Pep_Rally

Well, I got to fool around in Photoshop Elements some today, and it's gonna take some getting used to. I think I'm starting to figure out some things, but it's just gonna take time and practice I guess.

I tried using the Lasso tool to do some of the inking, but I'm going to have to do some experimenting. Thanks to PMD for pointing out that digital inking tutorial in that other thread.

But instead, I just tried to do it free hand to start so I could get used to the tablet and pen, and using layers. Here's my first attempt at digital inking.

I'm still trying to get the feel for using the pressure of the pen for line thickness, and not being able to rotate the page so I can use my hand at the right angle to get good curves is gonna take some getting used to as well.

Does anybody know what the differences are between regular Photoshop and Photoshop Elements? There was this path tool that I saw to make curves, that I haven't been able to find in PSE. The lasso keeps having to be a closed loop, but I'd like to use the brush option with just a curved line that ends without going back to the beginning. Is this possible?

All in all, I don't think it's too too bad for a first attempt.

Any advice, about how I can improve my inking would be appreciated.

That really bites, Graver. Here's hoping you can find a way to fix it without too much trouble. I'm glad to see you doing some artwork for my fellow championite, and tentative ally.

Precedence means that they come first.
For example, Thorlactus asked me for a sketch before SPADE did, so I would draw Thorlactus first, but if SPADE did a trade with me, then SPADE would jump over Thorlactus, and I'd draw SPADE first.

I'd love to do a trade. Spade for Pep Rally. Peps pics and bio are a few pages back in this thread. I'd need Spade's bio, powersets, personality,etc. if I was to draw him

Thanks for the compliment, but Im not that good. Okay maybe, but not amazing.
I'll try to get around to him eventually, but trades take precedence, and I have a few of those still in the works, plus some SG mates, and Thorlactus of course.

Okay, I did a little more on hte sketch today. I added the celtic knots(uggh tedium), changed the sword blade near the hilt, and tried to add a background. I haven't done very many backgrounds before, so I hope it came out okay.
My plan is to try to make the clouds as orange as I can from the sun, the sky as white as I can make it while still looking like a sky, and the grass green, so even the background would kinda look like the Irish flag.

How does that sound? Any critiques welcome.

and oh yeah, the reason the scabbarb is so small is because of the sword is magical, and can be any size from a dagger to a two handed sword.

Does this sword look any better?

I tried to clean up some other stuff, too, but I wasn't able to do much on it last night because the Teen Squadron kidnapped me and forced me to have fun playing CoH. It was horrible!

Well, other than the Dresdon Dolls "Yes, Virginia", The Epoxies "Stop the future", and the new The Faint cd which I bought like 2 month ago, and the many college stations that are around Boston, I've kinda been in a retro mood, lately. I dug out my old Pearl Jam, Weezer, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Muffs, and Nirvana cds.

After that, i went even further back in the way back machine, and found my Suicidal Tendencies "Lights, camera,..Revolution" cd which I am currently listening to, as I write this.

Thanks for noticing, Geno! I did try to give the sword a diamond shaped cross-section. I think the problem is the hilt isn't angled enough like alot of people pointed out. I tried to angle it, but not enough I guess. The bottom part should be smaller and more angled away, while the opposite for the top half I think.

I also think the handle may be too thick for Lass to hold as it is now. I may need to make it thinner.

As for having a scabbard, it would be really awkward to have one with the cape. I think I might give her a small waist scabbard, since Slicey O'Sword is magic, and can be any size from a dagger to the big two handed version shown ala Lion-O from Thundercats. huzzah!! Well, I had some time today, so I figured I'd be selfish, and actually make a sketch of one of my toons for once. I decided on my BS/SR Irish Lass . Here's the rough sketch .
I still need to add all the celtic knots, and I think this might be my first attempt at coloring with photoshop elements and my tablet.
So, before I go any further, please let me know what you guys think.

I'm soooo jealous.
I've been a fan of Fred's from his very first Gold Digger miniseries from AP. I really liked how he just penciled that one, and I love his humor. I stopped getting comics altogether around 1995 for financial reasons, but lately I've been starting to get some again. I may have to pick up the GD series DVD to catch up, plus I can't believe he made a GD animation OVA BY HIMSELF!!

Thanks for the replies. Good and Bad. They are very helpful.

I think Starchasm is right that the foot needs to be bigger. I just wasn't sure how big to make it since it needed to be smaller because I foreshortened the leg to make it look like it was angling away from the viewer.

As for the eyes, I think part of the problem is I made her hair too big, which makes the eyes look lower. Add to that, that she is looking downwards so you see some of the top of her head, and I tried to make her eyes wide open like she's really REALLY excited to see the ZF-1.
I also tried to make dark ring marks around her eyes where her goggles were pressing against her face.
I guess I failed to accomplish what I tried to do.

I might try to correct some of the mistakes this wekend if i find the time.

Well, I checked under the couch in my living room, and I found some spare time under the cushion, so I decided to try to get back in the groove, and finally got something resembling Square Woot to complete our trade.

Please let me know if anything seems majorly off. I'm kinda worried about her right leg. The perspective kinda threw me for a loop. Her leg is supposed to be angled back and to her right with a slight bend in it.

Once again I bow to one of the coolest artists around. It's so awesome, it's almost as good as your Pep Rally piece. It's THAT good.
The only thing that seems a little off to me is Radey's upper lip. To me, it seems the indentation should maybe start a little more to her right and not dip so far down. I really don't know how else to describe what I mean.

So was Dragonberry really the love child of Radey and edge?
