Once again corn-holing actual villains into 'helping out for the greater good.' I'm getting real tired of this pseudo-villain crap. I want the devs to take a firm stance and tell us whether or not we'll ever have actual villainy. The most evil thing a villain player has the chance to do is kill Alexis Cole-Duncan, and the Westin Phipps arc. Other than that, it's either "work as some dude's errand boy" or "aid the heroes for the greater good."

The GMs should know better. The devs have said a name purge isn't happening any time soon. The GMs should know that. If you do a forum search, you can find 30+ threads (and that's just a few of them) about this very topic, ranging from years to days ago.

If I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't be here, and if the game didn't continue to evolve in ways I enjoyed, I wouldn't keep playing. But there's a disturbing trend I've noticed over the last couple of years, in which many long term players have violently turned on the game, picking out each and every flaw they can find, all while acting like they're acting in the game's best interests by acting hyper-critical towards it. I'm not saying that criticism of any kind is bad, and a real fan should never point out flaws, but I've begun to feel like the City of Heroes community has fallen into that paradigm of cynicism=intelligence that plagues so many other fandoms.

But at the end of the day, I still find myself really enjoying this game! I like the community, I like the story, I like the design. Could they all be better? Yes, but I've never felt like ignoring the good parts of the game could improve my overall experience in any way. Granted, the increased criticism towards this game has caused me to notice some of the weaker parts of this game and become more critical, but I feel like I'm expected to play this game almost maliciously, looking for flaws at every turn.

So what I guess I'm trying to ask here is, would I really be doing anyone a favor by hating this game? Because I can't really see any benefit of continuing to play a game I hate.
I'll make this as simple as possible: If you don't want to see hate, criticism, and snark related to the game, get off the forums and forget they exist. Seriously. The only thing that's better for stress relief is to stop paying attention to politics.

Just play the game, have fun, and if someone calls out part of the game in protest, forget them. They're not having fun and they shouldn't be trying to impede your own.

  6. Saw this thread, decided to roll with it. Took my Titan/WP Brute out to a small ITF, ended up with everyone but me bailing on the second mission. I knew I didn't have the time or output to take down Reqqy and Rommy, so I stuck myself under the Bridge of Eternal Battle Lag, fired up iTunes and hit shuffle.

    First song?
Burly Brawl, by Juno Reactor & Don Davis.
    Second song?
The Fire & The Fury, by Firewind.
Third (and final since I finished the fight) song?
Invincible, by Two Steps from Hell.

Needless to say I had to run around my house to work off all the adrenaline. Man, that was fun.

I'm gonna have to agree with this. Slick making the claim that it's wrong for CoX's Rhode Island to not be the same as Real Life's Rhode Island is just as absurd as someone suggesting that because CoX has a Well of the Furies, Real Life has a Well of the Furies.

It's a game. Whether you've written a story or not you have to understand that it's a game. It baffles me that someone could get so upset with a geographical difference when the world in CoX is, in many other ways, drastically different from the Real World. The two cannot be compared without a suspension of disbelief.

  10. I'm in love with all of the new stuff. Bought $30 worth of PP just to get two of the token slots. <3

My new Brute focus (Titan/Willpower) now has a gigantic sword made of the same energy he uses to boost his personal deflection fields (Elemental Titan Sword; deflection fields portrayed by high defense bonuses and the Celestial Aura). I may even make a "You just pissed off the wrong guy" costume and make use of the Phoenix pieces.

So, I have a question. When you open up a computer and tear off the 'WARRANTY VOID IF REMOVED' sticker inside, upon being denied service do you tell tech support they didn't give you enough information about the sticker and what it did?
  12. Rolling up a Thug Mastermind. What secondary should I pair it with out of the aforementioned three?

If you can't be bothered to take a few minutes and peruse the Announcements subsection/Dev Digest/game homepage, I can't be bothered to stop myself from calling you on it.

You made your OP as if Paragon was Blizzard.

That reward would be awesome and creepy. On one hand, I get to talk with Matt Miller (at least for a few seconds before getting food in my mouth). On the other hand... I'm getting fed by someone other than myself. x.x

Where are the dev letters or state of game address? It would be nice to see the game head in a fresh direction as it is rather repetitive.
Don't really look beyond your own blinders much, do you?

    -Community Digest
    -Devs Playing the Game

  16. Solution: Don't run speed trials. If you want some challenge, have your team dig their heels into the earth under the Bridge of Infinite Patrols and Lag. THAT'S fun and HELLA challenging, especially when lag gets involved.
  17. If I had the pen in my hand, he'd have been a pillar of good judgement and strength. There wouldn't have been any hostility toward Manticore; instead he'd have worked with Manticore to come to a proper solution to whatever problem there was, or at the very least, say "Whatever you choose to do you must live with it and be prepared for the consequences." Way better than "WTF MANTICORE GTFO THE PHALANX RIGHT NAO. U BAD, MANTI. BAD."

A lot of people might find this way more boring than what he is now, but he's portrayed as the big cheese of all the heroes, the head honcho and the main man of mightiness. Shouldn't that figure have a level head on his shoulders and a zen-like approach to difficult situations?

They're not even 80% heroic, if that's what you're asking. They're technically not sanctioned by anyone (though supplied by NATO) and, according to the official website, they're fighting to control the Isles for the resources found there. We all know how popular actions like that are.

Arachnos may be more out-in-the-open about their motives, but for every Arachnos Flyer that lands near a bank there's a politically questionable plan by Longbow to do something less than reputable.

Even better, upon first encountering Longbow, the Praetorian PD's first reaction was "What? They use LETHAL weapons to subdue people?!"

It's not a question of suspending disbelief. Paragon City literally could not fit into the area in question. It would have taken all of five seconds for the people who originally mapped out the city to see that if they had bothered to do so.

When you decide that "my city is an alternate version of this real world city" then the logical thing to do is to figure out how your city is analagous to that real world city, not to just make up whatever geography you want and say "but this is a different world with different geography".

Venture is absolutely correct, though I suspect it's less "they didn't do the research" and more that the people who drew up that original map didn't actually care. They just picked Providence because it sounded plausible and ran with it.

Trust me on this. I've written fanfic set during the initial Rikti invasion and I tried to figure out how the freeways into and out of Paragon City would map onto the real city of Providence. The geography of Paragon City is not quite completely bogus for a city that supposedly sits where Providence sits in our world.
Everything in their world has to be 100% accurate to ours? Okay. Tell you what, if your answer to the previous question is 'yes' then why don't you Google Maps me the location of the Well of the Furies?

Do you see my point? Suspend your disbelief. It's a video game. Do you criticize Halo for making Mombasa over sixty times it's size? Do you scoff at Wolfenstein for portraying the SS Paranormal Division as loaded with tesla coils and radioactive zombies? Do you get upset with Devil May Cry because people can't have white hair and fight demons?

    FICTIONAL. WORLD.

Yeah, I know for a fact that our earth has it's own Well of the Furies; Marcus and Steffan just didn't find it and died years ago.

COME ON, VENTURE. SUSPEND YOUR FREAKING DISBELIEF FOR FIVE SECONDS.

Captain America 'dying.' Shot hardcore. "It was a temporal round! It sent him back in time!"

Oh no, Marvel. He was dead.

People were so ticked off that Bucky took up the mantle after Steve got royally shot that they explained it away as a temporal shift round. DUMB.

If Paragon pulls a Steve Rogers & the Time Bullet I'm never reading content again.
