I have reduced the number of programs at Startup and removed the Wacom components. The tablet itself has been little more than a mousepad for almost a year, anyway.
Game's still not running, though. -
Quote:I want to point out the dichotomy of this statement...
No for me and for my character would behave the same as Goku and Vegeta did in DBZ. Goku let Frieza fight at full strength to show he was better. Likewise, Vegeta could of beaten Cell but wanted to fight his ultimate form (which got Vegeta beaten) to prove his might.
Succeed, and you look like a total bad-***.
Fail, and you look like a total dumb-***. -

I have been unable to play for the past week because of a card upgrade.
I was previously using a 9800 GT with old drivers because the modern drivers would have the same results I am about to describe.
I am able to start the game. I can log in. I can select my server.
However, that is as far as I get. The game locks up before my character can render and I'm left with a blank character select screen.
I've been to the NVidia site, and after the Tier 1 technician ran me through the standard rigamarole of rolling back my drivers, I have been escalated to the next tier of support and haven't heard another word.
I like the game too much to give up on it. If anybody could give me some advice on what to do here, I'd be very appreciative. -
I think the first "true merging" we'll see is when the spirit of Pendragon merges with the Honoree to finally cure him of being Riktified. And that's only IF the developers are deciding to go that way.Everthing else, as was explained by other posters, isn't exactly "merging." It's either hijacking or an assumption of a role. Desdemona is still Desdemona, she just has a mask now that psychically links her to the Carnival of Light and maybe gives her some of Praetorian DeVore's powers. War Witch stole Sorceress Serene's body (there's irony there, too; WAR Witch is the friendly, good-natured heroine, Sorceress SERENE is the evil, vindictive psychopath).
I'm still wondering what happened with Praetorian Infernal. I get the feeling there was a plot opportunity that was missed there. -
Quote:More a case of "Characterization Marches On..."
First and Second Mission: Ah, crap, it's the Penelope Yin Spotlight hour again. And SURPRISE clockwork attack. Clockwork King seemed very much more sane than he normally does, not sure if that's really intended or just inconsistent characterization.
Clockwork King started as an inhuman enemy, one we could just beat up and not feel bad about doing it. Then the Devs gave him a girlfriend and an exciteable personality.
Now all Hell has broken loose.
Anyway...
Issues about Blue Steel not undergoing "due process..."
When he assaulted the man who would become the Clockwork King, the criminal had already murdered several people, had murdered another and appeared to be in the process of mutilating the body WHILE THE BUILDING THEY WERE IN WAS ON FIRE AND COLLAPSING (in reality, CK was trying to revive the man he had accidentally killed, not understanding why he couldn't make the corpse work the same way his "toys" did, or he was trying to perform CPR in a manner that made it look like he was attacking the body).
This was obviously somebody dangerous, violent, deranged and had displayed that he controlled a vast army of ugly, mishapen minions who were an obvious threat to the average citizenry of Paragon.
Blue Steel still roaming the streets after beating the Clockwork King ALMOST to death is hardly that surprising. Considering the fact that CK was a cop killer (huh, CK, still...) at the time, they probably would have thrown Blue Steel a parade if he could confirm the kill.
(I know, I know... NO they wouldn't throw him a parade. They would send him to counseling and therapy, but otherwise, he'd be okay. It's hard to villainize his actions when his Defense Attorney just has to say "Okay. Give me the 'pro-cop killer' argument, then.") -
Neuronia's doing a good job of relating my wish-list for Khelds, but the same requests were made long before the improvements made on the AT already.
I played my Warshade again tonight. Used him for a Lambda Trial.
The experience just never "wows" me. Even when pegging a group of enemies with Sunless Mire and thinking "Okay, now I'm gonna hurt them..." Nope. Nope. Just "bonk" and now they're all looking at me... Not even half defeated after getting Mired and Detonated.
Now, Bill and Khasei, I see you guys giving a lot of spirited, experienced advice for players. It's good information coming from veterans of the AT.
You're also making the same sort of assumption my father makes, that just because I did it once, I should be an expert at it. Or that everybody who plays a Kheldian should be having the easy time of it that you are. Or if I'm offering my opinion of my experiences, that I had damn-well better be an expert at it, otherwise I don't know what I'm talking about.
Thank you for your opinions and your advice, but I'll kindly disregard your condescension. My experiences differ from yours. I have a negative opinion of it as a result. Get over it and calm down. Just because YOU dismiss the opinion doesn't mean the opinion is really irrelevant.
The question was "Why aren't you playing it?" Honest answers were given.
I've seen some decent Kheldians in my time. Even in the days of SOs. I still remember one player saying he liked how the Warshade could have two "mobile defense platforms" following him (it inspired me to level my Warshade more quickly). I've done that one, too, and it IS cool.
But the experience is still underwhelming in the end. My Tankers, Brutes and Scrappers can wade into the midst of an army and start punching and kicking in every direction and be fine. My Blasters can bombard the enemy and I can watch clumps of them drop. My Corrupters, Defenders and Controllers can debilitate and otherwise devastate the enemy groups in their own ways, sometimes pulling off such an effective debuff strike, the enemies just melt. On my SoAs, I feel like Rambo. About the only AT I like less than the Kheldians is the Dominator, and even that can suddenly stop the entire group of enemies if things get too hairy.
But I rarely, if ever, get those same "Wow!" moments from my Kheldians. More just "Okay, now take this! Hey, that looks like it should have hurt more than it did..." -
I still figure Cole's been laid low. There's no need to kill him. Let him suffer.
He's seen what his pride and shortsighted plotting have brought his world to. Praetoria was falling apart long before we got there. Maybe he'll learn his folly. Maybe we'll get to use him as a weapon against the Battalion.
Or maybe this is all moot and he's dead anyway. A would-be dark god for a dying, crumbling world, broken and struck down by the champions of a bright one after his last, desperate bid to drive them off... Just as poetic, just as epic, and all without the unnecessary ugliness of a trial, public assassination or tedious debates like these. -

Creole just pointed out how your argument is invalid, Khasei. Again, your Kheldian build is probably amazing, you've probably got plenty of negative energy resistance stacked into it, but an average player, taking a Khelidan of the box, is going to encounter the Quantum Energy attacks and not enjoy getting full thirds of their hitpoints getting zapped out of them, getting stunned and then pummeled to the floor by the rest of the goon squad.
The changes DID NOT make the Quantum enemies irrelevant. It made them manageable.
It still takes work, effort and a little luck to manage them for the average player, though. -
Quote:I have to do nothing of the sort. They're not the same person and have no connection to each other. Keep hammering on Godwin's Law, though. If enough people do it, people will stop caring whenever something bad is juxtaposed with the Nazis.
If you're prepared to argue that Tyrant was really a good guy then you might as well argue that Hitler was just misunderstood.
Cole's story is one of a man with good intentions and bad circumstances. Praetorian Earth is a long series of bad circumstances.
Now Cole is in a world with better mentalities (at least, one would think so). He has a chance to see where you can take a chance, can hope that people's better judgement will win over their selfish desires.
Or maybe he'll just run into somebody like you, who will selfishly butcher him when the world is at stake and we need all the help we can get.
He's not the black-and-white madman he was back when he was first conceived. He's not a paragon of morality either, by no means, but nor are any of the heroes in this game.
But they're getting better.
Even Scirocco overcame his villainy and has made a better, more honorable person of himself.
Give the man a chance to redeem himself, or at least let him be imprisoned and learn why what he did was wrong.
If you just kill him, he doesn't learn anything, and those who are still loyal to his cause wind up believing that he was right, that maybe Primal Earth IS a chaotic den of psychopaths and madmen that needs to be culled.
Executing him doesn't solve anything. His city is already destroyed. His society is already crumbled.
Let him live with his shame. Let him learn his guilt.
It's hard to imagine a worse punishment. -
Quote:Now I don't know what you're talking about. The claims made about Voids/Quantums have no basis in reality since they changed the physical properties of their attacks and the spawning A LONG TIME AGO.
The Quantum enemies still spawn. The Nictus enemies still spawn. The Shadow Cyst Crystals still spawn.
The Quantum enemies still do extra damage to Kheldians. They still stun them, too.
This is my experience. It's my recent experience with them, too. We're going to go around and around in circles if all you can do is say "They made changes!" I know they made changes. It didn't affect my opinion of their condition. -
I think Golden and Savior do a good job of pointing out why we had to do this.
-
Quote:Because they still are an issue. They may not be for you, but you're not exactly representative of everybody. If this is the case I see no reason to bring up things that were fixed YEARS ago as if they actually mattered today or were still an issue. That is what I was addressing.
Nor am I. However, many players have expressed concern for how the Kheldians play, and the things I mentioned in my post are things that continue to plague my Kheldians.
Your experience otherwise does not necessarily invalidate my concerns. -
Quote:That's the myth told after the people's minds were addled by Enriche.oh, ya its too bad they already tried that in that thing called the hamidon wars where every super was almost wiped out
The Destroyers, however, remember being there to help Marauder when "he alone, stood by Cole."
And goodness knows how many meta humans were killed by "friendly fire" (read: secret execution) before, during and after the war, all rolled into the combat in order to secure Emperor Cole's vision of a perfect world or to satisfy the egos of the people he brought into his circles of power.
The truth of the Hamidon Wars cannot be trusted because it's all a veil of history rather than the fact of it. Finally, it all boils down to one man's decision to die slowly and afraid in the gilded cage he built for himself and the people around him rather than stand and fight. -
Quote:What is the quote?I like how everyone forgets the BIG reason Tyrant had things like Enriche or the Seer Network in place. It wasn't just for kicks.
It was because it was his way of making sure Praetorian Hamidon didn't come bearing down on him like the fist of an angry god and completely wipe out the last remnants of Humanity. Yes, it's still ugly and nasty that Tyrant had thought-police and drug-filled water to pacify the citizens while his Praetors did their things, but what was the alternative?
Complete and utter extinction by a monster Tyrant himself, even as the Champion, was not utterly confident he could defeat.
In this sense, while the methods were deplorable, the intention was fine.
"I would rather die on my feet than keep living on my knees."
When we fight the Hamidon (as rarely as that is now, since Shards and Hamidon Enhancements are largely irrelevant nowadays), we take an army of meta humans against it. Cole went, by himself, to battle the thing.
Beating the Praetorian Hamidon into submission would have been taxing. It would have cost lives. Many lives.
But the world would have been free in the end.
Cole took the opportunity for the Final Stand and decided to instead try to placate the beast with docility. Praetoria sealed itself inside its sonic cage, the people happily oblivious to the threat they were truly under, distracted by the focus on the Resistance and the chaos of Primal Earth.
And the Hamidon grew and grew and grew... Eyeing that caged meal hungrily as it slowly grew under it, creeping ever closer to gulp it down... -
Quote:Actually, he was KEENLY aware.Seems weird that every single one of the Praetors he chose turned out to be insanely evil - or that he wasn't able to spot that at any meeting of the Praeors, or that he wasn't aware of what they were doing during all the years the loyalist dictatorship existed.
He just thought he could reign them in. Or that their proclivities would be minor and wouldn't make much of an impact.
Calvin Scott, deluded or not, was able to build an army out of the people who were wronged by the Praetors.
Now look what happened... -
It's also not a Star Wars Rip Off. It's a Hero's Arc, out of order.
-
What happens to Praetoria is sad. It's supposed to be. If you don't feel a sense of "Aw... Maybe we could have done something better..." then, well, I don't know what's wrong with you.
On the other hand, look at who was in charge of Praetoria. When you play Emperor Cole's mission at the end of the arc, you realize he was the ONLY person with a genuine desire to do what was right. He was the only one with good intentions.
They say the Road to Hell is paved with Good Intentions. I call bull on that. You need to inspect your building materials. The Road to Hell is probably planned with Good Intentions with a lack of Foresight, and there are more than enough Bad Intentions to make up the asphalt.
Emperor Cole built his Empire of Peace out of Nightmares and Paranoia. He took the most psychotic, deranged people and put them in power, all because they had the simple, easy answers to make the populace dim and docile. It would only have been a matter of time before it all ended in blood and fire, even without the Hamidon and Primal Earth's interference.
In all fairness, this was the most likely outcome. Be glad we were able to save who we could. -
Be honest, Venture, you say stuff like that about EVERY character in this game. It makes it hard to take this attitude seriously when you're the one giving voice to it.
-
Quote:Look, I don't know what kind of build you've got on your Kheldian, but I'm sure it makes it play AMAZING.Is this thread caught up in some kind of strange Dr. Who like time warp continuum or something?
Or maybe it's people that have not played like in YEARS like thread title says cause the complaints I am seeing are from like 2-5 YEARS ago and don't fit in with the changes made since then.
Seriously. If you've got this much defense for the archetype, then it MUST be fantastic for you.
Have fun with it.
But I haven't stopped playing since I started. I would play my Kheldians after the changes you described, and I did not find the differences all that uplifting of my opinion. But that's all it is. My opinion.
Your continuing supposition that I'm coming back "after years" is starting to annoy me. It's as if you're trying to hammer in an idea that I'm ignorant. I find that mildly insulting.
Kheldians are still one of the rarest ATs I see, and usually for the same reasons. Out of the box, Kheldians are sub-par to the rest of the archetypes. You have to work hard to get the build that not only performs well, but matches your play style.
My kheldians, I have them built the way I like to play them. I still need to get some IO Sets into them to fine-tune their performance to hit that sweet spot where I can go "Yes. This is perfect." I guarantee if you were to see my Warshade, for instance, you would think I had gone insane (here's a hint: lots of toggles, no Dwarf, and Flurry; he's got FLURRY!).
But this is why I said your mileage may vary. You're arguing a difference in play experience, which may as well be arguing the difference between two chocolate cakes. Not everybody likes chocolate cake, but they'll partake in it, still, because, come on, chocolate is awesome. But they might like particular chocolate cake, and not your chocolate cake (I bet you're salivating right now).
I haven't hit that sweet spot for my Kheldians. It's still an experience in which I have to be in a particular mood to play the character in order to play the archetype, and that happens very infrequently, and the experience never has me wanting more (though, granted, I've never rage-deleted my Kheldians nor said "Hm. Nah, I'll never play this again..." followed by a quick delete to reroll the character). -
Melee characters can carve through 98% of the rest of the game solo like a hot knife through warm butter. For the 2% of the normal game they can't, it's just a bump in the road.
Frankly, I'm not surprised the Incarnate content is designed to give them a challenge.
