I have to say, I'm still curious what they would have done for a Coralax EAT and just what the heck the idea behind the Blood of the Black Stream was (aside from it relating to Egypt, shapechanging and oil).
I also have to admit that I've always wondered just what they would have done to build an entire AT around the idea of flying and wings since that was the plan before they eventually developed the current wings for characters. -
Quote:See, now I thought they were more similar in the general silhouette than in the face, but then again it has been a couple years since I saw any of the Lord of the Rings films. And actually I thought the alien's ship and the Black Fortress had more in common than any of the other bits from the quote, just not visually like the others. Granted, it's still not a lot in common but they are both big space ships from alien invaders that more resemble land bound structure (a tower, a fortress) than a ship and bury themselves partially in the earth. The aliens have nothing in common with cave trolls, except for a slight similarity around the face.
The alien's ship and the Black Fortress share even fewer similarities than the aliens and cave trolls.
Mostly I took the line as an attempt to compare overly broad generalities to both 'hook' a reader so as to continue on to the full review as well as to convey the thought that the film itself is derivative and unoriginal. I don't exactly agree with that thought, but I do find the line quite funny. -
Not so much, no. But then again I've had fly on about half of my characters so far (which isn't nearly as many as some out there) and there are a few who never actually touch the ground if they don't have to. Seven years and some change of that and I've probably gotten the hang of not running into things.

Kids who's parents had more money than mine did anyway
I actually had a friend who's parents bought them an Atari Jaguar actually. I was generally torn between being jealous of his parents actually getting it for him and being confused over why he would have asked for it in the first place. -
Personally I tend to assume that everyone I 'meet' on the internet is some sort of strage gender-neutral person until I physically see them in real life. I've known far too many honestly effeminate guys, honestly 'masculine' (in conversational style at least) girls, guys pretending to be flirty girls to get free stuff, and girls pretending to be guys to 'fit in' to really trust either what anyone 'says' they are or to make assumptions based on how they 'act'.

See, I would have figured it was because the current mid 30's crowd was also the group that included the young kids with the old NES, the teens with the playstation, and the college kids playing EQ and such. Not because they finally discovered that 'new fangled' gaming device called the Wii. Though to be truthful I think that's more the early side of the mid 30's than not.

Plus if we ever get an Egypt zone we might just possibly see something about the Blood of the Black Stream. I'm fine with us not getting them as an EAT, but I'm still curious about them.

Quote:I actually kind of agree with the review itself which isn't really all that terribly negative and mostly boils down to, "It's a good rental." That bit there's just a line from the 'brief plot synopsis' bullet point of the review. And actually when you think about it it's actually a fairly decent one. I mean it's the actors for James Bond and Indiana Jones, the aliens do kind of look cave troll-ish, and their space ship does the same general 'thing' as the Black Fortress ... well not the whole disappear and reappear in different spots every morning thing but still.I just got back. I had no expectations, but I loved it. Very fun movie.
Ah, the Internet. Why be truthful when you can be pithy?
The review in case you're curious. -
So I just got back from seeing this myselfa little bit ago and I really don't have much to say about it other than to say it was decidedly average. If all you want from a movie when you leave the house is to see some things go boom then it's not going to disappoint you in the slightest.
I probably did it somewhat of a disservice though, since I got home from seeing The Tree of Life (which is just absoultely visually spectacular) then proceded directly to another theater to watch Cowboys & Aliens after a bite to eat. Watching a kind of bland movie after a good or fun movie is never a good idea.
That said, I did see a fantastic quote from a review of this after I got home.
Quote:See now that movie sounds fantastic.James Bond and Indiana Jones team up to fight cave trolls from Lord of the Rings who've come to Earth in the Black Fortress from Krull.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it was bad in the slightest, it was just very 'meh'. I'd give it 5 out of 10 were I to actually write a review of it. -
Quote:Yea, there was a bit of the new CoT concept art in the PC Gamer article this month. I can certainly see how they got to the recently seen costumes from it, bu the concept art looked much more 'druidy' for lack of a better word. The spikes looked kind of leafish and there was a green color scheme, and while it certainly was 'muscular' and cut off just a bit below the waist it did have something that looked kind of like it might be some Tsoo Sorceror robes. So yea, similar to the concept art, but still quite different. There's a problem with that...concept art is just that...something designed to communicate a concept or an idea. The finished product very rarely has a strong resemblance to the concept art.
Concept art is usually best kept as something to show after the fact, as kinda a "Oh that's cool!" thing and to appreciate the amazing artistic talent of our art team. The most helpful feedback comes on the implemented and executed product. -

Quote:As mentioned before, that's assuming that there's nothing else in the store that I want to get. It may unfortunately take me longer than two months to save up 800 points, even considering the fact that I'll be getting more points per month for being a tier 9 VIP player.... or be patient and use the "Thanks for being subscribed" stipend.
It wouldn't be a problem I imagine if I were more patient, but I'm not, and honestly I really don't mind giving Paragon Studios and NCSoft more money as long as they continue to provide nice quality content (VIP only, free and paid). -
Quote:I would imagine that at the most it only adds damage to beam weapon attacks. Sort of like how the different ammo types change things for the dual pistols set except you get additional effects if the enemy has the debuff on them.I guess the question is does the damage buff only apply to your attacks, or others as well.
That's just my thought anyway. -
It's not been in any real post anywhere by a dev, but it's there according to the folks attending the San Diego Comic-Con.
Apparently it's single-target focused and puts a DoT on an enemy. When you use a power in the set against an enemy that has the DoT applied your power has additional damage and effects.

Quote:If you pay the subscription and are a VIP you don't have to play on the VIP server. You can be a VIP and play on any of the regular servers no problem.I understand what they said, I was talking about the people who have already level 50's with those AT's, and decide not to play in the VIP server, what will happen to those toons?
If you do have a subscription and try to play a MM/Controller/VEAT/HEAT then there's no change.
If you are a premium account without enough vet time to have the MM/Controller unlocked or try to play a VEAT/HEAT then the character is locked out and you'd have to purchase access to the needed AT through the store through whichever mechanic they allow that (probably they'll let you purchase it from the store). The characters won't be deleted or anything, they just won't be playable until you unlock them.
If you're on a premium account with enough vet time to have the MM/Controller unlocked, then you're all set to unlock that character to play with.
They did actually go over this in one of their ustream chats the other week. Which admittedly makes it hard to easily find on the forums, but they still did go over the information. -
Quote:I'm reasonably sure it's just like regular voice-overs in other games and MMOs. They likely just hired some voice actors (or got Bob from accounting) to do some voice work for the new low level missions (or possibly just the new tutorial). Is there any more information how that will work? Especially from the technical perspective?
Because if they're planning to implement a way to link in-game dialogue with sound file resources, I'm imagining a giant player-driven voice acting supplementation.
And it looks glorious. -
Quote:Apparently yes, VIPs still have to buy some of them. They're still getting Time Manipulation included though at least.Do VIPs still have to buy new powersets?
Ideally, I'd like my current CoH expenditure (yearly sub plus purchase if any and all booster packs when they cone out) to not change, and I want everything that's available.
I kind of expect they're hoping even VIPs will end up paying more money under Freedom than they have in previous years. Though I also kind of hope that the point stipend they'll get will manage to take a bit of the edge off. I personally don't think saving up two months of your stipend for a powerset is all that bad (honestly, I'm ok with just straight-up buying a powerset for $10 if I'm interested in making a character who uses it to tell the trugh), but I'm sure others think differently. -
Quote:I don't know that it's a soft target exactly. Or at least I've not run into any dev comments indicating that. It's more of an educated guess on the player's part based on previous issue release timing.you mention october, i just got home from work and havent had time to sift, but is that the soft target for issue 21?
Personally I was thinking more a late September timing myself, but that's really close enough to October that it doesn't really matter much. -
So I just got back from the film. Overal I'll say it was a nice and effective origin story. The character interactions were good and I liked the characters themselves.
On the down side, once you get towards the end you end up with just a big jumble montage of action sequences without much grounding in the film or context and I think that's to the film's detriment. It's just cool scenes of fighting (look everyone, a giant tank) until you get to a fight on a train where the plot starts in again. I get that it was just a montage meant to show the passage of time leading up to the climax and showing the accomplishments of Captain America, but it just didn't work for me in that regard. It really felt somewhat separated from the rest of the film somehow.
Still though, that was just a small section of the movie and hardly enough of a reason to dislike it. I do have to wonder though at all the people who got up and left just as the credits started to roll. Have none of them seen any of the other Marvel movies before? Heck, not only was there a short scene at the end of the credits this time, but there was an actual trailer for next summer's The Avengers after that was done. -
Quote:Yea, when I first picked up the power back in beta I was all excited and ran off to hover up to the train in Atlas Park. My excitement about the flight pool then ceased until I leveled up and picked up the actual flight power.Yeah, let me edit that. The one who reported it said it was like Walk in that other powers grey out. I thought he meant it had the same speed. He's going to get the Real Numbers figure on it's flight speed tomorrow.
Although, I remember when Hover was practically Walk speed. -
Quote:Well ... since you mention Volcano, FIRE/ELEC is a very nice pairing. It also gives me an excuse to link to a fantastic picture of volcanic lightning. Thanks!
Would you say that FIRE/NRG is king now because BD DOES have a brother...Black Volcano. ;-) -
Quote:From what they said in the dev chat, most of the tier 'benefits' like inventions, MA, chat channels and MM/Controller unlocking only apply to premium accounts. They've been pretty adamant that nobody will be loosing access to anything once the game goes free to play ... as long as you're a VIP subscriber. So I have 36 months now (will have 40is by launch); this puts me in Tier 6. But Tier 7 is the "Access to Invention System" tier. Does that mean that I won't be able to use the invention system for another 8ish months? That can't be right, but that's how it looks unless parts of this tier thing don't apply to VIP accounts? According to the side-by-side, VIPs will have access to the invention system. Sorry if I'm being obtuse, but I just don't get it. Help!
So basically as long as you're a VIP you won't have to worry about it.
