I THINK Rebirth is the only power that effects only an ally. Everything else is AoE or PBAoE, though I am not positive about Wild Growth. So drop the patch on top of yourself.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly-

Quote:Er, I auto-completed it...I gave up on it, after going back and looking at it again. My view, the thing is a wart on the face of playing through the Night Ward segment. Just totally took me out of all feeling of immersion and having to focus on every little stat, power use, inspiration rationing, etc, etc. Doesn't add a single thing to the experience of Night Ward at all. It is just a long grind fest, unable to auto-complete, dealing with that hedge maze's numerous impacts on moving, the zerging mob spawns, and ends in a overpowered encounter with EBs. It isn't a challenge in a recreational game at that point, it is pointless and aggravating over done filler content of an overly ambitious mission design. Maybe if I one day find a group with an hour and a half to kill, I'll try it again just to get the Ward story arc done.

Quote:I actually put fourth the idea of a SWAT mastermind set in basically this vein before, but it never took. But I agree, we need the basics out there! Let me play a Commissioner Gordon type character! Two others I'm somewhat suprised we haven't seen for Masterminds: generic Cops and generic Robbers.
Thugs is great, but really specific. Same with Ninjas (and that Oni just... ugh).
Plants as a Mastermind set might work.
Shotguns, ala Punisher. Single Pistols. Proliferate Munitions to Masterminds already. -
Yeah, I hated that mission. It didn't help that I got halfway through it once and had a power outage so I had to restart it, but then I claw my way through the entire thing solo ((With pauses where I had to figure out WHERE the mobs who had just run away got to)) and get to the final trio of bosses...yes, trio. 0/+2 ((Or 3, I can't remember for sure)) and I got three elite bosses. I took a deep breath. I had beaten two elite bosses before. I might eat floor a few times, but I had an NPC ally, right? Surely I could do this. Course you then find out that Ward isn't exactly tough. It also really didn't help that these bosses REALLY HATE MASTERMIND MINIONS. I think their entire existence is based around wiping out as many minions in as short a time as possible.
BUT! That's what auto-complete is there for. You do get the group warning, and you should know that any time you get that, there may be a good chance you can't complete whatever mission it is solo. So while the mission should PROBABLY be changed to not just be the auto-complete fodder, the warning itself is fine. -
C'mon now, keep it friendly everyone.
Personally I prefer minions/pet sets, and only three archtypes really provide those, and one is the master of said tool. I still enjoy controllers/dominators of course ((And yes, I am working on a crabstermind)) but they can't really compete.
That being said, I think the archtype can have a lot to do with it. But more or less, if you enjoy a powerset in one archtype, you're going to enjoy it in another. If you enjoy a COMBINATION of powersets in one archtype, then you may not find the same experience in another archtype. Least thats my wager. -
By hyping up features in your game that you have included, but not really to the extent at which you are saying. I won't mention any specifics, but I know of one particular offline game where one of the Devs does nothing but spouts about how you'll have nothing but massive amounts of exploration and freedom and choices, but how it was really just a bit bigger then the second game in the series and had been dumbed down to extreme levels.
That being said? Some people tend to take what is said and blast it WAY out of proportion. So something as simple as "You'll be able to explore." Can be turned into "YOU CAN EXPLORE ALL THE THINGS!!!" And uh, usually is by some people. Who then spread it around as fact. -

Quote:That...just sounds godawful stupid. It explained why Peter and Mary Jane never got married. Again written by that talentless [censored]-hat, Joe Quesada. To me it was also a way to give Marvel editorial a very stupid way to say Spidey never made a deal with the devil to the fans that got upset, rightfully so, over Peter making the Devil's deal in One More Day. That OMIT (One Moment In Time) is how things really went down. Also the first part of OMIT pretty much implies that MJ was the one who made the deal with Mephisto, that since Peter would never make a deal with the Devil she can convince him to do so.
In a nutshell Peter gets knocked unconscious when a escaped Electro lackey falls on top of his head, and causes him miss his wedding with MJ. This causes MJ to rethink whether it's a good idea or not to marry Peter, and puts the whole thing on hold. Most of it is forgettable due to Quesada's horrible writing. Civil War happens, Aunt May gets shot, Peter and MJ are again terrorized by the Electro lackey but this time he works for the Kingpin. So after putting him down, Pete goes to Dr. Strange and this time instead of doing what he did in OMD. Strange agrees to help Pete out, going to Tony Stark and Reed Richards in astral form and some how they manage to find a way to erase the fact that Peter revealed that he was Spider-Man to the world. Also before the spell completes Peter drags an unconscious MJ into the protective circle so she's unaffected by the memory wipe spell, but when she regains unconsciousness she's upset that Peter would do something like this to her, and offically breaks up and leaves Peter. End flashback, Peter and MJ sharing drinks in her apartment and both agree to just remain friends. Overall don't bother, it's bad, it's not worth it, and if anything it just makes me want to smash Quesada's hands so he can never write again. -
Quote:Pht, now I want to do this. I'd be way to tempted to yell "SHORYUKEN!" though.Rather excited about this. When Dual Pistols originally came out I got the idea for a character who steals experimental technology which allows her to break the physics of time, based on the sort of (extremely) unrealistic animations dual pistols has. I had originally paired her up with Kinetics from the Corruptor secondary, but many of the powers felt off from the concept. Martial Combat, however, looks to be exactly what I had in mind for a sort of techno-gun-fu-thief-master.
For dominators I'm thinking some kind of psychic martial artist. Not entirely sure yet. I love Dominators though, so any time they get something I'm willing to MAKE a concept to use it.
EDIT: I got to thinking of a sort of Ryu themed character who uses Energy/Martial. Burst of Speed paired with knock back sounds like a ridiculously fun way to control combat. Send a wave of energy to knock them all down, teleport in behind them and throw them forward again, and then end it with a nuke in their face. Fun times, to be sure. -
Welcome to the Mastermind! We are pleased to have you.
Between dark and time? Depends on what you are looking for. Dark gives a lot of -tohit, while time offers better buffs and heals. Dark also has Fluffy, or the Dark Servant to serve as a second debuffer/healer. It also has the bonus of being fairly easily permable.
Personally, I prefer time over dark, but both will get the job done.
Quick Edit: Bots/traps or Bots/FF both offer a huge amount of survivablity for your pets. But it might be a good idea to pair up the overly squishy ninja's with one of the above sets to improve their paper thin defense. -
Quote:Heh, very sound advice my friend.Sometimes arguing with someone can be productive, even if there is no chance at winning the "argument" if only so other expectations get to read some logical thought and realize somebody is full of it.
However, sometimes, it's so obvious to everyone that individual is just full of helium that the best approach is to entirely ignore them [and add them to ignore list] and not fuel their lazy rants. -
I am a little dubious about this. Three seems a bit excessive. But I think, as has been pointed out, they'll put more then just what was in the Hobbit into the movies. Which I would not complain about at all.
Besides, Peter Jackson has earned some credit with me. I am not to worried about it. -
Quote:You have this weird attitude that since the devs aren't changing the game to your specifications, that somehow means they are bad.I had no idea, was oblivious to that at the time. Probably wasn't subscribed. I find it completely believeable that there was an argument over it.
More evidence that the devs are bad, I guess. The idea that you'd write off a game system change because it's been set in stone for years is one of the core issues afflicting the dev community.
Fear of nerfing to bring your game into balance because of player response? Says a lot about the dev community. -
You've got quite the ego, don't you? Keep in mind that we aren't talking about you, and what you are capable of. We are talking about some one ELSE. And that some one else, no offense intended to them, may not have your vast experience or know how.
-
I'm not going to quote that, but here's a reality check for you: Those 4/8's are you alone. You aren't competing to get off shots, you aren't sharing damage with some one else. In the same length of time it takes you to go through a group, an actual blaster/brute/what have you will have gone through two, or three. So no, you are NOT going to be adding all that much damage when you are in an ACTUAL TEAM. Support we masterminds are better off its true, but we are STILL SUBPAR. Our powers are purposefully struck down from regular support powers; Half range, less healing, less damage in those cases, what have you.
In summation, big difference in soloing and in being in a group and doing what have you task forces with other people.
Edit: What I have said, by the way, does not make what you have done any less impressive. -
Quote:The question was, would it be viable for team play or just an XP leech. The answer is no. Is it capable of +4/8? Sure, but its still going to suck like mad in any sort of team enviroment. Just because it can manage +4/8, doesn't mean its going to be able to meaningfully contribute in a team enviroment outside of its still subpar support powers.I thought the question was could it be done, not if it is a good idea. Obviously it can be done, and if the op wants some advice on how to do it rather than everyone saying what a bad idea it is, I recommend they speak to plainguy. I imagine he will poke his head in shortly.
-
Not at all. Well it can be done, but it's never going to be anything more then the most gimped at everything. If you want to do it for theme though then go ahead, but don't expect it to actually be good.
-
I never feel like the devs are talking down to people, which is a nice switch from a certain other MMO. Even if they can't actually make suggested changes, they aren't rude about it. And I do feel like they actually LISTEN to their players, as opposed to pretending like they do, and then only implimenting player-asked for things to pull their bacon out of the fire.
-
I think that...pretty much ends it. I like knowing what works best for each character, and the best way to do that is with constant hands on experience, seeing what works in what situations and what doesn't. Sure you can get that via powerleveling, but its just not the same level of exposure.
