  1. Don't break the tablet! Appearantly the pen is free game however.
  2. I ink a lot using paths. I'll freehand some, but there is a lot of cleanup work with the eraser. When inking the only thing I have set to pressure is brush size. I turn off opacity and flow from pen pressure.

I had the same problem with my Aiptek tablet. Hex helped me out a lot in finding drivers because the default drivers don't work correctly with CS2. Aipek and Adesso are the exact same hardware in different casing. I believe Trust and Medion are the same hardware as well.

I went through quite a few drivers. I ended up going with the 3.10 from Aiptek, but I am having trouble tracking down where exactly I downloaded those from. I know that isn't much help, but I can email you them if you like or you can do a little digging on your own.
  3. I currently use an Aiptek HyperPen 6000u. It's roughly equivalent to a graphire 4 x 6. It runs around $25 if you can still find it. They still sell the next couple of sizes up on the company's web site.

Finding the right drivers for it is tricky though. The standard drivers work great with Gimp, Painter, and older version of Photoshop. The pressure sensitivity didn't work in CS2 however. I went through quite a few drivers from similar products before I found one that would let me get the pressure sensitivity back.

They make larger sizes, and are much cheaper than a wacom. The pen is slightly heavier because of difference in batteries. You also don't have the option of different nubs. Once your nub is gone on your pen you replace the pen. That's $10 if you order from their site.

If you are looking to do professional work, then I recommend Wacom if for no other reason than they have much better support and dependable drivers. If you are looking for something cheap to tinker with as a hobby and don't mind taking a little extra time fishing for new drivers when a new program or OS comes out then Aiptek or Adesso should serve you just fine.
  4. I found the Curse-Gaming site to be rather buggy. What's more, I don't see a reason to use it unless Curse-Gaming and the official CoH/V site are going to support each other in some way.

I read the previous thread and the original announcement read to me as, "We will never have fan art here. Go away." All around that was a plug for a buggy community site that no one had heard of. It was like Curse-Gaming was getting used to bury the announcement as opposed to actually being a place to bring the community closer together.

I would not personally be opposed to using a service like Curse-Gaming. I could even put up with the various errors. I would only do so however if I actually felt like it would bring the community together in some way. The community has been in a steady decline from my perspective for a while now. I don't see splintering sections of it off as helping to strengthen it either.

If NCSoft and Curse-Gaming were to work together then that would be a different story. I never saw any indication of that before however. City of isn't one of the main games they cover, and aside from an interview I haven't seen any other association between the two.

There are many services out there that offer very similar things. I mean gaming sites with fan art sections. None of them really flourish in this area because there is no real bond between them and the game in question. People tend to go to these types of sites to use their forums and other services when they have become disenfranchised with the main community. They tend to be less buggy from running longer, but without the ties to the main community they never do very well.

Basically, I would jump on if I believed NCSoft would be working side by side of Curse Gaming. I have had some problems with the site, but most of them are fixable. I wouldn't be uploading all of my art there, but I would put up a few pieces. I don't understand the need to use them without NCSoft there to partner with them however.

Do you have Bloom, Depth of Field or High Water enabled? Turn them all off. Problem persisting?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Probably old news, but I have to disable the water options in every OpenGL game I play with my ATI card. That includes older games such as the first Neverwinter Nights. Not really a helpful post, but it does repesent the fact that the water at least is an ATI compatibility issue with OpenGL. It's not limited to CoH/V. If I have problems in any other game that has become the first thing I look for. It's that one feature the majority of the time that messes me up.

So Statesman isn't a part of the game anymore?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Statesman is still a part of the company. He is overseeing several projects. He handed over the lead designer reigns to Positron during the second anniversary if I'm not mistaken.
  7. I don't suppose it would be possible to get this as an ongoing series?
  8. Wow Graver. Just wow. Thank you very much for sharing the process with us. I really love your work and the pencils alone are really nice.

It does seem like it went through quite a few revisions.
  10. Poser will exprt to photoshop. You don't run both at the same time. Just exprt a saved file and open her up. Not a bad job there though.

Wow, nice job! Great line work and a nice fix on the hat too Is it too late to suggest just one little thing? Because I did notice that the lines for the stripes on her stockings on her right leg (our left) are a little off on her thigh. On the thigh, you might want to curve them a bit more on the underside of her leg. As they are right now, it kind of flattens out her thing instead of showing it's volume. It's really just two lines there on her thigh... if you can get them to end at about a 90 degree angle from where they began, you'll have one heck of a killer piece. As it is, it's great! I totally love it!

    [/ QUOTE ]
You're absolutely right. I went ahead and tweaked the stripes on both thighs. With the lack of color they really helt to define the form.

    Here is the updated image.

    Um...

    I don't own any pencils

    What's that?!?

    *points*

    *runs and hides*

I may be up for commissions eventually, but am going to be working on SG stuff for now.
  13. I've tinkered with poser a little bit. I've never really been happy with the anatomy for action poses though so use it primarily as a manequin where I can control the lighting. For custom clothes, tattoos, and hair I used photoshop. The hard part is getting a consistent style. I ended up putting quite a bit of work into the models to make them look kind of painterly and fix the anatomy problems I had.

I love the idea of the striped socks. The only reason I didn't put them in is I had high hopes of coloring this eventurally and hoped to just color them in. I think I'll go ahead and ink them and repost.

    Go for it!

I may later as well. Right now I'm going to take a break from it.

Sorry about the wait everyone. I'm pretty slow when it comes to inking, and I kept reworking some things.

    Here she is.

I am uncertain at this point if I will color her or not at this point.
  17. I use gimp to ink. I find that paths are easier for me there than in photoshop. Nice work on the inks.
  18. This is why I always use the cheapest materials I can get away with. I used to paint some (mostly acrylics), but every time I turned around it seems like paper and boards would change quality on me. Even when I bought the same exact product. This was really bad when I would buy stuff online. Now while I go cheap, I still feel of any paper or whatever surface I am getting because of the changes between batches.

Hex Girl was asking me where I was at with this, so I thought I would share with everyone. I have begun the inking process. I am a really slow inker. That, and I am tweaking the face a little. I wasn't completely happy with it.

    Fairly low quality screen capture
  20. Very nice. I am really loving watching your creative process. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Poser is a tough nut to crack. Iv'e tried my hand at it a few times.

Work on paper and then bring it into Photoshop maybe.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Poser has problems with anatomy. If you don't know how the body works then you really shouldn't depend on poser to do that for you. People who know the body and how it works can use poser and work things around to where it is correct. Working straight from it without that knowledge enforces bad habits and later on down the road makes it harder to fined problems within a specific piece.

I use poser sort of as a manequin at times. If I have an idea in my head but not a specific pose then I will open up poser and play around. It's also nice for playing with lighting. I haven't really done much else with it.
