LOL, this is the point I was highlighting.

Castle pointing that out it wasn't something they ever intended is self evident by its implementation. IOW, if they envisioned that players would reach the 2B mark they probably never would have had it capped at 2B in the first place.

For *someone* to interpret those words as 'abusing the cap' or violating the TOS is the height of absurdity. If I believed this was true, I'd petition the devs to put a cap on trading influence at 2B inf per day. ...hmmm, wait a minute...
  2. Nothing to be screwed about. Mac Nvidia drivers have zero support for SLI so there is nothing that Paragon Studios can do about it.

If Apple ever decided to implement SLI support then you can push Paragon Studios to get it going for the Mac client.

I will go one better than this. I will give 2 billion and one inf to the first person who puts up a link directly supporting JS's claim (ie red name proof) in this thread.

    Consider it a contest.

Some memories of BaBs. I always thought his heart was in this game...what a shame he was let go.

Yah, I could crop this stuff but I won't.

When I20 comes out, there will be a lot of it and it will be because the trial/TF is "too hard".

They are not claiming to be making content just like all the old stuff. They are claiming to be making content that requires IOs, that requires coordination, that almost requires the higher survivability of tanker, and content where failure is going to be likely until you learn how.

Task Forces only require getting at most 8 people who know how. 24 is a harder pool to get (although you should probably be able to get away with less as long your leaders are good communicators), but, in time, enough people will know how that it will become trivial. The time required is not a week and likely not a month, however. If you want to be among the first and the best, you need to join a raid SG. If you want to just join PUG raids, you will likely need to be among those that take awhile to learn and figure out how to coordinate.
Banning an temp power arbitrarily is not 'making content'. If they want to get rid of nukes altogether, I won't cry about it. I'm not even say things are hard (quite the contrary), I'm asking for consistency.

If someone needs training wheels to finish the TF, is that such a bad thing? Everything in this game, including CoP is pretty trivial, so banning the nukes isn't even going to slow down the fast players in the slightest. Suggesting that someone needs to join a raid SG isn't even necessary to do things fast. Heck, you barely need anything more than SOs.

I'm all for taking away the sugar coated pablum that has been fed to the players, but most of them have such rotten teeth now that they can only gum their way to success. Taking away nukes for a single trial isn't a consistent way to rehabilitate them.

I think it's fun, as it does test the organizational skills of the team and personal skills of each player. It doesn't need to be as extreme as a +4 tf but doing it fast is less boring than doing it slow (read what you want into that :P)

Grats on the sub 20 itf! Time to start banning nukes in itf as well. And envenomed daggers. And shivs. And superspeed.

  17. Since MMs are unique in that they can feed their pets insps, I sometimes throw an EoE on my Assault bot and run it into Hami to take the alpha. Without any kb protection it gets knocked around a lot, but it can survive by itself easily with EoE protection.

As for RWZ ship raids, the Justice runs are usually very MM friendly since everyone rushes the middle of the ship as soon as they conjure up the GM and pwn him. Then herders mass all the rikti into the center of the ship and farm them en masse. As a MM, nothing is easier than sitting in the middle and letting the pets do all the work. Since there are usually a couple of bubblers and traps, having full mez protection and def capped pets without needed ST buffing makes it really easy for squishies and MMs to rack up xp/merits/inf.

Putting out a HVAS during the center defense works really well for MMs since you can go full BG mode and the pets will respond to the HVAS getting aggro and you can pretty much afk for dinner while they go to work and reap you vanguard merits. An average raid usually gets me 625 +/- 200 merits depending, but the HVAS usually puts me on the higher end, which is easily a net profit. If you have enough savvy players putting out HVAS then the merit bonanza is multiplied.
  18. Have the weightings been changed or updated for i18 or are these results still valid and still being worked on?

Every encounter is exactly the same in this game. Smash stuff, kill an AV. Here they offer you content which requires the absolute minimum of coordination and the player's solution to this problem is: Get a bigger hammer. This is always the solution to any problem in this game becuase that's how the Dev's have chosen to make it. Its cake people. It really is.

I did this encounter for the first time and I laughed my *** off. This is what passes for hard in this game. The group I was with was trying to figure out how to kill the first wave of spawns (before the shield ever comes down on the AV) faster. They didn't address taking them down faster between shields - they simply wanted to take down the first group faster. The only group of spawns that just doesn't matter. Not one bit.

When I pointed out that we could easily finish the CoP, it was cancelled "because not everyone brought nukes like they were supposed to!".

This is the reason nukes got banned. 99% of the runs of CoP were requiring that you not only be X AT, but that you have nukes, shivs, boards with nails in them, anything and everything that could constitute a bigger hammer.

We were talking about this trial today on a global channel and you know what someone said? They said "Without nukes, how are we supposed to take down the AV in 45 seconds?!"

    Big hint:

    You're not.

    *gasp*

The rewards are fine - its a 15 minute trial. It something that will be run later when people learn how to do this REALLY HARD thing on a whim, like the impromptu mother ship raids that happen now. And the pug CoPs will be done in less time than it takes to get the 24 people together. 10 merits for 20 minutes of your time is not all that bad - most servers can't run the ITF in 20 minutes - so it works out.

Heck, I'm sure in a few months someone will have this down so pat that they might even do a CoP run at least once a week if not more for the "quick merits".

People still kill Hami - obviously getting people together to do things (on most servers) is not an issue.
There's nothing really hard about RWZ ship raids either but what I'm pointing to in terms of the CoP trial is that well organized teams won't have an issue with or without nukes. In fact from my original post I said that getting nukes is a loser for the fast teams anyhow since the time required to do that is less productive than just running in and getting it done.

The problem I have with banning nukes is that you are only punishing non-optimal teams and players that may not have many opportunities to get 24 people together. It's just another kick in the junk for those that couldn't get it done before. It also runs the risk of arbitrary changes to specific powers and encounters just to satisfy the whimsy of the devs.

I'm pretty sure you lucked through the encounter if you laughed you *** off doing the encounter for the first time. If you've been the one running the raid you should know what kind of headaches there are in getting everyone together and organized, and that not everyone is familiar with their roles, when to stop, start, gather etc. Of course that gets easier with time and repetition but if everyone leaves the CoP with a sour taste in their mouth then it pretty much is a deal killer for repeat business.

I'm all for making things harder in the game, but taking away a tool like the nuke seems like a spurious and arbitrary nerf. If they put an absolute limit on the number of nuke buffs that any player or npc could be buffed or debuffed by then it would make more sense than just pulling the nukes from CoP alone.

The nerf is probably in anticipation of Incarnate rewards being tied to it or some other thing the devs don't want to comment on. Still this kind of bites since it means non optimal teams will have one less tool to work with.

Since it is obvious that regular teams can do a sub 15 minute CoP already I don't really see the point of banning nukes anyhow. The time needed to get 24 x 3 nukes far outweighs the benefit for a fast team anyhow. I can probably see a fast team doing a CoP in 8 minutes flat if everyone was sync'd perfectly and using nukes, but the collective time needed to farm so many nukes makes that less effective than just running in and being coordinated.

The CoP nuke nerf is just going to benefit the haves while the have nots are going to be left out in the cold once again.

Since you haven't run away screaming by now, I suppose we can tie a big red Justice bow around you.

To answer your original question, there are events that most of the community tries to attend. Those are generally (blue) hami raids and RWZ ship raids. Given that Hami needs a minimum of level 45 to attend, ship raids are probably a better way to go for new folk.

However, the zone caps have put a bit of a cramp on the old Justice style of packing them in. I had discussed a zone packing event with a redname, but the event was frowned upon (virtually) as being a bad thing. So usually most Justice events are also attended in channels since it is so easy to fill up a zone nowadays.

In many ways the channels have taken over from supergroups, friends, coalitions, broadcast and forum chats since it is so darn convenient. Actually if I had my druthers I would have pushed Paragon Studios to develop a chat client/plugin that could allow you to hook into the various channels using any established instant messenger format. It would've allowed many people to keep yapping even if they weren't truly playing.

There are other special events like costume contests and auctions, but you will generally see them advertised here on the forums with a lot of lead time.
