In other news ... I will still have a problem with guys in Crab Spider Armor marching around in Atlas Park, even if they were supposed to be good guy spies from the beginning like Prince Recluse, but I'll make you a deal - if the Paragon authorities force all Soldiers of Arachnos to paint their armor bright pink so we can easily tell them apart from active Arachnos forces, I'll be able to suspend my disbelief a lot easier

    [/ QUOTE ]

    In a word ..... No.

But that gives me an idea. That WOULD be cool if they created sort of a "Crossover" set of Emblems (Chest Details) and costume pieces, like an "Ex-Arachnos Symbol" or something.

Uh. You replied to me, even though a lot of intervening posts were made, so I can only guess you're actually responding to me in particular ... look over my posts again if you're really calling me a DOOMsayer. I'm not. Honest.

Just enjoy it for what it IS.

That's not a bad philosophy, but this game didn't get where it is today by the player community keeping their mouths shut about what they wanted to see happen. Rogue isn't going to be released tomorrow, and making our voices heard now about how we hope it turns out WILL make a difference.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, I wasn't specifically talking about, or referring to, "you". I was talking in general about the "This is going to ruin CoX forever" Doomslingers. I am all for people giving ideas and alternate theories to things and mechanics. I am well aware of the great community that has helped create the game CoX has come to be and I am very thankful for that.

And by "enjoy it for what it IS" I meant, enjoy the fact that it is a ton of NEW content, no matter what the content is.

Oh btw.. I'm only assuming like everyone else that when you zone into this new praetoria zone coming in issue 16, your morality meter will be one or the other, hero or villain with a gray area in between.

My reason for this is that the system must prohibit people from becoming heroes or villains at 51%. If they didn't, then mules will be created to shuffle influence over to infamy and vise versa. This would also include the auction house, and access to contacts and stores.

I'm guessing in order for a player to have full access to either side, they must be at 70-90% on their meter in order to access anything. Otherwise there would be a huge loophole in the way people transfer funds and drops to villain side or hero side.

With a 20% gray area on your meter, you basically cannot access or trade anything until you reach 70-90%. This would keep folks from exploiting by crossing over when ever they see fit and causing mayhem. Not that there's anything wrong with a little mayhem, but it would add an unfair advantage to players who could switch so easilty at that 50% marker on the meter.

    [/ QUOTE ]

At first I was against your argument, but then I thought about it and you have a very good point. I think they will have some mechanics in place that will balance this, but you do have an interesting theory there.

Although what you say at the begining: 1: it is not an "Issue" per-say, it is like CoV, a new game (almost). 2: the morality "compass",I don't think, will be EITHER hero or villian, but more of a meter FROM hero TO villain. Maybe.

Just had to jump in here and say.. FINALLY!!

    and.. HUZZAH!!

The trailer looks awesome, the concept is awesome (not just an instant switch, but slowly working one way or the other), and who doesn't love an alternate universe story? especially in comics!

    can't wait can't wait can't wait CAN'T WAIT!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    - Exactly. Well stated.

... oh. And about the whole Arachnos in Paragon not working out: it works Perfectly for me. Prince Recluse (Freedom) was originally born a hero (backstory bio) and is just in Rogue Isles posing as a villian .... well .... becoming villain, and infiltrating Arachnos from within to seek revenge on his father. Never though it would happen but I had always planed for him to "return" to Paragon all "Ex-Arachnos-ed decked out". After some possibly interesting trials, it is looking like this could finally be a possibility. Freakin awesome AND explains my Arachnos in Atlas.

  5. P.S - I'm not religious, but: Has anyone on these forums ever heard of the "Serenity Prayer"? Might want to look into it. Here is a preview:

"Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change"

City of Heroes, and City of Villains will (for the most part) stay the same.

    [/ QUOTE ]

well not sure of that. IMO lotof villains will go "hero side" (more quick tf, more people, better market)

i fear it will "hurt" CoV

    [/ QUOTE ]

True. Granted it MAY change the populations of the respected "sides", I meant that the game mechanics and abilities allowed in the individual areas will stay the same (generally). There may been new zones, ATs, powers, etc., but Atlas Park will still be the same Atlas Park we currently know. This in no way spells DOOM for CoH or CoV, ASIDE from some players playing on the "other side".
  7. In case people can't seem to understand this....Let me clear it up:

Villains are not going to be able to walk into Atlas Park and start wailing on Heroes. Nor will it be Vice Versa. If you are in Atlas Park or Mercy Isle, then it will be because you are supposed to be there. You will be on "that" side and will not be able to attack "that" side. City of Heroes, and City of Villains will (for the most part) stay the same. If an Arachnos Soldier is gonna walk into Atlas Park, it will be on the side of the Heroes, however that works out, and they will fight against Villain Soldiers.

Please remember, the Devs have been at this whole "Game Making" thing for a while now. It is not like they are just gonna make everything they have done in the past totally irrelevant, nor are they gonna force the player base one way or another. Hell, everything they have done has primarily been in an effort to make "everyone" happy, even if it means lacking benefit to the Hardcore players.
And they are not going to do anything that is completely illogical either, without enough story and plot lines to justify the action (like an Arachnos based hero). Give it time and wait for more info before you start throwing DOOM judgment on things you don't even have the slightest bit of official confirmation on.

Just enjoy it for what it IS.
  8. Oh and also, they talk about Double Agents and Staying in the Gray Middle area, like being with the Heroes or Villains and in their Zones, while still "hailing" from the "other team".

Like whoever before was talking about the Video symbolism and what exactly it meant having Manticore and Ghost Widow in there. They don't HAVE to switch sides, they may still be one side, but switch over as a Double Agent to take down that side. Thus the whole new "Spy" AT. A spy "Spies" on the other side while being loyal to another. Just cause you are IN Paragon City, doesn't make you a hero..... Enjoy.

MMORPG.com: Will what your character does in the parallel universe affect the character in the "real" universe, or are the two separate?

    From the mmorpg interview:

MMORPG.com: Will what your character does in the parallel universe affect the character in the "real" universe, or are the two separate?

Matt Miller: The two universes are separate, but joined. What your character does in one only truly affects that one, but that can have repercussions across both worlds.

Ok Im still confused, can you really switch sides or just in mirror universe? If my mastermind can switch sides and go to paragon, but wait is paragon city in alternate universe good or ruled by tyrant? SO really good side becomes rogue isles,,, EEGGGHHHHAAARRGGHHh iM so confused!!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Let me break this down. When GR hits, there will be three Cities: Paragon City, Rogue Isles, and Praetoria.

Paragon is Hero only, RI is Villain only, and Praetoria is accessible to everyone. While in Praetoria, you can do stuff that will affect your alignment. If a Hero does enough Bad stuff, he will lose access to Paragon City and only be able to access the Rogue Isles. The same goes for a Villain with the locations reversed, obviously.

    Does this help?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's a great explanation that should be inserted into the FAQ.

I knew that, but I like how you spelled it out nicely and neatly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Exactly! I don't see how this is that hard for everyone. It is not like this Expansion is going to EAT CoH and CoV. It will be just like CoV when it came out: It will be a compliment to CoX, and the 2 games will intermingle, but they will still primarily be their own entities. For thos that need more reference as to how this will work, check out all the Guild Wars Expansions and how the games intermingle while still being separate. Those screaming doom need to think about it for a sec. They are not going to make the 2 MAIN games Coh and CoV totally invalid. They will just ADD to them.

    Enough about that...

I also believe that power custimization WILL be part of this, in one way or another, not because of the small clip in the video though.

But while everyone is talking about the video and its symbolism, it blows mind mind that EVERYONE missed this one thing and no one is talking about this possible aspect of the Expansion....
In the video, the Evil Statesman / Tyrant says "My power, Like my EMPIRE, knows NO BOUNDS."

For YEARS people, and the devs, have been talking and hinting to "Taking down the War Walls". Look at the city in the video on the screen with Regular statesmen, and how they say it looks like paradise, NO big blue war walls in the back!.
Seriously, did no one pick up on this?
While Paragon and the Isles stay the same (maybe), there will be another (possibly mirror) world where there are no War Walls and the world is open (knows NO BOUNDS).

Ok enough about that. I will let the speculation begin.

Also, Yes it will be boxed, no it won't cost $50 (maybe CE at most), But yes you will have to pay for it. Since you have to have CoX first in order to use the expansion, they won't charge for it like a standalone game. I would expect the Standard to cost either $29 or $39 at most. Enough about that.

Probably still just the one subscription fee still as well.

What else.... read the whole thread so I wanna make sure I cover everything.

Oh and changing will not be permanent, as they said, there is an EVER CHANGING moral compass. You don't just "re-pick" hero or villain.

It is an expansion, folks. It is NOT a new game OR a CoX Make-over/destroyer. Oh and for those that are thinking it is I16 or some new Issue update.... NO.

To the devs: Thank you! I love you. You keep surprising me, and it gets better and better each time. I am more excited about this than I can say, or you could listen to. Don't let the Doomers get you down.

Woot! No more War Walls and Superhumans taking the train!!

P.S. - Could a Red Name or someone PLEASE tell me where I can get a High Res (or Low even) Image of the Going Rogue background screen for my Desktop. Please?!.

  11. Love it. Didn't even know it was happening until I checked the site today. Great surprise! Looks great. Nice change from the old look. CoH.com v2.0 Slightly wish it was spread throughout whole site, like here in the forums, but even just as a homepage it is great QoL change for the better. Many thanks Devs and Artists. Keep it up.

Is the comic limted to 4-8 pages, or can we...slightly expand that number?

    [/ QUOTE ]

According to the rules: 4-8 is the min/max limit. The 8 part is so everyone isn't sending in long stories that would take forever to read and would extend the judging portion much longer. I wouldn't doubt that it is also to see who can be the most creative in a limited space.

    Good luck
  13. Sounds like tons o' fun and I have been looking for an excuse to try out the Comic Book Creator software.

    But...

Lighthouse, please help me out here. That contest info is covered with the start date being "Friday, March 27, 2007"....

Contest begins Friday, March 27, 2007 at 2:00pm (CDT) and ends at 11:59pm (CDT) on Monday, April 27, 2007. Entries will not be accepted after this deadline. Winners will be announced no later than Wednesday, May 25.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are we in some sort of alternate dimension? Or was someone just really not paying attention? Cause I could have swore that today was TUESDAY March 27, 2007. Does this contest start on Friday? Or does it start on the 27th? I am confused.

And I know that "Technically" this doesn't matter, but this is a rather odd typo that is ALL OVER that contest info, and I just wanted to 1) bring it to their attention if it wasn't already, 2) Find out exactly when it starts, 3) make sure that the end date is not messed up too cause that could seriously upset late entries, 4) make sure I am not going crazy and that it really is Tuesday the 27th of March 2007 today.

Thanks Lighthouse, your the best. Thanks for pointing your beacon of light this way.

And good luck to all you entering the contest. I wish you all could win.

It's tobad our ultimate foe is a big blob of goo. I used to love fighting boses in nintendo games because they were always something really cool looking and often scary, like in Zelda. But I am still looking forward to I9

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah... Hamidon as the 'ultimate foe' is a little... I don't know. Disapointing? Ultimate foes should also look the part. Giant blobs don't really do it for me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Agreed. /signed <QT>, w/e

I thought I was the only one who thought that Hami was a bit....bland. I always heard people talking about doing a Hami raid, and I just thought people thought it was cool. I've done a few, but it didn't seem like any real "Epic" battle or anything. Something about fighting dessert that just seems silly. The idea is great, just the Hami character is a bit lackluster.

On the Cryptic Website, in their "In Development" section about future games, they have a concept picture of what I think would be a GREAT epic boss or something like Hami. It is the first pic, where it looks like a jungle and it is just a Giant, ancient, monster-thing with a big club. That would be cool.
But of course, Hami is fine now, especially since they plan on fixing it, and I am happy with that. But we can dream....

Is anyone else slightly disappointed with that video?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not really. The videos are always teasers.

Heck, I'm glad they don't show too much - things that have been in videos before (like feather physics for wings, robot leg sounds for robot legs, walking, etc.) sometimes don't make it to Live (or are just for demo purposes), often leaving those who notice these small details disappointed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Very true, and good point. I do feel a shot of some invention window would have been nice, but none the less, better to not know what IS coming, oppose to knowing what MIGHT NOT be coming.
  16. Is anyone else slightly disappointed with that video?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the hell out of a preview and I loved the fact that they had the kindness to show us all that they did. But it just seems like a bit misleading. It talks about "previewing the invention system", but aside from the wings (which we have seen in pictures) and the bat and sledgehammer (which I am thankful for), the only preview of the invention system I saw was toons using the invent emote (the animation I mean). I was expecting a shot of the invention window or maybe a shot of the "new enhancement created" title (like "Badge Earned") or whatever. Didn't really see too much new stuff. As far as actual "inventing". The rest was phenominal.

Again, I am not shouting DOOM or spreading hate for anything, just wondering if anyone was a little disappointed by the "invention preview" as I was. Otherwise I thought it was a great preview and I bow down with my hat off to the Devs.
  17. Prince_Recluse

    Cryptic article.

Oh and btw, I am also 100% for giving priority MUO beta testing to CoX player, since we are technically the pioneers of the superhero MMO.

    But your call
  18. Prince_Recluse

    Cryptic article.

First of all, let me say that I rarely post on the forums (although I am constantly reading them) because I like to keep a low profile and I don't really want to get involved in the persistent bickering back and forth of things that are unsure. Also, since this game has changed my life in numerous ways, I don't want to upset the great people that made such an incredible game or the community that makes it what it is today. Text conversation can easily be taken out of context and inability to express the intended emotion can lead to misinterpretation. So usually I just observe. But some things must be said.

The main thing that has really bugged me is the fact that this whole thread is about everyone being up in arms about Cryptic making another game and the possible demise of the CoX Franchise. Everyone seems to be pretty upset about MUO for the most part and wants Cryptic to continue focusing their efforts on CoX. So please, dear lord please, explain to me why the very same people who are bashing Cryptic for going astray with MUO, would have the ridiculously subconscious hypocracy to sit here and (in the exact same thread) BEG CRYPTIC TO START MAKING A MECH MMO?!?!?! Are you serious?! You can't be serious. Are you really serious? Maybe it is just because I am not a Mech person, but if they even toyed with the idea of making a Mech MMO (your idea may I remind you) and it somehow came out to the public, then it would only continue to spawn more and more "Threads of Distress" just like this one. You have got to be kidding me. You are telling Statesman that although you are disappointed and appalled that his team would even bother working on a new game that might take the attention (and resources) away from CoX, even though Marvel and NCSoft are there to make sure that doesn't happen, but yet you would be more than overly excited if they decided to take on a completely new and possibly totally original project, that would most definitely destroy the few resources that CoX now has left. You are saying "Please don't take away our CoX for MUO, but if you want to do it for a Mech MMO, then that is cool and sign me up". Just wanted to make sure you realized what you were doing.

Secondly, Mech MMO aside, I am a whole-heartedly devoted fan and loyal follower of Crytic, NCSoft, and most importantly CoX. I wish I could say I have been on since day 1, but I wasn't aware of the game until August of 04, so close enough. This game has taken over my life and even ripped me out of my Halo dedication. This is my first real MMO/PC game addiction/ and RPG addiction even. I have played WoW and GW since joining the MMORPG community and none of them can compare to this game in my eyes. That being sad, as you can imagine, I too have been GREATLY disheartened by recent press from Cryptic, including the MUO ordeal as well as the lack of original updated content of recent, and the lack of answers about it. And I too, upon reading most of the 28 pages of this thread, slowly became certain of the soon to be demise of the greatest game of our time. But then I realized thanks to many informed posters, that this is in no way a certain sign of death for CoX. I am not saying that CoX will live forever, but they are right in saying that MUO will technically have no real effect on CoX because Marvel is in control of MUO just as NCSoft is in control of CoX. Cryptic just makes it all possible. Once MUO is out, Marvel can only have so many original ideas, but Cryptic and NCSoft have no predetermined destinies. They can continue to build upon an already thriving campaign since their originality is what brought them the success and the Marvel deal (although originally based on lawsuit) in the first place. Although this could easily be a large stall in the CoX of old, this is (especially without any ACTUAL CONFIRMATION FROM STAFF) in no way a reason to look upon CoX as in it's dying days.

Those of you that think that a team that can bring such heroes to life with a way that makes them nothing less than heroes themselves, would dare be so corrupt and soulless to drop the community that shared their ups and downs, on our faces without so much as a "thanks for everything, we love you" and leave us with nothing as they vanish into a pool of money...if you truly believe this, then leave the game now. Or if you are going to fill the forums with your talk of how "It's the end of CoX forever!! The sky is falling!!" and how if they have a success with MUO, then you are quiting CoX because they don't care about you anymore....then go ahead, leave now. We could really use less lag on Freedom. And I need some character names freed up, and I am sure you've got em, so go ahead and leave. I much like my father Lord Recluse, will be going down with the ship. I have spent way, way, way too much time and money, and invested so much of my life in to this game, to give up on the years of good times I have had just because I am scared of possible hearsay. None of this is proven folks, so please just give Cryptic, Statesman (Jack), and Positron (Matt) the time they need to come out and shine like the heroes they are. (Or at least the heroes I am praying they are).

Good luck Cryptic. I'm behind you all the way!
