It's WTF. Because we aren't in high school, and it's funny.
-
Quote:Yes, when you pick it up from Trapdoor it'll reflect your origin.I think what happens to the artifact is influenced by your origin. For instance, my magic character recently did the arc and it solidified into a magical symbol. I don't remember any poofing.
At the end, when you obtain your first shard from where the well used to be it evaporates and you become empowered. -
No, he'd be phased so that only people who can phase can do damage to him.
-
Confirmed.
I actually gave a highly detailed bug report about them during beta because there were some fundamental problems with the cows that really shouldn't have made it to release (but they did anyway, remaining in the game until Issue 1).
That bug report is why I got my character in 4 issues of the comic, since they didn't have the Bug Hunter badge yet.
If you demorecord in PP and then play with the demo you can see the cow chamber towards the south end of the inside of the forest. That's also why the map doesn't show the paths under the forest anymore. -
I disagree. That is a fairly unreasonable expectation. What other games out there allow moral choice trees that reflect the nearly limitless range of reasoning that might be behind choosing A over B?
The only time a game has presented moral ambiguity close to that is a game where the choice isn't in some dialog tree. The game simply lets you do something and then presents the consequences. -
Quote:But you can just ignore that text if it doesn't mirror your character's reasoning behind a choice. All that text does is provide a potential thought bubble behind the two choices. It doesn't have to be the reason you've opted for one choice over the other.Sam's dilemma stems from the disparity of "because"s offered him. His because choice was "because slavery is wrong" vs. "because Seers protect people". The game's because choice was "because the Resistance can use them" vs. "because the Loyalists can use them".
The most prominent place this weird justification comes is at the very end of the Power arc, in the solo mission after you have finished Neuron's arc. If you're not familiar with it, the choices amount to "Yes, my Emperor" vs. "LOL, blow it up!" Seriously. (The stated options are actually "shut down the experiment as Emperor Cole has commanded" and "blow up the lab because the Resistance would like to see Neuron's lab blown up".)
Sam has always railed against the "lackey" style many of the game's arcs are written; Praetoria, ultimately, is still just boiling down to "whose lackey are you?" (Some choices less so than others; the Warden and Responsibility end choices (meaning end of Neutropolis, not each individual one) aren't so much lackey choices (well, actually, they're more "do you continue to be a lackey, or think for yourself this time"), but Power and Crusader are.) -
-
I'm not really seeing the conflict between your choices and the choices presented in the game, Sam.
Your preferred choices: free seers or don't free seers
Game choices: free seers or don't free seers -
I've been on the LRSF half a dozen times and I had no idea there was a longbow in that group! Maybe it's random.

Quote:Well, of course. I was simply pointing out that in-game indication is that is poofs, and that you feel a swell of power inside yourself afterward. The OP left me with the impression that you held on to the artifact according to the game, but the game doesn't say that at all. Indeed, it implies the opposite. As to the "poof", the text says that it "evaporates into thin air". While that means it's no longer physically present at the time, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's gone for good; it depends on how you choose to roleplay it.
You can roleplay all kinds of things. Not trying to stop you. I am simply happy that there wasn't a flaw in my character because I missed an important part of the Incarnate Arc. I thought I was going to need to brainstorm some sort of totem for future and past incarnate characters I have or will have.
I think my misunderstanding stems the title of the thread, because reviewing the OP it's really about an item of power of some kind and not incarnate items. Black Scorpion and Liberty are mentioned but there's no indication either one is on the way to being an Incarnate anywhere. -
I just reviewed the story arc and the artifact you retrieve from Trapdoor evaporates in a poof when you get your first incarnate shard, so there isn't really any reason to come up with an incarnate artifact!
-
I dunno, a bottle of blue hair color?
I have no idea what an appropriate incarnate item would be for Wes The Mess. He isn't techy at all nor is he magical. He's just an invulnerable and super strong mutant that has a flair for brightly colored clothing and hair. Even events in his backstory are pretty "totem free." -
We've already got an idea of how high it goes because of what happens in the very first mission in the arc, so I think you're correct. We're fighting even-level AVs and Monsters and they still con yellow. The point of that mission is to show you what you have to look forward to so ff we were going to get a level shift with every slot then we'd be fighting things that were conning green and blue.

DUring GR's release it was possible to be defeated and then respawn outside of the tutorial area before you made a faction choice. This meant you didn't get your faction contact (Marchand/other guy) and had to manually discover new contacts.
Lloyd was one of the helpful folks who assisted me, eventually, and even took my frustration at having to re-explain my situation in stride. I think I had to explain it 3 times to 2 different people, and despite my best efforts at covering all the "Troubleshooting 101" early on I still was getting the treatment.
My most memorable experience is still getting Gilgamesh to fix a problem for me. Door mission spawned with no door. I got excited and told my nearby friends that it was cool speaking to a Police Drone but no one could see him except me.
Has anyone seen Gilgamesh lately or is he one of the red names that are no longer with us anymore? -
He goes beyond someone who does Skype or other voice chat while playing, or preferring those communication methods over chat. I've never met anyone that closes their chat tab completely.

Not to be confused with the wikia version! Don't go there!

Bad Influence, you want to kill all women with big breasts.
Confirm/Deny
The reason threads end up on the subject of GG (she doesn't really become the focus as you imagine she does, but we'll pretend for this discussion) so often is because she posts in every single thread and is a member of this community. As an active member of the community, the community becomes aware of her desires for future additions to the game. So when flowing hair comes up, some members of the community will immediately know GG is going to participate because that's something she posts about all the ******* time.
This thread wasn't about GG's breasts at all until you brought them up, by the way.
This isn't a "Missy Kitty" situation where the situation was so creepy and obvious, either. THAT got really annoying. -

Ms. Liberty
Zone: Atlas Park
Secret Identity: Jessica Duncan
Origin: Natural
Archetype: Scrapper
Primary Powers: Martial Arts, Invulnerability
Background: Jessica is the granddaughter of the original Miss Liberty from the Golden Age. She has taken up the mantle to fight for freedom, in this specific case to free Paragon City from its infestation of villains. She has heightened strength and endurance as well as the power of the Liberty Belt, which was passed on to her by her grandmother.
Early in her career Ms. Liberty worked extensively with Statesman, but recently seems to be spending more time working on making certain that new heroes in Paragon City have the information they need, as well as working on the Freedom Corps. It is clear that she is determined to do her energetic best to make the Freedom Corps the premiere hero assistance group in Paragon City someday.Quote:Valkyrie
Zone: Steel Canyon
Secret Identity: Valerie Kellum
Origin: Technology
Archetype: Scrapper
Primary Powers: Spear, Regeneration
Background: Valerie Kellum was an up-and-coming archeologist exploring Scandinavia when she discovered what she first took for an ancient spear. A more careful examination led to the realization that the spear had a technological component. She traveled around Europe looking for ideas about its origin and ended up in a local Crey facility. When a Crey security team tried to take the weapon from her it activated and injected Valerie with advanced nanites that transformed her into Valkyrie, an extraordinary warrior with a completely different personality. She broke free and traveled to Paragon City where Positron is helping her come to terms with her new identity.Quote:Minx
Zone: Skyway City
Secret Identity: Katherine Stevens
Origin: Science
Archetype: Scrapper
Primary Powers: Claws, Super Reflexes
Background: Katherine Stevens was a young girl in the wrong place at the wrong time. While attending Paragon City University, she volunteered for a Crey research project. When the Crey research scientists realized that she had no family and few friends, they decided to try some of their more dangerous procedures on her. A volatile serum transformed Katherine and gave her some feline features and characteristics. Crey considered the result a failure because Katherine could not be controlled. She managed to break free of her captors, scarring the face of one of Crey's top scientists horribly with her claws.
Adopting the Minx identity, Katherine lived on the streets or Paragon City for a time. She got involved in petty crimes to keep herself alive. Synapse discovered her there and helped her develop control of her heightened reflexes and her animalistic nature. She is still undisciplined and prone to overconfidence, but is fiercely loyal to Synapse and grateful for the second chance he has given her.Quote:Malaise
Zone: Independence Port
Secret Identity: Jean-Pierre Lourdin
Origin: Mutant
Archetype: Controller
Primary Powers: Illusion Control, Kinetics
Background: Jean-Pierre Lourdin was not always a hero. He began his career as a villain in Europe, using the twisted images in his mind to commit robberies. With INTERPOL hot on his trail he landed in Paragon City, where his broken thoughts were detected by Sister Psyche. She confronted him and after an intense battle was able to subdue him.
She spent months healing the damage to his mind and has taught him more productive uses of his abilities. Sister Psyche vouched for him with the authorities and he has been allowed to help with the current crisis in Paragon City. Many are keeping a watchful eye on Malaise, however, for signs of his madness returning.Quote:Luminary
Zone: Talos Island
Secret Identity: None
Origin: Technology
Archetype: Defender
Primary Powers: Radiation Emission, Radiation Blast
Background: The original Luminary is Kit Rafter. He retired from the Freedom Phalanx in 1995 to become the spokesperson for Hero Corps. At his wedding, Positron presented Kit and his new wife Jeanette with the ultimate wedding present: a new android modeled after Jeanette with powers similar to Kit's. This next-generation heroine was the new Luminary, carrying on Kit's fine tradition under the watchful eye of Bastion. Her systems were all more advanced than Bastion's, making her the state of the art in android technology.
The new Luminary has recently shown signs of developing a strong personality. It has caused Positron some concern that it seems similar to Jeanette's. He has performed many tests on her but has not determined the cause.Quote:Swan
Zone: Brickstown
Secret Identity: Lena Elliot
Origin: Magic
Archetype: Defender
Primary Powers: Force Field, Psychic Blast
Background: Lena Elliot was touched by magic from the moment she was born on the Vernal Equinox. Her life seemed almost charmed; she grew up happy, did well in school and loved her parents very much. Everything she tried she seemed to succeed at. There was a reason for her good fortune. Both her parents were powerful mystics, and performed a ceremony to bless Lena's birth.
Shortly after her 21st birthday the Elliot's luck ran out. They got caught in the middle of a battle between the Circle of Thorns and the 5th Column. The groups were seeking a pair of rings that had been in the Elliot family for generations. Lena's powers manifested and she instinctively threw a protective shield up around herself and her parents. Manticore had been following the 5th Column group and came to the Elliot's aid. The battle was going poorly when Lena lashed out with her psychic abilities, stunning many of the villains. Manticore mopped up the rest, but not before the 5th Column managed to escape with Lena's parents.
Manticore offered Lena the chance to fight at his side and she jumped at the opportunity. As Swan, she aids him in his relentless war against the 5th Column, in the hopes that one day she will find her parents alive.Quote:Infernal
Zone: Founder's Falls
Secret Identity: K'Varr D'Shall
Origin: Magic
Archetype: Tanker
Primary Powers: Fiery Aura, Battle Axe
Background: K'Varr D'Shall was the most skilled demon binder in the Order of the Crimson Lotus, on an alternate Earth. His order bound demons into their weapons and armor, in order to keep Infernal Earth from being overrun by them. They were maintaining and uneasy peace until K'Varr's best friend T'Keron grew jealous of his comrade's power and skill. T'Keron attempted to bind Valmaz, Lord of Demons, but lost control of the ceremony. K'Varr arrived to help his friend, but it was too late. K'Varr, T'Keron, and Valmaz were all drawn through a dimensional rip caused by the binding ceremony onto primal Earth, our Earth. T'Keron and the Demon Lord were bound together by the potent mystic forces.
The ways of our world are strange to K'Varr but Numina is assisting him in becoming acclimated and beginning his search for the unholy fusion of T'Keron and Valmaz.

Quote:No re-writing history for you!Originally Posted by PoisonPenI'm a new player here at CoX, although I've been MUDing since the early 80s. It also marks the first time I've paid money to play an MMO. As a huge comic book fan who started reading back when they were still 20 cents each, I was really excited about playing CoX. Imagine my disappointment, then, in what I've experienced.
The first disappointment is that the game feels like a ghost town. I will see a handful of people occasionally, but what few people are around all tend to be level 50s -- and this brings me to the part which annoys me most. The vast majority of the level 50s I've encountered seem to treat this game as just another kill-the-monster, get-the-treasure MMO where the idea is to min/max your power potential. They create stupid or boring names (some of them don't even bother to think of superhero names, they use what appears to be a name chosen randomly from a phone book), and can't be bothered to create even the most basic background. Reading through the various fora here, people seem to be interested solely in obsessing over "toons" and "shards" and "IO builds" and which "AV" slots out best and other arcane trivia. You could replace the supervillains with orcs or Imperial stormtroopers and I doubt they would even notice the difference -- or care if they did.
I tried three or four different servers, just to make sure it wasn't a local phenomenon, and I've experienced the same thing on each one. I'm not a fanatical roleplayer, but I'm frankly baffled that on a game which is supposed to be about comic books, no one seems to have any interest in comic books. It's not helped that the costume creation system appears to be geared toward awful 90s "Dark Age" comics; you can get 200 different types of ugly spiky things for your shoulders, but try getting tassles on your cape or a swashbuckling tabard or animal heads other than "snarling death monster" -- Mr. Talky Tawny is not welcome here.
The final straw for me may have been the exchange I had last night with a "50" where I sent hir a message that sie had a few typos in hir background, and helpfully provided the corrections. Sie replied that if sie wanted someone to edit hir background text sie would ask over Global, and that I was now welcomed to (and I quote) "iggy." I was taken aback by the sheer sour rudeness, and it ruined all my sense of enjoyment for the evening.
This is only my second month playing, but I'm already questioning whether I want to continue. -

Quote:Boobs.I made one for Year 5, I made one for Year 6. Now we're up to the 7th anniversary of COH... and I'm at a loss. I contacted our esteemed overlord War Witch to ask her if there was something in particular she'd like to see as the theme, and her preferences were:
First: people coming together as a united front, supporting each other, and taking on much larger foes...
Second: the "lighter side of CITY OF HEROES"... in other words, humour.
But I'm STILL at a loss!
I could probably do CoVideoHell as the Year 7 video, for sheer humour and snark, but I don't know... (although a lot of folks who follow me on Twitter said they'd like to see humour for Year 7 as well.)
The playerbase was a great help for Year 5's vid because so many folks contributed to my 'Backstory' thread. So I'm turning to you guys again.
Following either of WW's suggestions, what would you like to see in a 7th Anniversary Video for COH?
(And yes, I'm sure that Black Pebble and the Creative Services team are going to do their own vid, too, and with their recent raising of the bar, I doubt I'll match it... but it's tradition.)

... yes...?
What I am saying is, if IDF is so easy to wipe out with modern tech what makes the Rikti different? They aren't bullet proof, either.
If you want to drag the real world into this and use it to suggest that the IDF is not a threat then you have to apply the same logic to other world threats in game. And then you see that posting links to military tech is pointless because applying real world logic only reveals that we're not playing a game set in the real world and instead a world that has its own internal logic. In that internal logic, the IDF most certainly would be a real threat.
