  1. You'll have to do the preceding missions to get to it if you're doing it through Ouroboros. It's not terrible, though. You'll have to face Chimera, Nightstar and Black Swan alone, but you get helpers against Bobcat, Neuron and Battle Maiden. You are exactly correct in how to farm for mobs in an Ouroboros arc, log out and back in to reset.

Without his strength, webslinging was too dangerious for him.

I can't think of any heros that have *permenetly* lost there powers, and stayed that way but still fought crime. hmm. They lose or switch there powers for stories and story arches all the time, but i can't really think of any that were *perment* or really long term... well, I seem to recall alot of GL's turend into.. what were the called.. Darkstars??? They got new powers from special suits IIRC. And i hear Jubliee is now a vaimpire... somehow... *shrug* That's about it. And well, Superman going Blue for about a year i guess, but that's kind of different i suppose.
Shortly after the Captain Universe arc that coincided with Acts of Vengeance, where Peter had his power level amped-up to a point where he could go one-on-one with Magneto and the Tri-Sentinel, there was an arc where a lab accident stripped him of his powers. He continued to wear the suit, and fumbled through enough to get them back. This was also the arc where Black Cat first lost the luck powers that she had been given when they were dating.

Donna Troy was also one of the depowered heroes who became a Darkstar for a while.

Oh, I thought you meant the storylines from the two previous zones, my misunderstanding. There are plenty of them in the other paths' Neutropolis arcs, though I forget which ones exactly.
  4. Aaron Walker, the first Warden contact in Neutropolis, has a mission with them.
  5. That would explain why sometimes in Beta they counted, and other times they didn't. Two different faction tags. Makes perfect sense now. Thanks.

Oh, and since I didn't see any mention here, you can get Eye of the Storm as a level 50 Hero from the "An Unstable Detonator" tip mission. Maelstrom appears in the Hero choice from that tip, and the way that the Vigilante choice is worded, I assume he's there, too.

For those who don't remember, I have three links that show the evolution of Ms. Liberty's family tree.

Her bio from just before launch.

A clarification (later partially de-retconned when her original first name was reasserted by the Freedom Phalanx book) by Manticore.

The moment of realization of the squick factor, from the implications of the Web of Arachnos story.

    There are two possibilities here.

In one, Ms. Liberty was always meant to be Statesman's granddaughter, but it was a big secret that was meant to be a reveal for when Recluse was introduced, in order to give Statesman and Recluse some personal connection, but her backstory got complicated by, for whatever reason, the level 45-50 mission writers apparently not knowing what really should have been in the vaunted Story Bible, or just not paying attention to it.

In the other, Ms. Liberty was meant to be the heir to a dynasty of patriotic female heroes who had merely been Statesman's sidekicks over the decades, but someone caught onto the names used for older members of that line and decided that they would be great to use for Statesman's wife/Recluse's sister and her descendants by Statesman. The transitive property made Ms. Liberty Statesman's granddaughter, which was fine, but it continued on to make Dominatrix Tyrant's granddaughter, which is so far beyond fine that you can't see fine from there.

Both are possible. Both require people writing over established canon. Both require people not really thinking things through with the threads that are still there from what is arguably the story that most defines the final tier of a Hero in Paragon's career, where you rescue the biggest name there is, cementing your place among the legends of the city. In short, both have a stink of unprofessional behavior for a writer.
  7. Praetorian Clockwork work fine, and you should be able to get that one on either Tina or Maria's new arcs. Tina's The Instant Army arc in the 40-45 level range is chock full of the new Clockwork. Seers, on the other hand, don't seem to be counting, but I have yet to do Maria's arc to see if they work there. Maria's A Hero's Epic arc would be the best place to test them out, as the mission in Mother Mayhem's asylum is full of Seers. In just about any other mission that they're in, the Seers are mixed in fairly evenly with other Praetorian mobs that don't have badges associated with them.

We will be using Ouroboros so everyone on the team gets the merits. This arc contains all but one of the Praetorians needed for the Portal Jockey accolade. We will do Tina McIntyre's arc the following week (her arc has the one missing AV and has also been revamped with the new enemies).

    Arc: A Hero's Hero
    Merits: 36
    Minimum level: 45
Just so you know, the revamped version is called A Hero's Epic and is not 36 merits. The new total is ~25 merits. It also no longer contains all but one of the AVs required for Dimensional Warder. Not only is it still missing Anti-Matter, but Siege has also been removed from it. From now on, you will need to either find Siege in the revamped standalone mission from Maria, or run the old A Hero's Hero arc in Ouroboros.

Oh, heck, put me down for a slot. I'll bring my Rad/Psi for some support. I'm fairly certain I can pick up a bub between now and then.

An update on this. I haven't been able to get any Seers in Tina's new arc or in the new version of the Agent badge mission to count. That is one flaky badge.

    Copyright doesn't either.

Trademark is about protecting symbols used to represent particular goods or services. You can trademark absolutely anything if you're using it to represent your goods or services so long as it isn't a generic term for those; trademarks can be "for all purposes" (rare) or "for a particular area of commerce" (common). Consequently, DC can (and has) trademarked "Superman" in the following fields: candy, amusement park rides, the internet, comic books, shower curtains, handbags and purses, underwear, and numerous others. It has not trademarked it in the field of philosophy, and probably cannot because of Nietzsche's prior and better-known use.

Trademark is "use it or lose it", so you cannot protect a mark that you are not using. You must also actively defend it to keep it from becoming a generic term for the goods or services; Otis Elevator, for example, lost their trademark on "Escalator" this way. This is why Marvel and DC are so aggressive about people re-creating their characters in CoH: a desire to keep "Superman" from becoming a generic term for a man in blue spandex wearing his underwear on the outside.

Copyright, on the other hand, does not need to be actively defended. Failure to deal with an infringement you know about may prevent you from suing later over that particular infringement, but it does not invalidate your copyright or prevent you from suing over other infringements.
You have presented probably the most concise and accurate description of both of these terms and how they relate to this game that I have ever seen here. I'd give you Rep if we still had it.
  11. I'm pretty sure that Issue 18/GR will mark the first time since CoV launched that EVERY badge will have proper artwork.
  12. The one thing that I recall that nobody else ever seems to bring up in these things is, "Hero X has defeated <mob name here>, but Hero Y did the most damage." You usually only saw this on teams, and they took out the second part with Issue 1, I believe. When I play a damage dealer with friends, I sometimes wish that it was still there, simply for bragging rights.

It was still the case late last week when I ran that arc the last time. For a while there, the Seers stopped counting, too, but that appears to have been fixed.

    Skip Tracer

Like most CoV mission badges, you'll find this one in the next tier up (40-45) since the mission itself is set to level 40 maximum, rather than level 39 maximum.
  15. I went out and checked at around actual Midnight, and again at around 1:30 AM, which would be solar Midnight, given the DST offset and the offset for living way out on the Western edge of the time zone, but we got nothing here. It was probably faint up in the "fingertips" of Michigan, and a bit better chance in the Upper Peninsula.

It has happened way down here in the "thumb" at least once in living memory, since my Dad regales me of seeing it back when he was a dairy farmer here.
  16. That actually sounds like Italian, right there. C in Italian is pronounced chay. In his native Italian, Cesare Borgia's first name is pronounced Cheh-zuh-ray.

I'm using the h after the vowel to denote a short vowel.

I'm using that to avoid confusion with an umlaut, and to keep consistency with the vowel followed by an H denoting the short form, as opposed to what one of my elementary school teachers called "the doctor's A." Romans pronounced the letter C as a K, always. It is mostly due to British interest in Latin scholarship that we get See-zur, and Sih-seh-ro for that matter.
  18. The pronunciations at Dictionary.com have the first vowel of the root word as either a long E or long I, and the second as either a long O or an aw sound. In other words, it depends.

This is a group that, for the first nine years of its existence, had a mascot named Snapper. It's sort of a grand, goofy comic book tradition.
  20. This is just leftover angst from when Dual Blades got put in over Shields. Thing is, there are more characters that actually make appearances on a regular basis in mainstream superhero comics that use dual blades than use shields. Elektra, Deathstroke, Cheshire, Deadpool, Zealot, Ravager, even Katana, who is named for her primary blade, carries and uses a second one. Shields, while used by an icon, Captain America, are pretty rare in the arsenals of comic book heroes. Mostly, they are two Jack Kirby creations, Cap, as mentioned above, and the Guardian. There are others that appear infrequently, like the Shining Knight, but most of the rest only carry shields because of their ties to Captain America, and even most of those are lucky to show up once every five years or so to retain their copyright. Only USAgent, a one-time fill-in for Captain America, has very many appearances under his belt.

Just as an aside about that article, the complaints about lack of natural light are a bit humorous. Del Norte County gets, on average, 70 inches of precipitation, nearly all of it as rain, per year. That place would be pretty bleak even if there were windows everywhere.

Edit: And this isn't just for violent criminals and drug offenders. This is the cell of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatck, who is currently imprisoned for failure to pay his restitution stemming from his plea deal on perjury and obstruction of justice.

It's probably even closer to Mark Gruenwald's Squadron Supreme limited series. Building off of the history of an alternate Earth that had been visited by heroes from the main Marvel Earth, which had no less than three incidents where the planet was taken over (at least one of which involved a limited nuclear exchange, if memory serves) in the very recent past. The titular Justice League analogues decide to take charge and create a Utopia, using whatever means are at their disposal. It's a great read, if you haven't already been exposed to it.

Strangely enough, given the article that inspired this thread, the Batman analogue resigns from the group in protest over the lengths that they are willing to go to in the construction of their Utopia.

Gang War was similarly problematic, so I ended up shelving my Thugs/ MM for years. And Scrapyard's giant horde. And Rikti raids. And... well, you get the idea.
Stepping out into the prison yard in Breakout can produce enough to flood a 128K download connection solo. Dark Astoria, some places in Striga, and a good chunk of Warburg will definitely push a dial-up user off.

When I finally got broadband, I was astounded by the number I got in the received line in my netgraph in the Breakout prison yard. It wasn't always like that. Somebody decided that relative positions really mattered a lot in early 2007, possibly to make sure that the proper people got credit for defeats for drops, and increased the frequency of positional data being sent. At least that's my pet theory that seems to account for the circumstances where data traffic goes through the roof.
  24. I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone on dial-up these days. There are just too many things that will push past the download cap for dial-up, even when solo. If you want to be able to do everything in this game, a connection that will reliably give you over about 200 kilobits per second down and 8 kilobits per second up will probably be fine, though upload can go higher when you fiddle with window colors and other UI elements.

As opposed to an ancient arbitrary convention, like the one that you linked.

If you go down even farther on that page, you'll see that other cultures reckon seasons at the halfway points between the solstices and equinoxes. There is no such thing as a definitive reckoning of seasons, it largely depended on the latitude at which the defining culture lived.
