Not that I terribly like Forum RP (believe I said so), but the general mechanism I employ to involve the forums in server RP is to have asynchronous events happen on the forum, and then hold in-game events where the action is happening at a faster pace.

e.g.

I like running fairly heavy 'detective' plots. So, there may be events posted to the forum which garner attention and interested parties. A bit of forum RP happens as people post their reactions to (for example) a mysterious murder.

There may then be an in-game event where the interested parties meet up and discuss things face-to-face. I'll often run the event via one of my characters, so it's a chance to pass on information more directly and interactvely.

Investigation takes place, often Internet research, laboratory work, street bashing. Not exactly exciting in-game, but works fine in a Forum environment. This is mixed in with in-game events as something immediate comes up and our heroes raid a Troll hangout or whatever. Finally, there will usually be an in-game showdown where the villain is exposed and generally shown the error of his murderous ways.


One long plot, but the events are split between forum and game as appropriate for the kind of event. No copying.

That is a little odd, though I don't use Firefox. IE seems to be happy enough. Haven't tried Chrome.

This is a long one, over 15000 words, so rather than trying to squish it into a forum post, I decided to render it as a PDF you guys can download. I hope this link works.

As a side issue, the contents may not rate as entirely 'PG-13.' There are references to both sex and nudity, though nothing terribly descriptive, and some fairly nasty violence. So rather than post something directly I could get into trouble for, you have to jump through hoops to read the bad words. (I get confused by what constitutes PG-13 in the US, so I'm not going to risk it.)

Anyway, it took 6 months to write, I hope you like it.

Anyway, on a personal note, I hate Forum-based RP. I've engaged in it on the old EU servers only when it was something really drastically important to a character of mine, and even then it usually failed miserably. It's too slow, and highly non-interactive. Hence, I don't mind what you do, but I'd have to say that some simple labels and a basic knowledge of the difference in cultures is about all that's required.

Anyone from round here going out there for that do?

Bad choice. Fire can burn pretty much any colour. Didn't you do flame tests for detecting metals in chemistry? And ice could refract any colour as well. Red dark powers does seem a bit odd, but the idea is to vary the roleplay aspect.

Now, Khelds do have a specific roleplay background...

And there's the BOTH reason: if you aren't playing a kheldian 'as designed' then you aren't playing a kheldian. You should, therefore, not be doing the kheldian arcs, but those are hard-wired into the kheldian ATs.

After some deliberation, I decided that Microsoft can go jump down a hole for a while. I had enough pain moving to my new PC without having to do it again for Windows 7.

Hasn't anyone ever head of DVDs, by the way? You can record on them these days, including the installer for a browser. It's amazing how much you can stuff on a DVD... though it's also never actually enough.

Of course... there is the possibility that they're similar because I was aiming to have them look something like their in-game counterparts and, well, there aren't that many faces in CoX. :s
