Shatner is really just Shatner. He's proved himself as a broader range actor thanks to his role particularly in Boston Legal. Does he have an ego? Absolutely. Does he openly mock himself and not take himself seriously at the same time? Definitely. This whole thing comes off to me as professional jealousy, really. Shatner became the star of the show and Takei on whatever level resents that or feels he was held down.

I'm not going to comment on what Shatner thinks about Takei's personal life because I've not read or seen anything one way or another. However, everything I have seen indicates that he's fairly broad-minded and accepting.

It's a showbusiness feud, but honestly one that only they seem to care about.

I've met/encountered Shatner at a convention many moons ago and yes the man does have an ego, but you are right in that he doesn't take himself too seriously then or now. Yes the man does "Ham it up" but he has fun and makes it fun to watch. His Priceline commercials have always been amusing especially when Nimoy joined for a few of them.

Last I read was that Shatner long ago mended fences with Doohan, he and Nimoy are practically best friends, and I believe he was on good terms with DeForrest and Nichols. I honestly don't know where he stands in the eyes of Walter though, and it's clear what Takei thinks.

But as I previously posted the old Trek was centered on Kirk, with Spock, McCoy and Scotty as the main support characters. Sulu, Chekov and Uhura were the token characters, as crummy as that may sound last I checked it was the truth. Perhaps Takei is jealous of Shatner but perhaps Takei's ire is better directed at Paramount instead?

    I-21 Respec

Well I had my main PB perm lightform build designed and respeced into prior to launch of ish 21. Since ish 21 hit the PB was doing quite well most of the time, reaping all the benefits of perm lightform, defense capped in human form and the occasional need to transform. However that build was using both Hasten and T4 Spiritual Core Paragon plus IO sets......

...which sadly led to an occasional power drain, defense toggles shutting down issue if I mistimed a LF crash and missed popping a blue. Not an insurmountable obstacle, more of a giant nuisance. So now that most of the dust of ish 21's release has begun to settle, and Street Justice isn't available yet I was able to sit back down and take another look at the build and modified it into basically Permalightform 2.0, hasten and IO bonuses only to make lightform perma by 5 seconds. This is good since this means I can now restore CARDIAC into the PB and keep defenses capped. Still designing the Permalightform 2.1 build which would not need hasten but will need T4 Spiritual Core Paragon and IO sets. Permlightform 3.0 would not need hasten or Spiritual, just IO bonuses but at the cost of losing some of the defense cap, and the cost of getting purples.

Which means they also likely won't be coming up with a "base transfer" option for moving/copying a base to Exalted server.

Well, each side wants to air their viewpoint which is fine. Problem is that the viewpoints have been aired already a few times and as a Vorlon once said "understanding is a 3 edged sword." One side, the other side and the truth, and in this case I'd say both viewpoints and the truth are being distorted by the passage of time as well as their perceptions and memories being a bit biased.

Takei indicates Shatner is being a bit closed minded regarding Takei's lifestyle and refused to attend the wedding. Shatner says he never got the invite. Clerical error on someone's part or deliberate snub? While I suspect George would have liked to have Shatner at his wedding, the wedding still happened and I suspect a fun time was had by all that attended. So what is the big deal? Yeah, it is a bit rude to ignore an invitation rather then RSVP a polite refusal, but I think this whole thing was blown out of proportion by both parties and the media, and dare I say some die hard Trek fans.

The two should sit down over some beer or tea or coffee or whatever, have some cameras to record it for the media and fans and chat about the old days and their differences and amicably settle up and also make it clear to the media and hence the fans that the feud is over. Shatner settled any problems with Doohan awhile before Doohan's health started to go bad and Shatner last I heard was quite welcome at Scotty's retirement/farewell party.

So why can't Shatner and Takei patch things up?

True, Marvel is endeavoring to get things as right as possible.

Now if only we can get an animated World War Hulk movie sequel to Planet Hulk...

Agreed, to me it never made a lot of sense to have the storage racks be the basis for rent costs. Just do away with rent entirely.

True, the legends of the Shatner ego are extreme. Also I am not certain how he and Walter Koenig are getting along, or if there is a silent grudge between them.

Pretty much. Still as the movies progressed, Uhura, Chekov and Sulu's roles were expanded.

Movie 1: same characters no major change

Movie 2: Uhura and Sulu are teaching at the academy with Kirk and all return to the Enterprise for the training mission which of course changed with the distress call from Regula-1. As Sulu said as he engaged the warp engines "So much for the little training cruise" Chekov had quite a bit more screen time and dialog in this movie as well.

Movie 3: All three had expanded roles as they all aided in hijacking the Enterprise and saving Spock

Movie 4: Again everyone had expanded roles, screen time, dialog, etc.

    Movie 5: no comment

Movie 6: all of them seemed to have equal screen time, etc etc. Though the movie centered more on Kirk starting with the trial and sentencing and on the prison planet.

Of course the common element in them all is that Kirk is Captain and he is the central character, as the Captain should be.

The background villain, who wouldn't fully show up until the team movie ("Justice Society of America: Golden Age"), would be either Vandal Savage or Per Degaton. I'd have him in the background of the individual movies as the plotter behind the scenes of the action and then take center stage in the end.

I'd do individual movies for Superman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Hawkman and either Dr. Fate or Spectre for a mystic-hero movie.

So, it would be something like:

    Superman: Golden Age
    Wonder Woman: Golden Age
    Batman: Golden Age
    The Flash: Golden Age
    etcetera, etcetera.

This, I think, would have the potential for movies that would be a lot more enjoyable than a series with the modern, rather overpowered versions of the characters. A back-to-basics approach. I would definitely avoid the grimdark way of doing things for this. Bright colors for everything except Gotham City, Art Deco architectural stylings except for the Greek buildings of Paradise Island, so forth and so on. A very vibrant feel is what I'd want them to have.

Downside to this is how many fans are aware of all the details of the Golden Age, followed by the Silver Age reboot then DC deciding to keep the Golden Age versions and starting up the "Earth-2" multiverse stuff. People might scratch their heads in confusion at seeing a young superman in WW2 then still young in a modern age movie.

Vandal Savage as the villain would be great.
  15. Was reading up on Trek 3 and Takei, turns out Takei didn't like the scene with the guard calling him "tiny", but after seeing the scene apologized and agreed that it should stay as it made it more heroic when Sulu decked the guard. Not sure but I think Sulu's line "Don't call me tiny" as he took off with Kirk may have been an ad lib.

Indeed. Some feuds need to end, this is one. Old Trek series was centered on Kirk as he was the Captain. The movies gave Sulu, Chekov, and Uhura some expansion to their characters, and their characters were initially the "token" characters for lack of a better term.

Now there are rumors that Shatner supposedly interfered with Takei getting his own Trek series as Captain Sulu of Excelsior and that allegedly Sulu was to be Captain in the third movie, but these are only rumors.

Nowadays the feud seems to have erupted with George's coming out and Shatner allegedly not being all that accepting of it. Shatner is claimed to have tried to reach out to George to chat about things and been allegedly rebuffed each time.

So who knows? They should just agree to disagree and walk away from it.
  17. http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2011/09...ook/?hpt=hp_t2

The article quotes one of Shatner's comments in the book about George not being able to handle being 2nd/3rd/4th/5th bananna to him in the old Trek series and movies, as well as a few comments about George's wedding. The original Trek pretty much was centered on Kirk since after all he was the CAPTAIN, with Spock, McCoy as main support characters with Scotty slowly moving up as a supporter.

Apparently George's wedding is what reignited the feud as George states Shatner was invited and didn't show up, but Shatner claims he never got an invitation and also claims the wedding was a publicity stunt.

And the feud continues......at this late date for them both, I would think they would both just agree to disagree and part company on neutral terms, each agreeing to respect the other but to leave each other alone. That would seem to be the best solution.

I don't know whether it's that they're just not involving the right people to get things done or WB is being too heavy handed with the translations to film, but it's really not as difficult to put out quality movies about these characters as they're making it.
To be honest I don't think it is the right people in charge. Remember the initial reaction when Sam Rami was announced to helm the Spiderman movies? I think understandably skeptic was a good description, but turns out Sam is a major fan of Spidey that understands and respects the character, and history but also understands that somethings that work in the comics don't work as well on the big screen. Sam also gets the right cast for Peter and MJ and they all worked well together and made a successful trilogy. Spiderman 3's problems were that Marvel was insisting that Venom be in it despite that not being part of the plan, and of course dancing Peter. (then again in keeping with the rating of the movie they couldn't have Peter get too violent when he wore the symbiote).

Look back at the assorted Bat-films. Tim Burton had a good grasp of the characters, then comes Joel Schumaker for Batman Forever and Batman and Robin.....bad choice of director, too many characters, weak plots.....Then years later we get Batman Begins and Dark Knight, both very well done.

Superman Returns: the "spiritual successor" I believe it was referred to regarding the first two films and ignores 3 and 4, but the plot was basically the same as #1, while making Superman into a stalker regarding Lois and the "super kid" just didn't work. Lois is still under the effect of the "Jedi mind kiss" from Superman 2, knows that Superman is the father but still can't "Connect the dots" regarding figuring out that Clark is Superman?? Yuck. Plus of course the long quest to find someone that can replace Chistopher Reeve in the role...
  21. A pal of mine were debating this in game the other day. If someone were to make a Hercules inspired toon (the mythological Hercules NOT the Marvel comic Hercules), should it be a brute or a tank?

Obviously super strength and perma rage, but should it be:

    1. Inv/SS tank?

    2. SS/Inv brute?

    3. SS/WP brute?

    4. WW/SS tank?

    5. Shield/SS tank?

    6. SS/Shield brute?

We ruled out things like sword/shield scrapper since Hercules is all about strength.

Last I read DC is pretty much going to copy Marvel's movie formula. Batman movies get rebooted after the next Dark Knight movie and they will interlink it with other movies to lead up to Justice League.

However given how unwell Superman Returns was and how Green Lantern wasn't too well received (i blame Ryan Reynolds), and how tough it is to get anyone to play Superman (plus all the superman lawsuits with the creator estate), I really don't see DC pulling it off as well as Marvel has done. Also Wonder Woman has been a project difficult to get off the ground as well.

I recall seeing the ad on tv for Star Trek III that had this wonderful line, "Be here for the final voyage of the starship Enterprise!" over footage of the saucer section going boom and the ship dropping from orbit... I was hanging out with a friend when we saw that, a huge Trek nerd friend. He slumped to the floor.
