Just a general question, how does defence work exactly? i know the softcap is 45% because then everything will have 5% chance to hit you but my question is this.
If i have 10% melee, ranged and aoe defence, but i have 35% on smashing, lethal, fire, cold, energy,negative and psionic, would that mean i have 45% defence effectively?
My thinking is if i got hit by a ranged fire attack for instance, its technically ranged but its also fire so would the two defences stack? or is the lower stat useless? -

Sorry but thats [censored] theres hardly any players on that arent already vets coming in i asked my friends to see if anyone would play a free account i have, and none said they would even pay the sub on a dead game.

As was mentioned above in the other link, it seems american server transfer seems the best option, thinking il buy an account next payday.

I must say that the 'asking to join a team' is a trend of the last 6 months or so... It used to be "want to join my team?", maybe there in lies an answer?
People in a team are usually busy, the team is chatting/fighting so it's quite easy to loose track of a tell or two, or not taking the time to respond to them.

Good point there actually regarding the asking for teams, the thing is, not many people outside of farms ask for members unless they run down to about 4 people now. Also 6 months ago you put your tag to 'looking for team' and within 5 minutes you got an invite, ok usually a blind, but an invite is an invite, now you can run around all day, as i did yesterday and broadcast your level and lft, and hear nothing. I ended up soloing my entire way up to 32 because of a lack of a team.
Ignorant people playing as in people who refuse to reply to tells, or believe your out of there level range because your -2 levels. Yes i know theres a good chance there just afk, but last week i bound this 'Hi $target, im a level (cant remember level at time) any chance of an invite to your team please?'
This was sent to the entire list that was teamed within my level range, and i only received one reply saying 'full' which is fair enough he took the time to reply but out of the 17 in my level range one reply? come on... not all afk. -

The game would benefit much more from a merge, especially on villains.
Im not saying its impossible to get a team, im just saying one team for every 10 levels is kind of pathetic for a mmorpg. Any game that is going to survive needs players coming in constantly, and theres not many doing that until the new issues come out and then not many stay. -

Can you say why not though? other than just NO? Not needed if you play at 50 thats true, but have you tried leveling an alt without a farm lately?

Just a relevant reply to this, my brother who does not play, just walked past and said

Playing city of heroes or city of villains on union at the minute seems tough to get a team at any level besides 40-50, i logged on today, 12 midday and one team going between 1-20 on villains, switch to heroes one team going 1-10 (3 members) nothing going level 10-20.
Logged on Villains again 6pm, one team going between 1-20 (6 members) two teams on heroes (one full one 3 members)
I could list all my alts findings on different times but it seems theres only ever a chance of a half decent team if your a farmer, between level 40-50, or happen to be on at right time to get in that one team.
Also there seems to be a giant increase in the lack of ignorance when asking to join a team, a lot of the time people dont even bother to reply anymore.
So my solution is, merge european servers into one big server? I understand there will be a lot of competition for names etc, but it could go on a first come first serve basis much like the RF online server merge.
Or even possibly why stop there? why not join european servers to the american version of the game and have the dev teams join together?
These are just a few ideas of course but the reason i chose to name level 1-20 is because it isnt going to look very enticing to new players seeing half dead servers and ignorant people playing, even if they are only on trial accounts.
It doesnt just apply to these levels i have looked right through the spectrum, there most commonly seems to be either one team or a full team and a small team. In a team based game you need players which just arent there unless your higher level.
General comments to this especially any red names would be greatly appreciated. -
Its all good and well saying spread the debuffs around but it takes time to do i that way when you could be doing other things, and most of the time, the mob dies before you get all the debuffs active anyway.

It's fine as long as you don't combine it with /devices, which is a great shame because they gel together perfectly conceptually. I got my AR/Dev to 50 just before ED made it so boring to play I stopped bothering with it. Since then the inventions system has helped a bit but it still lacks the accuracy/damage of other blasters. Something that a handful of caltrops doesn't really make up for...

It's odd 2008 (see sig) is an AR/Dev Blaster and having played him throug to 50 (started new years eve 2007 finished March 2008) I always find myself wishing I had the targeting drone on other builds. The accuracy it gives means you can still hit a triple vengenced Nemisis boss with a 95% chance of a hit, yes you've not got the damage bonus of other blaster secondaries, but you will hit. To my mind I'd rather hit and do less damage than miss and maybe have done more.
Of the other Dev powers though some really really suck (time bomb for one) others are very sitautional, use stealth to plant a mine near a target back up, lay another mine, backup lay another mine, back up drop caltrops and snipe target. very powerful as they run through the mines and a hail of bullets and the slow to a crawl through the caltrops, but useless in a team as they'll never wait long enough

This is what i originally figured was good, but after building an AR/devices blaster to 50 it was that poor compared to other blasters i couldnt play it.
All my damage seemed to come from devices mines being planted before a fight, the AR set has some nice AOEs but flamethrower and full auto are your best damage, unless you can hold or immob someone to get ignite on, but these have really long animation times and the time you have finished firing full auto if your under assualt, your already dead.
My verdict: devices is fine, AR needs sorting out. -

The only thing about the cyborg shield chest detail is that it's hugely sticking out in front on females. so much that when they cross their arms the hands disappear into it.
The other chest detail looks fine, I just happen to like the shield better; entirely in white this cyborg kit is one shiny galore, very much up to my alley.
I love the emotes too, so with everything together I rate it a 4/5 due to the clipping with the shield test detail.

It's my professional opinion, as someone who writes software for a living, that it was a mistake to release this pack with said bugs. They really don't instill confidence in future booster packs, especially as the wedding pack was ALSO buggy.
These are not issue updates, they're pure eye candy. There is ZERO reason to release them until they work properly. You'd think NC would have learned this by now...

The thing im most anxious to know if how they will stop the bug that doesnt actually kill you, as you said with the +hp bug, but theres also the thing that you cant die in one hit by any attack, so if you use the power on full hp, nothing attacking you, you wont die but cant res either, you need to relog.
The best solution i can think of is get the attack to deal like 2 ticks of unresistable damage at like 3000 or something. -

Plus you have to wait 10 seconds between clicking it and it exploding - I doubt any mob that'd be troubled by the 500 odd damage it'll inflict will still be around after those 10 seconds are up.

To me this pack seems rushed because it was leaked, theres a fair few bugs with it already. I know the information about it was leaked so they released it early but is that a reason to sell a half done product? Im praying it doesnt become common now like the server disconnections and lost mapservers since i12.
But the main reason for this post is: give everyone who buys cyborg pack a nuke? come on.. what were you thinking???
not only does it give anyone in a team with a healer a chance to nuke now, and be brought straight back to life, it also makes tanks, scrappers, brutes and stalkers a lot more powerful, yes it kills them, but self res straight after and your nothing worse off besides maybe a little debt.
Yes it can only be used once an hour but still it seems like its devalueing damaging ATs a bit by releasing a nuke for all.
All i can hope for is they dont go the same way SOE did and think about just money now and make addon after addon charging each time and making grossly overpowered things coming with them.
OK costumes, travel powers, auras and emotes are one thing, but making attacks buyable is the complete wrong way to go even if you do put a long recharge on it.
Please fix game breaking things like server disconnections and lost mapservers every two minutes before releasing bugged pay to use content otherwise there will be a lot more players leaving the already half dead servers. -
A good idea i use when naming stuff is you take one word related to your powers, rather than your costume as its easier to name from that i find, unless you have a specific idea in mind.
For instance a Fire/Fire blaster, i use thesaurus.com and type in fire. These are results:
flammable, igneous, ignescent, incendiary, inflammable, pyrogenic, pyrophoric,
Also another few words similar are flame, pyro. hell (you know... its hot), barbacue, burn, hot, toasted
Then theres two ways to go from here, first of all you could just pick a random name you like, such as i dunno Mark or something lol, the put one of the other words in front, so you end up with something like Flammable Mark.
The other way is instead of using a name, just use another word you find nice, i tend to use Star in my names because i find it a pretty word, so from that you end up with Flamestar, or Starflame (both these two likely to already be taken so not really a good example but you should get my point)
Also another tip is with some words you can change the ending slightly, for instance Incendrio rather than Incendry
So this being said a few fire names I like but havent tested would be (plus the ones ive mentioned):
Scorchion
Blazeon
Igneousia (female version)
Igneousian (male version)
Pyrostar
Pyrocrash
Flameguard
The Flaming Falcon
The Burning Bunny
Basically if you think that way i think it becomes very easy to get a decent sounding name. -

sorry guys forgot to mention im on xp pro, vista is pointless lol.
I set up port forwarding on Vuze, formerly azureus and i dont know why but now the lag has sorted itself out. I load in under 10 secs now, so it was definately something to do with what was changed.
Since i posted i set up a static IP address could that have been it?
I know my router doesnt have NAT enabled when i got it, i turned it on but still got really bad download rates and stuff turns out i had to follow this port forwarding thing. -
In comment to brutes though, they are the one opponent other than MM's i hate coming up against in PvP just because it takes so damn long to kill them.
A well played brute can match almost any charecter i think in all honesty. It depends on how its played but they definately dont succeed well against ranged charecters in PvP because of there Inherant ability.
Your never really in combat long enough to gain enough fury to do any major damage with a well played charecter. This being said a brute vs a tanker that stands still, a brute would win every time because of Fury alone.
There just not built right for it. -
I think the issue with melee vs range isnt going to be sorted easily in this.
The speed of the combat is too fast paced to get a sustained attack on any ranged target if they move around, however that being said /follow with a melee charecter on a target is your best friend. -
Also i have all the latest drivers so that is not the issue and i still rubber band with lowest settings to same amount as i do on high setting

I have no idea what this does but i have been disconnecting a lot from the game recently, i was told to set up a DMZ by a friend to test see if its better, but i have no idea what one is.
Ive got onto my routers page and found the option for DMZ set up but what do i do from here please? Reason i ask is because i tried to set up port forwarding and i was told CoH and CoV have too many ports for my router to support or something.
Either way its been a pain to set up so far, so can someone please point me in the right direction?
I have a p4 4ghz duel core with 1gb RAM and a geforce 8400gt 3d card but im still taking ages to load on certain things and i rubber band a fair bit, im almost certain this is connection and not my lack of memory because its fine on offline games at the minute, but as soon as i hit play online it lags a lot.
Any help greatly appreciated, just please explain well as im not the smartest of people lol.
