I often farm with my SD/SS/Body tank.
I always farm on +4/8, sometimes with bosses too.
With AAO, damage set bonuses and double stacked Rage, I'm at damage cap 90% of the time. Shield Charge with damage cap and procs is a glorious thing.
Main reason I use my tank over my ele/ele or spine/fire scraps, I hate runners. For some reason despite being the only one in the mob, and having damage auras, they love to run. I never have this issue with my tank, or if they do I just taunt for -75% range. -
I was actually going for softcap to melee with only one DA up. I'm not that concerned about perception with tactics already running. The recharge is to keep BU and Energize up as much as possible, katana does have some nice fast recharge. I could take a slot from DW for more accuracy, but I already have 66% bonus with sets and Tactics running. At least that's where I'm coming from, the 18.5% damage bonus is welcome too.
I'd also like to slot SD differently but its hard to get my melee/lethal softcaps back with one DA. Luckily with this build I can mainly focus on damage since Energize/Power Sink covers my endurance, and I have bonuses and powers for acc/recharge.
I don't deny Flashing Steel is good, but not for a primarily ST DPS build. I also agree LR would be useful earlier but I'm not sure what to switch it with since its single slotted and I'd have to leave something else for lvl 49. -

I assumed that was the reason for the longer chain, the duration of DA. I kinda like the idea of getting two GDs in during BU, which would be worth dropping one GC for every time. Too bad I've had no luck getting the recharge down to 20 sec. 25 or 26 is best so far.
-
Quote:I'm working on a Kat/ele build and should only need one DA up at a time. I'm guessing the single application chain is better dps then the double?
So far as I know:
Best DPS double Divine Avalanche chain: DA>GC>GD>GC>DA>GC>SD>GC
Best DPS single Divine Avalanche chain: DA>GC>SD>GC>GD>GC>SD>GC
Best DPS no Divine Avalanche chain: GD>GC>SD>GC
Be sure to put an Achilles' Heel in Gambler's Cut. More information on required recharge and comparative DPS in this thread.
So in that chain, when is it best to throw in BU? Right after DA and the first GC?
Wish there was a way to work in GD more often. Once you are repeating the chain, GD is only used every eighth attack. -
Quote:Oh I know, I was fighting some +3 Romans with my smash/ lethal softcapped fire/wp and was eventually sitting at -62% Def.Heh. I don't think Super Reflexes needs a buff. It's still a VERY good set, particularly at lower influence levels since it is so easy to soft cap. Buff it, and you probably have to buff everything BUT Shield Defense to keep them from getting left behind.
I think I can throw both of us a bone, though. It really won't surprise me if you're right, and the Shields DDR exploit (if it's considered one) eventually goes away, though I'm not holding my breath. If it does, that MIGHT be enough. Shields might still be a better choice for the majority of situations when IO'd out, but Super Reflexes would have a very solid niche fighting defense debuffing foes, of which there are many, which has never been quite so clear as it is on my soft-capped Dark Armor with 0% DDR. Ow!
I'm partial to SR because it was first strong scrap and I still have normal DDR fire/shield. It can suck to lose your main advantage in a fight when -def gets involved. -
Quote:In the words of the immortal Dr. Evil, "Throw me a frickin bone here!"In the game, as it exists today, a top end Dark/Shield build has the same capped DDR that Super Reflexes has. It may change some day, but I don't plan around what maybe, someday, might happen, if the devs are in a bad mood and feel like swinging the nerf bat. We could just as easily suggest that they may someday nerf something that benefits Super Reflexes as they could someday nerf something that benefits Shield Defense. Advantage: Tie.
I don't count the recharge of Super Reflexes as an advantage. Why? Well, recharge is merely a tool. What does it improve on a Dark Melee/Super Reflexes? Damage, and very little else. It makes it easier to get the top DPS chain (heal included) and lets you keep Soul Drain up for a slightly higher percentage of the time. But Dark/Shield can run the top DPS chain too, and destroys DM/SR on DPS, AoE, and pretty much any other measure of damage output. Advantage: Shield Defense.
Then we have scaling resistance. That's great and all, and it adds up, and it's saved my bacon. But Shield Defense has full time resistance. You don't have to wait to get badly hurt, so it's better for the sharp spikes of damage you tend to see in high end play, like AV soloing. You also get the hit point bonus from True Grit, which is functionally equivalent to resistance. Against All Odds also has a damage debuff. Advantage: Shield Defense.
I'm not saying I WANT it to be this way. I WANT DM/SR to have SOMETHING that it can claim to be better at when IO'd to the gills. I do, after all, have a DM/SR IO'd to the gills that I would like to be competitive in SOME way. But I'm just not seeing any advantage to DM/SR over DM/SD when both are IO'd to the gills.
I never thought SR would need a buff but it almost does. I only say that because I'm never a supporter of set debuffs.
I still love the set. -
Quote:I wouldn't say in every way. SR has superior DDR to shields (without exploits that wont last forever), and SR has more recharge potential with quickness, and scaling resistance if your health does get low.Yep, they work very well together. One thing that Super Reflexes wants to be really, really unkillable is a self heal. Dark Melee gives that to you without even needing to stop attacking.
Pros: Very survivable, good single target damage output, almost fire and forget easy
Cons: Poor AoE output, so easy it can be boring, a top end Dark Melee/Shield Defense is better in every way -
Quote:Coming from another DM/SR that solo'd Nemesis like yourself, I know all about the finger confusion. Luckily my build up is ready right as I finish my chain usually. I'm working in some more recharge on my fire/wp's build up and global to help dps.In a long fight, you likely want to hit Build Up as soon as it has recharged. Now, if your recharge just happens to be such that it's up right before you start that chain again, then yes, running in that order will help your DPS a little, mostly because you get a second shot at your two biggest attacks during the Build Up. But my recharge on Build Up has never been that finely tuned. I click it when it's up. Actually, I'm lazier than that. I click it when it rhythmically makes sense, which is totally lame, but it keeps my fingers from getting confused. My fingers confuse easily. They like repetitive motion.
-
Quote:They work naturally together, DM has -to-hit debuff that compliments a defense set. DM also has a self heal that SR is lacking.I was looking to roll a DM/SR scrapper but I was wondering what the pro's and cons are of it. Do they work well together?
I've soloed about 25 different AVs with mine, its very capable. -
Might that help in a pylon run though? As far as doing more burst damage between regen ticks and resulting in a faster time?
-
Sorry to bring up a dead thread but I didn't see this answer,
How much recharge needed for GFS-Cremate-Incinerate-Fire sword combo?
My fire/wp can't fit hasten, and getting incinerate down to 4.09 sec in the in-sc-cr-sc combo would require two hecas I don't wanna buy, with my 42.5% global. I can switch to fire sword and work in a six slotted GFS if that four power combo is easier to hit. -
Depends on the enemy, if its something that doesnt mez and doesn't have high lethal/psi resistance, I'll run it +2/8 without bosses. But that's on a level 50 IO'd out arch/mm, +0/6 or +1/6 might be more suited for an aoe blaster leveling up.

I watched it show pigg files it was downloading. I already was playing with dual pistols before I quit using the laptop and got the new computer. I didn't have this problem with the laptop using my external HDD on it. I'm really still not sure why it didn't work right.
-
I got it working! I basically did what you all said, but I let it just download the 524M of pigg files it wanted. It took about 30 minutes, but oh well it works now.
I appreciate all the help, wish it was faster but as long as its working thats all that matters! -
No go on anything.
Right now I'm letting it download the 524M pigg files because I'm tried of trying.
I tried putting the updater of my COH file on the desktop, running it, letting it create the c:/program files (x86)/city of heroes then stopping the download, copying my files from COH to City of Heroes and running the Coh icon on the desktop after deleting the checksum and it does the same thing.
I tried running the updater and letting it create the folder, then deleting the folder. I then renamed my folder with the files as City of Heroes and running the icon and it tries to download the files again.
What kills me is that I watch the names of the files its downloading and they're all in the c:/program files (x86)/City of Heroes/piggs folder. -
Quote:When you say drag, is that move or copy? Win 7 moves the file unless I hold Ctrl then it copies.First, Copy the contents of City of Heroes to: c:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes. Then dig into that directory and throw out the Coh.checksum.
After that, find cohupdater.exe in that directory and drag it to the desktop. Double click it, and wait for it to do a quick verify. After it's done, throw out the extra files it created on the desktop.
The next time you run CoH, it'll work fine.
There used to be a knowledge base article about this at help.ncsoft.com but I can't find it at the moment.
That's basically what I tried after it does the checksum it starts with the hour plus download.
Here's a video of it working, maybe my issue is copying before running the updater.

Can anyone post a screen shot of their City of Heroes folder contents to I can make sure nothing is messed up on the one I'm copying from?
-
Thanks for the suggestions! Ill be off work in about 6 hours and I'll update with results.
I think I might still have a copy of city of villains on DVD I can try and use if the other suggestion doesn't work for me. -
Quote:So basically I get it to prompt me for install and don't direct it elsewhere, just say yes. When it tries to start downloading everything, stop it. Should I then copy all folders and the large update file over?Try it this way instead..
Run the installer and point it to install in it's default location. Once the download begins, stop the Updater and then copy the contents of your piggs folder into the one it just created. When you re-run the Updater, it should see the files there and run normally.
Then re-run that same first updater and ignore the City of Heroes icon that was created when I ran the updater? -
If it matters, its Win 7 Pro 64 bit
4 gig DDR3 men
Radeon 5770 HD Vid card
AMD Athlon II X4 635 processor -
Get the same issue with the other program files as before. Looking at least an hour download for pigg files. I see the files in the COH folder, why doesn't the updater?
-
At this point I'll try anything. Any reason that would make a difference loading the game in those program files instead?
-
I'm at my wits end here, I got this to work on an external HD plugged into a laptop using Vista before, now I'm doing the same thing and no go on Win 7. I can't figure out why it doesn't see the Pigg files...
