  1. I'm looking for ideas for my next blaster. My fire/fire is 23 and I'm loving him but I'm wanting to start another one on a different server (different friends on different servers >.
All opinions are welcome, but let me say that I love fire/fire as it seems to suit my play style very well... damage mitigation in the form of killing them before they kill you.
  2. Thanks again all for the responses. The fire blaster flow chart is now the wallpaper on my desktop

I do have another question that I'm rather embarassed to ask. Last night I logged in and tried to join a global chat channel. I couldn't figure out how to do it. I went to wiki which explains how to set one up and send but I saw nothing on how to join one. I'm sure it's not that complicated but what am I missing?
  3. Still getting comfortable with everything in the game and just started screwing around with my difficulty settings last night and I'm curious as to what other blasters do regarding this in terms of solo play (truth be told I don't know if it affects you when you're on a team).

I figured to avoid getting decimated I started out by just making myself equivalent to two heroes and left the mobs at default (which if memory serves is equal to your lvl). I only died once and that was really more because of my own stupidity (ran in without stocking up on inspirations). I was thinking about possibly making my toon equal to 3 or maybe even 4 heroes but lowering the lvl of the mobs by one, thinking that at that point I would just mow through everything.

I'm not necessarily looking to increase xp gain as much as possible (however tips on that aren't going to hurt), I just get some sick pleasure out of killing everything I see lol... I'm the guy flying around that if I see a large group of mobs that are far below my lvl I will throw a fireball at them just to see if I can wipe the whole group with just that

    Thank you! Will do
  5. I think offering rewards regardless of how "lame" they may be is awesome and I'm not going to complain. However being faily new I have a question regarding them and don't want to make a new thread for it...

How do they count the months? Are they consecutive or is it 60 (or however many) total? Like if I played for a couple months quit and came back would those first two count towards that total?

Sadly, as funny as it is this is fairly accurate.

Wow, major OT ramble. But good to have you here, man.
My "main" is a fire/fire blaster Ultimately I'd like to have at least one of each AT but predict that at least half of the toons I end up with will be blasters of some sort lol

    Thank you!
  8. Thanks Soulwind, I'll have to try that out... I've actually been binding all my powers to my numpad for my blaster which means I'll have to rethink everything for a defender or just get used to different keybindings.

Edit: DER I can always use ALT and CTRL
  9. Rather than muddying up the forums anymore with another thread, I do have another question.

Regarding the difficulty lvl change that came with I16 how does it work? For example if I want to solo my missions as if I'm in a duo does it increase the lvl of the mobs the number of them or both? Is it safe to assume then also that it increases the xp as well?
  10. Thank all of you very much! The one thing about this game that I find most impressive has nothing to do with the game but the community. I'm sure the game has it's share but I have yet to see the random argument over one of the chat channels or someone getting into a flame war on the forums. In fact the one "argument" I've seen over the forums was one of the most civil disagreements I've ever read/heard.
  11. For any that are already saying TLDR: New guy... still pretty unfamiliar with a good portion of the game... any tips are helpful

That could likely be seen as stupid. I've played for collectively three months and I still feel like there are quite a few things I'm not really comfortable with for whatever reason.

I played WoW for 4 years or so but before anyone decides to point it out, I do understand that this is an entirely different game which is one of the reasons I've come to love it. I really wish I'd given the game more of a chance whenever I first tried it but I had already been sucked into WoW. Anyway, there are a few things I'm still trying to adjust to.

First, I'm working on a defender and before I join a team and get us killed I want to make sure I have a good handle on things. One of the things I got accustomed to in WoW were mouseover macros. Basically all of my healing or support spells were set up to where I could move my cursor over the person I wanted to buff/heal hit the button and the spell would cast allowing me to keep my main target as whatever we were killing at the time. If this is not possible can anyone suggest a viable alternative?

Secondly, as far as enhancements, outside of the basic "woohoo they boost my stuffs!" I'm not sure I understand all of the mechanics around them. Any information here is going to be more than I already have. I've tried to read up on single origin etc... but honestly I feel like it's way over my head.

Lastly, I've finally come to the realization that this game is not a rush to the level cap to get to endgame and while I do think it's awesome this does raise two other questions for me. What does endgame consist of? I'm not asking if it's fun, I'm sure most think it is or the game wouldn't be successful. Also, while again I realize it's not a rush to the lvl cap I've seen people talking about farming toons...is there an advantage to taking a toon to 50 ASAP for that purpose? If so what is everyone's opinion on the best AT/build for it?

Ok... I didn't plan on this being as long as it is. If you've read all this, thank you!
  12. Thanks to all who responded! I'm still undecided but definitely have a few ideas now.

From the partner perspective I played with my blaster last night with my emp/??? keeping me alive... very impressive since I tend to charge in with wreckless abandon trying to kill everything as quickly as possible lol.

In terms of playing a defender the one thing that I'm wondering about is targetting. Since defenders seem to be much more complicated than anything else I've played with thus far, how do you guys keep track of what's going on and change targets quickly enough to keep everyone alive or am I thinking too much into it?
  13. Let me preface this by saying that my highest toons are in their early 20s and both are fire/fire blasters...so my experience is very limitted.

A friend of mine is playing an emp/elec(I think) defender and I'm curious as to the best partner if we're just duoing missions. My blaster seems to do ok just wondering if there's another arch that would be good/better.

Also, like most...I love playing around with new characters and would eventually like to make a defender and I'm curious as to people's thoughts on which is the easiest to play for someone new to healing of any kind.
  14. Thanks for the replies guys...I'll have to look into that
  15. Hi all,

I recently made a blaster on this server and just hit 21 yesterday with him. I only came to this server as I have a friend on it but they are rarely on anymore and I've noticed that there seems to be very little activity. Is this normal for Victory?

This ^ EmporerSteele or anyone else arguing the same point obviously doesn't fully understanding theorycrafting when it comes to DPS or simple averages (stay in school kids)...and frankly I kinda hope it stays that way.

This type of thread is one of the things that completely ruined WoW for me...people would read up on top DPS builds and rotations and you were expected to follow them to the letter. Don't let CoH turn into that. The large number of options we have in this game is one of the things that makes it so awesome...not only do not all blasters look different they do not all have the same build. Most classes in WoW were absolutely expected to be playing a specific build if they wanted invites to raids etc. They also had to follow a set rotation in terms of abilities but that is slightly more understandable as those rotations were part of the overall design.

Anyway, just my $0.02...I just hate to see all this thought going into something that's supposed to be fun...it IS still a game.

Sorry to hijack the thread...but I saw this and just had to comment that I completely agree. I played FFXI and WoW for several years each and both had enough people with poor attitudes that you were bound to have at least a few days here or there that made the game not fun because of that. I also played Aion for a month after release and found the same thing to be true there. I've only been playing CoH for collectively 2 months...really only 1 considering how little I played the first time then took a loooong break and aside from being one of the most fun games ever the community is simply amazing and I have yet to run into a player that made me look for an "ignore" option. In fact I don't even know if the game has one lol...

Again...sorry about the hijack...just had to comment.
  18. Thanks J...that's pretty much what I was looking for...now to come up with a concept
  19. Hi all!

I'm going to be starting a new blaster and I'm curious as to what if any secondary powers are not viable with fire as a primary or which ones may be considered "ideal"...my current is fire/fire and I'm not opposed to doing that again as I'm only making new toon for new server that rl friend is on, I know they offer paid server transfers but the current one is only 21 so I didn't see the point in paying when getting to that lvl took very little time.
