Let's see...
On my old machine, whenever I got near a large group of other players and my system starting to lag to a crawl, I would call it "a gravity well due to an exceptional power influx" or some similar rubbish.
For times of environmentally-induced lag (because I can't blame my machine anymore), I would call it simple things like tripping, muscle twitches, gun jams or some kind of mystical interference.
For things like the server events yesterday and the day before, I would say "The Gamester did it." -
Quote:No! Better yet, an escalator! That way, they just keep tumbling and falling and tumbling and falling and...
I sincerely wish whoever created this virus would fall down a flight a stairs for all the pain they have caused. A very, very long flight of stairs. Here's hoping no one has to go through this dance again. -
Quote:But, how else will I get my daily insanity fix? Also, y'all can check server status here. The page auto-updates so you don't have to hit Refresh all the time, it's slightly less maddening than trying to log in, over and over and over and over and over...

Quote:Oh no, Stale! That's terrible. The Mean Girls must've checked his global and thought it was youMy son partook in the festivities in my stead yesterday on our main account, and he loved it.
...and somehow he managed to get on a team infested with Mean Girls... time to have "the talk" with the boy. -
A great, fun event. I was able to provide a Storm Defender to help debilitate the enemy.
We certainly gave those monsters what for! -
I once saw a player pick powers from Flight, Leap and Teleport instead of Storm Summoning and Electric Blast powers. I asked if the player understood how badly they'd hamstrung their gaming experience and received "I know, but this is the way I wanted to build my character."
I couldn't argue with that. -
I'll throw in a vote for Protector.
As Zekiran said, it's a tight-knit group of mostly soloists, but there are a number of people over there that'll reach out to you. The experience is well-worth the risk of a faceplating PUG -
If I'm available and there's room, I wouldn't mind helping with this. I've got a batch of characters in range, and I'm sure I can fill any role required.
-
So far, it's been a Super Strength/Electric Armor Brute. I was REALLY able to play around with the power selection with those two sets, so it allowed me to fit in Kick, Tough and Weave, making for a very interesting fighter. The character's quick, resilient, and once he gets his blood going, he REALLY starts hurting his enemies.
Second place is currently my Dual Pistols/Energy Blaster who's also using Ninja Run as his travel power (freeing up space for other power choices). He's currently being bolstered by Kick and Tough, which has done wonders for his survival rate solo. Plus, he almost NEVER runs out of Endurance. If he ever starts running low, I just pop Conserve Power and BAM! Back to full blue. -
I've always got plenty to spare. Free of charge.
-
I'd like a vehicle-based booster pack. Why?
I want my Batmobile.
I want my A-Team Van.
I want a crazy motorcycle.
I want my Petercopter!
I don't want all of my characters teleporting, flying, leaping or superspeeding with rocket skates (I really want to get rid of those rocket skates, too). Some of them are more down-to-earth, and have to get by on the normal gifts they've got. It would be nice if they didn't have to rely on the Raptor Pack to get around. -
The first Kheld I got to 50 was my Warshade. I started with the Tri-Form method, but after a while with the Big Lobster, I realized it wasn't going to work out... The way I play, it doesn't work for me.
I stuck with a Human-only build that worked WONDERS for me. I wound up slapping Leap into the build as well to get Acrobatics and boost his capabilities against the average Mezzing. He still had some trouble dealing with Stuns and Sleeps, but just that bit alone increased his survival rate immensely.
When soloing, I would use stealth (Shadow Cloak) to sneak up on enemies and hit the one I expected to give the most trouble with Gravity Well. Then it would be a a short case of Sunless Mire and Dark Detonation to wipe out the rest of the group (or debilitate them enough to finish them off more easily).
It's not an easy way to go. You're basically a Scraptroller... Or, more accurately, a Stalktroller, without the bonus of doubling your damage on a restrained foe or massive damage for striking from the shadows. The damage output of the Kheldians is heinously low, especially for the "power" they're supposed to have.
However, when you have your build just right (for you, mind you, your style determines what kind of Kheldian works best for you) it can be an incredible experience.
I recommend Human Only very strongly. I still stand by my conviction that the Tri Form or even Dual Form builds stretch the available enhancements too thin for the builds to be properly effective. If you're going to go Nova, you may as well be playing a blaster. If you're going to go Dwarf... Good luck to you. Tankers do more and their powers cost less (how I ran out of endurance with only four powers that recharge extremely slowly, I'll never understand).
So, there's my two cents. -
Quote:If I'd known this, I probably wouldn't have reacted so vehemently. We WERE planning to set a villain raid for May 1st. But the announcement that Issue 17 is coming on April 28th kinda shot that idea down. We'll set one up in the near future, time/date TBA.
Instead, the general tone was "Don't expect it again." I know those weren't the words, but when asked in Jello Shooters on Sunday, Major T made it clear that he didn't see any interest in a Villain-side Hamidon Raid and wasn't expecting it anytime soon. Other words like "abandoning" and "forgetting" were used (perhaps not by T, but at that point I was already getting anxious), and my blood got to boiling.
So, again, I'm sorry for reacting the way I did. It was uncool of me, and the attitude I posted under was completely out of line.
I'm leaving what I've posted as-is, though. I'll live with the shame. -
Quote:I already covered this elsewhere, Kid. The Raid leadership is fine.
If you have a problem with me or any member of the raid leadership, please bring it up with me and/or the person in question, be it here, in tells, in PMs, to give us an opportunity to resolve it.
I don't know what set me off so badly. It just seemed to me that the typical organizers of these events dropped it without asking if anybody else wanted to try to help. This meshed with some other problems I've been having with the server and channels (J.S. especially), and I blew my top.
I was obviously mistaken, though. So, I'm standing down. -
Well. I'm sorry, then.
I was trying to light a fire under everybody's butts, maybe get them fired up to try one last Villain-side raid, really organize one and try to throw as many players as we had at it. Who knows, maybe we could have reinvigorated the Redside, too. I apparently bit off more than I could chew on such a thing, and I'm sorry for ticking so many people off with my attempt.
I guess I'll drop it, then.
I had a lot to say, but after seeing the tags applied to this thread, I realized I'd overdone it. I'd pushed too hard. Whatever good I could provide to my side of the debate had been overshadowed by my overaggressive attitude.
I'm sorry for insulting the people who were insulted by what I had to say.

Quote:I appreciate the sentiment, but if Hami were such a waste of time, I don't believe we'd be having this emotional back-and-forth.Eh don't feel bad. Hami is a waste of time.
I enjoy both raids, not for the grind, but for the people and the sensation that we're achieving something together. It's a lot of cats that are being herded, and my hat's off to the people that do it. -
Congratulations, Ice9. It was an excellent choice.

Quote:But there are enough on the server that DO find it fun and are able to kill the monster.I was making a more general statement in that its not something that everyone finds fun. If a large number of people don't find it fun them maybe it does need to be changed. I could be in the minority in thinking that it is not a fun way to spend my in game time. The risk vs reward was more about the fact you get almost no xp if you are playing a non 50(the debt in itself isn't a big deal other then the fact you have to die to complete it). So your only real reward for doing it is either merits or an HO and red side I'd much rather run a LRSF then a Hami raid to get an HO.
In fact, I don't think it's so much killing the monster that we're so keen about, it's knowing that we're able to coordinate so many disparate players to do it, utilizing resources and tactics that aren't available to the other side. It's a lot of people, who are friends, getting together to accomplish a difficult task.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm being so critical of the "Getting the word out" issue because I'm in the same boat that others have mentioned, I usually don't know about a raid until just before it's going to happen (and I DO visit the forums regularly). This last one, I was barely able to prepare in time.
I'm also sore about how "We got the word out" was "spamming channels as the raid was starting." Suddenly, I'm seeing "We tried everything we could, then after some debate, we decided to forego the Redside Hamidon..."
...
I don't remember this debate, and I play fairly regularly. Heck, this thread is the FIRST we've ever started talking about it, and it's happening AFTER a decision was made to abandon it (which has inspired a new lively debate). I didn't hear anything about it until this past Sunday, where the news was passed by people who may not be exactly "in charge," but they sure as Hell are listened to very closely.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
So... We don't like Redside, apparently.
Why?
What is so wrong about Redside? It's got interesting challenges, interesting archetypes (about the only one I don't like is the Dominator, but there are players who SWEAR by them), and more than a few decent stories.
Some players complain of it being a strain on their machines. Yeah, that happened to me, too. Hard. So hard it kept me from getting a 50 villain until RWZ was installed (because RWZ uses less resources than Grandville for whatever reason).
So... My only recommendation is to rectify that situation. You have a game, you have a HUGE portion of it available to you... But you're shying away from it because you feel your machine is a toaster. Well, here's a headline, it's not going to get any better for your machine as Ultra Mode comes down the pipe and starts working at turning your video card into Swiss cheese. All the stuff after Ultra Mode? It's very likely going to be optimized for Ultra Mode.
Save your money to improve your machine. Spare change, savings fund, whatever... I got my latest video card (NVidia 9800GT) for $150 (from a store, not out of the back of somebody's car), and it's been fantastic, even handles Ultra Mode on Test. If you can't save $150 in a month, something's got to give.
Don't like the story? Learn to roleplay. Learn to write. IMAGINE! The Rogue Isles don't need to be a home for villains alone. Your character can easily be a renegade, a mercenary, a person in a bad situation, or what-have-you. Lunatics and monsters need not apply. And if you're not at all into roleplay, then what the Hell is the problem with the story, anyway? You can ignore that just as easily.
Do we have to encourage more teaming on Redside? Is that all it is? I will GLADLY start running Redside teams. I LIKE watching what those archetypes can do together. It's a really good synergy.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Or maybe we need to work out new suggestions on how to engage in a Redside Hamidon. Maybe new times, or a different day.
How about Fridays at 9 P.M. Eastern, 6 Pacific (Edited, thanks, Ice9). It's a Friday, people often duck out early on Fridays, giving them time to get prepared. Hell, we can do it at 10 P.M. Eastern. Where the Hell do you have to be the next day, anyway?
Is that not good enough? Too bad, nobody else is suggesting anything. Suggest something good for you. Let's get some brainstorming going, let's start working this out! If we just sit here, pointing fingers at each other, we're not going to get anything done.
And now, I leave with a parting rant:
IF YOU CAN MAKE TIME FOR A BLUE SIDE RAID, YOU CAN MAKE TIME FOR A RED SIDE RAID!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...
Oh, I can't wait to see how this comes back to bite me in the butt.
Here it is...
Quote:From my Reputation on this post...
Get in touch with reality. it IS hard to save $150 a month if you have other things to worry about...you know, like mortgages, rent, heat, power, food, diapers, etc.
As somebody who's hovering above the poverty line, somebody who's better off than me telling me that they can't save $150 is bull-crap. Find a luxury and cut it for a while. It's not like you need to see another lame MTV special on another celebrity's messed-up take on life.
There is only ONE person who I wouldn't be saying any of this to: Zekiran. She's let us in on some of the craziness in her life, and I would agree that she's just not able to catch a break. I'm probably going to find myself in her shoes someday, too. Maybe then I'd understand. But that's her, not the rest of you with your kids, your houses, and your regular jobs.
As it stands, however, I have my own struggles, and I was still able to fix my situation. The "Graphics Problem" is only going to get worse, for the entire game. Wise up and start your saving.
Quote:just stop. its not funny any more.
no
As for the other... I don't know what to say. You didn't give me much to work with. -
Quote:Thanks for that entirely OFF translation, River.Raid leadership is starting to rot and deteriorate, and we need to find some more people who enjoy bashing their heads against the wall, busting their *****, and trying to herd cats, all the while having to deal with backhanded snide offhand comments from the peanut gallery?
Either that, or Grey has Celiac's disease.
When I say "the wheat is rotting" I mean that the social experience of the Hamidon Raid is deteriorating, not the leadership of it. Hell, the game's social experience, period. The tone of recent months has been anything but lighthearted.
Kidengineer, you've got this game down to a science. You're a FANTASTIC gaming tactician, and who knows what other cool things you're doing in life. I would never think of disparaging you in this.
But our regular avenues of recruitment have hemorrhaged players. Either they're not checking their channels or they're not playing anymore for whatever reason. We don't pull players from those avenues because they're simply not there.
That doesn't mean we're DYING, though. There are still plenty of new players, and many of them are on our server looking for something to do. If they know something is about to happen, and are given the information (and possibly time) they need to prepare for it, then I would figure we stand a good chance of seeing a better turnout.

As for the other... I was told to start my ******** here, so here is where I will *****. -
Happy birthday, Pax. You've made it through another year.
-
Hm, good point. I'm not in RSF Regulars, so I can't exactly comment on them... But that doesn't change the fact that advertisement practice for the channels is "A few times the prior day and throughout the actual day of the event."
Some people are probably planning their weekend throughout the week. Come Friday, they've probably already got their entertainment needs set.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just got done talking with Blaze Rocker. He says that, so long as we have a set day/time, he'll get the word out on Protector TFs. Frankly, it looks to be a strong channel with a growing playerbase... There may be a training curve involved, because I wouldn't be surprised if many of them were new, but...
The wheat is starting to rot. I think it would be worth it to sift through the chaff to find a fresh crop.
Quote:trying being helpful instead of sarcastic
do u know how big a jerk your sounding like?
this is like the 3rd or 4thtime you've insulted raid leadership in this thread.
No, I don't believe I sound like a jerk. I'm stating a simple logic.
And no, I'm not insulting the raid leadership. "The wheat is starting to rot" is referring to the recruitment methods, not the leadership. I wasn't saying anything about the leadership of the raid, just one aspect of their endeavor. -
Quote:I've run into players who've had multiple 50s within a month of starting. That didn't mean they knew anything about the game, but they certainly were in the range of education for such a thing as a Hamidon Raid.
NPWN stood for "NEW PLAYERS' WELCOMING NIGHT", and as such catered to those who had just started the game.
So, yes, NPWN could help them, too. -
I'm in agreement that we don't have enough players from Protector's Blue Side showing up on Red Side (hence the suggestion of more Redside teaming, to help players get up in level, which should be suggestion enough).
Quote:I wasn't referring to the actual Hamidon Raid. I was referring to the social prelude to the Raids.Experience means a lot. I was at the last Hami raid not let by one of "the few select people". It was a mess, mostly because the person leading didn't realize that the Hami raid is a beast of preparation and planning.
And...
Quote:The time was changed becuase we couldn't get people to the Abyss in a timely manner. It's easier to wait an hour for people from 5-6 than it is from 9-10. I'm an east coaster, I know that I start turning into a pumpkin as the time gets later.
Quote:The MOTD of the STF Masters and the RSF regulars are changed to reflect Hami raid dates and times. So there are a lot of people "in the know" about the scheduled raids. I just don't think many people are asking.
Quote:Only people that have been banned do not have access to the boards. Even those people can read it.
