gets used once. I really liked the oil rig on the Villain -> Rogue final mission. I liked a lot of the maps in the story from Dean MacArthur about this clone. Things like that I would not mind to see re-used.

By far the best looking outdoor map I've seen so far is Praetoria. It would be a great place if everyone was allowed to go there, like Pocket D.

To me it seems that you get a lot of the old and boring stuff all the time, and the new and varied stuff is only used very little.

The starting experience in the Rogue Isles is very bad compared to Praetoria. I understand the devs want to give nice stuff to their paying customers, but I would make Praetoria and the newer content much more the focus for new players trying out the game, if they're interested in attracting new players to this game.

My highest level toon is 27, so I can't comment on the high level stuff, but that's my 2 euro cents.

So I guess this moody, dark, foreboding, forever night time revamp of Dark Astoria could be considered a Combo Breaker.
I've been playing on the Rogue Islands nearly all the time. It could use some more sunshine. It's all very grey and gloomy.

I've levelled one character in Praetoria, and I think it's very nice. A pitty that after level 20 you can't return any more, even though going to First Ward isn't a problem apparently.

I have one character that I did level in Atlas Park, and I find the light there almost too bright. It gives the impression of being in or close to the tropics.

  9. As far as the story goes, it still makes very little sense to me, especially because I find Praetoria one of the nicer parts of CoX design wise.

    It makes no sense.

    But thanks for the reply.

Pathfinder nerfed a lot of the really broken spells, and limited some of the more overpowered 3.5 options (clerics and druids were both tamed some).

One of the things which has impressed me the most about Pathfinder is that while they have added a number of rules expansion books, they have mostly only provided more options without instigating power creep. In 3.5 you tended to be clearly more powerful with the more books you owned. In Pathfinder, you are often presented with options which will actually lower your power but offer interesting twists.

So the real issue with Pathfinder is that while every class gets pretty damned powerful at high levels, the spell casters are capable of being a lot more versatile, and are also capable of world shaking powers (the classic D&D issue). A high level fighter is an amazing death machine as long as you can win the fight by beating it down with a weapon. However is that isn't the solution to your current problem, the fighter is mostly a dud. A wizard or cleric, OTOH, can do spells which are capable of almost anything (at high enough level).

The 'breakdown' if you want to call it that really tends to happen above 15th level. Even then a decent adventure writer and made do (though the mundane classes will in some ways be carted around by the casters), but it take a lot of care, and combats are very numerically intensive.
Yeah, that's why the "DnD Tier system of classes" as people call it, is mostly a ranking on how versatile a character is. In straight ability to kill things even standard DnD doesn't go far out of whack, it's when hitting things isn't the solution that the balance issues arise, and Pathfinder didn't really solve that.

I still play a DnD 3.5 campaign, and we've added some of Pathfinder's better ideas. (I have several of the PF books) It did fix some of DnD's issues, but also left a lot.

I like 4e even less though, so for now we're sticking with 3.5++. It's still better than the 2nd edition ADnD we started with.

But it also depends on how close to the rules you play. In the beginning we really did the xp for each monster and such. Now we just have everyone level at the end of each adventure and not worry about xp.

We're also DM in turn, so each player gets his turn at the controls for one adventure. We usually do about 3-4 adventures a year in this way with one evening a week.

Oh. If you like the SuperHero thing, as you might given that this is CoH, you might want to have a look at Mutants and Masterminds RPG. We've played it for a bit, and it's quite nice. A bit similar to CoH in a lot of aspects.

I can indeed confirm this unfortunately.

Which means I have to choose Hero or Villain now...

Ah. So there is activity in the Rogue Isles. I hardly ever see anyone there. I've got one low level Hero, and things seem to be much more crowded in Paragon City.

If you do the Signature Story Arcs, and you're aligned to either Hero or Villain morality, then you're given the choice to choose an Alignment Merit, two of which can be traded for Luck of the Gambler: Global Recharge/Defense (commonly referred to as 'lotg +rech'). Alternatively, running 10 tip missions for your alignment and then running a morality mission will also grant you one Alignment Merit (this can get a bit confusing, because A Merit also means 'Astral Merit', which is something totally different -- yeah, the game has too many currencies, and the developers have already agreed that's a problem).

For bluesiders (Heroes and Vigilantes), Fort Trident in Atlas Park is where you trade your Alignment Merits. I'm not sure where it is on redside (Villains and Rogues), but I'm sure PW or some other game wiki says.
    Ah. Thanks for the explanation.

I've gone Rogue with all my characters over level 20 until now, as I find that the Villain side has much less activity, and I can then also join some stuff on the Hero side. I understand that that means I can't get the Alignment Merits you talk about? You need to be a Hero or a Villain if I read the Paragon Wiki correctly?
  14. I'm a new player and I just levelled my first Praetorian to level 20. Actually 22, but that doesn't matter.

I now have to choose to become either Hero or Villain.

I find this more difficult than expected. All my other characters are basically Villains or Rogues, as the Super Group me and my friends have started is on the Villain side.

I want to make the choice so I can do the Valentine stuff. I've tried to do it as a Rebel, but it's not working properly.

There are several reasons I'm posting here. I'd like to know how others see/handled this:

    - Apparently I'm supposed to leave Praetoria at level 20, never to return. Is this correct? In character I've made friends there in the Resistance, why should I leave forever? Why is going to First Ward not a problem?

    - I don't feel like either a Hero or a Villain. My character is anti-authoritarian, has been fighting the law, PPD and such her whole life. Becoming a law abiding citizen isn't exactly what she's good at. But going Villain doesn't sound right either, she wants to fight the good fight.

I'm thinking the closest thing would be Vigilante. But am I right that that would exclude me from joining the Villain Group I have with my other characters? Rogue then? Is it just game mechanics and role-playing not being in sync here?

I'm trying to figure out what to do from the info I have of the Paragon Wiki and the forums.

Thanks for any advice or corrections, I might just have misunderstood how some things work.

Well that advice at least did something. Apparently I needed to go to Pocket D again after getting to level 20, to get "attuned" as you say.

Arbiter Hawk (for villains, rogues, possibly loyalists) and Jessica Duncan (heroes, vigilantes, and possibly resistance) will have the Red Widow arc. However you might have to "cross over" to Primal Earth for these as well.
It's not working as expected though. I do get "Tip discovered" messages or something to that effect, but they don't show up in contacts or missions or clues. I suppose they are similar to the Alignment Tips I got on one of my Villains I have over level 20?

I suppose that to continue, I have to choose to become either Hero or Villain. I've tried some missions in First Ward, but without choosing, apparently the Tips thing isn't working properly.
  16. Sounds like fun. Any specific time this is happening or are you going to be doing this from sunrise until well after midnight?

Is this a Heroes only event? Me and my friends are mainly playing Villains and I've already come across a couple of things that we were unable to join because of that.

P.S. If we did a CoH weekend LAN in The Hague, would you be interested? One of my friends just got a really large house there... We already did one a couple of weeks ago in Groningen.
  17. I'm a new player and I'm trying to do this event for the first time.

After figuring out that I need to help a Hero/Villain as well as have a Hero/Villain help me, I got to te Snaptooth mission from DJ Zero and did that 5 times to get all the rewards.

    So far so good.

Now I read on the Paragon wiki that there are also Valentine Tip missions. I understand that you need to be level 20, so I just levelled the character who did the box and cauldron and Snaptooth missions to 22, but still no Valentine Tips. What do I need to to do get those, or is it just random bad luck? I'm playing a Rebel in Praetoria if that makes any difference.

My other characters who did the PocketD/DJ Zero thing are Villains below level 20.

I also read there is something about a Red Widow, but the Paragon Wiki doesn't give a lot of info there. Is this also some kind of mission?

I understand I got roughly a week before this event ends, and I would like to do the tips and the red widow thing as well, but I don't have a clue where to go.

    Thanks.
  18. Sounds epic.

I don't think I'll be level 45 in a month, and certainly not +4/x8, so I wish you good luck.

I'll try to be online to see what this Rikti stuff is about. If I understand you correctly, it will be all over the place, or is it in specific zones?

    Thanks for answering.
  19. Can someone explain to a real newbie what DfB and DiB are?

    Thanks.
  20. It's nice to see another Dutchy online!

Am I correct that this is about 2 things:

    - Apparently there is a thing called a Double XP Weekend. (I see some info on the Paragon Wiki and a message in the Announcement forum)

    - On this weekend Sophia Llriandri and/or Liz Bathory want to organize something special. I gather from the info on Paragon wiki about Lady Grey that this is at least 45+?

Would anybody be so kind to explain things to a newbie like me? Thanks.
  21. @FallenHero: Yeah, I figured that Quick Recovery is better than Stamina. I also bring all my characters to university at level 12 to get the free recipe from the tutorial.

Until yesterday, the thing preventing me from buying recipes was a lack of infamy, but I got some great donations from some generous people. My inf. problems are solved for the forseeable future

All your other advice and links are very useful. CoHTitan is a bit too heavy on the numbers for me though, I'll follow your last line of advice there.

I'm slowly trying to gain knowledge as I gain levels.

Thanks for the advice on Knockup/out/down/back. I'll ignore some of it though, I know enemies flying all over the place is terribly annoying, but the ragdoll mechanics of it is one of the things that makes CoH fun. It just brings a smile to my face. I also use Gale a lot on my Storm summoning Corruptor.

The graphics of this game are mediocre, but seeing your enemies fly through the air after you punch them, is just a lot of fun. A lot of the animations are quite good, even if they're not always efficient, like on Dual Pistols.

Everyone else, also thanks for the advice!

    New Players

Biscuits Deluxe and amazing flame have just made some ZOMG amazing inf. donations.

And Happy Birthday to Biscuits Deluxe!

I will use these donations to further the goals of Dr. Augmented and The Conclave SG, and hopefully be able to do the same some time in the future.

In the mean time I just want to say thank you this way. :-)
  23. Wow, thanks for the nice replies.

I did get some of this info from the Paragon Wiki, but a lot of it is new to me as well.

I will follow FallenHero's advice for the endurance a.s.a.p. on my Fiery/Fiery Brute, my Regeneration Brutes seem to have a solid blue bar most of the time, so I think they need less.

As for enhancements, I mostly use what I get in the loot, and focus my crafting on the level 15 and level 25 recepies as those seem to give the most bang for the buck.

I haven't run out of salvage yet, but I have run out of Infamy, until I discovered some stuff sells for 100k-2M on the Black Market. I'm working on getting richer but want to keep that discussion to other sub-forums.

I make sure I get the Invention:Accuracy on as many powers as I can afford, first the +19.2%, then the +32% at levels 12 and 22. Beyond that it's mostly whatever recepies, SO and DO enhancements I find.

Thanks for the advice on how to slot powers. Until now I had mostly been doing 1x damage, 1x accuracy, 1x recharge reduction. And one more slot if the power has knockback, disorient or some other nifty ability.

That brings me to a question. If a power has Knockback, disorient, stun or -tohit, or something like that, is it advisable to put an enhancement in for it?

I've read about the basic 75% to hit and the purple patch on the wiki, but I had the feeling that my Street Justice character missed a lot more. Is this possible? Or are maybe a lot of mobs in Praetoria harder to hit? I had the feeling it was closer to 50% before I put a lot of accuracy (~+40%) into most powers. Now it feels similar to my other characters.

I just did Snaptooth for the first time, on my StreetJustice/Regeneration character, and it was cool, I felt really powerful, but it was a tough fight. I did it 5 times to get all the rewards and in the end I really got the hang of it.
