I hadn't actually started crying about the closure until I read your post, Zwill. Thank you so much for all of your hard work, your enthusiasm, and your willing to work with all of us. I've never actively watched streaming videos until your Twitch.TV live feeds, and even though I strenuously avoided Twitter I created an account for CoH and now enjoy it immensely.
Here's hoping we hear from all of you in new regions of video game land soon if this future cannot be changed. -
I can't imagine playing another MMO. WoW (though I do have some good Vanilla/Burning Crusade memories), SWTOR, and Star Trek never resonated the way City of Heroes did, and the communities drove me away at any rate. The wonderful community and development of CoH spoiled me.
I'll probably just end up playing Torchlight 2, Starbound, and a few other games as they come out, but I can't think of any other MMO's that would be anywhere as much fun and have such a great playerbase. I'm always open to suggestions anyone recommends, though. -
Signed! Here's hoping other opportunities to save the game present themselves as well.

I know my voice here is just a drop in the bucket, but I too want to say how amazing this game has been and how much I (and all of us) will miss the hard work and dedication you have all put into the game. I'm looking forward to reading twitters and other updates about all of your exploits so we can support your work in the future. Thank you so much!
I'm also really looking forward to the Ask Us Anything next week, I hope it works out! If not, hopefully it can be hosted elsewhere! -
I just heard about this from my friend and headed straight to the boards to learn what was going on. This is so incredibly sad to hear
The game still has so much to offer - the devs were hard at work on i24 and nature's affinity was so much fun.
Infinity is my home, but I don't think I've made a presence on this server big enough so that people really know me. In spite of that, I want to say how much I enjoyed playing with everyone in various iTrials and TF/SFs. The community really made this game for me, I've never seen another MMO like it. Thank you everyone for making this shy person's CoX experience wonderful and being so helpful! I'd be honored to participate in any player events that take place.
My most-played characters: Morrigana, Phantom Minutes, Meteorita, Poetry N Motion, Tyra Miss Sue, Abby Tankinstuff, Betty Bulwark -
Most of the ones that I can think of were already mentioned, however I don't think I saw this one from Dr. Strangelove:
"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here!...." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAeqVGP-GPM
or this one from Some Like it Hot:
"I'm a man!...." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZymBti7700 -
These kind of films remind me of reunion tours put on by bands 10+ years after they have broken up. I have always been a huge fan of the first B&T movie since it's so absurd, goofy, and good-natured. Wasn't as big of a fan of the sequel, though it had moments that were a lot of fun. While I don't expect much from this third movie, I'm curious to see how they'll portray B&T in their late 40s.

I love my scrapper! I don't think the game gets better than this, running into a group of enemies with Shield Charge! Watching them get bowled over with a huge smash, then crunching them with a Crowd Control! Wearing a cute chainmail outfit that is fashionable yet functional! Earning new shield and mace customizations! And, and....
Oh that's not what this thread is about... -
I believe my family's first computer was the IBM 5150. I seem to remember them getting it several years after 1981 but considering I was a single digit number throughout the 80s I'm not entirely certain.
I was recently talking to my mom about programming, and she told the story about how she used to take computer classes back in the day of college when punch cards were the norm. Someone ran into the room and yelled, "We hooked up a TV monitor to the mainframe!" She couldn't figure out why anyone would want to do something like that that and didn't even bother to go look at what the fuss was about. At least she has a good sense of humor about it now -

Quote:Yeah, I applied it in the Promo Code area then realized it probably wasn't the right place to apply it. Just wanted to let people know the mistake I made so they could avoid doing it, too!Maybe people that retweet should prepend if they are on a EU or NA account?
Did you try to apply the code onto the market, or to your account?- Click on "Account" at the top of the Market Window.
- Enter NCsoft Master Account Password.
- Click on "Redeem code", then enter the code.
- Log out to the login screen, and re-enter the game.

Just got mine! For anyone that is still looking for theirs, I found it on the top toolbar, on the icon of the human person that doubles as a drop down menu, just to the right of the search option. When I clicked on it the direct messages said (1). Yay!
Also, I entered the code into the Paragon store and was told it was invalid. I then logged into my NCSoft account from a web browser and applied the serial code there and it worked just fine. Hope this helps others! -
Just wanted to thank everyone for all of your Twitter help. No message yet, but I feel like I know what I'm doing better thanks to all of you and that's worth it
In the meantime I've been reading Neil Patrick Harris' entertaining Friday the 13th twits so it's all good!

Quote:Oh neat, that's good info to know where to look for a notificationHi Guys, complete twitter newbie here that only got up and running today with the kind and generous help of Thirty-Seven
So actually got the start message and the one 10 mins later saying the codes were coming soon. After nearly an hour with no sign of a DM (remembering I am clueless about Twitter) I was idly clicking on the various icons and opened up my profile page. There in the lists and bolded was a new DM notification. It was my code.
If you have not yet checked that location do so now as it might be waiting for you as well. Fingers crossed.
Now to go input it into my account.
CheersI'll keep an eye out for it there, thanks!
EDIT: @Texas Justice - I retweeted around 12:03 (central) so I believe I made the timeframe, then again I might have really screwed up the time difference lol. I think the 10 min time frame is fair, too, not only for the reasons you mentioned but because it does help build up hype. -
I retweeted right away, and am following @cityofheroes as well, and nothing so far. I'm not sure if the codes are still going out or if I did something wrong. I just hit Retweet on the message itself. I'm new to Twitter, were we supposed to put an @cityofheroes in there? I'm confused

As much as invasion events scare my new alts, this sounds like a lot of fun!
What badge would we get for the event? The Bigger Boat? Shark Weak? Sharkspeare in Love? Land Shark?
-
I also want to thank Hit Streak and Zwill for listening to feedback and be willing to compromise with fans while sticking to their vision. While the solution does not fix every concern people have for this, it really shows that you're willing to work with the community to please the most people possible while doing what you set out to do. I agree with Yoru that this really is a big step forward, and will hopefully be something that is anticipated in advance next time.
For the record, I don't use social media that much, but I just started my Twitter account a few days ago. While I don't really have much to say on my end, it's making for a nice, personal sort of RSS headlines feed. -
Thank you for your response, I was assuming that they would only be broadcasted somewhere such as Twitter or on Virtue and everyone had to rush to their account management and hope to get the code in. It's really hard to complain about free stuff, but if they are used for other promotional activities in addition to twitter, that seems more fair. I think most of us just really like auras and don't want to miss out on the awesomeness.

I don't know what's worse, the wait that was for the Retro Sci-Fi set or the wait for i24. I'm with Veruca Salt: want ALL the things!!
(that's such a cute little mad face btw)

I can understand the desire for bringing more attention to Twitter feeds, but I would be more in favor of this if everyone who followed, or even just visited @CoH without a Twitter account, would be able to access the code. At the moment it's just disappointing the thousands of fans who have a slow connection or aren't able to check twitter and manage their account at the posting times, not to mention those who really do not want social media in their lives at all. Personally, I tried very hard to get the codes and the one time one went through I was told the code was valid but wouldn't be applied to my account

Oh, fun thread! Here is my input, and of course, all of these are IMO. Hope this isn't too long...
Likes:
- The costume creator, there is just way too much fun to be had with it such as designing costumes along a particular character concept and costume contests
- Creating a character and playing around with the power sets, learning the synergy between the two and how they work together, like my illusion/time controller
- Superjump - Best Travel Power Ever!
- Ignoring an AT for a long time and finally making one and learning how much fun they are; my Ill/Time and Dark/Storm controllers and WM/SD scrapper come to mind specifically
- Playing a brand new story arc that really makes you laugh (such as Flambeaux's enhancement scrunchie)
- The lack of the fierce, teeth-grinding competition found in other games, such as the "big" MMO which I played for years before CoX. The drama associated with everyone competing for resources, drops, and more is pretty much the most unpleasant gaming experience I ever had. I love the fact that recipes drop for everyone randomly, missions are usually instanced, and teams encountered are generally laid back and a lot of fun
- Inherent fitness
- Architect Entertainment - I love playing arcs (like the Silent Hill inspired one) and even farming once in awhile
- Supergroup Bases - They're kind of clumsy to build but I really like having a place to go when trying to figure out what to do or talk to friends
- iTrials and other Task and Strike Forces - There are a lot of people with great senses of humor in the game, that's what makes these things fun and not get old for me
- Badges - I love finding the perfect badge that goes with my character's theme, or earning an accolade I'd been working hard to get
- There really aren't too many, and more like mild annoyances than anything, but one would be some of the critter AI and having to chase down run aways, or finding that one hidden mob in a defeat all map that's stuck in a wall
- My inability to level up masterminds, I guess that's just the AT that isn't for me.
- Maps, such as those in First Ward, where you get non-stop mobs attacking you with no chance to recover. This kind of really stinks on characters with low dps when you are soloing.
- Putting an enhancement on the market for 100,000,000 inf instead of 10,000,000 inf when you're exhausted and not paying attention to the warnings (yes, that is definitely not the game's fault)
- I'd like to have seen a little more flexibility for F2Pers, I think several friends might have become long term players if they had just a little more access to some of the game's paid features at the start

For the second event I was absolutely thrilled to be a finalist for the first time after entering each costume contest since just before the Party Pack came out, and was stunned to actually have placed. One of my in-game goals was to be a finalist in a costume contest just to see the super secret Pocket D room. For the record, Socially Awesome was going to be "Woman Eating Salad Alone While Laughing" until about an hour before the contest, when my boyfriend told me "I think you can think of something better..." The live streaming really worked well, it did a great job of allowing contestants to see other contestants in the other Pocket D's, and was actually really funny.
All of the finalists costumes were just great, but my personal, sentimental favorites were What Is a Man? (Huge SOTN fan) and Sad Keanu (loved the sad Keanu meme and the finalist really played the part well). Didn't get the chance to tell them how much I liked their costumes during the contest, unfortunately, so hopefully they can see it here.
Edit: I hadn't seen too many Courage Wolf memes before Doctor, so I wasn't too familiar with it, but I looked at some examples and your use of the alpha aura was brilliant (pun possibly intended). Great job! -
Well I don't really have any advice to give as this is sort of out of my range of CoH knowledge. I do have the comment however that your avatar is great! I'm pretty sure however that the cimore..cimorare...the Roman guys would make quick work of my defenses I were to try this.

Quote:Thanks for the suggestionWell, you get Accuracy in Vigor as well - not quite as much as you can with Nerve if you take the Core path, but it's an option and I find the other aspects (Heal and EndRedux) more useful for my Brute than the HoldDuration and Defense from Nerve. Just something to think about.
I'll look into it. When I made her alpha slot Vigor wasn't available, so nerve seemed like the best fit at the time. I liked the idea of having a 20% increase to defense to try to cap S/L. Since it seems that the 20% doesn't take into account set bonsues though, and that's where i get the majority of my def from, you're right, the def bonus of nerve isn't super useful.
