Best in show.
---------------------
Warning: This post is not meant for people who are Victorian, arrogant, bloated, conventional, dreary, dull, fusty, genteel, humorless, self-important, magisterial, musty, narrow-minded, pompous, priggish, prim and proper, prissy, prudish, puffy, puritanical, self-important, staid, stilted, stodgy, straitlaced, and uninteresting in nature. This means you Bob! -
Agreed, and you have giving me somethings to think about and grow. Pretty much what you said is what I was trying to clarify in that last satirical point using an extreme. And from what you clarified for me, I must admit, even the rules for killing/murdering another is gray even though I/we wish to not accept or acknowledge it.
But another part I was trying to get across is that, for all intensive purposes, RV is a war zone And as we like to think, "All's fair in love and war." At which point is it appropriate to lure/drop/TP someone into a "no win scenario?" When you are on the wining side? When you are on the losing side? Only when players are involved? When no NPC's are involved at all? What is the cut off point? Is it really a case of when you receive the pwning, He sucks for doing that! (And I have been guilty of saying that myself.) But when you do it with friends, in the sense of when I was the MM, the heroes may have said amongst themselves, "That was awesome! Wish I could have seen his face!" Is it really trying to bend the rules? Is it really removing unfair game play in a "war zone?" Is it really a "war zone," a PvP/E zone, Winner Takes All zone, or just a larger arena with shanghaiing rules because we don't like someone or a team using the given environment and powers to their advantage? (Ironically, it is how we play the game against the non-emotional NPC's.) -
Anyone up for Hami Raid on Friday 8 or 9 PM EST on Friday (2009.07.17)?

[ QUOTE ]
You're as bad as he is.
"I played by the rules" is NOT a defense of antisocial behavior.
This is Not like State Rights. The players do Not have the right to do anything and everything that the rules don't specifically ban.
The community decides what is and isn't socially acceptable. The devs decide what is and isn't 'legally' acceptable.
Just because it's not explicitly forbidden does not mean it's completely acceptable.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, I am not as bad as him. I wait till the other says ready before I get pwned. Just because one can see the point does not mean one agree with the tactics. First, I point out the facts the author is talking about the mentality of the average adult. Second, "The community decides what is and isn't socially acceptable," is so false. If you decide to fit into the "norm" of things, then go right ahead. If you decide to scream foul, kick, and threaten the "antisocial" person, then feel free to fit into that "norm" as well. (Again, sounds very high-school to me.) Laws, rules and regulations are in place to protect the general public. If the community decides those laws are unacceptable, then it is mob mentality. What if the community decides it is ok to stone people in the public square for disagreeing with the general opinion? Or, to call someone "un-American" because they do not wear a flag icon on their suit? Or, if one drives a huge gas sucking SuV they support terrorist? Does that mean everyone needs to agree, wear a flag icon and drive an electric car? No, because it is legal to voice an opinion of descent - it's called opposition, as in an opposing party. (It works quite well in a democracy.) It is okay to not wear a flag icon. It is okay to drive a gas sucking SuV. Why? Not because the community feels it is wrong, but because the laws say one can. Or is that what you mean by community decides? It is okay to do what you want till it offends my opinion, and/or the majorities opinion?
But ultimately, if we talk about what he does in PvP/E, we are talking about what is fair, what "The devs decide what is and isn't 'legally' acceptable." And logically, since in this game, RV is a war zone, why would you wait for the other to say "go," when you can sneak attack. Like a stalker running past you getting a good hit, using hit and run tactics, as a couple have done to me. But that is not fair, maybe I should scream foul. And the last time I went to RV on Freedom, I took my MM to the entrance. Seen lots of heroes, think it was about 20 - 30, door sitting on the red side. I thought I was in a safe area by the Arachnos Drone. But I was not, a hero TP'ed me into the middle of the group and they pwned me. Guess that is foul, unfair, but I am wrong. Why am I wrong? Because "The community decides what is and isn't socially acceptable. The devs decide what is and isn't 'legally' acceptable." So, according to what everyone is screaming foul about is you can TP someone into the middle of a crowd of players, but not NPC's. It is okay to use hit and run tactics, but only if you do not lead them into a group of NPC's. Correct? I am trying very hard to figure out what the "norm" is since the "war zone" has laws and rules.
Now, if you don't mind, I'm off to make it socially acceptable to street race in crowded suburbs while smoking in public restaurants filled with children. Because all it takes is one determined person, and then a whole lot of sheeple who so want to fit into the "norm" to make it socially acceptable. Hence, when you disagree with me, but the majority of the community is on my side, because "The community decides what is and isn't socially acceptable," whether the laws support me or you, I win at all cost. Yeah, baby, The American WAY! -
What really surprises me is you all seem to have read the article on his paper, and some may have read the paper. But what really surprises me is that none of you seem to have zoomed on one of the main points of the article and the paper:
[ QUOTE ]
Contrary to some stereotypes, people that play online computer games like "City of Heroes" aren't adolescent misfits. They tend to be what most would consider mainstream adults.*
[/ QUOTE ]
In other words, he played by the rules. We may not like what he did, but he did it - he may have even relished in the frustration he created - but all in all, one of the the main points is:
[ QUOTE ]
They tend to be what most would consider mainstream adults.*
[/ QUOTE ]
Because:
[ QUOTE ]
Research shows the average gamer is 24 years old. Three out of 10 are women. Most are college students or work in information technology departments. Only 2 percent are unemployed.*
[/ QUOTE ]
Granted, he may have pulled the extreme cases to prove his point:
[ QUOTE ]
Another player added, "I hope your mother gets cancer."*
[/ QUOTE ]
And:
[ QUOTE ]
When Myers took a break from the virtual world and went on vacation for a couple of weeks with his wife and daughters, players noticed his absence. One player started a discussion thread that claimed Myers had been banned from the game because he had called a fellow player a "n----r."
Another posting claimed Twixt was a convicted pedophile.*
[/ QUOTE ]
But it all furthers the point.
So, long story longer, after someone started this thread, ya all seem to miss the point, and started to continue in the same manor. In other words, a person played by the rules, people did not like it, and the main stream adults used a high school mentality to deal with the person who is out of the norm.
Also, if you read the paper, he did this on more that one server, and always the same reaction:
[ QUOTE ]
Throughout the duration of his breaching play, Twixt endured threats of computer sabotage, real-life violence, and a variety of less speculative (and more achievable) in-game harassments and abuses. This pattern of escalating feelings and emotions was repeated very similarly on each of the three servers Twixt visited.**

I do not think there will be PB, WS, Widow, or SoA. I think there will be a new Epic AT(s) with Rogue, or as when CoV originally came out, none.

[ QUOTE ]
Not in this game, but I did have to drop out of an instanced quest on Guild Wars because the local cops couldn't tell the difference between the vase in my window and a bong.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm still laughing! Welcome to Cheech and Chong's Flower shop. My name is Bob. With every purchase, you'll receive a bong!
BTW, you're icon, I love that show! -
Oh. Well since you only want the sexy people, I'll just sit in the corner looking at the wall. But hi anyway.
-
To me, the PB is the ultimate blapper. Can solo, can team, can do a lot. You deal vast amounts of damage but usually to a solo target.
To me, the WS is the ultimate AoE. Can solo, can team, can do a lot. You deal vast amounts of damage to multiple targets. -
I say we have a rikti, zombie double XP weekend!
-
nah, I can fly
Simply believe if I can target it, I should be able to kill it.

Oh. I was trying for satire of this persons pettiness of deciding that an ugly blue toon had to be a villain, cause "all heroes are pretty," and when I replied to him/her with the questions Why - well, if you knew me IRL, picking on his/her pettiness they never replied. A little later there was a team wipe which he/she blamed me because my toon was so ugly he/she couldn't concentrate. At first I thought this I.D.10.T was kidding but he/she kept going on about it, so I attempted a satirical ranted that I would make a pretty toon create massive team wipes and not get blamed.
You said "dislike" so figured I might as well delete it. But maybe it was, after reading your reply, (j/k here) your ADHD kicking in, because we all see you running circles in the AE building screaming, "PICK ME!" -
Ah hell, I wanna kill civilians period! Especially in Mayhem.

What I would really like to see, is the after effects of one of these invasions - as opposed to everything going back to status quo.
Have a few months of reconstruction. Broken buildings, destroyed highways, broken war wall sections, having to find trainers in different locations due to the damage.
Then, to go a step further, have missions designed around helping the citizens rebuild.
Having everything go to hell in a hand basket, then flip a switch where everything's normal?
That got old. Badges aside, not much got accomplished during the raid IMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
Most of that is found already in-game on blue side. It's called Boomtown and nobody goes there because it's a giant burned out waste with no facilities and nothing to do there. Red side gets mishes in the teens that send you to disrupt the reconstruction efforts there I think.
The idea of actually fighting during an invasion is that you're preventing the Rikti from turning every zone into Boomtown clones.
[/ QUOTE ]
Some form of chaos would be nice. An AE building down here and there; disruption of YL and GL for a bit; fire mish, and police mish where thugs are getting out of jail (or something along those lines). Nothing extreme, but break the norm of, hey couple of a bombs go off, they invade, leave, and bob's your uncle business as usual.
-
Hear hear! Would be nice if AE got blown to hell for a few days or a week. A better trigger for the invasion is when a second zone is created, oh, like, AP1 and AP2
-
If we're gonna do our's:
Just got a call from Niagara Power, and they are gonna cut.... -
I, like the rest of you, have heard some great bail excuses. But this has to be a topper:

What is the best bail excuse you ever heard? -
OMG! Way too funny! I almost [censored] my [censored] off when Mr. Rogers came up! But that offended me and my Christian friends who believe in the old ways like this.

I didn't say AE sucks, I said I'm tired of the AE farm missions which seem to be the main thing people are doing.
But thanks for telling me I suck. You are very right. I'm a terrible player since I enjoy the game at a slower pace.
I just miss the game I've always enjoyed being dominated by one thing for so long. It seems we have the people that enjoy XP farming since they enjoy leveling fast to try out various classes. Others enjoy experiencing the stories and history of the game and like abit of role playing and aren't there just to get the next level. Two different kinds of players, but from my limited experience the past few months the XP players seem more plentiful. Is that wrong? Obviously not since the devs are happy with things as they are. But people like me aren't so happy.
That's all fine though if there's more farmer players, then NCsoft gets their fees and makes there money. Losing a few wackos that don't like that type of play so much won't hit their bottom line.
Again, thanks so much for reminding me what a loser I am. It's great to know these things about yourself. Builds character. You sure must be a fine person since you point out other's limitations.
[/ QUOTE ]\
all I see is "whine whine whine I'm too lazy to form my own teams whine whine I hate AE whine whine someone cater tyo me because I can't stand the thought of actually making friends to run TFs and content with and therefore it must be the AEs fault"
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't blame him for your tunnel vision. This string is not going on my favs, because it seems one side is adamant about what they believe, while the other is in denial about what has happened to CoX.
It's a common complaint. And he's right. This main focus of this game has become farming*. (PL'ing is now heavily incorporated in to the game. And I am just as guilty sometimes.**) Maybe NCSoft will do something about it or just keep gathering money from people who'll now pay for extra AE slots (to further help keep a bad implementation of a great idea), alts, and booster packs.
Personally, I am finding this game to become way to redundant and boring because of AE in it's present form (but it's not going to change - the implementation of selling AE slots boosters that idea). I read about people forming teams outside of AE, but other than some TF's, and after trying to form teams (beyond sewer teams), and some on the most populated servers, Freedom and Virtue, I have found them to be vary rare, and in most cases, way too long to build. I have come across the occasional farm on Grand, and PI, but still a farm.
Why am I still playing? Couple of reasons. To build more and better 50's because I can do it easily and without a challenge because all the speed limit signs have been removed from the highway. Also, to kill time while waiting for Champions and DC Online to go live.
---------------------
*First it was Rikti/Lt farms. But as money poured like water and you could slot better, it become Boss farms. But money kept pouring to where it is AV farms. And now, the farms have become very creative to where there is a bubble farm which is like chopping wood (really kindling when ya got a supped up 50).
**Why do I do it? Because it's an easy way to remove the challenge of the game to get to 50 without needing a mentor. Easy way to get money, rare salvage, and build and slot my 50. WHOO HOO! AE has removed the challenge of the game. It's Windows 9X(TM) for the MMO user. (No matter how many blue screens ya get, ya keep using it because it's easy and without a challenge.)
