  1. Because this game is super easy?

Thanks for letting my new Brute come along on a few missions with your guys, was fun

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know, for a long time, our fire/rad based team was grabbing random fourths. There's some funny math that goes on with 7 and 8 people. The "team size" modifier for 7 is 2.2, so 2.2/7 = 0.31, rounded a smidge. The team modifier for 8 is 2.5, so 2.5/8 = 0.31, rounded a smidge. In short, the 8th member is free. And you get bigger/better spawns, which on a well-run superteam is a bonus.

Anyhow, I remember broadcasting in Atlas something like: "Uber steamrolling super team looking for one member. You can sit back and soak massive xp; must have no more than 3 month vet badge."

So we were hoping we'd get a newb who had never seen anything like it.
  3. Heh. I still haven't logged in either character. This should be fairly amusing.

Except you can get full benefit of most (all?) of those purples, but you can only make use of the first 5 LotG.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Rumor has it the 5 bonus rule does not apply to LotG +7.5% bonuses. I have yet to test.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The non-obvious behavior you're thinking of is that the LotG +7.5% bonuses are separate from the sets that give 7.5% +recharge. They both obey the rule of 5, but you can have five of each.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, I've heard that also. In fact, I believe I've actually tested that behavior. What I need to test is that 6*LotG is possible.
  5. Not bad. I approve that msg.

    (1) Don't take a low level pool you don't want
    (2) Travel fast at 6

    Both seriously badass rewards.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
    Who told you that?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It came up in the forums, and someone asserted they had tested it. Since it is an extraordinary claim, I present it as a rumor; it's been on my list to test, but I've barely logged on for a month, so I haven't yet.

So along these lines of thinking I am seeing from a few in here. If i play my bs/sr the most and its the toon I play the most and and I want to make a chest thumping build, it would be super awesome if I slotted 14 lotgs just to show off. In the end that would be about as cost effective and make almost as much sense as slotting 8 full sets of purples.

*most* fights we could win against +6s also, but it was dramatically slower and completely unworth it. (In fact, since XP gains cap at +5, it is certainly unworth it!)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are you sure about that? Certainly if the level spread of the TEAM is more than 5, you have a problem, but I was under the impression that someone facing +6 enemies would get more XP than if they were facing +5's.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's fairly academic, since the falloff from +5 -> +6, at the moment, means you simply won't fight +6s.

But looking at Red Tomax's page:

    http://cov.redtomax.com/data/xp_division.php

it says "All enemies more than 5 levels above the player's combat level have a 2.0 multiplier."

And that was consistent with our experience, but I was only observing casually. +6s are roughly "twice as hard" to fight as +5s, as the "effectiveness of powers" goes from 30% to 15%, and your base tohit falls from .30 to .20.

Because we had 7xTactics, we didn't have a problem *hitting* +6s, it's just that even with 7x accel meta on us, hasten, and 5+ stacks of RI/EF, our damage made the fight very slow at best, and against tough enemies, actually dangerous.

And this is a team that would burn down +4s so fast that after putting up EF, I probably barely had time to tag a boss with the nem staff before everything was dead. It was customary for +4 minions to die before everyone could even fire off fire cages. We'd just teleport from group to group if we could. With just 7 of us, we beat Recluse and Scorpion simultaneously in RV, while fighting off several players. (Fortunately, no one had tp foe, because that definitely would have wrecked us.)
  9. Good times. When we formed up a f/rad team, which was 5x Fire/Rad Con, 1x Ill/rad, 1x Fire/Son, 1xFire/FF, we were able to handle +5s from very low levels, and our standard MO from Positron on up was to try to engage a TF as soon as possible, and keep it at the level it spawned +4s/+5s (effectively invincible + 2).

*most* fights we could win against +6s also, but it was dramatically slower and completely unworth it. (In fact, since XP gains cap at +5, it is certainly unworth it!)

To call the levelling insane would be an understatement. I think even after spending one whole 2 hour session slaughtering villains and AVs alike (at the same time) in RV, we still hit 50 in ~45 hrs.

Average means something. You should look up what average means.

    [/ QUOTE ]

"Average" has been deprecated in favor of "mean", "median", and "mode".
  11. I'll pop on a couple times to try to find you. I've been a bit busy with other things and have been on ~0 since that ITF I ran with you a couple weeks ago, but it's easy enough to pop on periodically to see if you're around to collect.
  12. I'm going to double up. Put me in for 2 slots at 500M instead of 1. I have more builds I want to experiment with than time to play them atm.

Edit: Weird, okay, I already mentioned this once before. I posted against because after looking at the list, I thought I hadn't, but yeah - I'm going to bid on two slots.
  13. I've been pondering this, and I think I can make use of an extra 50 on my other account, so I'm going to double up and make it 2x500M. Sorry, Strawberry.

    Mac Open Beta

    Yay macs. <3 MBP.
  15. Also, I bid 500M, because I liked being on top of the list.
  16. <qr>

I'd just like to point out that the only people who have crossed "the line", are the devs, who offer respecs in game, and on market, and also sell them for $10.
  17. Okay. Assuming this is Virtue and the base bids are influence, and this is for a villain to 50, I will bid 250M.
  18. Have you decided for sure which server this is on?

I have no interest in Justice, and no interest in transferring a character.

If this ends up being on Virtue, I'm a likely bidder. Novel idea. I like.
  19. I'd like to see Positron interviewed about I15 instead pls.

Funny thing.. the fact that no Mac-Native-Client was around was one of the few things keeping me on Windoze machines. I think I just might officially migrate now.

    Maybe.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It is tempting. I have an XP machine at home that I literally do nothing but play games on. (I mean, maybe browse, but no work/business stuff of any kind)

I do all my work on a dual-headed Linux box, or my MacBook Pro. I am seriously eager to leave windows behind forever though, although I do still play a lot of classic games... but I could see keeping one copy of XP around for classic gaming and never adding windows to anything again.

This is what i want to know. A friend of mine plays COH in her Mac through Bootcamp and she's dealing with crash issues. Will she have to rebuy the game to get the Mac version or can she just download the mac client from her account page?

    [/ QUOTE ]

She can download the Mac client for free when it is released.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Zomg, native mac client? Sweet. Eat it, Microsoft.
  22. [ QUOTE ]

Yeah, "lolChampions", and also "lolDCUO", and lolanything else that proves innovative, dynamic, and fun. While I don't think any one of them in particular is going to "kill" CoH, I think each will chip away at noticeable chunks of the subscriber base. Once NCSoft starts seeing any decrease in profit margins, how long can it be before they panic and start forcing layoffs once again, dropping game development back to "life support" levels, or maybe even less?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Most MMOs are failures. City of Heroes is still here and still doing well 4.5 years in.

City of Heroes had an interesting thing happen, too, this quarter - it made more money than the last quarter. Revenues were up 6%. That was still down 10% from the previous year... but they were up. That bodes well for CoH development, because it means NCSoft is seeing ROI on their expenditures. It looks like CoH is taking in about $1.6M/month right now, give or take some fudge because the South Korean won has been fluctuating a lot. That's enough to be pretty darn profitable. Even in Northern California, I think they could field a staff of 40, an office, and a server farm of 110 boxes or so and still be carrying 25% of that to the bottom line.

But most importantly, if revenues are rising, they will continue to put money into it... not only because it increases revenues, but because it will stretch that revenue stream further when they do stop developing. There may be revitalized plans for another retail box, someone optioned the IP for a movie, etc.

With things like Architect on the horizon, it's definitely to early to predict where CoH goes from here. But those other MMOs still have to prove themselves. And I hope they're great, because I'd be glad to have more great games to choose from, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
  23. I seriously hope you retemplate it. The vbulletin templates putting gaps between each post are obnoxious. I also hope it tracks read/unread well. It's one thing UBB does that I've never seen any other forum software do even remotely as well.
  24. I'd just like to kick out a big "hellz yeah" over the usable-at-L1 thing. Nice.

    Issue 13 Update

    [ QUOTE ]

I know the whole "CC Fraud" part would be more complicated, but maybe putting a 24-48 hour delay to claim any codes after the first one could be implemented. That gives the CC company time to notify the card holder. Or maybe put instructions on the site how to request from the CC companies to allow the transations to go through. That would be similar to informing them you will be traveling out of the country and to allow transactions in certain areas (not flagging for possible fraud).

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's very typical as the merchant to not be notified that a purchase from you was fraudulent for well over 30 days.
