  1. Hm. Drawing a little heavily from personal experiences, eh?

I hear a lot of great authors do that... I'm still on the fence about how I feel about such direct usage.

    Downtime?

    We welcome our European Overlords.

    Or something to that effect.

Me, I'm just laughing because it seems the game has actually finally "Gone to the Americans."

    Breh-heh.

    New player here

I also recommend joining a chat channel. A good one that's friendly to newcomers and is rather forgiving of most faux pas is Protector Vigilance. It's a good channel for getting to know your fellow players and forming teams for just about anything.

Protector Watch is a good channel for forming teams for just about anything. You should be able to find some really decent players here... Though its popularity has certainly waned in the past couple years. It's a very no-nonsense channel, so there's not much discussion that goes on in it.

Protector TFs is invite only. It's been rather popular as of late. If you make your presence known in Vigilance, chances are you'll receive an invite from this channel in short order. They're not affiliated, and the content in TFs can be a bit racier than you'll find in Vigilance. Also, TFs considers itself another no-nonsense channel, though the previous statement about raciness should indicate they're somewhat lax in that regard.

Finally, there's Jello Shooters. While open to the public, I would recommend you learn through reputation about it first. It's not inherently a channel in which mature discussions take place, but it's a place where ANY discussion can take place. Conversations there tend to be no-holds-barred, and can get very dramatic, extreme, disgusting, racy, or just plain funny (or a mix of any number of adjectives).

By joining some or all of these channels, you should have your finger on the pulse of what's happening in Protector.

    Downtime?

Yeah, for those of you who don't stick to one server...

    ...

Nevermind those characters on Virtue, Champion, Infinity and Freedom...

    STOP GLARING AT ME!
  5. Hm. I did better than I expected to.

Well... Thanks P.E.R.C. for something that was... Unique.

I'm sorry for being such a pill when it started.
  6. Happy birthday, Janlee.

    Give those Brits Hell!

And when you get home... Give those damn teachers even worse!

    Negative Stealth

    I wasn't referring to ambushes.

I was referring to the average NPC enemies, standing there and trying to look tough.
  9. Mr_Grey

    Negative Stealth

Well, enemies still see me. Something's alerting them to my presence, and it's not my proximity or my attacking them.
  10. Mr_Grey

    Negative Stealth

Can the Developers please look into how Negative Stealth works?

When they introduced it, they explained that it was to enable Stalkers and other stealth-heavy characters/players the ability to keep their stealth powers on but still escort the NPC objective. The drawback was that it would also allow the enemy NPCs to see the player character and attack him as they normally would.

It worked just fine for a while...

But now, it seems only the non stealth part functions. Now it seems even combat support NPCs can't see you anymore.

I would rather one or the other. If you're going to have the -Stealth power when escorting an NPC, I'd like to still be able to use my Hide/Stealth/Cloak/etc. But if the NPC won't even follow me while I'm stealthed (which this was supposed to enable), then I don't see why I need to be exposed to the enemy like that!
  11. You're complaining when you have 15 level 50s?

I have 35 (working on 36 and 37). I've looked at the availability of Incarnate Experience and said "To Hell with that."

A few of my characters are going to get effort put into them for any appreciable level of "Incarnate." The rest are getting the minor tweaks and they'll get what they can afterward.

    Death penalty

I rather liked number 8, Stacking Debuffs.

It would really curb the attempts at unnecessary risks if folks started having an actually harder time to play the character the more they were defeated. It's also a much more tangible penalty than experience debt, but far more manageable than the other options.

Rez sickness might also be a good one, but we've already sort of got that with the disorientation provided by Awakens and such (as Anti Proton explained earlier). Further complicating that concept (such as having a sickness attached to any kind of reviving, even an Empathy Defenders Revive; huh? What!?) would just be annoying.

In the end, though, I would be perfectly fine if the system we have stayed the way it is. It's simple, it's casual, it's, honestly, fun. It reminds you that you're playing a game and don't have to take any of this seriously. You could be trying to get through some raid right now, but then suffer a teamwipe. Maybe it's a catastrophic teamwipe (Leaguewipe). Oh well. You can always try again later... And it's not like it cost you anything more than time to do it. It's not like you're going to lose equipment or levels as a penalty...

No, you can pick yourself up, dust off, and try again. That's what rocks about this system.

  13. They call it a neutron bomb.

Emperor Cole had it built because he needed a weapon that would kill the living, but leave the infrastructure intact.

Huh. There's no infrastructure out there. There's infrastructure in here. In this city. To think, people helped that lunatic build this thing and didn't even consider that basic logic. Then again, there are reasons beyond chemically-induced amnesia for them to believe that it won't be used on them, allowing for Cole to rule over a blasted world, the only survivor of a ruined world.

Out there, it's just the Trees. It's just the maddened vegetation, chewing up the scenery. No more buildings. No more cities. No more people. Just the Devouring Earth. Honestly, you could solve the problem with napalm strikes and flamethrowers, let them run around and set all of their little buddies on fire. Your people will sit perfectly cozy behind this "sonic barrier."

But no... You had to build a neutron bomb. You had to make a weapon clearly intended for use against cities.

I don't think you want it used here.

I think you want to use it on my home. My world. Open a portal and chuck it through...

Frankly, when the Resistance had me capture this thing and I started piecing the puzzle together, I started liking what they told me they were going to do with it. It sounded poetic to me. A weapon of hideous power, turned on the very people who built it.

    Simply beautiful.

I probably shouldn't tell them how many of these things my world already has... Not to mention the copious amounts of fire for handling the Devouring Earth.

I don't know how that moron, Neuron, rebuilt me. Considering the clockwork parts that make up my new body, I wonder if he even realized he did. Maybe I rebuilt myself. It doesn't matter. I'm here now. I'm doing this.

They look at the Crusaders with fear. They tell me I should consider my morality when working with them. They try to tell me to consider the lives I'm ruining when I do these things. They think their words will stop me because they know their guns, lasers and fists can't.

I am the Dreadnaught. I fear nothing. I am unstoppable.

I am not human. I am not a Praetorian. I am a machine. I was made on Primal Earth. My loyalty lies there. This is not a question of morality.

This is an act of war.

You want to use this weapon on my people, Cole? You will see what it does to your own, first.

My name is Ryat. Don't worry about me being caught in the blast. I'm not alive. I'll be just fine.

No matter how it's sliced, that's pretty amazing.

So... Just because it must be done...

  16. Raids are fun?

Frankly, they're getting tedious and dull for me...
  17. See, it's because of developments like this that I've stopped incorporating the Developer NPCs in my writing. They keep doing things with them that have no consideration for fan fiction.

Still, I would recommend finishing the story. Think of it as being an alternate universe if you need to justify it somehow. Or go with interpretations that the Villains are using terms that are too extreme for what the Heroes are actually doing, and that where we see friendship and respect, they see "boring, stupid love..."

So far, this isn't anything like what happened between Manticore and Sister Psyche, which was a heavy application of foreshadowing in the comics. There's no such guarantee here.
  18. Please... Please call it a NON-birthday. The other is... Unsettling...
  19. I would submit to this, but the shortest stories I've written have been 1,000 words or more.

I am certainly not a fan of this 600 word limit.

    For the Record

    Wait-a-minute...

Marauder keeps getting the stuffing knocked out of him...

    *looks at the bonfire*

    D:

Oh my GOD! They're... They're all CLONES! We're being kept warm by the fire of hundreds upon thousands of Marauders!

    ...

Actually, I'm not too bothered by that. Throw another roided-out cyborg on the fire.

Yeah, that Freak Tank will do.
  21. Quote:
    Incarnate currency overload?
While I understand Posi's reasoning for the new Incarnate currency I strongly dislike it. This is one area that I think might inhibit vets from returning to the game. Just try explaining to someone how to create set IOs and the benefits they give, then the Alpha slot and shards, then the other Incarnate slots and threads. Bleah.
I've actually been thinking about this over the past week...

See... There are Alpha Abilities that can be made with either Shards OR Threads...

I get the feeling that at some point in the future, the same will be true for all of the new Recipes, too (possibly after the next set of Incarnate Slots are unlocked). I'm certain Shards will still be useful throughout the course of the Incarnate path.

  23. Finally got some successful BAFs under my belt. Feeling good, now.

And now... To work on my 50s and get them this stuff, too!
  24. Well, I've played the new SF. It's actually kind of nifty.

I still have yet to do the Hero TF.

I have had lots of success on Lambda (Whee!).

And I have yet to complete a successful BAF. *sigh*
  25. After three attempts, I've had one successful Lambda Raid (with Santa Laws; the one Red mentioned earlier).

My Main Scrapper is currently at 99% for Interface. Everything (and all of my other characters) are still lagging.
