So it would be illegal for, say, a network to broadcast a show that used a copyrighted character, even if the author of the show was the one actually violating the copyright. The author violated the copyright when he wrote the show and sold it to the network, but then the network violated it again by broadcasting it.

The TOS would be similar to an indemnity clause where the network would insist that if the show being sold is a violation of copyright, the author accepts the liability. Of course, the network would still have to show it didn't know of the copyright violation, but having that in its contract would help.
I see the whole Marvel lawsuit similar to lawsuits against Youtube and Ebay that both of those companies keep winning time and time again. Hell, the Google v. Viacom case was decided on summary judgment in favor of Google (though that is currently being appealed). As long as they have in place systems to deal with copyright/trademark infringement they are not liable for the actions of users. CoH has such a system so I'm thinking that they would have been fine in the lawsuit.

Now if they actively encouraged users to violate copyrights and trademarks then they would have been in trouble much like several torrent tracker sights.

I'm not a lawyer, so obviously I don't know any of this for certain, but this one seems pretty obvious to me.

Slots redeemed WILL become available one the store is back up. Let us give them time to fix it. THEN we can urge them to prevent it from happening again.
I disagree. If people are upset, they should voice their displeasure. And they should keep doing it until they are happy. That being said, I don't think this is a huge deal.

    SwellGuy is correct.

To people that want more/easier teams to find I suggest joining global channels on your server. Teaming is typically much better when you form through those.

Marvel's lawsuit would have been thrown out is my guess. If it is considered by the courts to be a copyright violation to create a Wolverine clone in CoH, then the proper person to sue would be the individual player because they are the one actually violating any copyright.

I agree. I really hope it is taken care of soon, because I want to start my Dom on Freedom and currently can't create any new characters there or transfer to make room. I would start him on another server but this is a level pact I'm gonna do with my friend and I want to start this ASAP.

But I can be patient, while I'm waiting I'll just create a character or two on Pinnacle.

A provocative 4-liner post by someone with a history of such things is fair game; story arcs which people have invested a lot of time and effort into require a thoughtful discussion in my opinion, not sweeping generalisations which include "no one wants to play your badly written storyarc..." I'm not arguing MA is perfect, just that respect should be given where it is deserved.

Most(not all) story arcs are badly written. The fact that a lot of time was spent on it doesn't really mean anything.

For me it wasn't fear of losing money, in this game you can fart and 100 million inf comes out. For me I just wasn't sure what it would look like after the merge. After logging in and checking it out I am perfectly happy with the way it was handled. I have all the relevant info I wanted.

When I preordered City of Villains, I got a three-day head start. For the entire game, I might add. I fail to see why those who pre-purchased can't get a head start today. Not to mention the fact that they could simply list Going Rogue on the PlayNC store as they said they would either way.

At the end of the day, I'd rather have it all done today, than having to sit on my hands all day tomorrow, too. I'm off work, people!
It could upset some people that have a bunch of stuff sitting on the market.

For example I put about 250 bids on recipes last night hoping to get as many as possible and then take down all the bids later tonight. I also have yet to document everything I bid on so if everything got pulled a day early it would cause a lot of confusion for me.

That being said, I would gladly deal with the confusion if it meant I could play GR a day early. But I'm sure there are some people out there who wouldn't feel the same way.
  17. I don't take Aid Self. Ever.

If I use Super Jump or Ninja Run I do my best to stay off the ground as much as possible. That can mean rooftops, the train rail, power lines, or whatever else I can find.

If I use fly for a travel power I fly up as high as possible and log out. I don't use fly on many characters so it is usually a nice little surprise when I log in and start falling right away. It has caused me a couple deaths before, but I don't mind because debt builds character.

When you have a few million

    Couple things though:

    1. Once you get a little more working money it is faster to use Set IO recipes to craft and sell. Bigger profits.

    2. Don't tell people what you're crafting and selling for profit, others will move in and destroy your profit.

By throwing villains into the mix, it means the hero content was less heroic, and the villainous content less villainous. Same with Cimerora.
I never understood how fighting off the Rikti invasion is only something a hero would do. I mean, if the world got destroyed or everyone wiped out, wouldn't that include the villains? I won't argue that the villain arcs were worded poorly, but how is it not in a villain's best interest to stay alive?
  23. I remember one of the devs once saying changing old content wasn't efficient use of time and that they would rather make new content. That may be what he is referring to. But since everything was already there because of GR updating(not remaking) old arcs like that may have been much simpler. At least that is my guess.
  24. I like this idea a lot. I'm all for it. But much like you said in your first sentence, I want to see Dark Astoria done first.
  25. Did I miss something? How does GR and i18 have more hero content than villain?
