So if you're a non-Korean who disapproves of NCSoft means you're a racist shouldn't the closing of an American studio be racist as well since it was Koreans taking away the jobs of Americans on the Friday before the national holiday of Labor Day (talk about cultural insensitivity)?
-
Their western income was what, 5% of their world wide total and CoH was ~45% of that, so while I doubt the western response to closing CoH had much to do with their stock dropping like a rock, the management decisions including and not limited to closing down CoH are much more likely a cause.
Closing CoH may be one of many millstones they hung around their own necks.
For the people concerned that SaveCoH is going to shutdown GW2 I'd recommend being more concerned about NCSoft shutting it down in their attempt to pull out of their stock nosedive if it continues as it is. -
If (very big if) someone picks up CoH and the details (or some semblance of details) of what happened comes out they could probably make the story "The MMO that Roared".

Quote:Just have a massive tax loophole that is only exploitable via the effects of relativistic speeds and the mobilizations of industry for beating the Russians to the moon or even beating Hitler will look like a lazy coffee break....the time issue would make it very impractical. We already have enough trouble just with Daylight Savings.
Wouldn't that be the UEPA? -
Quote:Delta IV rockets go about 17,000 mph which is about mach 22, a tad bit above mach 5.You nailed it, but of course, it's always possible they're wrong. It was once thought traveling above the speed of sound was impossible. Today the problem is more about how we can travel five times the speed of sound and not crash.
Just to add, the sliderule designed SR-71 did mach 3. -
Quote:It was ~190 earlier in the week and the cheapest displayed (is that display like the "best 5" or is there a volume threshold?) was 195 last night (total CO noob here so I may not have been getting all the prices). You can cash in Questionite for Zen and vice versa. Last I checked the going rate was something like 175 Q per.
I'm starting to think the surveys are all for alcoholic CEOs with expensive sports cars that live in a penthouse apartment in a major city. I've never gotten to a point where I got Zen instead of "we're sorry...". It is a good system (for PWE) since after spending a half hour of getting "we're sorry" half way into surveys I decide that spending real money is a better use of my time.
Quote:Regardless, of course, even with Sprint at level 1 if you're coming from here or CO you're not going to be happy about travel speed. It just won't compare. But that's true of most MMOs as compared to here.
To go further from SWtOR, is the Questionite refining daily limit per account or per character? -
Quote:I wasn't hating on Fansy. MishiiLove early in this crisis made the same type of mysterious/indirect/obfuscated claims of the game being saved. I'd never seen a Fansy post before. Now if you had made a post saying to chill out and wait for the Wolf the trolls would explode with glee and it'd be a lot more believable than some random seemingly incoherent post.So you know, if you want to believe Fansy, believe Fansy. I don't know if he's making this up, but I will say that even if he is, it's plausible enough that I wouldn't just dismiss it outright. If you don't want to believe Fansy, don't believe him. Or me either, I don't care. But these repeated accusations of raising "false hope" are complete rubbish. As someone wisely pointed out in another thread a long time ago, there is no such thing as false hope, only hope that doesn't come to fruition. Hope is never not worth having, though expectations may sometimes have to be tempered.
The two big troll threads seemed to be winding down and just in time a new source of hope pops up when the trolls were probably getting hungry.
Legit, troll, I don't really care since what ever is going to happen isn't going to happen out in the open on these forums, but what I was trying to say is if Fansy isn't a troll, they better be ready for trolls the likes of which even a superadine rave hasn't seen. At least the trolls seem to be staying out of the art threads. -
Quote:Those who live by the sword...I need a picture of someone face palming here.
1. Devs: We will do X stick around it's coming soon.
2. Devs: Well X is just too much trouble and it's not worth it.
Pick your X.
What I always find surprising isn't that people left the game but that they stayed.
So you still have yet to live up to your own [Citation Needed] standard. -
Quote:There's a difference between "For all" and "There exists".TBH I don't get kickstarter. The people with the project get funding, you get something that a carnie guessing game would be embarrassed to give out as a prize.
The kickstarters I've given money to all have the product I'm kickstarting as at least part of the "prize". -
One pretty good bet is that there is no Mod.

Quote:Do the ranged tank ATs (Glacier for example) count as "tanks" for the CO Tanker Tuesday or will it be for the more traditional melee types (like Behemoth)? After that, TT is moving to Champions Online.
More info will be going up on http://www.tankertuesday.com and on the Tanker Tuesday Steam group. -
Quote:Voting with our wallets (a very third party vote, sadly) is the only way to show our displeasure of NCSoft's actions. Money given to GW2 goes to NCSoft, so if we don't want NCSoft to get our money, GW2 can't have it either.TL;DR - stop trying to kill someone else's puppy, just because someone killed yours. It won't bring yours back. And you should know better than to wish that on other people.
Your puppy still has time to run away to an animal shelter before it gets sent off to a nice farm where it can run* just before a new shiny puppy arrives.

Quote:For example, the people I usually played CoH with.Uh yeah. As someone's who's DONE community building, it just DOESN'T work that way.
Can some of the community transfer to other games and keep said community? Sure. But, over time, the community tends to assume more and more of the characteristics of the new game's community. Or it stagnates into a clique.
I'm looking to CO as my CoH replacement. One of my requirements for "the next game" was super sidekicking. CO has that.
One of the others is going for LotRO. He has no interest in CO*. I still play WoW and don't want another level and gear segregated game, so I have little interest in (as a group) playing LotRO. Another has basically shown no interest in any MMOs.
We played CoH almost nightly but now that the unifying force of CoH is gone there's not one replacement that has an automatic consensus.
*CO does a very good job of driving off first timers, especially CoHers, with its crippled character creator as the first thing you experience followed by the dreadful tutorial with no travel power to suppress that goofy run animation and if there was something in the store you wanted to start with, tough luck, get someone to 10, then do what you wanted. My sales pitch of "it really sucks until you've got your first level 6 and it mostly stops sucking once you've got your first ten" wasn't effective. If I hadn't heard elsewhere that it did indeed have super sidekicking, I'd never have touched it again after my first exposure. -
Quote:I don't understand why so many people have gotten so hateful in these forums. It breaks my heart to see all of this, it really does. Why did such a simple post from someone asking, "What is Plan Z?" turn into such a hatefest??Quote:I've been hearing about it. Is it a plan to jump ship to that new zombie mmo, War Z?Quote:Honestly, I never had any faith in any plan to save this game organized by the community, I just wanted to know what the last ditch effort was for the game. The only game they will be able to make is a sequel to the CoH flash game that was basically a modded version of Superman for the Atari 2600.l

Quote:Because the person making the "point" needs there to be enough to make their "point" credible (the validity of the point itself aside, a digital distribution only niche author might have been a better subject, one that has dead tree versions that listed on best seller lists... not so much). We're talking about sheer numbers here. People laugh at CoH fans efforts to save the game because they are too few to be worth it for NCsoft to sell to. Why would it be any different for an author?
Quote:I had never heard of this Lackey chick before everyone said "omg! Mercedes Lackey wants CoH saved!" -
Quote:There is no good, there is only profit, so sayeth the logical. It's amazing how much some people in this thread who stand under the glorious banner of logic, seem to have nothing better to do than ridicule others who are trying to do something good.
And even though they ardently defend one group's ability to make decisions with no input from those affected by the decision they seem to violently oppose another group's ability to make decisions that affect only those making the decision, which doesn't seem all that logical or rational. -
The number of CoH fans is like light, if you make a "insignificant" statement, the community is insignificant, if you make a "significant" statement, the community is significant. So like light is both a particle and a wave, the CoH community is both insignificant and significant at the same time.
-
No offense, but with the forums in the state they are in, if it doesn't come from a red name it's either trollbait or will devolve into a trollfest.
You may have only the best intentions or you may get your jollies griefing other people but others have spread the same obfuscated message and they have all been false hopes. -

I almost mistook this thread for a fauxnews echo chamber. Taking it to a new level there trolls.

Quote:Corrupt capitalism would be not maximizing profit to those who think acting in the name of profit justifies anything.(probably the wrong word to use, because I don't disagree with capitalism, only that it has become more corrupt and 'scroogey' as time has progressed)
And for people who claim to be dispassionate and logical, you've already won, the game is dead, why are you still here? -
Some may be arguing for the actual online service to continue but I think most are wanting a way to access what they've paid for after the original online service is shut down, even if it is just a offline/local mode and requiring that shouldn't be much of a burden.
And businesses don't do what's "right" unless it also happens to be what's most profitable, so the only way to make businesses do the "right" thing is to make it too expensive not to. If corporations could prove themselves responsible citizens (they are people now) of the world it wouldn't have to be that way but when someone's moral calculus can be stated in entirety as "does it increase profits?" they aren't going to play nice without a lot of supervision. -
