Quote:Yes I have seen the 90's cartoon and wish it would be officially released on DVD in the states. You ever see the 90s cartoon of Spider-Man when he gets the symbiotic suit? It shoulda have been like that Spidey. Cocky willing to stand up for himself from Flash not afraid to to knock the ever loving snot out of Rhino.
If the 90s cartoon could do it without turning Peter into a psycho path(which I own on DVD) the movie should have been able to do it to.
Also we did get a more cocky Peter in the third movie when he decides that his relation with MJ is indeed over thanks to Harry. Then he's seen acting more arrogant, confident, etc. Look how he demanded Brock's former job and pay from Jameson, or how when suited up in the black costume he smashed Brock's camera, and how he was kicking the sand out of the Sandman when they fought and how he basically used terminal force against the Sandman by getting him washed away. He thinks he has gained revenge/justice for his Uncle Ben, not quite realizing what a line he'd crossed until he told Aunt May about the fight and saw how shocked she was at Spidey's behavior and how she told Peter that Ben wouldn't want them to seek revenge and how revenge poisons the soul etc etc etc etc.
I just chalk up the dancing as an exaggerated tribute to the Fonz from Happy Days. -
Quote:Look at it like this: there are somethings that can and cannot be in a movie to have a PG or PG13 rating. Had they had "evil Peter" in Spidey 3 get too violent or attempt to **** some girl or something like that, it would have been more likely to be rated R, and also would have been about as a big desecration to the character as Marvel having Peter and MJ make a deal with Mephisto. It was written and directed by Raimi who am I suppose to blame?
Sorry but as bad as Venom was in Spiderman 3 having Peter get up and do a song and dance was just so much worse.
So....dancing Peter or psychotic violent Peter? -
Quote:That's how Batman first suited up in the flashback part of Mask of the Phantasm. In Batman Year One he went out disguised as an old veteran and got into a fight with some crooks, was wounded and got back to the mansion. As he's bleeding he's trying to think of how to make criminals afraid. As he stared at a picture of his father a bat flew in to the room and perched on it and Bruce smiled....."I shall become a bat" and then rang for Alfred to come and stitch him up.To be fair that IS how batman started before he doned the cowl in Batman TAS or was it Mask of the phantasm? (same thing really)
I remember people saying in Raimi we Trust after Spidey 1 and 2 hit the scene.. and how many turned on him after part 3.
This part three just seems off to me..
/emote wait and see.
As for Spidey 3, the executives above Rami are to blame for shoving Venom into the movie. -

I like his dialogue when Cap and Tony are arguing.
"You people are so petty......and tiny!" -

Quote:I think that was an Xmen annual or something, can't be sure. However it was at the time that Storm was stripped of her mutant powers and I think it was Loki that approached her with a hammer that he had created to be similar to Thor's. It was not Mjolnir.Didn't Storm wield it at one point? It may have only been in a What If...? It's been a long time so I don't recall...
When Marvel and DC did the whole Amalgam thing, as I recall Thor was beaten and his hammer was on the ground and Wonder Woman was able to wield it and she fought Storm.
In the JLA/Avengers, towards the end THOR tossed the hammer to Superman who wielded it in the final fight and after the fight was done the hammer was on the ground. Superman went to get it for THOR and couldn't budge it. THOR picked it up and stated that ODIN has a provision in the enchantments that in times of great need or something like that, THOR can allow another to wield the hammer if necessary. He assured Superman that he was a good wielder of the hammer. The fact that Superman couldn't normally pick it up I thought was a bit surprising, but then again its never been disclosed what criteria makes someone "Worthy". Perhaps the hammer sensed Superman had too much power already and thus was unworthy of the hammer? Just a thought. -
Quote:Ah but an android or robot isn't classified as a living being in the eyes of ODIN who enchanted the hammer. A robot CAN lift the hammer but not receive its power.Wikipedia adds Spider-Man 2099 to that list. There are also some non-canon examples, including Rogue (after absorbing Thor's power), Superman and Wonder Woman (in a DC/Marvel crossover). There are also a ton of androids in the Silver Age who were able to lift the hammer after imitating Thor...but the Silver Age was a strange time.
The Asgardian robot/construct the DESTROYER has picked up the hammer (and also damaged it once)
The robot Air Walker, herald of Galactus also.
Thus by such a defintion, the android Human Torch, the Vision, and Machine Man could also lift the hammer but not gain its power. -
Quote:Nor would I assume she would succeed but as she is an assassin I would presume she is good at making sure she can catch a target unawaresI suppose the argument is boiling down to whether Black Widow is going to have a chance to snipe Buffy or not. Even there I would not automatically assume Black Widow would succeed. *shrugs*
In a hand to hand fight it would come down to Widow's greater experience and training vs the Slayer.
David beat Goliath
Batman defeated Superman (albeit Batman had YEARS to prep in case they ever fought)
Luke blew up the Death Star
Anakin blew up the Droid Army Control Station in Ep 1
Wedge+Lando blew up Death Star 2
Skill, training, and yes even luck (or the Force) can trump power. Granted that doesn't always happen of course.

This is an extended version of what we've seen so far of Loki talking to Stark, notice the wrist devices that Tony clicks on as Loki is distracted. From what I saw in the first trailer there is a quick scene of Loki hurling Tony through a window, which I will presume happens at the conclusion of their little "Talk". The wrist devices Tony is clipping on could either be a communicator to alert Fury and the Avengers, or summons the Iron Man armor to him which is likely what will save him from a fatal fall.
Just guessing of course. -
Quote:I don't think he has ever tried to but there have been so many issues over so many years that I cannot recall if he ever tried to lift the hammer of THOR.Has The Thing ever tried to pick up Mjolnir? You'd think he'd be able to.
Beta Ray Bill is worthy
Don Blake has his unique link/merged relationship with THOR
Eric Masteron may not have been worthy at first but eventually proved himself worthy before and after he was merged with THOR, and later took over for THOR when THOR was "exiled". After THOR's return he entrusted Mjolnir to Eric so that he could defend Earth while THOR retired to Asgard.
Dargo K'tor: an alternate future human who was deemed worthy. The THOR cult he was part of kept hoping for one to come and claim the hammer and fight the evil corporation, Dargo's attitude was that they didn't need some stupid hammer and that humans should fight their fights themselves. Loki's forces attacked to claim the hammer and Dargo instinctively reached for a weapon and grabbed the hammer without realizing it and was transformed.
Steve Rogers, the original Captain America has wielded the hammer twice. Granted both times were emergency situations but still he is worthy of the power of Mjolnir.
I know of no one else as being confirmed as being worthy of the hammer. -

Quote:Indeed, I don't recall bulletproof skin or wolverine level regeneration powers as part of the Slayer's abilities. As cute as this scenario is I'd just have to ask why the vampires haven't ever tried to do this.
Granted Buffy's pals revived her from the dead at least once so it could likely be done again.
As to not coming back from a tactical nuke explosion, well Spike was at ground zero of a rather catastrophic event as I recall, then came back as a ghost and later was restored to flesh and bone, albeit still a vampire with a soul.
As tough as Buffy is, and yes she has strength and speed to her advantage, Black Widow is a highly trained covert op/espionage agent/assassin with a few decades of experience.
Skill vs. power -
Quote:Far as I'm concerned it's come down to this: fix them or remove them. If the removal option is done, then give out either some new type of badges in their place or else about 9999 market points to try to pacify the players that will be angered by badge removal. Or instead of automatic rewarding of the badges, set up a way that we can manually claim them.At this point I almost wonder if they've even tried to fix it. *shrugs*
I understand that it's probably not an easy problem to deal with but it's been almost 7 months since CoH:Freedom broke it. At this point you'd think if they've been trying to fix it all along and can't they'd be at the "Plan B" stage where they'd be considering drastic measures like either changing their requirements or removing them completely from the game. I mean what's the point in leaving a series of badges in the game that never work again for anyone?
Maybe they could just come up with something simplistic like "give us a badge for every year since you first activated your account". Sure that doesn't account for whether or not you've been an active player every day since you created your account or not, but at least that's an easy way to handle these currently broken badges. -
Quote:Thor #390 was the issue. Agents of Seth the Egyptian god of death attacked THOR on Earth at Avengers HQ. Steve Rogers was there in his identity of "The Captain" since he had recently been forced to step aside as Captain America. He did at one point but I don't think he wielded it so much as he just got really pancaked, picked it up and lobbed it.
They fought the invading army together and were winning until THOR was separated from his hammer. The leader of the invaders of course tries to lift it and can't so he starts blasting THOR and is hurting him badly. Cap knows THOR needs his hammer and reaches for it wondering how if the other guy couldn't lift it then how could he lift it but still was determined to try. As he reaches for it he gets dogpiled but then comes up swinging the hammer and knocks the enemies away from him. He feels the power of the hammer but realizes it is meant for THOR and throws it to THOR. THOR was relieved to have his hammer returned but also surprised and greatly impressed that Cap was able to wield the hammer. His already great respect for Cap increased considerably.
In the last issue of Fear Itself, THOR is fighting the Serpent using Odin's armor, the Odinsword and his hammer. He gets separated from his hammer which crash-lands near Cap. The civilians and the heroes are all worn out and some feel defeat is inevitable, but Cap just tells the civilians that today they are all Avengers and picks up the hammer and yells Avengers Assemble! Cap then used the hammer in battle against Red Skull's hammer empowered daughter, Sin. Cap kept the hammer with him after the battle was done until THOR's memorial when he returned the hammer to him.
Steve Rogers is the only hero on Earth that is confirmed as being able to wield Mjolnir. -

Joss thinks that in a fight Buffy the Vampire Slayer could beat Natasha Romanov/Black Widow of the Avengers.
Sorry Joss, but I have to disagree. Buffy may have the strength and speed to fight vamps, but Black Widow's training is a bit more extensive. -

My two badge seekers are complete, so I'm letting them sit as Rogues with a Hero Morality mission already set to go.
-
I suspect they will always add new blue side and red side badges to......."encourage"......alignment changing.

Rather humorous Dr. Pepper commercial with Stan Lee showing up in it.

Also the link contains some minor data on the upcoming Spiderman reboot, and also states that Iron Man 3 appears to be based on the Extremis storyline back in 2006 and that Ben Kingsley is in final talks to be the villain.......possibly a seriously revamped Mandarin?
To be honest, I'm not sure I want the Mandarin in the movies. Yes, the first movie mentioned the "ten rings" which is a major mandarin hint but I'd rather not see that villain. Perhaps Ben Kingsley is playing Justin Hammer Sr, thus we get the ruthless corporate villain that Hammer had always been in the comics and the Hammer we had in IM2 was merely Justin Hammer Jr.? -
Quote:Father and I pretty much agree on these systems.Let's break the three kits down.
Case - All three use the same case which only has one rear fan, but spots for a lot more fans.
Optical Drive - All three use the same and it's reasonable.
Motherboard - A good basic Z68 based motherboard however the 2nd x16 slot is really x4. Useable somewhat for AMD Crossfire X but totally not compatible with nVidia SLi.
CPU - First two use the i5-2500K while the third uses the i7-2600K. The 2600K costs a lot more but is only 100MHz faster but does have hyperthreading so it appears to have 8 cores. Great if you are squeezing out performance when it comes to compressing video or other highly multi-threaded app but not a lot more bang when it comes to gaming.
Memory - The first two kits use DDR3-1333 while the third uses DDR3-1600. Patriot is a lesser well known memory company when compared to Corsair but it's still good memory. DDR3-1600 is only going to be 1-3% faster than DDR3-1333 in actual apps.
Drive - The first and third kit use a conventional 7200RPM SATA II 1TB hard drive from Seagate while the second kit uses a 120 GB SATA III SSD from Patriot. Other than the obvious size differences the SSD will give you a much better storage experience shaving 10s of seconds off of boot and load times. The Patriot Pyro does get good reviews so it's not like Tiger is sticking you with some dog of an SSD.
Video card - Only the first kit includes one which makes it the only real gamer kit here. The HD 6870 is a reasonable video card with performance that falls in between the GTX 560 and 560Ti.
Power Supply - This is where all three kits fall on their swords. The first kit includes a PSU that I would swap out as soon as I can. Diablotek has a bad reputation. The other two kits use the Ultra LPS series of PSUs which have a better but hardly stellar reputation. Ultra is TigerDirect's own brand so it doesn't surprise me they include it in these kits but kit one's inclusion of a DiabloTek is a crime. It's like getting a vacation package that includes a non-stop flight on a nice airline, 5 nights in a nice hotel and a Yugo as your car rental.
So the first kit is a complete gaming system but includes a PSU I would expect to go POOF within a year.
The second and third kits are missing a video card, which is fine if you hate AMD video cards. The second has a fast SSD but limited storage while the third kit has a faster CPU and memory but for a premium price but rather limited performance gains for gaming.
My advice: purchase the components you want and build your own. I just finished assembling my new powerhouse PC and it is a blast
All graphics settings on Ultra Mode, runs smooth as silk. -
Quote:Yeah Stan did pretty much create THOR to be the one to take down the Hulk. The only problem is that THOR hasn't had as much evolution and power increases as the Hulk has had.Thor was specifically created to be the comic book character more powerful than the Hulk. I'm a Hulk fanboy, but when the two fight I gotta give the win to Thor. Stan Lee created him just to win that fight.
As for the movie, it's looking good. I'm trying not to watch any more trailers so I'm not spoiled too much. But I caught the 'Hulk Smash' trailer on TV.
If THOR was still King of Asgard and had access to the Odinpower as is his birthright, then he could and should be able to handle the Hulk with ease since THOR would be a skyfather, case in point: Zeus thoroughly schooled the Hulk when they fought.
THOR as the God of Thunder should still be able to handle the Hulk given that he has centuries of battle experience as well as the elements at his command, but THOR's strength is at a fixed level and only increases when he wears his belt of strength or has the Odinpower in him. HULK's strength just keeps on increasing with his rage.
Hulk has been belted by gamma rays many times over his existence and each dosage has a tendency to make him stronger and stronger. Now add in the fact that he has more intelligence in him then many fans are accustomed to and he can use his power with more tactics then just "HULK SMASH".
As a god of thunder, THOR should always be above the Hulk, but writers have forgotten that and the Hulk has evolved. -
Another of geekdom's founding fathers..... .RIP
