So "consider" away, but don't expect anything to come of it.

I noticed a while back i wasn't getting my just rewards- I was stuck on 48 months for I guess close to a year. kept meaning to squawk about it but never got around to it. Logged in the other night an voila, 5 badges taking me up to Honorable.
  3. As someone who has historically 'skipped' the early game via PL'ing, I can see Bill's point. For a long-time player who's used to tricked out characters capable of outlandish feats, it is really tedious to limp along with a smattering of powers you can barely afford to use without coming to a grinding halt after every fight.

But I find myself siding with Sam here. The (relative) tedium of the lower levels make the latter levels stand out sharply in comparison. And looking back to my pre-jaded CoH 'youth', I didn't begrudge the pace of progression...and this was well before all of the newfangled steps they took to smooth out the experience (vet reward attacks, bank travel powers, xp smoothing, patrol xp, etc etc etc).

It isn't that big a deal anymore, not when you can blaze through the pre-20 game in just a few hours just running 'regular' content, not even making an effort.

Endurance is supposed to be something we have to manage. If it were trivialized enough to placate the complaints in this thread, they might as well take it out altogether.

the only time I enjoy KB is when I'm soloing, and then it's lots and lots of fun.

Note to AR soloists: KB set IOs are cheap, plentiful and pack some quality bonuses!

And in both cases, I've seen AR/DEV toons turned away.

Even on ITFs, where the knockback is less likely to happen.

This isn't limited to AR/DEV, and tends to be some what of a AR thing though.

My fire/ice gets team invites virtually every time I log him in, even if it's just for a few minutes to fiddle with the market.
I can't remember the last time anyone gave my ar/dev the time of day...and I was playing him heavily for quite a while on the push to 50.

Which only speaks to player perception, not reality...although in this case the two are fairly accurately aligned.

    Indeed!

I celebrated hitting 50 by grabbing a Rag proc, dropping it in and popping into the nearest hazard zone for some fun.

*EDIT* Also, Rain of Fire's damage potential is greatly wasted at the end of the chain, but you'd have to set up some sort of control ability if you wanted to use it at the start of the battle which would probably cut into your DPS.
Throw a Ragnarok: Chance for Knockdown in there and it makes a great alpha (assuming you're 50 of course).

Not to defend AF's points in any way-he seems to be showing the same form here that landed him on my ignore list in the market forum.

there's no real comparison between my fire/ice and my ar/dev, the first is hugely better than the other in every game situation.

Which isn't to say the ar/dev is "unplayable" or "not viable" or whatever, people play all kinds of sub-par sets in this game and have a fine time doing it. But measuring objectively, it's no contest.

If something is really hyped or FOTM I'll avoid it like the plague. Even if it's something I've looked forward to.

I refused to watch any Harry Potter movies until the hysteria died down. Then I of course fell in love with the series.

I was still rocking my pager in 2000, refusing to give in and get a cellphone. Now I can't live without one.

I'll end up avoiding Demons and Dual Pistols for at least 6 months after GR is released.
I still haven't made a Shield toon because its still so shiny.

    Does this make me weird?
    The motivation does, maybe.

I didn't watch the Potter films because they were mostly made by hacks (I did catch Prisoner in the theaters on the strength of its director, and was not disappointed), not because they were popular.

I don't have a cell phone, not because they're popular but because I dislike the idea of being 'reachable' 24/7. I've seen people become progressively more enslaved by their phones over the past decade or so and it's not a behavior I care to emulate. I prefer 'opt in' social systems like the internet and my answering machine rather than ones that ride around in my pocket nagging me 24/7.

I love my iPod at the same time I love my classic Marantz turntable.

When it comes to the game, if it looks fun I'll play it regardless of how FOTM or not it is. I had a kat/regen way before it was cool (when I started mine we still had the clunky broadsword animations *shudder*). I've never had a fire/kin, not because they're popular or I don't like farming, but because I already have a mind/kin and I don't really like the active nature of the secondary (I have a fire/rad farmer, TYVM =P).

I have a DP alt right now not because they're 'hot' but because the animations are really spectacular and it's a ton of fun to play. I've *never* had a shield character (even though they're by all accounts quite good) because I'm rarely able to team and that seems to be where they'd shine.

Judge stuff on its merits, who cares if it's popular or not.

    why would they do that?

If you base rewards solely around what average player are able to accomplish the efficient ones will blow up the whole system.

I don't like merits at all and think they were a bad idea, but since we're stuck with them they must take the capabilities of efficient players into account.

it would at the very least necessitate re-balancing a sizable number of powers and ATs. Altering one of the founding assumptions of balance in the game would be a huge job.

IMHO it isn't necessary given the wide range of options we've been given over the years to mitigate the perceived problem.
  11. I've got an ar/dev who dates back to the early days of the game.

originally he was a super fun killing machine. then ED hit, he stopped being fun and I stopped playing him.
    For a really long time.

I picked him up again a while back for experimental reasons- I wanted to see how he did after all the changes and see if I could haul him to 50, IO him out and see if that could recapture some of the fun of the olden days.

I haven't finished his build, but he's okay to play.
Blasters are a lot easier to solo than back in the day and I got him to 50 no trouble, mostly soloing. I dislike waiting around for stuff so I didn't take Trip Mine, and I knew from experience that Time Bomb was a waste of a power. The new Auto Turret that follows you around looks cool and occasionally soaks up some aggro, so I can get past its piddling damage and short duration.

I wouldn't roll another ar/dev for the life of me. They are a terrible combination, which is especially lame since thematically they're a match made in heaven. Dev does nothing to make up for the (imho inexcusable) exclusion of Build Up. Back in the day the extra damage you got by six-slotting attacks for damage made up the difference, but since ED put the kibosh on that it is an absence you feel keenly.

All that said, he works great on a team. I didn't build him around trip mines, so teams steamrolling through missions doesn't really affect him. I uber-slotted all his cone AoEs (full auto, buckshot, flamethrower) and he can hold his own on a team- apply caltrops, cycle AoEs, and it's on to the next spawn.

IMHO it's one of the worst sets you can pick for synergy, but in my experience teaming actually *masks* its flaws. With other folks drawing aggro and buffing and debuffing the lack of build up isn't a big deal and you can cut loose with your heavy hitting AoEs without much worry.

    Veteran Rewards

For a small fee (say 19.99) someone could increase their veteran status to the most current setting. I think that allowing everyone in the game to possess all of the veteran abilities would be a good thing at this point.
if you can just buy them there's no point having them as 'veteran rewards', you might as well just put them in the NC Store at 14.95 each or whatever.

being able to make this or that specific build in a reasonable time frame isn't much of an argument. I can kit out someone with generics just as easily on either side (although red tends to be more expensive). So?

The meaningful measure of comparison is STUFF PEOPLE WANT. Players shouldn't have to actively avoid some sets just because they like playing villains.

The massive def and res debuffs while using it make it something you need to use carefully as is.

I'm all for ditching the recharge on rest.

It seems to me a longer activation (ala the Pocket D Teleporter maybe) or a longer 'rest' time would be able to keep it from being something to use thoughtlessly.

but at the lower levels, it would be nice if we could pop it off between spawns- there are certainly enough characters out there that would benefit.

Last night I log in to check the market an run a couple of missions and BAM, got like 5 vet badges including (finally) City Traveler.

    Nice surprise!
  16. Merits are just a mess anyway, might as well let people pick their levels.

I must have a brain tumor today, it didn't occur to me that you'd just clean out your inbox and send more.

that said, I don't think it'll change the market dynamic all that much- hoarders hoard now and will continue to hoard, this just makes it more convenient in terms of not needing a buddy or a second account to move stuff around.

At the very least 12 characters, each with 10 crafted IOs on a single unused server. Plus their recipe and salvage, plus their market slots
I was assuming tying it to your global name meant the 20 item limit was per account.

If it's per character I'm not sure why they bothered with a limit at all.

global accounts are limited to 20 emails bearing attachments.

have we gotten confirmation that they'll let us email items as well as inf?

Even if so, it doesn't necessarily mean carte blanche.

You can mail yourself stuff in WoW, but it costs inf and it has an expiration date- pick it up within 30 days (I think, it's been a while) or it goes bye bye. So you can 'renew' it, but it costs and the amount is not trivial.

If the devs want us to be able to mail items without opening the door to unlimited hoarding there are various approaches they could take, that's just one of them.
  22. far as I know if someone who's supposed to get a drop has a full inventory it just goes *poof*.

And Swell is on point- there are people out there who solo Defenders and don't think themselves ill used, whereas I would literally go crazy if I tried it.
