    Servers down?

Randomness. The EU site is down for me again, but I'm still logged in the game.

    Servers down?

The servers are up but I can't login. I can't access the EU CoH site, the game says there's a firewall problem, I've rebooted my PC and my router, I simply cannot access anything. What the heck is going on?

Nevermind. Be Broadband was having PMS.
  3. The last thing Paragon Studios want is to alienate people who are not only willing to pay for super boosters, but completely [censored] the servers trying to do so. If you got charged more than once, I'm certain they'll refund you.

Sitting here waiting for the Credit Card purchase page to time out...

Add there it's now timed out... brilliant! I have no idea if the purchase went through or not.

It errored out for me. Check your email. If you have a receipt, you have the code in your account. Just look under "Use a serial code" on your account page.
  5. This reminds me of Die Hard With a Vengeance. Jeremy Irons' tells a radio station that there's a bomb in a New York school, but the police don't know which one. The scene cuts to a telephone centre.

"CHARLIE! Half the [censored] city just called 911!"
  6. CoH doesn't support externally forcing AA while using any of the CoV shaders (that's depth of field and bloom). If you want AA, use the in-game controls. There isn't any way to force the more advanced AA modes without disabling the CoV shaders.

nVidia drivers allow you to 'enhance' antialiasing in a program, taking the areas CoH says need to have AA on them and using a beefier mode like x16. ATi cards don't, I'm afraid.
  7. 12 March? That'd be damn fast. While it's more likely to be in April, Amazon release dates aren't really worth the webspace they're stored on. Remember, these guys had a release date for Did Not Finis.... I mean, Duke Nukem Forever. They also claimed Quake 4 would be out in 2003.

I feel obliged to put my theory back out there that I15 (or I16) is not a normal issue. They've been cooking up something hueg.
  8. We may start seeing this sort of thing if the devs read the post. The reason I think it's such a good idea is because it doesn't need new game systems or code. It's like someone building a magnetron for radar use, finding that it melted his chocolate bar, then building microwave ovens with them.
  9. Becoming invisible doesn't fool any NPC once you've agroed it, pet or not. It simply shouldn't work this way, but it does.
  10. If you run a GeForce and are using the Win 7 beta, upgrade to the very latest Win 7 drivers for your graphics card. Seriously. Don't argue with me, just do it. Go into the device manager and do Update Driver for your GeForce, then allow it to search the internet. That will get you the very latest WDDM 1.1 driver. If that doesn't work, use windows update.

    The performance increase is astounding.

It also solves the issue of horrendous flickering in fullscren mode, witnessed on Vista drivers, and the broken reflections witnessed on earlier Win 7 drivers.
  11. The short of my idea is: put cutscenes onto rooms with only a computer monitor in them, where the archvillain taunts you remotely.

The how? Well, my understanding of cutscenes is that they trigger as soon as you get near the room they're in, triggering the room and all the critters to spawn. Usually, the focus of cutscenes is the Archvillain. But who said it had to be an enemy? Or in fact an NPC of any kind? Why not an entity, like a glowie? You'd then attach NPC dialog to this non-interactive entity, and have it talk.

Instead of trawling through ten floors of enemies and getting a twenty second cutscene, you could have smaller cutscenes dispersed throughout the mission. The AV could taunt you; "You'll never make it to me!" "You should give up now while you have the chance, hero!" and other one-liners, all while you work your way up the map. Having action and dialogue mixed with each other can be a whole lot more effective than the jarring switch between text and action you get now.

It just occurred to me that this is entirely possible to do. It uses currently existing technology, as critters and objects are interchangeable (that's been established elsewhere). It's just using what we have in a new way, like weapon customisation. What say you?

Technically it's a Big Kahuna burger, but that would have been more obscure.

Think you'll find 6 is Sherlock Holmes. And 5 is Jerry Maguire, I think.

I'm going to be completely honest when I say I don't hate the Rikti. The Traditionalists are pretty nice when you get to know them, and they're funny as hell when they've had a few drinks. Now the other day I met one named Hi'Fy, a communications officer with a penchant for human films. When we started discussing them, I couldn't help but laugh at the way he recited famous movie quotes. Here's some, and I hope you enjoy. Feel free to guess which is which and from what movie.

Designation: Buck. Objective: Relations with women.

Food: Royale with cheese. Flavor: Tasty.

Plan: Make him a offer. Refusal: Impossible.

    Your speech: Directed at me?

    Show me: The money!

    Elementary: Dear Watson.

    Necessity: Larger watercraft.

    Admiration: Clever girl.

Gentlemen: Cannot fight here! Location: War Room!

    My name: Hedley.

  17. Really sad to see you go. The communication is really appreciated, and it's a good thing that they still care about the EU side. Whatever happens now, be it a server transfer, server move, server merge, forum merge etc... we won't be shunted to the US servers and have to start from scratch. And that's good.

But still. I'd sooner the Brighton offices not shrink so much.

So Avatea, eh? And she'll be working in the same offices as NCNC? This sounds like a Good Thing for the EU community in the long run. We'll have someone right alongside the dev team speaking for us.
  18. There always seems to be an inter-issue lull in active subscribers. Trouble is, there was a massive gap between I12 and I13, while I13 didn't really bring much to the table. That's the cause for any dip in active players, I can't believe that PvP changes are responsible. We're all waiting for the Architect and beyond.
  19. Decrease the number of cysts in that mish? Sure, maybe to 8. Things get slightly repetitive there, I can see your reasoning.

Weaken Rom? Nah, I like a challenge. I'm not going to bring up the "CoH is too easy" chestnut, but I like fighting an enemy that has a reputation for stopping ITFs in their tracks. I enjoy taking him down and getting the satisfaction of a job well done. I don't like going into combat knowing that I will always win. I like pushing the envelope and going that little bit further. I wager quite a few CoH players share that sentiment, and it is to this group that the high-end TFs are aimed.

I never really found Rom to be discriminatory to certain archetypes or teams. I've ran it a decent number of times, on a scrapper, mastermind, crab spider and most importantly, a warshade. I didn't die on my WS during the Rom fight, and my playstyle could charitably be described as madhouse suicidal. This was on a team mostly made of Brutes. It was a far cry from the radiation / granite combination that people say is the ideal balance for a TF, or any other commonly regarded mix.

I do completely agree that some TFs DO discriminate based on AT. On a LGTF run, we could not defeat the final boss because of his immunity to smashing and lethal damage. I don't mean resistance, I mean immunity, as in attacks dealing nil damage. That's the sort of thing that wants changing, and is the wrong way to make a challenge. In Romulus, we have something that challenges a diverse range of archetypes and teams, without being broken.

Talshak the mystic, (as you may or may not know), walked barefoot most of his career, like most mystics, - which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little due to his remote position down in Grendal’s Gultch in The Hollows, this made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him .... (Oh, deary me!… this is so bad, it's good) .... A super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

  23. Let GR get smashed. Then let him get over the hangover.
  24. If I lose everything on the EU servers, I'm off. No regrets. I will buy DCUO and be happy.

What really hurts is that Ghostraptor was quite literally giddy about the future of this game, teasing us about what's to come. Now his job, or at least the jobs of his co-workers, are in peril.
