My favorite are the Talons of Vengeance and their headache-inducing wash-out-your-entire-screen-for-ten-seconds placed AoE sandfall/earthpuke powers. What's that? -Def, -Res, -Rec, -ToHit, -Dam and -Speed all in the same attack INCLUDING the inability to see anything on your screen other than baby-vomit brown and random stones shooting upwards? Sounds great, sign me up two days after NEVER.

Quote:And that whole shtick never held water to begin with, considering the Resistance still existed in Praetoria's storyline. The sole savior of the planet cut a deal with the creature that the rest of humanity could be spared if he could keep them in line and docile, thus creating his iron fisted police state with the help of several criminally insane supers that had the tech, the knowhow and the combat expertise to set up his little empire for 'the good of humankind'.

Quote:I'm still convinced the G-Man has gathered enough power to swap games, and the devs didn't put him in Praetoria at all.I wouldn't go that far. The loyalists have a number of competent players, like Mr. G and Provost Marchand, but the problem is that they are either trying to work within a broken system and 'look the other way', or they're simply in it for themselves.

Your generalization is far too broad. I have a Dark/Dark that could be considered a 'purpled out DPS monster' with Hecatomb, Absolute Amazement and some Armageddon slotted, but that level of IO worth came over years of playing him and patiently getting drops. I do enjoy making my builds the best I can but I am by no means a power-mongering minmaxer. I left those days behind in Big Blizzard Fantasy MMO.

And this is everyone else's problem... how?

Quote:Let's see if I have enough room in my signature for this. No, I'm saying that I like to ride pink bunnies through a sunlit moor on bank holiday while Yankee Doodle plays on a record-player that I have tied to the back of my head with giant zip-ties. No, seriously, re-read my post, I'm sure you'll find a way to claim that, too.
Edit: Dammit, I don't. -
Quote:Yep. I know that feeling. Earth/Earth/Ice Dominator.I was on a Ice Mistral Strike Force where we had a Thugs/Stormy and they were before because that took no attacks and relied on thugs for dps. So they spammed gale. I was on a fire/dark corr. By the end of the SF I was pulling my hair out because tar patch was barely ever used properly.
Quicksand. Earthquake. Volcanic Gasses. Sleet. Ice Storm. Move in with Mud Pots and hit Tremor to open.
............................. Force Field Mastermind runs over with Force Bubble on and slides the entire spawn out of my death patch. Spawn loses debuffs and proceeds to take me apart at the seams.
When I angrily told the Mastermind to NOT knock things out of my 5-power debuff pit, he told me that Force Bubble was a power (no ****), that he took it (no ****) and that he was going to use it whether I liked it or not. The team leader kicked him. -
Quote:Actually it's more like numerous experiences with numerous bad-to-average players.KB is always good to have. My Energy blaster lives on it, and it's not even slotted with extra KB. Your target gets slapped across the room? Go target the next one. The team doesn't suffer because the mobs still get defeated. Who cares if it's the melee or the ranged that's doing it. People are letting one poor experience with a poor player cloud their entire judgement of everyone else that happens to have similar powers.
The solution of an optional KB to KD converter IO is the only fair way to give everyone what they want. If KB were changed fundamentally across all sets, you'd neuter whole sets for no reason.
Like the time our Blaster kept spawning bonfire in the middle of our WP Tanker's spawn and getting him killed due to no RTTC. How is that ever a good thing? If a melee AT needs enemies to survive and you knock enemies away from them, that is not a good thing. Nothing irks me more than going to hit Dark Regeneration and, a split second before my finger hits the key, a Stormy Gale's my entire enemy cluster out of range of it and I trade my endurance for nothing. Same goes for Soul Drain and Dark Consumption. -
Quote:I'll watch Earthquake after work tonight.I'm not actually seeing enemies stand up. They just fall down constantly without being able to move or attack unless they're flying. I don't recall Earthquake being that broken.
I could take on two or three x8 mobs at once and have them all be stuck in an endless loop of knockdown.
The second paragraph of your post is untrue; Bonfire has a max target cap of 16, and I found that out the hard way trying to herd on my MM last night. -
Quote:... that's exactly what Earthquake does on my Earth/Earth Dominator. If I put it down, people fall. Earthquake also ticks with a 7% chance every .45s with another 5% chance every .45s, so it happens A LOT. Bonfire ticks every 3 seconds, so it really isn't a whole lot different. If I drop Earthquake on my Dominator, things don't stop falling down until it goes away. And I have enough recharge to chain it together indefinitely.Earthquake has an 7% chance of knockdown, Ice Slick has an 8% chance. This is 100% chance of knockdown. The enemies don't even stand up, they just fall down again from the fallen position. Continuously.
EDIT: It also looks like part of the knockback of Bonfire suppresses once a KB effect has been applied, something Earthquake doesn't do. Enemies fully stand up in Bonfire, enemies will fall mid-fall in Earthquake. -

I do have to wonder why the $himher, $heshe, $sirmaam and other gender text tags weren't used here.
-
That question kind of answers itself, actually. It works in the same way the other roles work if the Hitter, the Thief, or the Hacker are female avatars. Are you going to only criticize the Grifter for that?
This stupidity has to stop. NO ONE at Paragon designed this event to be blatantly sexist. It's not like Matt and Aeon sat down and said "Alright, what can we do to marginalize female players?"
They only do that to villain players.
Yes, I'm bitter. -
Quote:I hit 50 on a Dark/Dark Brute before I9 and IO's, foolishly not taking Acrobatics.you know, given the prevalence of farming enemies who cant hurt you and specific ultra easy missions, I really cant say that I can be sure that anyone has "earned" anything, outside of maybe the "really hard way" badge, and even then, they could have leeched on to an otherwise skilled group of characters and contributed minimally.
I think I've earned the right to feel proud of what that Brute is today, especially since I did things The Really Hard Way. -
I don't always drop trow in public.
But when I do, it's because the TSA were going to pull them down anyway. -
Quote:Did you read the event clue bubbles? In the first phase, the text box for The Grifter reads "Then, The Grifter met Sylvia Rexston and used her cunning skills to distract her from going to the office of Ted Dubois." (Or something similar, I haven't had my coffee.)You're missing the point - the morality doesn't matter - it's that the role is written for a male, while the other 3 roles are all written as gender neutral.
It'd be fine if the 4 roles used preset characters, and the Grfiter was defined as a male character - like there's no problem playing Tyrant's personal story mission where he refers to Black Swan as a harlot, becasue the character we're given to play is a guy, and the model used is naturally male.
The personal story missions are basically "movies" where we play the part of a preset chatacter, and they're each written with that character in mind - which is how the Grifter role comes accross - it feels like it was written with a preset character in mind, but without giving us a preset character and model to use for it.
The game CLEARLY points out that the Grifter is female in more ways than one. -

Quote:I'm getting really sick of hearing 'power creep' lately. Like, I kind of want to vomit every time I hear it.Exactly my point. Thank you. Between power creep, class homogenization, pay-for-performace, etc. CoH has been dumbed down to the point there is no need to do anything beyond faceroll the keyboard.
Wonder how long 'til achievement badges can be bought in the store..
That said, I think you've taken your point of view to a very serious extreme. If the game is such a problem, why are you posting? Why are you using Blizzard-game terms like 'faceroll' to judge this community's skill? You want class homogenization? Might want to look at your own purview first.
Quote:Nice to see the CoH community has also fallen quite far since I last played as well..
1. Not constructive?
2. Blatantly false?
3. Snarky?
4. Arrogant?
You can't come into a thread and proclaim how the game stinks and things are terrible and you're leaving and good riddance, and then expect people to give you more civility than you've given them. -
Quote:That's funny. My game experience hasn't changed at all and I'm not using paid content aside from what my small bout of costume-piece snagging with Super Packs has given me.Don't kid yourselves folks.. whether you call it pay-to-win, pay-for-performance, or whatever, it cheapens the game experience for all.
Quote:Have to say, it is very sad (but not surprising) to see the direction this game has taken since Freedom & the real $ market went live.
Right, because it's soooo hard to level as it is. -
Quote:In my POV, the two notions kind of clash with each other, as the real-money items are used by other people, which is a form of doing. It's a cyclical argument, if you ask me. "I don't like these items." "Well stop caring what people do with them." "But I don't like the items." "So what if they're being used?"
Do you believe that I am not telling the truth (either willfully or not) when I say that I don't care about what other people do and that some real money items affect how I feel about the game independent of other players' actions?
Etc.
