  1. Thanks for that FireFlight track, CD. I rather liked that one.

And Tyger... you soppy so and so.

(Not that Dan isn't a soppy so-and-so too.)

Very true, however, consider the following.

Perhaps an SG leader designs a costume with a dress for women, and a suit of some description for men (and huge). That's two totally different component sets, with the theme likely linked around pattern and colour scheme.

That would be fairly complex to do via an interface, and trivial to do via a list of written components.

What might actually be simpler and of more generic use, would be the ability to save partial costume files, and to merge those into an existing slot.

    Edit to correct missing 'e'

Joking aside, pvp in many other mmorpgs has no real movement to it I can see.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, given that facing is unimportant in CoX, movement is actually somewhat less of a factor than in some (many) other games. In WoW, for example, learning to run around someone, keeping their back to you, while still facing them gives you some considerable advantage.

The combat mechanics of CoX are actually very simplistic, and the bunny hopping is generally just a frustration for those trying to hit someone like that. Especially if they, in turn, can hit you no matter what you do since they have ranged attacks.

    [ QUOTE ]
I was pointing out ( as someone had briefly mentioned earlier ) that the epics allow for much better ranged attacks than anything spines has inherently.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Considering recharge times, I think that's wrong, but it's a matter of opinion.
  4. Meh, I said this in game, but I hate it when stories get no replies: Good story, nicely written.
  5. Brutes are probably closer to Scrappers than Tanks. I like playing Scrappers, but then, I like soloing.

By the way, don't be too alarmed about taking ages to get into heroing. It's taken me this long to find a villain I like playing.
  6. The Halloween even was too long. The Christmas one is, at least, ignorable if you are no longer interested. I'm spreading the load a bit, simply because there is three weeks to do things in.
  7. I so shouldn't get involved, but...

The "bunnyhopping" you are complaining about is called movement. It's what used to make pvp in CoX so much fun.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Fun for who, exactly?

    [ QUOTE ]
    1 ranged attack with a short range ( 40ft )
1 cone attack with a very short range (30ft)
1 pbaoe with an even shorter range ( 15ft, basically melee range )

No AOE's in that set that I can see

    [/ QUOTE ]

Pedants rule, or to be more exact, protray some of the characteristics normally associated with royalty.

It's way easier to hit someone when you need to get within 30 ft than when you need to get within 5 (or even 7). Please don't say otherwise. Your attempt to make your opponent look stupid is just making you look like you don't have an argument, currently.

That's on the specific point, not on thegeneral argument. Do, please, continue.

    ok just a tought

*sigh* Look... it'd need new animations. The actual powers don't entirely match axe use. It's viable, but not great.

For hammers/clubs, the DB animations don't work at all.
  9. Ravenswing

    No xp option

You get no xp. You get no extra Inf/Prs. You do burn through Rest XP at the normal rate.

Close with an axe? What kind of axe are we talking about here? 'cos I know what kind of axe we'd be talking about in this game, and close wouldn't be a good idea.

    Ok...

You either need a variation mechanism to handle male/female/huge models, or you need to massively subset the available choices since not every body type gets the same clothing pieces.

The more you look at this, the more complex it gets, or the less desireable it gets.

Someone's always faster. It's like high kicks in martial arts. I (and I am not a good martial artist) could catch people's legs, and then they're a bit stuck. Here, all you need do is hook the axe head. They've over-extended to thrust like that, they're off balance and stuffed.

Only if you want to lose your axe.

I did mention in the second half my post that you would have to have a different set for hammers, but axes could be added as part of the weapon customisation to dual blades.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope. At least two of the DB moves involve thrusts. You don't thrust with axes. Well, you can, but it doesn't generally get you very far.

The set animations were designed for swords, not axes, and definately not blunt weapons.

And TheMESS has pointed out why GrinningSpade's system doesn't, in practice, work.

    /unsigned.

I already said this. Either you make it a fixed costume slot, defined by the SG leader (which is just about impossible, by the way), or you are just giving people with an SG (read 'everyone') a free costume slot. Trying to produce a user interface which could handle 'rules' on what people are allowed to change and how would be far too much work for something like this.

Again: you are trying to mechanise something which is best handled by humans.
  17. You didn't look very hard.

I think it's in the known issues list.

I might be wrong, but it's not power customisation, its weapon customisation isn't it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope, because you don't use hammers the way you use blades, and hammers/clubs/etc do Smashing damage, not Lethal.

There would also be a tendency to have different combo moves from something like hammers than from blades. It's a different power set, not any form of customisation.
  19. Enjoy the weather while you can, folks, things are about to get snowy. Today's mix of sun and clouds with a high of 4C will shift into a cold, but clear night with a low of -4C.

Tomorrow we're expected up to four inches of snow and sub-zero temperatures all day.
  20. Late night, sleepless musing. While I could do this with War Crow and Jason Caine, both magicians, the only character I've considered doing it with, and have partially implemented, is Nitoichi.

Ni is a DB/WP Scrapper, and also a Brute for when she's 'holidaying' in the Isles. She could also make an AR/Dev Blaster (specialising in long range hits and Stealth), and I was just lying awake considering an MM (thugs, probably) with whatever the dual-pistols secondary is.

One of those things I may consider if I add more slots. And if any good names are available.
  21. No, actually, thinking about it, you're right. It is mostly certain kinds of RPer who do it. Yes.
  22. <QR>

Is it just me, or is the advanced run easier, if longer?
  23. [ QUOTE ]
    It's probably an RP thing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, it really isn't. Hasn't got anything to do with RP.
  24. I managed 56 seconds on the 'advanced' track. I only mention this here so if anyone asks I'll remember what the number was.
