It just reeked of being an outlet for him to provide a tone, characters, plot, a story continuation from the Reeves films, etc, that he wanted to bring to life, and he got what he wanted, but I didn't.

Marvel did a great job making movies that I (and apparently others) wanted to see, and that is the core of their success.

PS Enough with Lex Luthor for a while, please.
This. WB and Hollywood didn't want to move beyond Christopher Reeve and I respect that to a point, but the movie was basically an expanded and recycled Superman 1.

As to Luthor, I don't mind if he's around just enough of the stupid real estate plans.

Superman 1: sink California and then move in and corner the market as it were in real estate.

Superman 2: he wants to rule Australia......okay.......

Superman Returns: terraform Earth with Kryptonian tech and corner the market in real estate......

Come on Lex, you can do better then that.

Well for the first movie the crazy exotic would be the miniature arc reactor. Tony refused to let the engineers study it, and Stane yells at the one guy "TONY STARK BUILT THIS IN A CAVE WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!" The guy's response "I'm sorry, but I'm not Tony Stark!" (they should have added "So there! nyah!" to that line)

IM 2 shows other countries and Hammer trying to make armor tech but they don't have the miniaturization that Stark brings to tech, and they don't have a mini arc reactor for a power source. Vanko comes along with his own mini-arc reactor tech, but the drones were still Hammer tech and thus while tough they were not up to War Machine or Iron Man tech levels. Only sheer force of numbers made them such a major threat but when it came down to crunch time, Rhodey and Tony do the double visor clank and proceed to rip the drones up. Vanko then arrives in his Crimson Dynamo/Whiplash armor and he is a major threat that took both of them to stop.

Stark now should still have the miniature arc reactor tech but now he also has the new element that he made from his father's notes, so he still has the superior power source that no one can reproduce at this time. Combine that with the fact that no one can miniaturize circuits and weapons like Tony can and Iron Man is still the superior tech.

If Tony ends up supplying standard sized arc reactors to the world to provide clean energy and remove nuclear power then he may open the door for someone to to be able to study and miniaturize it, but the secret of the new element that powers it is Tony's only.

She went to Juliard Drama and has done a lot of Shakespeare, so she has some acting chops. And she has the look and the build. She's 5' 8" and not "too skinny."

While she has some pretty good credits, her name is not big enough to headline a big budget film, so they need some other big names in supporting roles. I would love to see Lynda Carter as Hippolyta. That would draw a lot of attention to the film, and Lynda still looks damn good.
Lynda Carter making an appearance in a Wonder Woman movie is inevitable

Lucy Lawless and Charisma Carpenter I wouldn't have minded seeing as Wonder Woman as they have the height, build and I think enough talent to play the part. But I think too much time may have passed for them both to now play such a role.

    Gadzooks.
    A few things:

    1. It is only a suggestion, please remember that.

    2. Some people do not like badges being removed after they obtained them. Go to the beta forums and read the negative feedback about the original plan to remove the Statesman Pal badge and retcon it into Positron's Pal. After all the negative feedback they simply added Positron's Pal and said to get Statesman Pal you must run Maria's old arc in Ouroborus and run her current Hero's Epic arc to get the Positron Pal badge. A wise solution. Also I would remind everyone of the "great badge purge" when they yanked away many AE badges and the uproar that occurred.

    3. The Vet badges used to be what unlocked/provided Vet rewards before it was changed to the tokens so yes the vet badges did give something as well as show how long one had been playing.

    4. If the Vet badges are removed, there will be those that want some form of compensation be it Paragon Points, or something else. Maybe restore some of the lost AE badges for us to get?

Also perhaps a VIP badge and a Premium badge to show your account status. The badge of course would have to change if one activates or shuts down their subscription.

The Hal Jordan we got in the GL Movie was basically Hal Jordan from Emerald Dawn. A bit down on his luck as a pilot, hung up on what happened to his father, not well liked by many characters for many reasons but still a hero on the inside. Then comes the ring from Abin Sur, then soon after Hal learns a few things from his ring's memory bank then the ring warps him to Oa where he undergoes training by Kilowog. He saved Oa, the GLC and the Guardians by beating a yellow armored creature called Legion and by merging with the Central Battery to fully pull Legion off of Oa and into space where the GL's contained and took it away. The Guardians at the end of Emerald Dawn stated that Abin Sur found another like himself, intelligent, strong willed, opinionated.....

Basically the GL movie was Emerald Dawn with Parallax in place of Legion, and Hal learning that courage/will power trumps fear. The dialog could have been far better, giving us the Hal from Emerald Dawn was a mistake, and also Ryan Reynolds as Hal was a BIG mistake.

I still need to see the BLu Ray extended cut version and see if that helps it or not.

FYI: This issue, while seemingly simple, is actually very complicated. It involves not only development time from Paragon but also development time from PlayNC in Austin and potentially support from Seattle. This is not a task that would be easily accomplished and would involve a significant investment of time. This, along with the complexity of how to actually award the badges under the new system (annual badges just *don't work* under the new business model as years subscribed are not tracked in the same manner), are the major roadblocks preventing this from being resolved anytime in the near term.

As an additional FYI, additional CS tickets should not be filed regarding this issue. While I do understand that this may be disappointing to some of you, unfortunately no amount of appeals will fast track this project.

Thanks and my apologies to have to be the bearer of bad news.
Would it be better to just remove the yearly vet badges and provide some form of compensation such as for example 1000 paragon points per badge lost including ones that we should have had?

Or as an alternative: during the Winter Event one could use Candy Canes and some inf to craft the badges? We can already craft badges that were specific to prior winter events, would adding the vet badges or anniversary badges to this system be problematic in terms of coding?

Just tossing out some ideas....and thanks for your input Zwill

BUT, it depends on whether the Livewires characters were created under a work-for-hire contract or as creator-owned characters. Marvel is much less likely to use Livewires material if they have to share any proceeds with someone else.

Apparently Warren Ellis isn't even receiving any credit for the Extremis elements of the movie since he wrote that storyline as a work-for-hire and has no ownership claims to it at all. (Which Ellis is perfectly fine with and understood when going into it. He does mention that it's also why he generally avoids work-for-hire gigs in comics.)
I suspect his name will at least be in the credits of the movie just like Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Bob Layton, JIM STARLIN (creator of THANOS).........

I suspect the BluRay will contain all the cutscenes as viewable bonuses from the main menu while the standard DVD will only contain some of the cutscenes.

With potential Disney money in the offing, Marvel could conceivably get the FF back, but Fox will never sell the X-Men.

What amazes me about how bad Superman Returns was is that it was directed by Bryan Singer, who did such a great job with X-Men I, II, and First Class. Maybe the Man of Steel movie will turn things around.
Main flaws of Superman Returns that basically wrecked the movie:

    1. Wasn't production rushed for whatever reason? Presumably due to the lawsuits and possible loss of rights.

    2. They just don't want to escape the shadow of Christopher Reeve. Yes he set the standard for Superman, yes his accident and years later his death were tragic, but Routh was basically acting like Christopher acting like Clark and Superman. Nice performance but then when coupled with the fact that the story was basically Luthor recycling his plan from Superman 1, the fact that the super kid shouldn't exist, Lois still under the effect of the Superman-Jedi mind kiss and still can't do the math about who Superman is.........UGH.

Reasons for why the super kid shouldn't exist:

    1. In the theatrical version: Superman gets depowered which presumably altered his DNA so that exposure to the yellow sun of Earth wouldn't recharge him. He and Lois then spend quality time together, so even if the kid were conceived would he have super powers at all? Also I would think that the pregnancy would have helped Lois regain her memories in full of the events of Superman 2, including Clark's identity. Instead she only remembers that Superman is the father and can't figure out Clark is Superman????? The kid was a bad plot idea for Superman Returns.

    2. In the far better Donner version, Superman does the time warp at the end. He goes back to before the phantom zone is smashed and makes sure it doesn't get wrecked thus Earth is never attacked or conquered and he also makes sure that Lois doesn't do the math, thus they never spent time at the Fortress, Superman was never depowered and the Fortress itself would be undiscovered by Luthor and not destroyed at the end by Superman. So the kid is never conceived in this version.

One thing that Marvel did right was the way they produced their movies (with the exception of the unFantastic four). They made a movie, that happened to have a super hero in it. The movie quality was worth while, even if it didn't have that hero at the center of it.

Bale has said he won't play batman again after this movie. The actor portraying superman changes like the seasons in a year, and lets face it ryan reynolds is just a dope. They would need to recast the entire ensemble of the JL to make it worth while in my opinion.

Get it right DC! And catch up to Marvel!! With movies AND quality!!
I agree that Ryan Reynolds was NOT a good choice for Hal Jordan.....maybe as Kyle Rayner but not Hal.

After three movies, one cannot blame Bale for not wanting to suit up as Batman again, also I don't think that the Nolan/Bale Batman would work as part of the JL. They have tried to keep this Batman as anchored as possible to the real world in terms of tech and foes and let's face it, JL foes can get pretty out there at times, Legion of Doom, Darkseid.....

As to Superman, well there are the lawsuits of course, but they have had casting trouble due to:

    1. Christopher Reeve pretty much set the Superman standard
    2. The curse known as stereotyping
    3. The so called Superman curse given what happened to George Reeves and Christopher Reeve
    4. Finding someone that projects the presence of Superman when suited up. When Christopher Reeve suited up as Superman many could look at him and say "Yep, he's Superman". Brandon Routh also had the "superman look" when suited up, not quite as good as Christopher but still not bad.

Remember long ago when Tim Burton was planning a Superman movie with Nic Cage in the role? Can't fault Cage for his enthusiasm, but he is NOT Superman.

Do an image search on Google using keywords Nic Cage Superman and get ready for some laughs......

As to stereotyping, how many actors and actresses could claim their career was both made and destroyed at the same time by stereotyping? Of course it also poses the question: was the character or show they were on so iconic either in a serious or corny way, or did they just not have the talent to break free of stereotyping?

So, how many politicians or lawyers or judges would really think that they could haul Stark or any of the Avengers into a court to answer charges of any kind? Of course trying to get the HULK into a court would be fun to watch........

Lawyer asks Banner a question, Banner smiles and turns into the Hulk...."Can you repeat the question please, puny lawyer?"

Also I suspect a large public outcry would occur if Tony or the Avengers were brought up on charges. "They saved the world and you want to prosecute them????"

Pretty much the opposite. If I was that drunk ONCE in a CAR I would be disqualified from driving. The suit is far more dangerous than a car. Vanko has proved that the suit tech can be reproduced by foreign powers, and therefore need to be in the "right hands" which would be the US army, at least in their opinion (and probably that of a court of law).
As much as I respect the military, I do not think I would want them mass producing fully functional Iron Man/War Machine armor for the soldiers. Making armor of the same or similar alloy for protection of the soldiers yes, but full flight or repulsor capacity or weaponizing them as War Machines? A bit too much power I would think.

Plus the military would have to risk reverse engineering the arc reactor in the War Machine suit to see if they can reproduce it. If they fail and the arc reactor is wrecked in the process, then the War Machine armor becomes useless.

*a more plausible legal description for the suit than "prosthesis".

That's not the original Mk2 armour on display.
Well Tony I suspect trusts Rhodey with the suit, it would be the people above Rhodey that Rhodey answers to that Tony would have a problem with. That could cause problems with them that could lead Tony to trying to reclaim or else slag the armor.

Aircraft could be used to define the armor, but prosthesis could also apply. The armor is designed to compensate for Tony's injuries be it his damaged heart or long ago in the comics when a nutty ex-girlfriend shot Tony and left him unable to walk. He eventually retools the armor to allow him to walk, run, etc while suited up.

Might be better to go without Batman and Superman though, like the old TV movie did.
A JL movie doesn't have to have solo movies that lead to it. However Marvel has shown that such a thing can work.

Now let's look at DC comics and their perpetual reboot cycle that has led to the Nu52/NuDC where the characters are "re-imagined" yet again........solo origin movies that link to a JL movie seem to be more necessary due to DC's constant reboots.

As to a JL movie without Superman or Batman.....I don't think many fans will take to that idea, at least one of them must be in it.

Green Lantern: well there are 4 GL's from Earth in the GLC, Hal, John, Guy and Kyle. Any of them could be tapped for a JL movie. Alan Scott is on Earth 2 so he's out of the running.

Aquaman: the victim of many jokes and derision, yet in JL/JLU that was an Aquaman that one should respect. He was written as the KING of the seas and it showed. Also I always chuckle when they fought the Ultimen and the water one was surprised his attack didn't faze Aquaman. "King of the seas, remember?"

The Flash: Well Barry is the Flash and since NuDC/52, I don't think Wally exists yet. Jay Garrick is back on Earth 2 so he's out of the running. So Barry Allen will likely be the Flash for any movies.

Wonder Woman: a character that hasn't had any luck getting a movie past the script stage, much less casting. She may be best brought in during the actual JL Movie itself.

Martian Manhunter: he could also be worked in during the JL movie itself, I honestly can't see him able to support a solo movie.

Hawkgirl or Hawkman: either could likely join in a JL movie but I can't see either or both in solo movie.

Superman and Batman: how many battles were won simply because either or both of them were on team?

Now it's clear that SHIELD (which has far more power than it constitutionally should) could intervene, but it would be more in character for Nick Fury to broker a compromise solution.
The governments attempts prior to Tony drunk in the armor could be questioned. The Senator launches an inquiry, Tony shoots the inquiry down by showing evidence that no other country is close to making a version of his armor. Later after the Whiplash attack, the Senator spearheads another attempt to get the armor that results in Rhodey warning Tony that the military is going to come and seize the armor by force. Tony wasn't drunk or disorderly at this point and I don't feel that the govt. had enough grounds to seize the armor by force.

Rhodey needing to shut Tony down, yeah that needed force.

Tony later sobers up, gets info from Fury and then creates the new element thus finishing his father's tesseract research. He cleanses himself of the paladium poisoning and stops Vanko and his drones, saving the day, discrediting Hammer and gets a medal.

Sometime after that, Tony again shows that he is a hero by fighting alongside the Avengers to save the world itself.

So yes, Tony had a bad moment as it were by being drunk in the armor, but he was dying and he knew it and wanted his last birthday to be a blast. He was competent in the armor prior to that and after that.

I don't see the govt. having much justification to seize the armor, and hopefully Vanko's drone army showed just how dangerous such technology can be when it truly IS in the wrong hands.

But the War Machine armor in the movies is still an Iron Man armor created by Tony Stark and only modified by Hammer. If Tony truly wants to I'm quite sure he can shut down the armor, either by a negator pack frying the circuits or else since the armor runs on software that Tony designed, he could likely remote in and use special access codes to make the armor disengage from the wearer and shut down.

    Control Hybrid?

I've been thinking either the Control core or radial or else assault.
  21. If they use the plot from the pilot episode of the JL/JLU cartoon of the alien invasion and the heroes coming together to repel it that could work.

Superman and Batman team up, they free the captive Martian Manhunter who then telepathically calls for help and gets Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, Flash, and Wonder Woman to arrive to join forces.

From there if this movie is a success they could then do solo spinoff movies.

But I think WB is better off copying Marvel's Movie Formula and have the solo movies build up to Justice League.

In which case since Tony created and possessed the armor at the time Rhodey took it, there has been a major violation of the law.

I would think that Tony and his lawyers could easily make a case for illegal search and seizure, no warrants issued, and point out to the courts that the govt. was infringing on Tony's rights by threatening to take the armor from him at gunpoint.

Well Senator Shandling is pretty much off Tony's back now and has no clout or basis to launch another board of inquisition against Tony thanks to IM2 and now especially the Avengers. It's a little hard to prosecute a guy who saved New York from a NUKE as well as being part of a team that just repelled an alien invasion.

I could easily see an executive order from the Oval Office being issued for the armor to be returned to Tony. Or else Rhodey could always decide to pull a fast one and visit Tony and while out of the suit Tony attaches a Negator Pack from the Armor Wars story line onto it and short it out. Rhodey could then file a report with Tony backing it up stating that it was preprogrammed sabotage by Hammer.

However, after the scene he made at the hearing, his pride wouldn't let him just hand over the suit. So the only option was that Rhodey would have to "take" it. And he had to make a show out of trying to stop him (and failing because he was drunk), or nobody would buy it.

Of course Fury saw right through that. No way in hell someone other than Stark can just put on an Iron Man suit and fly it out of there, not without some major reprogramming. Rhodey must have been on the authorized list of users.
Drunk? Tony was pretty much in alcoholic blackout by that point. Still it's clear that Tony set things up for Rhodey to claim the suit. Also the way Rhodey was operating the suit would indicate that wasn't the first time he suited up. He seemed to have a good grasp on how to move in the suit and fight and access the weapons systems and repulsor rays. Quite likely there was some off screen training.

Due out in stores sometime later this year, the set – according to Amazon – will be a 10-disc set that will include Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D cuts of Whedon’s blockbuster, as well as discs for the five Marvel movies that led up to ‘The Avengers.’ Here are the specifics, from what the site knows so far:

    • Marvel’s The Avengers (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
    • Captain America: The First Avenger (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
    • Thor (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
    • Iron Man 2 (Blu-ray)
    • The Incredible Hulk (Blu-ray)
    • Iron Man (Blu-ray)
    • Bonus Disc – “The Phase One Archives” (Blu-ray)
    • Collectible packaging with exclusive memorabilia from the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Here’s what we don’t know about the set, though: The release date, and the retail price. Both are pretty important, as we’re assuming most who are interested in buying an ‘Avengers’ Blu-ray probably own the two ‘Iron Man’ movies, ‘Captain America,’ ‘Thor’ and ‘Hulk.’ But for a first-timers looking to amp up their collection, this set could be ideal.

Avengers of course will be available on DVD and BluRay on its own.
  25. So more IRON MAN 3 info, including a group that "aims" to be a problem for Tony and perhaps the Marvel cinematic universe.
