im not sure about the others, but coralax and avilan would need totally unique costume creation systems.... which could get awesome

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm completely excited about this. I'm not sure about the Avilans, though I'm sure they'll most likely have wing customization (how drastic is out of my knowledge), but as for the Coralax, unless the devs make a complete spin on what they are, they're going to have a seperate costume set since they're coral people. I really can't wait, and I really don't care if the Coralax don't get any access to upcoming prestige items or new costume sets, as long as they get their own unique coral/underwater costumes.

    [ QUOTE ]
i don't think the devs do either, but they had to be made into 2 separate ATs because they have different inherent powers (warshades get different bonuses from their link than peacebringers do). i believe there is a coding issue in that all powersets from an AT have to use the same inherent.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Oh I never said the devs didn't, I was just talking about how some people consider the Kheldian to be two seperate Epic ATs, therfore, automatically assuming that the Coralax and the BotBS will be released at the same time to balance out the whole PB/WS vs Coralax/BotBS. It's more than likely that the new upcoming sets too will feature 2 if not more variations of that single Epic AT to choose from. Just like the Peacebring and the Warshade for the Kheldian. We already know a likely candidate for the Coralax, and that is the Shaper. The first-made Coralax who are priests of their people.

    [ QUOTE ]
Hybrids of certain ATs?im confused, please expand

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well, I can't really explain much because I don't remember much from when it was discussed, but there are a few posts in this forum (old though, you may find it through search) about the Incarnate concept. It's also in the Web of Arachnos novel, you can pick it up at your local bookstores (haha, what an Ad) and in the CoX comics.

    Anyway, here's an example:
disclaimer: I may get the more detailed info wrong, but I'm just trying to get to the jist of the concept.

Statesman was a Tanker, he drank from what I believe is "The Well of Furies" and there, he was granted god-like powers. From then on he became an Incarnate Tanker.

    very cool
im alittle dissapointed that the GMs are just large and not really what youd call "giant" :/
but your write up is great

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well, you're basically looking at it from an in-game perspective. Toon to Giant Monster ratio. In real life, if you see a 10 ft electric being walking around, I doubt you'd think otherwise.
  3. I don't think that's credible proof.
Credible proof would be multiple Deathsruges on a screenshot.

I would like to think all the monsters are able to be summoned, but when I tried it, many times now, it still hasn't worked for me.

    Bodyguard

    [ QUOTE ]
    Ocean_born:
In addition to being in Supremacy range, you will need to set the bodyguard pets to both Follow command and Defensive stance. A command is an instruction you want the pet to do, a stance is a general behavior the pet will perform while not actively following a command. They are separate functions that combine to control how the pets perform. In this case, while in Supremacy range, Follow+Defensive=Bodyguard.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Ah.. that sucks.. haha.
Well you can't have em all right.

    Thanks though Sandolphan.

    Bodyguard

So wait, for anyone who can give me a simple answer, I want to get a more simpler take on Bodygaurd..

From what I understand, as long as you're in Supremacy range of your pets and and are on Defensive, that means they're on Bodygaurd mode? Does this mean Bodygaurd will be active even if I make them attack on Defensive? or do I have to set whichever pets on a certain Defensive mode (like Defensive+follow) to be on Bodygaurd?
  6. Disclaimer: You're reading pure speculation.

Yeah, but it's a good idea though. If anything, I would think one of the set options would include animal shapeshifting only.
  7. Disclaimer: You're reading pure speculation.

    Nice speculation.

Although I, myself, have yet to come up with an image because it's all so random, haha. Well, that, and I never actually thought of it that way.

But your idea got me thinking.

Egyptians are known for their animal references, from people, to creatures, to gods themselves. I think along with the theme of shapeshifting, you might have a good concept that the devs may use for the BotBS. If this turns out to be so, then we will be able to (or have the option to) shapeshift into animal forms, or, animal-esque at least.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
My best guess would be Blood of the Black Stream and Corolax for COV, Avians for COH, and Incarnates for BOTH.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Disclaimer: You're reading pure speculation.

The Coralax - It's obvious they hate humankind. But it has been stated that not all Coralax took drastic measures to seek vengeance against humans. Also, you have to remember that the Shapers were the first people made by their goddess, Merulina. Who knows what else she created. I highly doubt the Coralax EAT will have only one option to choose from.

P.S. I don't consider the Kheldian EAT two seperate EATs. Sure, they give you both different experiences, but they're from one concept. IMO, having more than one set to choose from in one EAT concept should just be considered one.

The Blood of the Black Stream - They sound pretty bad (as in bad villainous), or, rather, the whole thing with the Oil Spill was pretty bad. Wether they should or should not be in whichever side is still up for debate IMO, because we don't have enough information about them. For all we know, they could turn out to be for both.

The Avilans - This is a concept, as I have stated, that is highly on-demand. Everyone wants wings. Everyone. I have a strong feeling about this concept being available for both sides, with wide variations of Light vs Dark.

The Incarnate - Like the BotBS, we don't have enough information. We haven't been given that much information. Last we heard, the devs aren't sure what to do with it yet. So for this one, not sure.

    [ QUOTE ]
How about listing a few expamples ?
    Maybe a top 3,5, or 10 ?

    [/ QUOTE ]
As others would say, "search-fu", lol.

They're mentioned in the comics, novel, and there are tidbits of comments from the devs from last year. I'm too lazy to go get 'em but I'm sure you can find it using the search engine on this forum. I would like to say I'm biased on all the Epic ATs, but sadly, I barely have any interest in the Incarnate. Mainly because of (a) how it's represented as a hybrid (b) it still has not yet been decided what it's going to be. The concept is pretty bland. But I'll reserve my complete judgment until after more specifics has been announced about them, or until we completely know of them.

    [ QUOTE ]
Giving COV BOTBS and Corolax fits not only for thematic reasons but it gives them two Epic ATs to match p to COH's two Epic AT's.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Like my example earlier with the Coralax, we shouldn't limit ourselves to the BotBS, Coralax, and Avilans to have just one option. Just like how the Kheldian is one concept with 2 options, the other EATs just very well could have 2 or more other options/sets to choose from.

    [ QUOTE ]
Nice post. Thank you for taking the time to put it together.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Thanks, I really appreciate it.
  9. You should know that there are not that much things confirmed about the upcoming Epic Archetypes, other than their names. Most things you'll hear are pure speculation. Only believe things that have official proof. Also, the devs decided that they're not going to use the lvl 50 rule to unlock an Epic AT anymore. What the alternate way hasn't been confirmed yet.

I'm not sure anyone else would bother explaining it as thoroughly as I, so here it goes, hopefully answering all your questions.

So far, the upcoming Epic ATs that are upcoming are:

    I. Coralax - You can read about them in the CoV enemies profiles (on their main website.) Their story has debuted in CoV in the form of the Coralax-Hybrids enemies, the Cult of the Shapers Story Arc from Diviner Maros in Sharkhead Isle, and the Temple of Waters Strike Force in Sharkhead Isle. Nothing much has been said about it. So far, this is the most introduced upcoming Epic AT. They're most likely going to have lots of water/undersea powers.

Note: They also may have made a debut in CoH in the form of a mission/story arc in Striga Isle where there are talks of coral and founds of a fish-man (which, in speculation, is assumed to be the Virtea.)

Note: They're gonna make another debut in I7, as some Archetypes will be able to summon Coralax-Hybrids and Coral Gaurdians as pets, and correspondingly enough, Captain Mako's set is named Leviathan Mastery. The knowledge of these powers supposedly comes from the Coralax themselves.

II. Blood of the Black Stream - This Epic AT made it's debut on CoV as well in a story arc from Mr. Bocor. It's mentioned briefly, but that's all. The story arc is about getting a book, which turns out to be a journal of a man named Padre Henri, who seems to may have had ties with the BotBS. This, among other hints, have solely concluded that the BotBS are probably of Egyptian origin. As may have the Hellions involved in the Oil Spill, but that's a different story. The mission is easy to get, so I won't spoil anything.

Also, Statesman has confirmed in a live interview that they will be Shapeshifters.

Note: There was a mention of the Black Stream being the Nile River. Manticore (the dev) was quite pleased when someone finally figured it out. Wether or not the find was true or false remains unanswered.

III. Avilans - This concept has been on-demand for a long time due to the fact that it will have wings. These avian beings, supposedly, have debuted in CoH through a mission where you find weird bones that are hollow like a bird's. Nothing much has been oficially revealed other than that they are already designed on paper, and are just waiting for the right time to implement, according to Statesman.

IV. Incarnates - This is a weird concept because it hasn't been decided yet wether or not it'll be an Epic Archetype. It might be a bit confusing, but let me just show examples. Statesman is a Tanker Incarnate, and Lord Recluse is a Mastermind Incarnate. What does that show you? Well, that they're hybrids. But according to the devs, they're not sure what to do with it yet. There are official news about it all throughout CoX, but I can't list em all.

And don't forget, there has been no official word yet about wether or not which ones will only be for villains, for heroes or for both. Also, a word from Posi states that they have big plans for the upcoming Epic ATs in the upcoming issues. This was in an I7 interview. I may be using what he said to my advantage, but I think he means I8 and so on.

Here's what Positron said in the interview:
(Just incase nobody has read it yet)

Question: "In CoH, the player can choose the epic characters Peacebringer and Warshade. Are any opposite epic characters for CoV planned?"

Answer: "Not for Issue 7, but future updates will have more Epic Archetypes for both Heroes and Villains. Epic Archetypes add a lot to the game, so we don't want to just slap on some powers together and call it an EAT. We have big, big plans for Epic Archetypes in upcoming issues."

I see stuff like this on these boards all the time. Am I the only one bothered by it?

Honestly, what the heck kind of compliment is this supposed to be? And where does this attitude even come from? Do people think that "talent" is some kind of elusive thing that is bestowed upon the chosen ones? Don't people realize that anyone can learn to draw? The reason that the best people on this board are the best is that they WORK at it. So it's like you're insulting their hard work.

Take one of my favorites, Jomaro Kindred. Now, I've been drawing a long time, have a degree in it, etc. But I don't think my super hero drawings are as good as Jomaro's. Why? Because the drawing gods have smiled upon him and not to me? NO! Because he DRAWS MORE THAN I DO. He has more patience with his artwork than I do. I pick at a drawing for a half hour and then move on to a 3d model and then I try to level my Mind/Psy Dom and then I watch Spongebob with my kids and then I might come back and pick at my drawing for another half hour. While I was doing all this, Jomaro was DRAWING. I try to tell this to my students all the time: being successful is mostly about how much you work. "Talent" accounts for a very small portion of your results and has more to do with how quickly you get better. It doesn't affect your "upper cap" as it were.

So let's cut the crap with the "You have talent. I hate you." stuff. If you REALLY want to draw, go get some pencils and paper, do a Google search for "drawing tutorials," go to the bookstore and get some books that look like they'll teach you what you want to know, and GET DRAWING!!! If you don't want to devote the kind of time that Jomaro and Doug Shuler and others devote to it, then just accept that you're not going to be as good as they are and stop hating on them for their hard work.

Seriously, what do others think about this? Am I overreacting?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    IMHO, not everyone can draw.

I go to an art university, and not to be boastful, but not everyone can draw...well. Everyone can draw to a certain degree, but it depends on what people would be looking for. Everyone can draw, but some are just better than others.

I'm only speaking on a professional standpoint, and out of honesty. Some have it, some don't.

But as an artist, one should not limit theirselves as to what they can or cannot do. Art shouldn't be about or have rules whatever your media may be.

Mako is a Coralax though.... (or a Hybrid, or whatever) they seem pretty magic-ish (remember the Calystix arc?)

Mako is a mutant, not a Coralax.

    Barracuda is a Coralax though

    [/ QUOTE ]
Correction: Barracuda is a Coralax-Hybrid* though
Fun fact: Barracuda is pretty obvlious to her past.

I doubt she has anything to do with Mako's ties with being able to command Coralax-Hybrids. IMO, Mako probably is in league with a real Coralax. Mako probably promises protection of their coral city from the filthy humans.. or something.

[/ QUOTE ]Oh good grief. You do know that power descriptions in the game are sometimes left in place even after the powers change? So if these patron powers are modified for whatever reason, say Dark Embrace gets some +Perception, will that be dynamically updated in the in-game information or will that also lag behind and require someone to manually enter the changes?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    That's *definitely* a nuke.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No it isn't. I have Psychic Wail on my Def - that's a nuke. Psychic Shockwave recharges in good time, doesn't drain your End, does good but not insane damage, and doesn't do that 'three separate attacks' thing that nukes do.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Color me surprised and shocked. I was sure that they were the same "basic" powersets from Defenders.

Why make blast sets without the nukes though? That seems pretty odd then.

    It's not a blast set.
    Defenders have Psychic Blast.
    Dominators have Psychic Assault.

I'm sure they will give numbers like they said but will that make a difference when powers are "balanced"? Will they tell the player which aoe immobilize stops knockback and which one doesn't? Will the lvl 49 pets have their hit points, resistances, status protection, etc listed? Will there be pictures of the powers to look at in the game so you're not stuck with something that looks so horrible/ridiculous you wish you never picked that patron? Will the descriptions even be accurate or in 2 months will a player test something, post about it, then recieve a dev response along the lines of "ooops, we forgot to update that description. We nerfed that power before it even hit test, sorry".

These patron powers just keep getting worse and worse in my view.

    It comes down to this:

The Villain Patron Pools look good, if you can get past the thematic visual ties to the patron.
But, Hero Epic Pools give you more varied choices.

I don't really like the direction they've taken with the Patron Pools. In a couple months, I won't care as much, but I still won't like it.

A dev needs to confirm wether or not the villains will have access to the hero's EPP if they don't pick a Patorn. Posi? Castle?
