Too much good stuff last night. Man my head still hurts a little
Get enough drinks in some gamers and it's pretty easy to break the ice
It was great talking to Ex, LH, Blue Steel, and Brian. My small group had a great time socializing and tearing it up on the dance floor too
I'll get the pics on the SG PhotoBucket in the next few days, but we're stoked for October -
LH, I would also like to suggest the following:
* A rule against post padding. Perhaps this already falls under fluff, but with the exception of Forum Games, making fluff replies, or replying to your own posts in series for the sole point of increasing one's post count should not be allowed, IMO.
* A rule regarding "grandstanding". Grandstanding is a mixture of a rant, post padding, lobbying, and/ or threadjacking, in order to draw attention to the posting poster. Obviously, this could be subjective, but it could be used in the most obvious cases.
Additionally, when the new forums come into play, when a post is marked for moderation by a user, will there be any text input to let the moderator know why you're marking it form moderation? That would cut out a lot of ambiguity in hitting the "Notify Moderator" button. -

At the same time others, usually being insulting and rude to forum posters concerned about changes or actions on the part of the NCSoft staff, specifically devs and moderators, have been allowed to make personally insulting remarks and profane statements blatantly against rules.
[/ QUOTE ]
Although I don't remember any community reps making "personally insulting remarks", I have seen one or two developers violate the rules. And they were moderated just like anyone else. -
[ QUOTE ]
Out of curiosity, why do posts (not threads) need to be 'constructive' as long as they are on-topic to the thread and not inflammatory?
Sometimes you just want to show support, or make a little joke.
We're not developers or other such officials, and these boards aren't designed for that purpose... we're just users who all play the same game... a friendly community in this case is much more necessary that a constructive one...
I can understand not wanted an entire thread of "/signed" and "I agree."s but I've never actually seen that happen... we as a general rule don't have problems with spam or lack of discussion...
The CoH community is in general a friendly and fun place to be, don't remove that just because it's not "constructive".
[/ QUOTE ]
I think it's important that, more likely, mods don't want threads to be "DEstructive". In other words, threads showing support, adding to a civilized discussion, offering constructive criticism, a civilized debate of a topic, etc. are valid posts. Posts that attack other posters, rants without any constructive criticism, "lobbying" (thanks Zombie_Man), etc. are example of destructive posts. They are either meant to make a scene, derail topics, or just start bad topics/ flaming/ trolling altogether.
For example: discussing what you did during Double XP weekend is a good post. Having a civilized discussion about the faults of Double XP weekend is also good post. Starting a thread demanding answers from the devs on why Double XP weekend was awful is not a good post. The former two are community-building and/ or constructive, while the latter is a deconstructive rant that probably offers little constructive feedback.
Certainly, there can be gray areas, which will be up to the moderators to decide how to handle them.
That's my take anyhow. -

I've complained about these forums' moderation before... just not here on these forums. I would use another forum, such as an SG forum, comic forum, game website forum, etc. if you need to vent.
[/ QUOTE ]
And we thank you for that.
However I would also say that we try to be very approachable. While we cannot discuss moderation of other people, if you feel something or you, yourself, got moderated unfairly, or things are uneven, you can message one of us to discuss it. Keep in mind that certain actions we may not be able to talk about, but if you do have concerns, we are open to talk about them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Absolutely. Like I made mention of in my edit, it's the exception rather than the rule
Also:

# Negative feedback can be very useful, provided that it is presented in a civil, factual manner. Tell us what you don't like and why and how you feel it could be improved. Posts that are insulting and rude may be deleted, no matter how valid the ideas behind them may be.
# A rant is a post which is long-winded, redundant and filled with angry, non-constructive comments. A free exchange of ideas is essential to building a strong sense of community and helpful in the development of the game, but rants are disruptive and incite flaming and trolling. Please post your thoughts in a concise, clear manner and avoid going off on rambling tangents.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks for making these rule exceedingly clear. Destructive criticism usually serves little purpose. -
LH, something should be mentioned in the new forum guidelines that losing forum privileges may also exclude a player from closed beta participation, just for sake of clarity.

As such, warnings and bans are not to be discussed on the forum. Such matters shall remain private between the NCsoft and the user. Questions or comments concerning warnings and bans will be conveyed through e-mail or private messaging. Likewise, discussions regarding moderator actions are not permitted on the forum. If you have questions regarding a post or thread that has been removed or subject to other moderation, feel free to contact a moderator to discuss it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I disagree with this policy, to a certain extent. While I understand that your company does not want to have a public debate regarding specific conduct that results in a disciplinary action, I believe that it would be helpful to me, and others in the community, to see exactly what discipline results from engaging in certain conduct.
For example, I have seen Lighthouse and Niviene lock certain threads with a brief statement of why. Those types of moderation help me understand how the forum rules are applied in a practical and real context.
But hey, it's still your playground and you get to make the rules. Nice job getting those polished up

I have not read the entire thread yet, just the announcement. Has this already happened, or have they announced that they're going to do it?
They already merged accounts once before. So only accounts activated after that date would have had limited access. So that alone isn't a huge step. However, NC Soft's web site is STILL selling the games individually.
Now, what exactly does this announcement mean? Is it JUST another account merging, "if you had only one side, now you have both"? Or are they giving all characters full access to either side of the game?
Either way, this is the death knell for the game I enjoyed. City of Villains, already all but abandoned in the last two years, will now never see exclusive content again. It's time to finally accept the facts, and cancel my account. *MY* game is dead.

There is a reason for the rejoicing in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. It is official – NCsoft has completely merged the two games into one game universe.
...
Paragon City and the Rogue Isles have always been a part of the same game universe.

the benefits of a unified City of Heroes game.

Hopefully this announcement will finally make it clear that developers do not favor one side or the other. (I know, slim chance at that).

can i have my money back that i paid for cov then?? cause this is kinda a slap in the face for those of us that bought cov.
and this is pretty much the same ol promises that we've been hearing. how about doing something to prove them, how about getting these supposed 3 issues a year out for once. we've had 1 in a years time and its getting quite boring.
sorry if i seem doubtful that this announcement means anything, but so far its the same announcement that was made before. talk is cheap in this world .
[/ QUOTE ]
Talk is cheap, much like this post and the one to which I'm replyingLook, typing!
Anywho, you want a rebate for getting to play CoV for almost three years before this new change? In my opinion, I think you're beyond most return policiesI mean, they might give you one, but I suspect they'd take away your lvl 50 brute and all your other progress in CoV up to today
Also, I'm still waiting for you to show me where a red name said that they would have three issues this year. I mean, are they even trying anymore? I would get bored too if I got PLd all the time too.
When you find that quote, kindly reply to this post to educate me. Thanks in advance! -
[ QUOTE ]
These capping issues would be null and void if they came up with a way to have trial accounts bumped off servers or not able to access servers on double xp weekends. Its not right that paying customers have to compete with non paying customers who during the dxp weekend tend to be the spammers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Since this still seems to be an issue, I've created a thread here to debate this topic. -
[ QUOTE ]
When's the City Vault come out?
[/ QUOTE ]
Hey, that's my line!
Seriously... this is really interesting... it opens up a lot of possibilities that have already been mentioned on this thread, besides the benefit of being able to access both games from one code: hero / villain crossovers, covert missions into "enemy territory", side-switching, etc.
Many players have been asking the devs to remove the all-but-dissolved barrier between these two games, and this is another big step in that direction. I think, as players, we'll see streamlined development, better content (using the newly-developed decision-based mission context), and more interaction between Paragon City and the Rogue Isles.
More heroes trolling around the Isles and more Villains causing mayhem in the city will certainly spice things up. That's not to say PvP-wise, but just in general.
Considering that (AFAIK) the upcoming competition intends to use the same "world zones" for both heroes and villains, it sounds like the prudent thing to do to compete as well. How it will work, I don't have any clue, but it should be worth considering as a possibility with this announcement. -

One proposal I would have is that trial accounts are not allowed to log on servers for that weekend. Why should they get to benefit from that and push out paying customers?
[/ QUOTE ]
Locking out potential new customers from an event like this would just be crazyThat's the sort of message you don't want to give to prospects. One can't just assume that only RMTers are using Trial accounts. I had a friend on a trial account just a couple of weeks ago.
[/ QUOTE ]
Its not about RMTers... its about that someone playing for free shouldnt be bumping out of a server someone who is paying. Period.
And also, people saying going to other servers. If your friends, almost all toons, etc are on a specific server, there's no justification to move to a different one. Cant exactly get teams on a ghost town server either, ya know...
Also, someone suggested playing on one of the ghost town servers then transfering it later. Why should I or anyone else pay to transfer it? And pay to do so because trials playing the servers free will be potentially benefitting.
And again, if a trial account wants to reap the benefits of double exp, they can just pay like the rest of us and activate the account. There's some marketing incentive for you.
Seriously, I really hope the dev's do something.... anything to reduce the issues with regards to lockout.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think... we will just have to agree to disagree. I just don't feel like getting into the same debate all over again in another thread with another poster, thus further taking the thread off-topic. -
This is where I plug Triumph as a friendly alternative to high-population servers that, because of popularity, may not always be accessible during the Double XP events.
If you're looking for an alternative server (or something you want to transfer a character to before the event, or make a character and move them afterwards), then come to Triumph, the Friendly Server . Heck, I hear there are even a few choice SGs and VGs there
(Sorry, still need to make the video ad for this) -
