I do believe that the website is still up (I actually have it favorited on my main computer), but given that the actual game has changed so much since that time, it's pretty outdated.
  2. Got another important one to share today.

Try not to have any outside distractions during a roleplay session. By this, I'm not meaning within the game, but doing anything else off computer at the same time. If you absolutely need to attend to something important, mention that you're going AFK for a bit, you can easily pick up where you left off.

This is especially true if you're doing a roleplay interview to get into a supergroup: I assure you that it's hard to bring your best attitude and form, and have critical conversations that matter, if you're fiddling around doing something else. It's this particular sub-point where I learned what it's like to break the distraction rule, once, so I'm hoping to help others avoid making that same choice.
  3. Glad I was able to spot that, Nurse. (Mechanic sends his regards from work, as always.)

Looking forward to putting this on and seeing the community. Mark your calendars!

Needed to point this for clarification, since Galaxy is erroneously mentioned in this sentence.

    Yes. That too.

    Munitions Mastery for Masterminds!
  6. I 'd like new powersets that would go with concepts I want to make that are currently impossible.
  7. I haven't done a single Valentine's mission yet, even after one week, but this... might have convinced me to start now.

(There was a thread not too long ago somewhere about the need for more tender moments in CoH. Somehow, I think someone took note of that topic.)
  8. Going to throw a screen at the art request wall and hope it sticks. I do have a preference for sketch/line-art type work but I'll take anything to build up my collection.

I actually have many characters that either don't have art or need updated art, and as much as I'd like to commission and support the creative community, it really isn't in my fiscal means to do so. (It's probably like that for a lot of people.)

I'll start with one I've actually posted elsewhere, and see what comes of it. I might post more later if people are willing to bear with me. :P

Gumption, a detective who works a private investigations office in Steel Canyon. He has a cowboy's attitude and an athlete's determination. He's also a mutant gifted with above-average strength and healing, but with one little quirk: when his skin comes into contact with water it becomes extremely adhesive and gum-like, sticking to most anything it comes into contact with. It causes him much annoyance, but he does find "practical" ways of using his gum hide to his advantage.
  9. Pleasure to meet you, Badger! If I have an idea, I'll be glad to pass it along.

I'm aware of the unspoken rule that costume contests are as subjective as those who run them, but I don't think that making the "do X if you want to win next time" comment on a forum was the best idea.

We tried relocating to Founders, but since Christmas, have ended up in Pocket D with everyone else. You get used to it, but I miss our old spot.
I hear ou on the relocating bit. An SG I'm in used to have their big event in Galaxy City's arena every year, but now we have to find a new place for it. Things are working out, though.

    Thanks, Alex! That's beyond gorgeous.
    Ambulatech to the rescue!

... Damn, no screen. Might have to fix that, even though I've already got two other "entrants" in back pages.

    1.) Canon can change.

    2.) i23 is still a bit away.

Or I may delete him because I made him due to boredom and because the name was free.
While I was attepting to post that comment there was, like, five posts including yours. Disregard my little thing and carry on as you were, Shadeknight.

I weouldn't exactly label that player (the one with the Statesman name) as a godmodder off the bat because of whatever influence came over him, but there might be certian challenges that he may end up facing: the most immediate of which may involve the fact that the original Statesman character is still present in the game and will remain there until i23 is implemented.

Then, reiterate the "if the devs change canon..." bit.
  15. Looking forward to the finished product! I'm intrigued after reading all of this.

I could buy a tactic like that, since there was a website thad did something similar over a day back in January, treating every account like it was a subscribed one.
  17. I don't mind having a minor mispelling pointed out to me as long as it's done in a friendly way. After all, one's own worst editor can sometimes be oneself.
  18. There's also the rotating list of Strike Targets for the TFs and SFs. Granted, you can only get the bonus for them once a week per character, but it's a huge chunk of an EXP bonus (especially when you get to the higher levels).
  19. I'd actually like to add another tip here: to find places where you're comfortable roleplaying your characters, be it Atlas Park or the Pocket or somewhere else. Choose some place that actually works for the hero/villian/Praetorian that you're playing: if you're not in a zone that you want to be in, chances are you might not enjoy the RP as much as if you were in the "right place".

I can't say there's one specific way to establish a comfort zone, though. I personally park some characters in specific zones that relate to them in some way, even logging out in them at times.

Also, while Pocket D definitely serves its purpose as a hub zone for cross-alignment interaction (even after GR)... one person's cup of tea can be another hero's kryptonite. You'll know which one you are if you go. I don't mean to say that meaningful RP can't happen in the D (I've experienced it once or twice), there's still that certian stigma that looms around the place. It's one of those "mileage varies" things.
  20. Backtracking to the OP, since I don't think I've ever actually commented on it since the thread went sour.

Honestly? The opinion of how to write a good character description is simply an opinion, and an extremely subjective one at that. I try to read character bios whenever I can: sometimes I find really good ones that are worthy of a "nice concept" tell from me, and others that just don't work with my thought processes.

There's a phrase that comes to mind when looking back at this topic: if you don't have anything nice to say, then it might be better to not say anything at all. I could complain and call out the people who have those "badly-written descriptions", but I have the decency and common sense to hold my tongue and keep my opinions to myself, especially on a forum where it has the chance to be shot down by people who will defend themselves.

Part of the reason why there's been so much negativity in this one topic probably stems from the fact that the OP felt the necessity to include examples that he felt were "bad". It's something that I, as a poster with my own subjective opinions on the subject, would have left out. Dragging conflict from another (DV's) thread into this one was the back-breaking straw, here.

I want to repeat the call that CoH is a game, and a massively multiplayer one at that. There's too many minds to call for a strict standard of "how" something should be done, and it's a generally futile effort to try to singlehandedly shape a community (especially with this being the internet, of all places) into a mould.
  21. Add a cricket bat to the pile of suggestions.
  22. Oh wow, I'm really liking the take on the Fox: I think it's the pose you got him in.

Anticipating the next one, crossing fingers, too!
  23. Given that it's the weekend? You might see some sort response/action Monday or Tuesday. That's what happened with me the last time I had to have something settled.
  24. Player-created original characters that people actually spend time building from scratch have less meaning and are less likely to be commented on than a player-piloted NPC mockup?

I really don't agree with this.
