    Statesman's Pal

am part way thru the arc on my kinetics defender as well...

get a team and an evening (after 7.15 ) and I could be there
  2. no offence - honest

but people are still going with the opinion that the only reasons people don't take taunt is to either a) solo or b) not be the first to fall over in a team.

honestly... neither has to be true...
  3. the lvl range is 36+ afaik... (cant take the trial but can join it the minute you can enter the abandoned sewers)
  4. aye, illusion really makes that trial a bit easy
  5. argh can't make it for 6.45 if you peeps can wait till about 7.15 then i should be there. if not sorry
  6. The thing with absorb pain is the not being able to heal yourself after using it for 30 seconds. As a controller perhaps drawing aggro I imagine this could result in unwanted debt.

Even though I have absorb pain on my empath, and use it when needed, I'm not sure I'd want to have it as my only single target heal

Just think Heal Other is the safer option TBH.

    No Heal Other? Why?!

I can't say I like the way that you've slotted most of your powers, but I suppose I'm looking at it from a purely PvP standpoint. In PvE it doesn't really matter how you slot.

    [/ QUOTE ]

since when doesn't pve need proper slotting...:P

I second that about heal other tho

    [/ QUOTE ]
you can quite easily get away with red or no enhancements in a lot of powers and still manage OK in PvE... course, you just manage rather than do brilliantly I think...

I'll third the heal other comment too... I'd swap out absorb pain and take heal other if it were me... much as it pains me to say get rid of absorb pain...
  8. [ QUOTE ]
    Did it work?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I was one of the SSG's...

The idea with the names and the costumes was... rather than to confuse for the whole match more to give us a couple of seconds to get the upper hand. We didn't expect people to be confused for the entire time. And, as Xanthus said, this actually worked to a degree when they TP'd our tank rather than the controller

I think, perhaps, the tactic worked slightly better against some of the less organised teams - but I might be wrong...

And... for the record it actually confused our team as well as it was hard to remember who people were
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Probably because empaths are so common they bore the socks of me.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'll have you know when I'm playing my empath I can be very witty and often relate some rather humerous anecdotes.

    Far from boring
  10. happy birthday Plight...

My present to you is posting on this thread so you can look at the avatar
  11. Just saw you in Talos!

Gratz on your 50 - was fun the times we teamed... except maybe that time I offered to help with the Envoy of Shadows... that wasn't good...

Not keen on really getting into arguments with people about this though - I save that for those absorb pain nay-sayers :P

    [/ QUOTE ]

taunt has often been my psuedo absorb pain. Even more now since ED i wont be without AP on my empath and it has saved the butts of some other empaths alts(who wouldnt have it). It doesnt kill you, bad teams get you killed because if you have to use it that much something is definately wrong (ie tanker not holding aggro).

    [/ QUOTE ]
oh i wasn't saying absorb pain was a bad power - it's my fave power in the game for all the reasons you state above...
  13. Don't get me wrong - I'm not offended... nor taking it any of it personally. I just don't believe a taunting tank is a necessity in 95% of situations. The scenario you posted is a difficult one because 3 scrappers and 1 tank vs something like Eden is always going to be difficult and require a different type of gameplay than your average mission. With three (squishy) scrappers the tank is always going to have to play a slightly different game... and I (perhaps) wrongly believe that a tanutless tank could still come out of that situation with all three scrappers alive. I might have to go and test it to see what I would do tho :P

Perhaps I didnt show the tauntless tankers ability.. but I still stand firm by the idea that if the tauntless tank had been doing a bad job and not holding the aggro my storm defender would have died vs the Crystal Titan. I know how much aggro my stormy attracts :P

It is a very personal belief tho and I think without teaming in such a situation I'm not sure that people can see my view point

Not keen on really getting into arguments with people about this though - I save that for those absorb pain nay-sayers :P

(for the record I have teamed with a tauntless tank and thought "what the heck?!" but he was Granite... without mudpots and taunt and we were fighting a +4 AV in the shape of black swan... and due to the debuff the punchvoke from gauntlet just wasn't doing a thing... I think that's seriosuly the only time I've been truly worried about a tank without taunt...)

p.s. how is that defender coming along? :P
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Indeed it isn't a good indicator. Psygons teams suffered so few deaths because of the high amount of heals/buffs/debuffs available rather than tanking powers. I was just using it to illustrate GM PBAoE squishy-saving tactics, which cant work with tauntless tankers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

but your actual original question was:

    [ QUOTE ]
I'd love to see how a tauntless tank can protect his team mates who are gathered around the feet of a monster in such an effective way.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I showed you a team that did it... we were happily gathered around the feet of the GMs... and none died. Green numbers or no green numbers... part of the point is the tauntless tank did a fine enough job and we had a nice team to back it up... Maybe there is something to the fact that I think the team is more important than the tank. Hence why I think a tauntless tank can work just fine as long as what you have in the rest of the team does a superb job...

    Regarding the eden trial....

Sure heals were great and we had plenty of them, but you can't ignore the part tanking played on that team for one simple reason.

Ambrosia'd up or not the Crystal Titan kills you with one footstomp if you are a squishy. I know. I'd swallowed 1 the week before when he faceplanted my Ice Controller. Yet, not a single person died on the titan the second time we ran it. And we had similar level of debuffs both times...

    [ QUOTE ]
GM PBAoE squishy-saving tactics, which cant work with tauntless tankers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think you are right about this to a degree. However, once a tank has epics they can do this job quite nicely without taunt.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
With that much healing power on a team no wonder you only had 2 deaths. Care to post the team makeup of the team with the taunting tanker? I'm guessing a load less green numbers flying around...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, it was a very similar number of green numbers flying around. The other time we did the trial we ran with:

    1 x Illusion/Rad Controller (50)
    1 x Ice/Kinetics Controller (50)
    1 x Earth/Empathy Controller (39)
    1 x Mind/Kinetics Controller (43)
    1 x Forcefield/Archery Defender (50)
    1 x Inv/Energy Melee Tank (50)
    1 x Peacebringer (40)
    1 x warshade (40)

Edit: oh and I think this team only had about 4 deaths. Not 100% sure, think there were 2 deaths on the titan and 2 sometime before.

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm also curious if the ill controller was /rad. Chances are good that it was, which would have floored the GMs attacks anyway (dmg, acc, recharge), or /kin, which is more green and -(acc, rech, dmg, resist) anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]

nope it was a /trick arrow illusionist. So no extra green numbers - sure debuffs from the arrows they have (glue, disruption, oil and EMP I believe).

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm not saying taunt makes the tank (where you seem to be saying it makes the team).

    [/ QUOTE ]
i'm not saying that at all - or not intentionally anyway. I don't believe tanks (with or without taunt) make teams - teams make teams. If thats how my post came across then oops. I highlighted the tank just incase anyone glancing down the page might miss it.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Giant Monsters (etc) with footstomp (esque) pbaoes are easily overcome by perching up somewhere or hover/flying while taunting, as previously mentioned. I have done it several times while doing Eden Trial runs (for the Granite monsters and Crystal Titan), a trial I very much enjoy. I'd love to see how a tauntless tank can protect his team mates who are gathered around the feet of a monster in such an effective way.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Recently did the Eden Trial with the following team:

    1 x Kinetics Defender (lvl 39)
    1 x Nrg/Nrg Blaster (lvl 39)
    1 x Illusion Controller (lvl 42 I *think*)
    1 x Empath (lvl 43)
    1 x Storm Defender (lvl 46)
    1 x DM/SR Scrapper (lvl 50)
    1 x Tauntless Tank (lvl 45)
    1 x Dark Defender (lvl 50)

Had a grand total of 2 deaths throughout the entire trial

1 of them was when the Scrapper decided to show his costume off to a big group of DE outside (and the tank was no where near) in Eden doing the kill 200 mission, the other was when the Kinetics defender decicided to go for a super douper fulcrum shift about 2 seconds before the tank had fully managed the aggro from a big group of those crystal DE thingies...

Never even came close to death while taking down both of the big rock GMs or the crystal titan.

So, um, actually... tauntless tanking in the Eden trial can work fine

(as a comparison we ran the same Trial the week before with a taunting tank and we actually had more deaths...)

    3vP is coming!

    [ QUOTE ]
on sign up would you pick one of your characters per player (even if they have more than 1 account) and be required to stick with that char for the full season?

    [/ QUOTE ]
i imagine you would have to, to avoid:

    a) having a draw with two of yourself on the team
    b) having a draw and having to fight yourself
  18. Psygon

    3vP is coming!

Well... I think it sounds like a lot of fun... and a good follow up to last years S4 Tournament

    Looking forward to it!
  19. oh... so that's who you are!

Has been fun fighting against you...
  20. I've never really seen them near the skyway door... it's mainly in the middle area near where the entrance to the tunnels are... though you do find a few up on the hilly bit in the far corner opposite the skyway door...
  21. you can get the badge for the igneous quite easily in the hollows. Just team with someone who has an aura of some kind like mud pots, arctic air and get them to wake up the bosses in grendals gulch. It's much much easier to get this like this then at lvl 15ish doing the trial when the bosses can kill you

I am happy to help out and do this if we can get an 8 man team as I have 2 toons with auras... and pretty sure only one of them has that particular badge

Was wondering when a gratz post would appear
  23. i will help you out if needed: ill/empath with TP and group invis at lower than lvl 15

last time I did this it took 15 mins....

    (hallucinate: lvl 32 ill/empath)
