  1. Specifically, I want to take the Outcast, which cap out at level 20, and force them to be come higher in level. I don't care that they wont get any additional powers or anything.

I'd like to avoid having to create my own custom group, mostly because of the files space it eats up. Anyone know if its possible to do this?

Should anyone care to try and test out:
CCleaner is a great tool for cleaning out crap, and it also does very respectable work on cleaning crap out of the registry.

Another one I like to use is:
Glary Utilities Also does a respectable job cleaning out internet dirty sneakiness.

I use these regularly and found that not only do they scan faster then Spybot Search and Destroy, they do a better job. They find stuff Spybot misses.

I only want one thing from the new boards. Everything else is fluff.

When I click on a thread topic... I want to be taken to the first post in that thread. Not tossed somewhere seemingly random and forced to scroll up to find the OP.

That's it. Too much to ask?

    Oh and a pony.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um, you can do that here. You see those little page numbers that appear below a thread topic? Yeah, if you click the little 1, guess what happens? You get the first page of the thread.

Why software companies have to make software to do the most common sense things for people just boggles my mind. Use a little logic.

The only thing that really lacks on this board system is the Search function, as stated above.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I have the same problem. Many threads have only one page, so there is no little number to click on. When I go to that thread for the very first time, I almost never arrive at the first post in the thread, and have to scroll up.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There is a column that says 'Replies'. Under that heading it shows how many total posts are in the thread, as well as how many are unread.

When you click on a thread that has only one page, it will take you to the first unread post... You can tell if you'll be taken to the top or not by the 'Post Count (Unread Post Count)' numbers.

    It's not that difficult.

Not to say that the current software sucks like a super-massive black hole.

I'm curious if they are going to continue the practice of not hosting avatars, and if they are going to leave signature images off.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Just for clarity, I was talking about threads I visit for the very first time. So the first unread post should be the very first post in the thread. But often, I don't arrive at the first "unread post" and have to scroll up to it.

And another thing, I'm just curious, why do people play mmo and solo? I assumed the point of mmo's is to play with other people? Solo is way to boring for me. Just my opinion and I know it may suck to some people.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say maybe its cuz most MMO's are not available for offline play. Perhaps if there also an offline version of CoH the solo players would opt for that.

Also, in CoH's case, the solo player still benefits from the online population when it comes to recipes and the market. I'm sure there are a plenty of other reasons.

I like to team, yet there are times I'll pop myself into hide and solo just cuz I don't feel like teaming at that time.

I just was wondering, does anyone else get irritated when u finally get into a team, u do 1 or 2 missions, and then u have the "Incredible Shrinking Team" happen? What I mean is u do a couple of mishes with a really good/well-balanced group, and then the people whose mishes u did just leave, without saying anything, yer team just shrinks. To me that is kinda disrespectful and irritating. I am sorry, i had to vent.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I know full well what you mean. I find it even more annoying to be invited to a team that is part way thought a mission, then dissolves when that mission is over.

When I lead a team, and it's nearing the end of the night for me, I wont invite more players to the team if it's only going to disband after the next mission. Whoever ends up with the star can do that after I leave.

Personally, (and I know this is not going to be a popular idea) I think you should reroll, and start from scratch. Play each level with actual game content and NO AE. This will help you learn how to use your powers, and figure what kind of circumstances work best for what kind of attacks, and what enhancements to buy. There are stores to buy enhancements other then Wentworths. Some are origin specific meaning they sell enhancements specifically for your origin.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Or do the AE content instead of "actual game content," because if it's in the game, it's now "game content." BUT yhu would need to do it differently.

The AE is not inherently evil and there is nothing wrong with doing AE missions. Doing AE missions isn't the problem. The problem is doing them exclusively to level quickly, not training as you level, and not slotting (including FILLING said slots) and playing with your new powers as you go. Teaming with people only doing AE missions and letting you go along for the ride without pulling your own weight is also part of the problem. (And if you teamed with anyone, you were clearly not pulling your own weight becase now you're getting you butt handed to you by Tsoo, which max out 20 levels beneath you.)

Anyone you teamed with probably thought they were being helpful, but they did you a disservice. Find some teammates who allow you to be challenged and teach you how to rise up to those challenges.

I've been playing the AE missions on only my level 50 characters and there are a lot of really good and fun missions in there - some I did last night rival anything the Devs have published. Please don't assume the problem issues directly from the AE or even the AE content. It's not all farm missions and some people, myself included, have put a lot of time and effort into actual story arcs and missions. Last night I played @Wrong Number's Have a Blap, Blap, Blappy Day Kids! arc and @fuzon's A Day in the Life of...Dr. Aeon arc. Both are creative, well-written, and a lot ot fun. I would highly recommend them to anyone, new and vet players alike. (Though I think they're both over level 25.)

    [/ QUOTE ]
I have to agree that AE is not all evil. There are many folks out there who do put effort into actual stories and not farms. It would be horribly unfair to them to suggest AE should be entirely avoided.

However, I do believe that the new player should run regular content for the sake of learning. Currently, the problem with new players and AE is that it is difficult to find a team that is not farming. I'm not saying there are no teams that don't farm, just that the overwhelming number of teams in AE are farming.

Farming is counter intuitive to learning, case in point, the original post in this thread. It would serve the new player better to run regular content over AE to avoid the farm teams, so they can learn what they need to learn. Once they have the hang of it, then by all means head to AE.

Ok, I will try to make this clear for everyone..........

I do not like to keep repeating myself, such as i answered Tyger and Laxx in about my second post, and i do not answer to insults (AGAIN i am repeating myself).

Several people have actually read what i wrote and sent me a simple request for the Rommy Quiz and i have answered them......IT IS THAT SIMPLE!

If you listen to the other posters if a new person were to start a mission or TF and team members left, the team and that new person would be unable to finish it, especially if the difficulty level were to high.

    ************************************************

My advice allows them to find out more about the game, ENHANCEMENTS, TEMPORARY POWERS, ACCOLADES, INSPIRATIONS, balancing difficulty to match your teams ability, coming back to a mission when you are more on par with the level of the bad guys from the mission, find friends and how to enjoy more of the games content.

    *************************************************

Most of the posters merely talked about enhancements and at a low level to a new person this will not really help them. Even at mid-level enhancements will not help as it is easy to go to fast and end up with missions that are too difficult. With some builds Psi/Emp for example all the other advice given would not help. My advice will allow them to go up in level and enjoy the missions without even enhancing.

The point is to help new people and the OP, flooding this thread with non-sense (which i expect you will do anyways) is not helpful.

AGAIN i recommend new people read the PLAYERS GUIDE section of the forums for help and advice! Eldandil wrote a wonderful guide that gives a full description of things to do in each level range to find almost all the content in the game. I recommend this for new and vets alike.

    [/ QUOTE ]
See Felecia, this post is a little better. No unnecessary self proclamation of greatness, no unnecessary bragging, no unnecessary self promotion. Had your original post in this thread been like this, your credibility would have not suffered as much.

I still have to disagree with the idea of teaching new players that they don't need to enhance. I can agree that for the first eleven levels, (the Trainer Enhancements levels), enhancements are not all that helpful. DOs and SOs however, do make a significant difference.

I still contend that the low accuracy and damage of running with empty slots throughout the levels would be frustrating enough for the new player that it would very likely turn them off the game.
  9. Side note, Schismatrix I just took a quick look at yer art which I stumbled across from yer siggy. Very cool. And in some strange way... it makes yer avatar make more sense!
  10. The problem is that when a power is activated it has an animation time that will playout before allowing another command to activate, but an emote will not. For instance, if you activate a power that has a 3 second animation, that animation will play out in full and aside from a bug, will not allow another power or animation to interrupt it.

However, emotes can be interrupted. They can be interrupted with powers and other emotes. When you bind the howl emote to activate first then the power, the power is allowed to interrupt the emote.

If you activate the power first, followed by the emote, the animation time of the power may be long enough, (and pretty much all the powers animation times are long enough) to play over the emote animation.

I don't think there is a buffer to hold the emote command and wait for the power command to finish its animation then play the emote command. So you generally wont see the emote play when activated immediately after a power.

If the allowed the emote command to behave like this it could cause players some trouble when in battle. Imaging accidently triggering an emote and have it wait in a que while an attack power finishes. You really want the next thing your Char does is activate its self heal power, but you cant, you have to wait for your char to first bust out a boombox and do a little grooving.

Alright .. here is what I wish to attempt but thus far have not figured out a way .. I come seeking knowledge ..

I wish to .. say .. I am in SG channel .. and I hit my enter key to type something .. for it to also appear in my Coalition channel at the same time and visa versa.

With the membership limit being 150 .. we have made a sister SG to accomodate others that wish to join us .. so in essence we expanded our membership base from 150 to 300.

I find I am typing same thing in both channels and was seeking a way to have what I type go to both.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Whenever I speak in the Coalition Channel, everyone in my SG sees what I've typed. So I don't think there is any reason to send a message to both channels. Coalition alone should be fine.

    Felicia,
I have a few thoughts I’d like to express.
First, some of us have been respectful in our scepticism of your claims. But you just used an all inclusive phrase “you people” indicating that you think everyone in this thread is out of line.

Your post did have some helpful suggestions in it, very true, and I for one would not dispute that. However, it also had some very unhelpful elements to it. I believe it is unhelpful to suggest to a new player to run their character without enhancements. I believe it would be detrimental and detracting to their play experience.

With empty slots, especially after level 20, a player would fail to hit their target so often they would become frustrated. When they do hit, they would do little enough damage that they would likely feel underwhelmed and unimpressed. These things all create a less fun experience which may turn the new player off from the game.

Furthermore, the OP was talking about a blaster. In your post to him, you mentioned “Balance - your powers should have an equal mix of offence and defence, heals if your an emp.” Although, it is possible for a blaster to pick up some defensive powers, is not possible for a blaster to have an “equal mix of offence and defence.”

If you are going to make a claim about how great you are, would it not be more helpful if there was a point to it? I don’t understand how taking the opportunity to brag about how great your Dark Def is helpful to a new player. Your post would have been better received, and held more credibility, had you left out all the self promotion.

I am left to wonder what your idea of “Tanking” is. Because my idea of “Tanking” includes keeping the attention of as many foes as possible on me and off my teammates, and surviving doing so. I still seriously doubt your Dark Def can tank better then any of my tanks.

Not everyone has a character on the Champion server. Transferring a character over there is costly in real money. Starting out a new character is a bit unrealistic since they would have to first get to at least level 35 to join you in an ITF.

It is true that you do not have to prove anything to anyone. However, if you don’t want to undermine your own credibility among the forum readers then you may have to be prepared to back up or prove what you claim. If you are not inclined or prepared to provide the proof of your claims, then you will do your credibility more good by not making the claim in the first place.

Disclaimer: It is common in forums to fail to convey the true spirit or intent of a posting. Reading what someone says lacks the tone of voice and body language the speaker would have had they actually spoke what they posted. Often a posting is viewed as hostile, or in some form an attack. This is not the case with this posting. This is not an attack, nor meant to be in any way disrespectful.

Adult_Swim, There is no reason why the casual player should be short of influence to buy SOs when you need them.
Here’s some easy things to keep in mind.
Exit from SG mode at 24. If your SG has all the bells and whistles they need, and have over a million prestige sitting in the bank, then there is no need to remain in SG mode. When you hit 24, and are still in SG mode a portion of the influence you earn is converted into prestige for the SG. This can actually become a substantial loss of inf for you.

Sell the stuff you don’t need. You get salvage, recipes, and enhancement drops as you play. Take them to the market and look up the prices they sell for on the market. But don’t sell just yet, jot those prices down if you must, then head over to a contact who buys, or a store. Compare the prices. Many salvage items will fetch a much better price at a contact or enhancement store then they do at the Market. Some things will sell for huge amounts more on the market then at any store. Compare often for the best price.

Don’t spend inf on things that don’t help you. Resist spending inf on costumes. When you have more inf then you’ll ever need for enhancements, then worry about your shoes matching your purse. (There’s no actual purses in this game, but you get the point)

Do not plus up enhancements, you simply don’t need to. Let’s say your character is 22, and you have all level 25 SOs in your slots… at 23 you could spend a fortune and plus up those enhancements to 25+ (this would make them effectively level 26 enhancements). Resist doing this. The tiny boost is usually less then 3% overall to the power, which is a majorly small return on a massive investment.

Now at level 27 you can then move up to level 30 SOs. However, doing so means completely replacing your level 25 SOs for level 30s. But, if you can bare to wait until level 28, before you move up to level 30 SO enhancements, you can plus up to 30+ enhancements. There is about a 75-80% chance that your enhancements will become 30+ instead of just 30. (Running with level 25 SOs while at level 27 is fine. There is no game breaking penalty)

Same thing as you level up. Resist buying enhancements just to plus up. Wait until you hit a “plus up level” to move up to the next level of enhancements. Those levels are 28, 33, 38, 43, and 48.

Following these simple inf saving tips will ensure you have enough inf to get you all the way to 50, and have several tens of millions left over.

There are other tips which will net you better gains and savings but call for much more involved work. Like becoming a marketeer. My methods are for the more casual player. Try them out.

    Hope you find this useful.

  16. [ QUOTE ]
Wow, i read only a few pages but i get the impression everyone thinks the problem is build and enhancements?

Any build without enhancements can still solo missions, Except the cape and aura missions. Doing cape mission at level 20 is foolish without high level help.

The problem here is you need to learn to balance your level with your opponents. For example....Level 2 go to contact get your first mission and find out the mission is on the far side of high level 3-4 bad guys. Solution.....take out the hellions around the west side or south side of Atlas to level up (Streetsweeping) to level 3 before doing the mission.

This applies to high level missions as well, if your having a problem there are several things you can do. You will still have problems with certain builds even with enhancements.

Some things to do.....make friends, get on teams, join a LARGE sg.

Streetsweep - each zone caters to a specific level range and areas in the zone has villians ranging from low to high, so walk around and find the right area. I have noticed lowbie villians tend to be around Trains and Zone Entranceways.

Missions - you can have 3 on the go at once, so if one seems a little tough, come back to it after you have gone up a level or two, this actually affects the mission.

Balance - your powers should have an equal mix of offence and defence, heals if your an emp.

Be Prepared: not many do this then are surprised when they are dead. I am often on teams that die alot and i am alone tp'ing and rezzing my teammates. My top 4 characters are all Healers that tank better than most tanks, i am ALWAYS in demand.
That said.....try to keep up your enhancements, i use SO's right up to 50.
Use Inspirations....keep a variety on hand...i keep green(heal),blue(endurance),breakfree(clearmind affects), and a wakie(resurrection) with me at all times.
Temp Powers....get as many as you can for emergencies. Summon Pet Temps are real handy. Low level you can buy temporary powers at WW such as revolver and sledgehammer. Higher level get summon Shivan and Mechs.

Hope this little guide helps someone.

    I AM DIVINE

    [/ QUOTE ]
Personally, I don't think guide is a "new player friendly" guide. If anything, a new player attempting to follow the mantra of solo with zero enhancements would only get discouraged and perhaps leave the game.

True, you can play with no enhancements, but with only a 75% chance to hit even con minions, a chance to hit in the 60% area for Lt. and in the 50% area for bosses, battles would be very long and tedious. This may be fun for you, and maybe even fun for a some other folks. But I have doubts it would be fun for the majority of players.

This idea of playing without enhancements strikes me as something for the well played season vet to experiment with, not a new player just starting out.

Also, foolish as I am, I usually solo the cape mission on both the blue side and the red. No need for a high level help. I've done it with every AT. I admit, I usually lower my diff down to level 1 to solo it, but I solo it none the less. Unless what you actually meant is if you have, at level 20, no enhancements, then I'd have to agree, you probably will need high level help.

Another thing, the OP was talking about a blaster. Your guide suggests that he "should have an equal mix of offence and defence," yet you can't have equal numbers of defense when your building a blaster.

I do agree with you about some things like making friends, get on large teams, finding a... well I'll say GOOD SG rather then Large. But I'm not saying a Large SG is a bad SG.

Unless you have a completely different idea of what Tanking is, I seriously doubt any of your Defs can tank nearly as well as any of my Tanks.

I don't regard being able to survive alpha strikes, large mobs that wipe the rest of the team, or surviving AVs solo as tanking. For me, if I can make a foe, or group of foes forget about you and turn there attention on me, I've just out-tanked you. If I have a large number of foes wailing on me, and you can't peel them off me to attack you, I've out-tanked you. If the AV is directly attacking me and not turning to hit you directly, I've out-tanked you.

I also take the power Taunt for all my tanks. I'm just a firm believer in not relying totally on gauntlet to grab and hold aggro. Soloing missions with a tank, is not tanking, its scrapping with a Tanker. Teaming, and working at grabbing and holding as much of the aggro as possible, in the effort of keeping aggro off the rest of the team (and surviving it) is my idea of tanking.

Excuse me, but perhaps you should look at that post you directed me to. Again. It was pretty much along the vein of telling me what I can and cannot say on a forum. That's BS. I think this is a pretty bad hoax, because clearly he knew where to go to take those screenshots, and it just "never occured to him" that he could move the round things into the round holes? There are stupid people in the world, no doubt, but when you're on the correct tab, in the correct system of manipulation, clearly you could figure out that you're supposed to be doing something with the strange round things at the bottom of the screen. It's blatantly obvious, despite what someone suggested earlier, that he did not take the screen shot while he leveled, because unslotted enhancements are not shown at the bottom when leveling and the screen he showed had that and had the EXIT button. Furthermore, the leveling screen shows the full list of power sets and pools that you are taking.

It would have been a more believable hoax if he had shown us a screenshot of him looking at the "Powers" tab and declaring that as his build. I'm just trying to save people's gullibility by casting in a reasonable shade of doubt. With all the "lol AE sux" threads we have, I have reason to be suspicious.

So after re-reading this, it can clearly be seen that no one is saying what you can or cannot say. But, after thanking the helpful folks of the forums, it does include some direction to only those persons who are not interested in answering, and at worst it offers that direction as a suggestion.

As for Hoax or not. I think it is entirely possible that the OP leveled so fast in AE, that when he did train up, he might have tried to place those level 1 and 2 enhancements into slots meant for enhancement much higher in level. As you know, you can't put level 1 enhancements into level 20 slots.

Was this the case? Maybe, maybe not. Is this a hoax? Maybe, maybe not. Someone asked a question, someone else gave a sincere answer.

    Believe it.
FYI, people could go from 1 to 50 in less than two days before we had AE or double XP weekends. With AE, people were going from 1 to 50 in a couple of hours before the toonsmackage. I see no reason to doubt that a random player could do it in two full days currently.

I believe it's a silly hoax simply because he didn't realize that the round things went into the round holes when he's clearly smart enough to click on the "Enhancement" tab and hit "Manage."

Well pardon me for being skeptical. The First Amendment gives me the right to voice that.

    No one is disputing that.
But when new players are asking questions from other players (and in the correct thread no less) we should aim to contribute to the conversation, not detract from the experience.

I know some folks who adamantly refuse to use the boards because in their opinion "The boards are useless because too many @#$%! like too chime in with crap. Theres to much crap to read through to find the good answer."

We who care about the future of this game should invest in generating a positive experience for the new arrivals.

Your First Amendment is very important. That is beyond any doubt. However, is should also be used wisely and appropriately, and not simply because its there.

good lord. Do games really damper sense that much?

No, these folks arrived at account creation that way.

Congratulations, Azrael. I've written a guide just for you. It's called The New Player's Guide to Life Outside the AE Building. (No joke. It's lengthy and serious.)

Pepsi sucks and is full of pure unfiltered evil. If Pepsi's evil were people it would be China. Pepsi is doing evil lessons with Satan. It is going well, he is a quick study.

Pepsi is the 10th level of Hell. Pepsi is so full of awful that even Chuck Norris cannot roundhouse kick the evil out of it.

Coke is the softdrink equivalent of the second coming. Drinking Coke makes you a better person. If Quebecers drank Coke, we would actually keep them. Hitler liked Pepsi. Pepsi is the favourite in 19 out of 20 terrorists. Pepsi could not be worse even if it went back in time and added it's worseness to itself. It has attained terminal worseness. The black stuff on Supernatural that the demons are made of is a gaseous form of Pepsi. Kids that ate paste in school drink Pepsi. Pepsi is so bad it is practically a government program

    Pepsi is a Nemesis plot.

Wow, was it your entire life's savings you invested in Coke shares?

Are you serious? He was six 2 days ago...and he's posting pics of a 50 he made in two days?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Yes I am serious.
Some folks just don't have the time or circumstances to get to 50 in AE in two hours like so many others do. So he took two days. Either way, in those two days AE messed him up, as it does to all the new players, he learned nothing and has come to the boards with an open mind.

He's not the first new player to think the whole game takes place in a building in Atlas Park. Sadly, he wont be the last.

But at least he came here wanting and willing to learn.

You seem to believe that if a person comes to the boards, asking about what missions to do, and sewer teams, then takes two days to get to 50 in AE can only mean, unequivocally, that the player is a troll and does in fact know what he is doing.

I think that is possible. I also think its possible that a new player can come to the game and level up dozens of toons to 50 in AE and have not one clue as to what an SO is, or that there are zones outside Atlas.

It is important to the game's future to help the new players so they'll feel like sticking around and paying that monthly subscription. Making accusations base on opinion rather then facts would make a much better deterrent then a welcome mat.

Wait. I wasn't calling the OP anything. I think that the thread is a silly hoax because I'm expected to believe that he went from level six to level fifty (based on the OP's post history) in less than 48 hours, which I do not. I do believe you can go from 1-50 in a few weeks and know nothing about the game, in which case I'm sad because the game is pretty much screwed.

If in fact I'm wrong and he DID actually go from 1-50 in a couple of days, then I'm mad because the game is more broken than it ever has been, and that's saying something.

If this thread is a silly hoax (which is what I believe), then kudo's to the OP for presenting a grand bit of satire in a nice creative fasion.

If I'm wrong and he's sincere, then I'm glad he's learning the game.

    Cheers.

Yer a little out of the loop. Getting to 50 from level 1 can be done in a day using the new farm factory that is AE, which the Devs gave us in issue 14. Using some very creative exploits it can be done in about 3 hours. Too few are we who wait for a change/fix.
