Since the execution of both the character and the story are paramount and execution of said story is evoked through the medium of internet gameplay as a sort of virtual performance art, I've decided to call mine a "thespian's ongoing online novella".
Since that's so long, I'll just abbreviate it to T.O.O.N. and assume everyone who's anyone knows what I mean.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll allow this if you continue to use the punctuation to denote it as an acronym.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll do that if you promise to put periods into "radar" and "laser" and so on.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh wait, I like that better, justification for toon.

Click_Beetle was at least the second person in the thread to make that joke. Don't inflate his ego any MORE. -

Do we even have a word that conveys the feeling of "extremely mild annoyance, so very mild that it only barely registers as such before it's gone"? Hmm. I can't offhand think of a term. Anyone else?

Irksome?
[/ QUOTE ]
Irksome is good. Perturbed? Pithy?
[/ QUOTE ]
I still like "tooned". -

I find it funny that people can get annoyed by such trivial things
[/ QUOTE ]
I find it much funnier that anyone thinks anyone here, at all, on either side, is "annoyed". Annoyed in my mind is a rather strong feeling, and the reaction to/for "toon" is not felt much.
Do we even have a word that conveys the feeling of "extremely mild annoyance, so very mild that it only barely registers as such before it's gone"? Hmm. I can't offhand think of a term. Anyone else? I suggest we make one up. I suggest "tooned".
Look, here's a metaphor for my (and no doubt others') "annoyance" with the word "toon". I go to the mall, I see someone in a bright red Mustang. I don't like red cars and wouldn't have one myself, but what the hell, it ain't my car. The only annoyance I'll feel doesn't even register before it's gone. I don't judge anyone driving a red car by just that, of course not, it's the mildest feeling possible.
Now, if they take up two spaces with their red car, have a cell phone stuck to their ear while driving it, are screaming profanities and/or sexual terms (in public) at whoever they're calling, have an infant on the front seat, and have body odor that'd knock a buzzard off a [censored] truck at 100 yards...THEN I'll judge them. And their car is still utterly immaterial. -

I never got the "toon" thing either. To me it's a bit too frivolous a term to be applying to any of MY characters, but what the heck, if other people think of it that way, I can't stop 'em.

'Cause "Buttered Cat" and "Nerf-Herder" are such serious names?
[/ QUOTE ]
There is a rather huge difference between "frivolous" and "humorous". Even if you don't like the joke. -
You can call your Hero a toon, but you can't toon a fish!
I swear, I oughta charge for this [censored]! -
I call my characters...characters.

Dude, would you, like, practice your dark arts somewhere else?
I mean, I have a post in this thread somewhere, and it's a REALLY crappy and embarassing post and I'd hoped it was dead. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I'm not too keen on this "Safe guard" mission idea. I will hold my final judgement when it goes live.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ditto. However, I was also apprehensive about Mayhem Missions, and my worries proved unfounded. I hope for a similarly pleasant surprise during Safeguards.
Hero versions certainly do sound much less interesting, to be sure. Hell, I have plenty of Heroes who are EAGER to trash some evildoer's lab or smash up a drug factory. Not to mention the long-awaited ability to throw some punk head-first through those crates, or break a forklift with his rear end!(Wishful thinking, I know.)
-
Er, since the OP is in fact giving credit and citing source, I think it's okay just this once.
That it's a repeat of another thread is more troublesome. -

I bet there's some UBER SECRET spot the devs use just to be cool... like you talk to a fire hidrent or type in a certian command or something... like go into a telephone booth and type /superman or something... and it gives you XP for lvl 50 I swear game developers do this all the time, I know I would if i was a game developer...
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd actually agree with you, because after all that is what most if not all "cheat codes" are for, is for the devs to test their product. At least, so I've heard.
So likely as not, there IS a command to do just that. However, if there is, I'm guessing it's disabled for players. -
This event will rock. I have several characters who level painfully slowly since they're team-oriented and it's occasionally tough to find a team. It's perfect for them.
I mean, it's not like I don't KNOW how to build and play my characters. If I had my way about it, the two I'm particularly going to work on would go directly to level 32. I want all this "ground-laying" I'm doing to pay off sooner rather than later. -
Yeah, but first you'd have to prove he was guilty of arson. Intent is everything there.
Of course, intent is a VERY thorny issue.... -
If anything, Hero Corps, or perhaps some individual Hero, should have taken him under their wing and taught himhow to actually use his powers.
Heck, I feel sorry for the guy. A heartless justice system, overzealous and/or incompetent lawyers, an organization that turned either its back or a deaf ear or a blind eye, and no one willing to step up and act as a mentor. His only sympathizer was a judge whose hands were tied.
Of course, people also died, so SOME punishment should have been meted out. In this case, I'm agreeing with EG that some years in a YDC might have been in order.
Sad though. Kinda gets ya right here. -

It is always amusing to see the reactions of those who have never before seen a Neko_Lurker post. His/her posts always require a bit of mental translation. -
For the few days I had Smoke Grenade on my AR/Devices, I would swear on a stack of Bibles and Korans and, I dunno, Necronomicons...anyway, I'd swear that not only did SG not debuff anything, but it drew aggro once they saw you. I teamed a lot during that time, mostly facing Trolls, and I can promise that every Troll in the spawn, once aggroed would turn and throw rocks at me and only me, even if I hadn't attacked at all. It was not perception, it happened, and over and over.
Mind you, this was on Test, and it was several issues ago...right after the original SG fix (which btw I never got to actually exploit, damnit). However, the bitter taste of that, combined with the nigh-useless debuff, has caused me to ignore SG ever since. There are so many other powers I can take which are more useful, why waste time with situational powers?
Ahem. My problem with Night Widows may seem a little petty, but it is mine: I dislike the idea of an enemy requiring certain inspirations or certain powers, in order to do anything against them. How many yellows am I supposed to carry in a large-team mission, and what's the target number of times that I'm required to leave the mission to go restock? Or, alternatively, if I should happen to wind up on a team without someone using Tactics...what member of the team should give up their spot so we can find that person? It all rubs me the wrong way, and smacks of [censored] other MMOs have pulled.
Academic and aesthetic senses aside, as long as my Singularity or henches or teammates can see them, then whatever. -

I want to thank everyone that showed up to our After-E3 Player Meetup at Howie's. It was a really fun time and I enjoyed meeting everyone. We definitely had a good cross-section of players from all of our games!
Yes, I'm a guy. And yes, I am an Illusion Controller. It's really helpful when I have to write the budget.

Dangit, SOMEBODY has to quote him, so here I am.
All the people in the pics look...a lot different than I thought they would. Yeah, really, you just can't tell by a voice (even written), ain't that the truth.
Thanks for the pics and info Obsidius! Thanks to Jester as well, once the page actually loads. It's taking its time. -

. The "Hero" showed up as a red conning boss class mob. I forget her name but it was a flying, energy blaster type with a goofy helmet and the big robotic forearm gloves. She wasn't too terribly difficult.

This one? Sorry, not the best picture. Pulsewave? Blastwave? Something like that. Yeah, she showed as a Lt in my mission, and got held and pwnt. -
[ QUOTE ]
I've hated bank missions for more reasons than the unholy numbers of people running around, I'd really appreciate if our henchmen could now draw ambush aggro off of us.
[/ QUOTE ]
As far as I can tell, ambushes still absolutely ignore hench aggro. I went through a Mayhem mission with my MM last night, and ambushers are still utterly focused on you and only you. Hell, at this point I can exploit that single-mindedness: drop a Tar Patch, run around the corner, tell my gang to Attack My Target. Longbow and guards will run slowly through the patch, trying to get around that corner to me, and will just get owned without firing a shot. It's sort of pathetic.
And hey TwilightSinger, you're not the only one who gets the mega-ambushes. Every Mayhem I've done, I've gotten flooded with 10+ enemies at once, and it's often in the actual bank mission, so a Hero is included. I was not running from them, or herding them, nor was I setting off those pawnshop alarms. The ambush last night was 11 strong, unless my counting ability has been stealth-nerfed.And that's just the PPD...there were three Longbow in there as well. That particular shot was taken in a store that did NOT have cameras or red beams.
Mind you, I've never come close to dying from these big ambushes. My Dom installs her Singularity in a doorway and let it throw the guards around, and my MM drops a Tar Patch and a Darkest Night and spams heals. So I'm not actually complaining about them, just wondering if they're intended -
That would be rather ironic, that higher-level missions are much easier than mid-level ones.
Not to say that isn't the case, as it very well could be. -
Yeah, OP, I really need MORE excuse to spend time on this game.
Obviously, /signed. The BRB should NOT be destructible at all. It is infinite and immortal, and always reappears at its starting point if some wet blanket tries to hide it.
Hell, I already find myself playing "kick the forklift" or whatever after using Propel, so a BRB would be even better.
Hmm, I wonder what Primal's Crane Kick could do to the BRB if she slotted it with 3 KB and 3 recharge.... -
I find it interesting how many speak of these glue guns that debuff, fired by SWAT guys and...ghosts? Oh, I believe all of you about them, but I have to say I've NEVER seen them, in the 6 Mayhems I've done. Perhaps I was just lucky? Or is there another factor here?
All of these are on Villainous:
3 Mayhems on my 36 Dom, solo. Of those, 2 were newspapered in St Martial, 1 in Nerva. They all actually took place in Brickstown. Enemies were Psi-Cops and PPD Shell, plus a few scattered Crey, none of whom used glue; same enemies for all 3 missions. I got a Lt, named Hero at the end of all three, and he or she was a pushover every time...the only tough thing about them was the enormous pack they came with. These guards were all basic Security Guards and some Longbow, at least 10 of them each time, none of which used glue or any other debuff. Number of side-missions done varied, from 0 to all 4, and didn't change anything that I noticed. (Got a VERY nice Energy Torrent-ish power called Plasma Stream (45 uses) in the last mission.) Helpful Villain all three times was Hollowpoint (AR/Traps, very useful when he wasn't concentrating on Civillians).
First Mayhem for my level 6 Thugs/Dark, solo. Some generic PPD police, and Security Guards, none of whom had glue. Ending Hero was a Lt, and also spawned with 10+ followers. Rather tough with just two henches, but Tar Patch and Darkest Night did wonders. Did 2 sidequests, setting bombs and kidnapping; kidnap victim was an idiot, kept running around and getting stuck on objects, but finally came along. Interestingly, no other Villain was in the police station, so I remeined solo throughout (besides my Thugs).
Two more Mayhems on my MM, both on an 8-person team. For the first I was level 11, and the second I was 12 and had my Enforcer (they own with their cones, btw). Enemies in both were some rather Prohibition-era-looking Minion and Lt PPD, some flowery-shirt-wearing "Undercover" PPD (lol, Cryptic), and the occasional Boss PPD Captain (who we all agreed looked like a hotel doorman, lol). In the first mission, we did all 4 sidequests with no trouble, and I think we still got a Lt as a Hero in the bank, because they died in SECONDS. I didn't even see who it was, they died so quick. I never saw a friendly Villain helper at all, just like level 6.
In the second mission, it was a much different story, as the Longbow spawns were not only more frequent, but generally included a Warden or two, which hadn't happened in the first. The team got split up, and due to poor communication, some of them decided to charge the bank...and got owned trying to get out. I don't remember which Hero it was, as it wasn't one of the Signature ones (or even an also-ran like Valkyrie), but I did hear the distinct sound of Quills inside the bank. (I was standing outside, waiting for the rest of the team to assemble, as I had heard the ambush spawn had been enormous.) The fallen went to jail, and by the time they got out, we had less than 2 minutes left. Somebody had gone AFK, a Brute had DCd, and long story short...we failed the second. Also no Villain help at all.
No glue on the team missions at all, at least outside the bank, and no SWAT either. I never went in the bank, though.... -
I would love if that big pack of second-stringers in Gang War would rampage throughout the level, after helping with whatever enemy you used to summon them with. In other words, you summon them on a spawn, they assist in beating that enemy down, and then they tear off (as a group) against the nearest other spawn. The damage they do wouldn't be very good, and of course they'd be really weak, so they'd probably die against the next spawn without you there helping them. Or even with you there. They'd still fade out after the usual time.
Basically, you'd either have to hold off on using them until the big bad Boss at the end of the mission, or accept the potential mass of aggro they might generate and bring back. Thematically, it'd fit - sort of a "Unleash the dogs!"
It'd also have the handy side bonus of preparing you to team with that Brute who can generate Fury like mad, but uses NONE of their defenses.Seriously though, it'd be the basic equivalent of that, except you'd sacrifice a good attack chain for lots of needling-type damage.

Wasn't Gades one of the Sinistrals in the Lufia series? I seem to recall Tenryuu saying he was a fan of that series.
Of course, that's not to say Gades didn't get his name from some other source.
Yeah, Gades was a Sinistral. In Lufia 2, if you beat him in one round, you got his sword.
I think. Been awhile since I've had the SNES emulator.
