lol the thought of cov being MORE repetitive than coh really makes me laugh. What the hell are you smoking?
-
Oblivion has just come out.
Personally, I've been playing that for the last week instead of cov -
Played as mr cuddles the other night and it was a lot of fun.
Might be bringing him out of retirement because I never did get to finish the AV arcs.
Anyone needs a tank and no one in AC is online, give me a tell @mr cuddles -
sorry I didnt turn up. Glad it went well
-
Web Grenade - excellent power in pve and pvp - especially useful in pve for those missions where you have to stop the av from escaping. useful in pvp if you can keep it stacked to stop people escaping.
Triage Beacon - excellent for henchmen that stay in one place - ie mercs/robots - less useful for zombies/ninjas
Force Field Generator - utterly brilliant power gives mez protection as a summon. if a member of the team gets held, bring the generator to him and he is unheld - only bad thing is sometimes he doesnt follow you as closely as you would like and if you forget to give him grant invisiblity he ruins your stealth
Poison trap - great unresistable temporary hold - sort of a slow in a way because it makes the bad guys vomit for a few seconds.... ah sod it it's great just because it makes them vomit.
Seeker drones - perfect for taking the alpha strike from a big mob - also reduces accuracy which is one of the best things you can do to an enemy really. Will stack with the drones from your pro bots to floor the enemies accuracy. the fact that your bots have seeker drones too makes it more useful to have a power that you can stack with it so i completely disagree with the poster above but I'm sure he's a nice person really he's just WRONG :P
Detonator - very situational - bit of a novelty power but I like it anyway because its just FUN but if I was a true power gamer I would not take it because it reduces your effective dps by 0.45 per cent etc etc god how boring is that.... its FUN -
assault rifle is fine, the number crunchers will tell you otherwise but basically, if you have fun then go with it.
Flamethrower and full auto will do a LOT of damage to a LOT of baddies -
basically, got a mate staying over on friday night and as long as he buggers off home by 2pm ill be doing it but dont worry too much about holding a space for me, I would like to do the SF but if someone else is a definite then dont let me get in the way with my awkwardness.
-
interested but not definite because it depends on some extraneous factors
lvl 36 mastermind merc/traps or lvl 38 ice/cold corruptor available, you choose. -
Sorry dude, I know I said it was my final word on the matter but I was only joking!
I know that robots do some niiice aoe damage so it's definitely a more offensive type of mm.
honestly it was just a joke but I forgot the smiley.
Although having said that, I do kick people from my teams if I don't think they are pulling their weight :P
sacrificing a henchman is a great tactic and if you refuse to do it 100% then you are missing out on a GREAT way of taking the alpha.
I love you like a brother. Touch me. Not there. I don't. I d d d don't like that. -
My two pence worth is that INV is the easiest to play with - RPD, temp inv, unyeilding and you are ready to go. Not as hardcore as a stone tanker but get yourself some combat jumping and hurdle and you've got a decent fun build
Go for war mace for extra kudos -
My final word on the subject.
You dont have to tank as a MM but sometimes it's a VERY useful tactic and can save the team's bacon.
And it's always wrong to force people to do play to a style they dont want to. It's far easier to kick them from the team and find someone better. -
peacebringers make noises like WOOOOSH! and ZZZAP! and make pretty glowy lights come out of their faces and hands!
-
soloing for me mostly involves pulling using slug into a poison trap, acid mortar and seeker drones with caltrops between my men and the baddies.
On a team, the only time I bother laying an ambush is against elite bosses or heroes, other times it's either send all the boys in using aggressive goto - BAM alpha strike absorbed across all 6 henchmen OR tank with acid mortar (granted its easier to do with stealth and fly) OR send Decoy Dave in to die, but before he dies, the other pets are sent in to take up the slack.
Then once I am confident the aggro is split across my men, I will switch to concentrating fire on single targets.
Also, If I think LRM is recharged, I get big Dave to lead with that
Sometimes, against a large or tough group of enemies, letting one henchman die is the only way to deal with the alpha, unless maybe you pull one by one which is in my opinion even more boring than lawn bowls. -
Is that more of a role playing decision? I get the impression that Toybox sounds like the sort of person who would want to take care of his toys
-
I have stealth for when laying the mortar but even when I didnt have it, you can lay it so it is just in range of the enemy, then leg it.
If you take fly with traps, you can lay everything except trip mine without the animation.
Using fly to zip around the battlefield laying traps out of your feet like little [censored] of death is great fun. -
It's not tanking as such, it's letting a low tier pet that does hardly any damage soak up the alpha strike that could kill a brute.
As I said, acid mortar is the best alpha taker imho, followed by decoy dave, my low tier soldier who does about 20 damage per attack. OH NOES ONE THIRD OF MY DAMAGE.
No one's forcing you to play that way, although it does seem to me that caring too much about your pets can make you a less effective mastermind, especially if you'd rather a team mate dies instead of one of your henchmen. -
well as traps, why not use your acid mortar to take the alpha? Unless you are anal about your acid mortar dying too :P
Honestly, sometimes you just have to tank with acid mortar or a low tier henchman. See my example of a +4 respec trial above. There's no way a -4 brute would have survived that alpha.
Do you run away as soon as one of your pets dies? Would you not rather see a little robot die than a team mate?
I think the original comment in the thread is more about when people expect you to do it all the time. That's like being told to "heal" when playing empathy or thermal I guess. -
losing one low tier henchman is losing 1/3rd of your damage? I think you are exaggerating.
I had to use acid mortar and sacrificing one of my low tier soldiers on a +4 respec trial or the team would not have finished the trial, simple as. It's a perfectly valid tactic and one of the more honorable pursuits for a mastermind I feel.
I'd rather a replaceable chunk of AI dies than my teammates, guess I'm selfless like that.
If there's a brute then he can take the alpha if he wants it. -
I pretty much always send pets (or a sacrificial pet) in first, if not laying acid mortar to take the alpha.
In fact, acid mortar is the perfect alpha taker, or if it's not ready then Decoy Dave gets it in the face.
Never heard it because I do it anyway is my verdict! In fact, often I have asked the team to let my pets go in first so my team stay alive longer. -
nah, he randomly spams it when he's set to defensive and aggressive.
The only way to be sure he only uses it on you would be to make sure all the other mercs were out of his range at all times, otherwise he's reaching for the old stimulant.
My advice is don't upgrade him with the 32 power, he only gets stim and a low damage, high aggro grenade.
Personally, I am traps so force field generator is my mez protection. My medic doesnt even get the first upgrade, is set to passive follow until I switch him to defensive follow when he begins healing. He also has perma grant invis on him too -

merc traps here and have been staminaless for all of my 36 levels.
I have to rest occasionally, and I'm constantly having to turn off leadership in long fights but I have many more traps at my disposal than if I went with stamina.
If the patron pools don't impress I might get stamina from 40-50 (or respec into it) -
wow dude u r pritty kewl

completely unrelated to defender tips as such but I had a similiar conversation which ran thus:
- Dreck?
Bless you
