  1. I'm in the habit of quipping back at the NPCs - especially if I'm rolling around with a team.
  2. I don't suppose there's a chance we can get the third screenshot in wallpaper detail?
  3. You get an alignment mission at the end of every arc chain in the zone {power/responsibility/crusader/warden}. Here's a protip - you can actually switch alignments as many times as you want. In each alignment mission, you choose your alignment before the mission ends. Thus, you can switch sides, and then simply leave the mission without completing it, letting you run it again, with the choice available, later.

Mother and her Seers constantly keep watch to ensure our safety should one such self-seeking individual wish to cause us harm. They are not restrictive or brainwashing; rather, theirs is a responsibility to ensure the well-being of all of Praetoria.

Our great Emperor Cole is no murderer or propagandist. His just acts in the past have served only to strike down those who would cause us destruction; the Hamidon and its abominations among them. In that same way, he is preparing to retaliate against the unprovoked attacks from Primal Earth, and he will not cease until the threat is put to rest.

    All hail Emperor Cole!
I'm afraid, sir, that your claim that you seek to further the betterment of Praetorian populace does not paint you in a favorable light - namely, that of either a liar, or an incompetent. We agree, I'm sure, that Praetoria's suppression of freedom of expression or thought is essential for its survival, and yet we must disagree on what that survival means.

Its necessity for the survival of every society is pure fabrication. The world itself has been brought to the point of a struggle for survival, that is indisputable, yet this collapse of society was brought on not by its own behavior, but because of the rise of the monstrosity that is the Hamidon. In short, sir, your arguments does not hold.

"When a man decides that his personal needs or desires outweigh those of his neighbors, he is heading down a dangerous path of mistakes and misguided effort." I could not agree more. And yet, this is what we see, a principle, a desire brought to fruition before us, in every waking moment. A man's need for absolute power over others. A man's desire for perpetual glorification, in thought, deed and action. What would happen, do you think, if one thought that Emperor Marcus Cole was less than a perfect leader? What would happen to this man, do you think, were he to voice his opinion? Not in public, not shouting it from the rooftops, but merely overheard by someone who does not care for such sentiment? Would this man, no terrorist or agitator he, without criminal intent, be allowed to continue holding such sentiment? Or would he be made to disappear, for daring to question? And if so, is failure of unwavering adoration toward those who demand it not an everlasting hallmark or tyranny?

The Seers are here to protect us. How true indeed, for we need protecting from the chaos they themselves foster. For it is their suffocation of thought that gives rise to the very destructive forces that threaten the innocent the Seers hold under their thumb. For without the crime of defiant thought, what need would there be for defiance? And thus Mother ensures that that no self-seeking individual may wound Praetoria - no individual without the wherewithal to keep that wound open for as long as it serves them.

Indeed, Cole is no murderer. No evidence remains to point to the blood on the Emperor's hands. No government remains to offer its leadership in his stead. Besides, the time to do so is long since past, with so many to do so on his behalf. The police, above the law themselves, with no need for trial or evidence. Mother Mayhem, like a butcher culling the prime specimens of her herd. And it takes but a short trip underground to see the fruits of the Praetors' labors, though they may be the last thing you will see.

All hail Emperor Cole. And all must hail him. Or perish.

Ahh, okay, thanks. Pity both parts of the arc don't stretch across the Lv15-24 range.
  6. Is it possible? Temblor gives me the "it's better to know, I guess" line, Doc Delilah refers me to Penny Yin, who in turn just says they're closed. I'm Lv20, so the second half of the arc should be available. Or am I SOL?

From a price standpoint, that might be your best option, unless the money for this upgrade is available now, but might not be in a month or so.
Well, if I can expect a significant price drop in the near future, I could {hardware willing} wait another month or two for a better deal. If anything gives up the ghost, I can do without for a day or two it would take me to get an adequate replacement. What channels could I watch to see when nVidia releases new GPUs, though?

It's a self-built tower, with plenty of space inside currently. The 500W PSU should also be able to handle any additional power requirements a replacement card might incur. Not sure what you mean by a double wide bracket, though.

Well, simple once you memorize the color coding. Having a cheat sheet would be nice.
  11. People colored orange are of the opposite alignment to you. It's simple enough to tell from there.
  12. I think you're missing OP's point - the first two are talking in the NPC channel {the blue color}. The third is in Local {white}.
  13. I've got the Microsoft Sidewinder X5, personally. The last mouse I had, an Intellimouse Explorer, bought way back when nobody was sure if this fancy new "universal serial bus" thing would stick or not, and only died about a year or so ago {alas, poor left mouse button}. Not sure how long the new mouse will last, but definitely good experiences with reliability.

Overall, I'm not looking for anything top-of-the-line, but rather something that'll last me a couple of years, both in terms of keeping up with the potential of extra shiney, as well as simply working that long {as my faithful 8600 might be about to croak}.

From what I can tell, ATI always had a slight lead over nVidia in the bang-per-buck arena, but on the two occasions where I bought one, I had constant issues with driver support, and the fact that I keep seeing "issues with Catalyst {insert version here}" do little to reassure me. So I'm willing to spend a little more to avoid headaches later on.

    Anyway, for the specifics... I've checked out the two cards you've recommended, and these are my cheapest options {tax included}

Palit GT240 SUPER+/1GB; GT240 SUPER+/1GB, NVIDIA GeForce, GT240, PCIe x16, 1024 MB, DDR3, 128-bit, Radni takt GPU 550 MHz, Takt memorije 1580 MHz, DVI-I, HDTV da, 1x D-sub, HDMI, 2560x1600 - Cheapest of the lot with around $115, but I don't know how well it would fare in the long term.

VC GAINWARD PCI Express 2.0 x16 nVidia GeForce GTS 250 with CUDA Green Edition GDDR3 512MB/256bit, 700MHz(core)/1000MHz(mem), HDTV+HDCP, VGA, DVI, HDMI, VGA Cooler (Double Slot) - around $133, which is more or less acceptable. There's a 1GB version available, but that ups the price to around $170 - how big a performance effect would it have?

    Palit GTS450/1GB; GTS450/1GB, NVIDIA GeForce, GTS450, PCIe x16, 1024 MB, DDR5, 128-bit, Clockspeed GPU 783 MHz, Memory clockspeed 3608 MHz, DVI-I, HDTV da, 1x D-sub, HDMI, 2560x1600
    - around $192. A bit pricey, but I might be persuaded if it's a better investment in the long term. However, since you mentioned it's less of a gaming card and more of a "graphics" card, probably not.

Which of these would you say would give the best performance compared to the price? I could shell out more cash if needed, but I'm prioritizing around getting my money's worth.
  15. I've had this exact problem - my {accidental} workaround was to run it through the Steam overlay.

Hell if I know why it works, though.
  16. 1} I'm pretty sure those are baked into the maps themselves. It would take an overhaul of the engine to support it.

2} How would those work? Temp powers available only inside the mission? If so, what are the downsides? If they're for keeps, what's to stop farming them?
  17. No, nothing's going away. I just thought to share that Virtue LFG Alpha broke 2400 members the other day, which means that, assuming the member cap of 2500 members still persists, it will soon close itself to new members.

What astounded me, though, was that in my attempt to flush out inactive members by setting the chan_timeout duration to just thirty days, the channel did not boot a single member. That means that out of the almost two and a half thousand players in the channel, each and every one of them has been active in the game in the past month. No chaff, no dead weight, no inactive accounts, just an active, friendly and bustling community of puggers.

Needless to say, I'm more than a little proud. Thus, I'd like to publicly thank everyone who helped make Virtue LFG what it is today - the indisputably biggest teaming channel on Virtue, and possibly even in the entirety of City of Heroes.
  18. A quick question; I'm planning to replace my aging GeForce8600. Thus, what would be a decent card to pick up for someone with a limited budget? No ATI, though - burnt myself there once too many.
