The buildings would be the traditional flat scaled store fronts, that included things like: a hotel, bar, county jail. The doors would be swinging panels like in the movies, and every once in a while you'd see some tumbleweed drifting through the landscape.
You've pretty much described Burnside in the F2P Superhero MMO. Never going to happen, Paragon studios would never be comfortable trying to imitate, they need to come up with something original that takes the CoH enviroments global but have not been seen in the competition.
Personally I would advocate moving forward with a spacestation Gagarin>moonbase Armstrong and Rikti Homeworld design effort before the competition beats CoH to similar space-themed enviroments as well.

I won't say, it goes in line with my rants of blowing away our competition.

Sadly our competition will have to arrive and bury our beloved game, because our devs are idk what doing. When they should be on a NO MERCY twitch stomping on the other mmorpg's, my only guess is theres no money to be made if they took em out. Well I have to ask, am I being mean, or should we stomp on the competition?.

Anyways not to take from a good thread yes to all newer places of battles or zones whichever sigh, yes to revamp, remodel, re'up, reshuffle, redo, remulligen, repair, rescale, regenerate, re hey i thought thats what the expansion was supposed to do. Sigh!
Yes, this is without doubt Paragon Studio's fault. For years we have been asking for an underwater zone, for a desert zone, for an ice-themed zone - and we could of had all these things first had the studio deemed it worthy. Instead the competition took your many requests and that zonal poll of a couple of years ago and implemented them first.
While we had dev-time allocated to endless PvP tinkering and Mission Architect bug fixing, 2006-2009 was endless tinkering on those things and although GR was also developed, in the end its more city zones. It makes me feel pretty frustrated when Paragon studios then tell interviewers how much they listen to the community and value our input.

I really don't know what else we can do as subscribers other than post in 'suggestions' and hope, but past experience has shown that despite years of calls for City of Heroes to bust out of the city limits, It is just not deemed a priority.
Now if we ever do go global and attempt desert, Ice or Underwater zones, despite all those suggestion posts over many years... we will not be the pioneers.

Years of calls in the suggestions forum for cultural quarters to city zones. In the end the competition has given us them first.

You've pretty much described the basis of what is jokingly referred to as Melkathi's Tron™pack (over on the other games forums) and it has had interested dev comments on the subject.

Still, keep on with those suggestions everybody. Paragon Studios does listen to the community and even though it may not do anything about years of a much requested topic, look on the bright-side... The other studio's devs read them here on this forum and Its giving their enviromental artists some really diverse and exciting ideas for zones. Keep it up.

    A little break

Urrgh, this is exactly what happened to me a little over a year ago so I can sympathise. Best of luck Mr?.

Before anyone says "hold on a minute, I said movie re-makes" - well, the Mass Effects are so cinematic, tbh it feels like you've seen a film when you've completed them.

I also would put this down to just vapourware like the buying up of the CoH IP for a film, but this time the Bioware founders and executive producers of the game are on-board for the film, so it looks like its going to happen.

...Oh, and Seth Green has got to play Jeff 'Joker' Moreau.

Well I can't say what Marketing believes right now, although my guess is the sound effects to it are probably a couple of cents rattling around inside a china piggy-bank.
I got an admission out of NCsoft staff and have quoted them as saying that; "merchandise for CoH should have been implemented 2 years ago" - and that was way back at the beginning of September 2007 after the Birmingham Comic-Con.

In short I'll be very surprised / borderline outright shocked If we ever got anything out of NCsoft for City of Heroes. I'm not convinced they think there is enough demand to expand on the limited selection in the shop, and re: merchandise, well that is a goldmine... but its a bone I've given up on chasing for a long time.
Marketing believes direct advertising via the web and keeping close-ties with MMO sites pays better dividends on a cost-basis for the franchise.
  8. Nice!, I thought you'd gone the ZBrush digital sculpting route on seeing the finished product... but thats some old skool sculpting right there, with clay, and, you know... by fingers! - Impressive!.
Is there a jointed armatage skeleton in there?, and have you ever used super-sculptey™?.

Brilliant work! - love the character!.

LMAO! - Up you get Sweetheart™

Nice story Damz!, I agree - everythings beautiful, but it is extremely frustrating with our under-developed, ageing and under-financed infrastructure.
I suppose it could of been worse, you could of been standing in a queue for 5 hours outside St.Pancras in the freezing cold before spending the night/s on an airport terminal floor.

The government should get in consultants from Canada to review our winter preperation. No committees about committees about committies - just straight up implement their recommendations, losing £1.2,000,000,000 a day is no laughing matter.
  10. Nice going Marketing! - I'll be on the lookout for these!. Awesome!.
  11. That looks incredible!, I don't have an iphone but I'll be recommending it to family who have one. Do you think it would be able to handle Kanji?.

This is right up there as a christmas present along with The Manslator™.
  12. The true report was even more pitiful in my honest opinion, (and thats coming from a Brit).

.... Uh oh!, I've swung it towards political discussion. IBL.
  13. If you are referring to rights reverting, yes.... I imagine you are correct.
  14. Well i guess if you have any ideas then you should make them known to Nolan pretty soonish, because the Nolan/Goyer screenplay, directed by Snyder (and supervised by Nolan) starts production next summer 2011 (possibly in Vancouver) and Warner Bros is aiming for a December 2012 release-date.

Yeah, I have to admit my enthusiasm has been dampened after reading a couple of reviews on Tron Legacy. Apparently it falls down in the same way Superman returns did... Allegedly its interspersed with a tedious father & son story plot that doesn't exactly compliment the rest of an action film.
  16. Re: the building models, we have a great thread full of amazing ideas in David N's 'All things Art : Building edition' thread.
Unfortunately in said thread (and its accompanying ones on different subjects), when the question is asked about when we could potentially see some of them implemented in-game - (and i take it that its a when not if they are being implemented considering the threads were made in the first place)- we appear to be met by a wall of silence.

I would dearly love it and appreciate it if anyone can find a dev quote that even hints at some kind of implementation timetable. Could be just sourcing ideas for a speculative CoH2 for all we know.

True, but then when you get thrown the "Its just as hard revamping a zone, than it is building a new one", I don't think weather will ever be implemented.

Despite all the threads, and in those threads where even compromises like seasonal patches that hint at weather are suggested - it took years to get an official answer.

If a fully fledged live weather system is not possible then thats fine, but this is far from the 'all or nothing' scenario line coming out from Paragon Studios in my opinion. The basic zones could have more visual ambiance with weather-lite™.

I would definately like to see a bare minimum of seasonal patches hinting at weather. Skies in Paragon could be a lot better with proper clouds, and varied every so often. Have you seen the skies in that MMO in a galaxy far far away? - they look pretty special, Conan's MMO isn't too shabby sky-wise either.

The fog in Dark Astoria needs to be proper volumetric fog you can wade through, disappear in and see drift in clouds, not a grey wall of gloom that is forever 20 ft ahead just out of reach and that was passable for MMO gfx 5 years ago.

Tbh pretty fed up with these threads, not through any fault of the poster, just that years of pleas can be so resoundly dismissed as if its not craved by a good portion of the community.
  18. That !, ladies and gentlemen, Is why the British Broadcasting Corporation still rules the waves !.

    /em,salute

...and to think we grow up with programming of this quality. Its part of the reason we are all so well-balanced here in Britain.
    *sarcastic grin*.
  19. Thats unfortunate, I guess thats pretty much the deathnell to the franchise now that the troubled MMO relaunch fizzled out as well.

I guess SyFy has got the new series of 'V' in their favour (which seems to be forever delayed), but I've got to agree... Its been a long long time since I've looked at Syfy's UK programming and thought "Wow, oh hell yeah, can't wait !".

I guess its not hard to imagine why.
To use an analogy for amending an existing zone, If the zone is a sponge birthday cake then you have to blow out the candles, take the candles out, scrape off the icing, then try seperating each layer without tearing of the next - before adding what you want as filler - then putting the layers back together, reapplying icing, adding the candles etc...

I can't pretend to know all the work involved but I imagine there are lots of interwoven things like NPC wayfinding around the current map which would also need to be amended. In short its a lot of work.
But then again theres the point of view that these starter zones are showcasing the game to new players logging on for the first time. I've found myself in zone chat defending the game and informing trial subs who were broadcasting "OMG, the graphics are worse than Second Life - LOL !!! ".
So Paragon City starter zones may look better than they have ever done, but lets be honest here, they are no Praetoria - they do need a redux, especially to get rid of all that Warehouse district which is 'all filler - no killer'.

No decorations in the city, no change to the NPC flavour text, no NPC's bundled up against the cold and carrying gaily wrapped packages. Not even any frozen lakes which we KNOW exist as resources as they did it for the very first winter event. Absolutely NOTHING outside of the ski lodge to give the game that holiday feel. In fact, I'd go so far as to say the video is a little misleading as it seems to show more Christmassy stuff than you actually get.

Sorry Paragon Studios, but you missed again.
I agree FFM, that along with Zortels posting of Fanservice's 'winter enviroment patch' simulation makes me completely in agreement with you.
After a year away I'm underwhelmed by the listing of the winter *rehash* event content. I'll still be logging in, but believe me Devs its most certainly for the legendary CoH Christmas community feel - not 2010 event content.

    /Underwhelmed.
  22. Don't beat yourself up over it Samuraiko, the obstacle is without a doubt financial. Your talent for the great trailers is well known among the community, and I'm sure If Paragon Studios could reap the rewards of your work without all the awful business of actually paying you produce them - they would.
Most studios will try to keep things internal if they can, especially now with today's tight job market.

That said I quite enjoyed the light humourous approach of that trailer, could of done with more Heroes & villains (numbers-wise) together to stress the holiday community event.
